is it so unreasonable for me to not want dream to reap the “benefits” of being a part of the LGBT community (which in this case is getting a pass to make gay jokes or say slurs i guess) if he is not clear about whether or not he is a part of the LGBT community

Please explain how she's using being Italian as an excuse to tan? She's not saying "I tan because I'm Italian" or something
ok, let’s go into it
firstly, it’s not that she’s saying that italians fake tan- she’s trying to say that her fake tan is real (to an extent) and the reason she’s dark or gets mistaken for being another race is that she’s italian (who the gp don’t know enough about usually to know that most italians are light skinned with some darker skinned areas). Also, italian-american is a whole thing in america as being not typically ‘white american’ (not ariana’s fault but definitely an issue within american culture), and ariana’s not even claiming to be american-italian, she’s claiming to be fully italian, which isn’t true because she’s third generation italian and both of her parents are the whitest americans to exist.

Also, she was a white as they come as a kid, so that as a starting point shows that she wasn’t born as a ‘tanned italian’. And she lived in Florida so it’s not like she suddenly met the sun as an adult and tanned.

And then she’s conveniently been labelled as every other race with a resounding silence from Ariana:

And does anyone remember when she, a white girl, played a white girl (with skin as white as snow) but still looked so non-white?

So taking that in, as ariana playing-off being white, let’s talk about more of the labeled/unlabeled game that she plays.
We know she fake tans, but she doesn’t label it - preferring to blame her tone on her ‘italian’ heritage. And blatantly allows for people to call her by any other ethnicity and race so that she can use cultured benefits such as aave without backlash.
She put out there that she was ‘bullied’ by ‘a girl on set’ but didn’t clarify or label anything until much later, when it suited her for it not to be victoria justice anymore and said ‘it was about 13 hehe’ after the reputation was ruined and she got to play the white woman victim bullied by the poc victoria.
She never labels her privilege or mentions that she grew up in a mansion and has never worked a real job in her life. She never talks about how lucky she is to have the money she’s has since birth- preferring to talk about Joan’s giving nature or, more commonly, how her grandfather moved over to america and had to struggle to raise a business and family - conveniently leaving out the success he achieved and then gave to Joan and subsequently Ariana.
She isn’t labeling her sexuality, and no-one should need to except that ariana has a long history with the labeling game where she profits socially and financially by saying nothing and imo it’s wrong to do that with topics such as sexuality and the lgbt community who are currently so margalized. Keep those politics the fuck away from trying to get your get out of jail free card to perform at pride.
Her omission of truth is a longstanding habit that is growing hard to ignore. In every circumstance here she profits from the ‘mystery’ of the label. And I truly believe that she doesn’t see any issue in it, she enjoys riding the fence in race, sexuality, wealth of upbring… ect because it means she can get away with things that destroy whole careers- using aave for eg. or avoiding the same hate that faces taylor swift for growing up rich and being a privileged white woman in the media and within politics.
Ariana is white, and has played the white victim subtly way more than anyone else who has been called out for it- does anyone remember the Japanese grill tattoo where she said her mental health was too bad to not culturally appropriate? And that because of the cricisism for her cultural appropriation that she hopes everyone is happy that her passions are ruined forever and that she refuses to keep learning the language, so there!

Ariana doesn’t use being Italian as an excuse to tan. Ariana weaponizes ambiguity. Which includes but is not limited to, her race and ethnicity in relation to her tan.
