haven't written much lately bc I got too into oth and it's day 4 of watching and i'm like halfway through s2 lmao so I don't have much more of the married buddie fic (which is currently my priority) I can share without sharing everything haha - so, fuck it, here's a non-buddie snippet 🙈 i'm writing this just for me so like, who cares but also figured i'd share bc fuck it haha it's a ryan/taylor fic from the oc - they had an open ending where they weren't explicitly together, so in this fic they both go to college and keep in touch but aren't officially dating until she visits for christmukkah and they talk 🤣 it's very slowly coming together bc I deleted what I had and started from scratch lol

It’s hard to coordinate phone calls with a nine hour time difference, especially since Taylor is… well, Taylor is Taylor. She takes up any extracurricular activity she can, gets involved in the social life of her university, and always has her schedule fully packed up. Sometimes when she tells Ryan about her day, he needs to ask if she's taking breaks and has time to breathe. But that’s Taylor. He can’t help but smile as he thinks about her restless need to do it all. He wishes he could be there to make sure she rests, too.

He wishes he knew where they stand, as well. They’re kinda in this weird limbo right now. They talk at least a few times a week, they spent the last hour before she left making out on the train, but he’s still not sure if they’re dating, if they’re exclusive… He doesn’t think so, and it’s annoying to have to wonder. Taylor is usually so blunt and honest, and she’s always been the one needing reassurances on where they stand. But she’s not saying anything, and it’s slowly driving Ryan crazy.

He picks up the phone and throws his book to the side.

“Hey.” he whispers, falling back against his pillow.

“Hi, Ryan!” he hears her bubbly voice that instantly makes him feel all warm inside. When he closes his eyes, he can see her adorable smile and those piercing hazel eyes that always seem to look straight into his soul.

“Hey.” he repeats, a smile forcing itself onto his face.

WIP Wednesday

first of all HUGE shout out to @spurious for doing this every week and always tagging me 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 i loved seeing everyone's posts and making my own wip wednesday posts, it was so much fun and so motivating!! thank you!!!!

it's the last wednesday of the year (what the fuck) so this week it's a

✨WIP Year in Review✨

Number of WIPs Begun this Year: oh my god too many 😂 not including ones that i finished/posted, 43, including ones i've finished/posted, 96. which is, quite frankly, ridiculous considering i haven't written anything in like. 8 years

Number of WIPs Finished this Year: 53????? somehow???? that's absolute insanity to me omg

Longest-Running WIP: not surprising, my millers crossing au is currently my long-running fic 😅 and probably will be for a while

Newest WIP: my newest wip is (working title) 'Lesbian McShep ft Sam" and the concept is genderbent mcshep with john and sam being air force buddies, and sam warns john to avoid rodney bc she's a bitch- cut to a year later when they catch up back on earth and johns like yeaaaaah so i might've. accidentally fallen for the bitchy lead scientist?

Most Worked on WIP: probably my millers crossing au lmao, it's one of those fics that i'm probably going to be writing forever because there's just. so much to explore in that fic with the characters and i'm loving it so much and i can't wait to share it but it's also going to be so sad when i finish it i can tell already

Favourite WIP: oh man this is a hard one! i've done a lot of writing that i really love this year so it's hard to pick a favourite but i think if i had to narrow it down i would probably have to say either Safe House (my unhinged insane cia mcshep au where they kill abusers for fun) or Childhood Memories (rodney surprises the team with a ton of classic childhood earth activities bc 'everyone enjoys the wonder and magic of being a kid')

Favorite Completed Work: again very tough choice bc i like a lot of what i've posted this year but i think its a toss up between Bludgeoned, a very angsty rodney whump fic with the team going insane, or Not Dating, but More Than Friends, a very sweet qpr mcshep fic that i honestly think very accurately describes what their relationship to each other in canon is

WIP You're Most Excited to Finish: safe house omg i'm so close to finishing and i can't WAIT to share it idk if it'll be very well received but i'm SO excited to share it (for the very niche specific audience of one i wrote it for 😂)

WIP You're Not Sure You'll Finish: i started working on a concept at the start of the year that was radek visiting rodney every time he's in the infirmary and idk if i'll ever get around to finishing it but maybe i'll post a snippet of what i've worked on so far if people are interested

WIP Resolution for 2024: i want to finish more plot fics!! i'm pretty good at writing short little one shots but i'm shit at writing plot or longer fics and i have a lot of ideas for long fics so i wanna get better at it!

asdjkl tysm i'm so happy you've enjoyed it all!! ngl i've had a super fuckin busy week so this is gonna be very angsty :/ honestly i'm just ready to crawl into bed and sleep for a day lol.

(fill for 🥧 on the fall snz prompts list... written for e/ddie m/unson. s/teddie, 0.8K words.)

It's at the obligatory We-Survived-Again party, hosted by the Wheelers and disguised from their oblivious parents as a massive D&D session, that Eddie starts to realize that maybe he hasn't come out of everything as unscathed as he thought.

Don't get him wrong, the demobat bites hurt like a motherfucker even a week later and he's sure Ozzy's somewhere laughing at the irony of it all, but it's a bit more than just the physical injuries from Jason and his buddies and the Upside Down. His head is pounding, and his limbs feel oddly shaky. Eddie's not sure if it's nerves, or something else, but he'll deal with it later. They're trying to celebrate, here, and he has no intentions of raining on the whole thing.

Unsurprisingly, the kids are all play-fighting with each other in the middle of the Wheeler's basement while Eleven and Max—Eddie's still not quite sure what the former's deal is, but her buzzcut is badass—encourage them from the sidelines, making sure not to jar the latter's broken arm while the rest of them chat idly. Nancy and Jonathan are talking quietly, while Steve is staring wide-eyed at Argyle while the other teen starts rolling a joint and Robin grins at Steve's side. Eddie probably should join a conversation, it's not like he even knows half of these people, but he's feeling run-down and this probably isn't going to end for another hour and he's pretty much obligated to be there. He's part of this now, so it would be rude to—

"Eddie, right?"

He looks up to see Jonathan making hesitant eye contact, looking just as exhausted as Eddie feels. "Jonathan Byers. I'm Will's older brother; he's the kid with the bowl cut currently fighting with Mike."

Eddie glances over to see that Mike is, indeed, wrestling with who he assumes is Will, then back to Jonathan. Nancy's joined Steve and Robin, so at least she's not alone, but Eddie's even less familiar with Jonathan than almost anyone else here. "Yeah, I'm Eddie."

Jonathan gives him a tired smile. "Welcome to the club."

That startles a laugh out of him, and Eddie shakes his head, still in disbelief over the fact that they actually managed to survive this entire ordeal. "Thanks, man. How long have you... you know."

"Since the very beginning," Jonathan says quietly, looking over to Will. "It started with the kids, and then Nancy, and I. Steve found out, and then Robin, and now, you."

"Jesus," Eddie murmurs, then turns away to sneeze into his elbow. "hg'SHT! ih'shXt! h'SHtt! Oh, fuck, sorry."

"Bless you," he says. "You alright?"

"Yeah, no, I'm fine. Must be the dust, or something." Eddie waves his concern off, ignoring the way the itch is still blooming in his sinuses. "Anything I need to know? I haven't really had time to, you know, adjust, considering I was actively being hunted down by a bunch of jocks, but hey. It is what it is," he says, shrugging, and to his credit, Jonathan doesn't even do a double take.

Instead, he nods sagely, as if that's a normal experience (and Eddie really, really hopes it's not), and says, "The nightmares go away, eventually. It takes a little while, and they're fucking terrifying when they first start, but they go away."

"Have yours?"

Jonathan gives a wan smile. "Not yet."

Before Eddie can ask another question—maybe about how Jonathan got involved in the first place—Steve wanders over, says, "Hey, Byers," in this weird tone, and Eddie glances between the two of them for a moment.

"Hey, Harrington," Jonathan says, and his shoulders slump even further, his posture sags, and he just looks so, so exhausted, more than enough to rival the way Eddie feels right now. "I'm sorry we weren't here."

"Are you actually going to apologize for that?" Steve asks, eyes going wide. "Dude, you had no control over that. Plus, Mike's told me a bit of what happened on your end and Jesus Christ, man."

Eddie walks away, leaving them to the rest of their conversation, and settles into the corner to watch the rest of it unfold. Everyone else knows what's happening, has been a part of this for longer than he has, is catching up with each other and exchanging stories, and Eddie doesn't quite know where he fits into it all.

He just wants to go home and collapse into his bed.

But Eddie stands there, silent and more than slightly miserable, for another hour before leaving unannounced. No one seems to notice his departure, and honestly, it's a relief as he unlocks the trailer and crawls underneath his blankets.

The world can wait. He needs a minute. A week. A year.

(Jonathan had better be right about the nightmares.)

Hello I wanted to ask you something because I've been struggling a bit with this fandom lately, and I really admire you and appreciate your insight. I've been noticing a lot of post 5A fics where Eddie has to apologize, Eddie is hurting Buck, Eddie is the villain because of his decision, and I don't understand? I get that Eddie has made some poor decisions because he feels like he has no other choice/feels like he can't ask for help, and I acknowledge that Buck has every right to be hurt and upset as his best friend/partner, but there are a lot of fics where Buck freezes Eddie out and it's written that Eddie deserves it...and I just feel like maybe I'm missing something. Eddie needs help and aside from how he went about some things, I don't get why he would need to apologize for that?

omg hi well first of all i am just a silly lil lad (gnc) so i'm sure someone else has already said this Better than i have BUT i agree that there have been some interpretations of eddie's decision to leave the 118 that are...less nuanced or that kind of set eddie up as the villain and buck as the Victim and while it is No Where near as bad as the Lawsuit Arc Era™ it's definitely Present bc there is the impulse in some corners of the fandom to prop buck up as the hapless victim which...i think people know my opinion on that alkfms if it's ur thing....sure it is just Not Mine <3

i think that what's really interesting about s5 so far is that buck and eddie's conflict IS so nuanced -- they are both at fault and neither of them are at fault at the same time. they've gone through this massive trauma together and now they just don't know how to handle it so they're avoiding it altogether. and there's a lot of reasons for buck to be upset! i'm not saying buck Shouldn't be, bc of course buck is a really emotional guy! only that it's no One person's fault. buck and eddie are Both avoiding the elephant(s) in the room, they are Both falling back on bad habits (buck clinging onto the wrong kind of intimacy; eddie making Big Decisions without consulting others). right now they're hurting Each Other and Themselves completely unintentionally. and i think it could really go either way: both buck And eddie icing each other out, or both buck And eddie holding on extra tight, and i guess we'll just have to see which one it is! but in terms of fic i've read both versions done really well, as long as there is that nuance! no one is the bad guy here, except maybe for all of their compounded traumas afmsl

i think where some interpretations go wrong (to me!!!) is when buck is written in a way that he doesn't understand eddie's choice, or when buck (or the narrator) explicitly thinks eddie is The Bad Guy. because the cornerstone of buddie is that they understand each other! it's bc they understand each other so well that they Can't talk about anything real this season. so yes, buck can be hurt, buck can be really hurt by eddie leaving in the aftermath of madney and everything else, but not without compassion and understanding for eddie. and that's what's so interesting! is that buck loves chris too! buck might not have made the same choice as eddie, but if there's anyone who understands why eddie made the choice he did, it's buck. even if it hurts.

so i guess they both "need" to apologize -- not because either of them is in the wrong, but because buck and eddie have both gone through a horrible no good time and they haven't heard a lot of apologies that they probably deserved to (from shannon, from abby, from their parents, etc) and a pattern they've already established in s3 is that they DO have apologies for each other, even if they're not "needed." but yeah, overall: it's complicated! it's nuanced! fandom is not always very good at nuance (and sometimes they really really are)!
