#he's been rewatching HxH as a dub

My father informed me that he prefers dubs because they don't require him to read. I need to research how to legally disown a parent.

Review of sorts lol
Ok, finished the gay Joey anime! ...Very very fast lmao
What to say, what to say...
Um, ok, the happiest I felt was hearing Joey's voice. I dont hear it in anything. In anything new, anyway. I rewatch YGO a lot, both dub and sub, mixed, random, all Joey's are Joey, even when they're Jounouchi
So his voice in anything is also Joey... well, unless he does a really creepy role. But I expect that with Kaiba's voice lmao or at least I used to. Dudes been getting only hot man roles lately, literally has the voice women (and men no joke) are drooling over
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every single one of them is about Kaiba's voice. He absolutely skyrocketed thanks to Jujutsu Kaisen
Tumblr media
But, like I said, my boy Joey and his VA aren't getting any roles at all.
So him getting a lead character role was very pleasant for me. Making it a gay leading role was a huge bonus. It came out in 2018 and then the movie in 2021, during the years I didn't watch anime, but I would have fangirled like fuck if I'd been watching it weekly like I used to watch anime
Outside of that... It's pretty, most of the time. The animation can be quite inconsistent, but for the most part its a good looking anime. The movie was very pretty, the budget was upped.
Now, here's the thing. There was nothing particularly special about this BL story-wise. In fact, its very run of the mill. If you've seen or read enough BL, there are absolutely no surprises here. Nothing unexpected. Its just that this one is about actors. Actually I think Love Stage might have also been about actors... I cant fully remember. But you could replace the actors with musicians, or authors, or doctors. And you will get the same story. My fave of these run of the mill BL's is Gravitation, an old classic. This one tops it for me not only due to nostalgia, but I still sing "Spicy Marmalade" from the show all the time. It has the tuuuunes. And comedy.
Tumblr media
But yeah, they're basically all just... general romance stories. Where there's no actual plot. And I'm the worst at judging this stuff bc romance as a genre is not for me. I've made posts about how I like romance as a side genre. I prefer an action series with a side case of romance. Like, if you take Jujutsu Kaisen, its purely action, no romance. But....... there eventually could be? It happened in HxH, and created a huge OTP for me. That's my thing.
Strictly romance animes, whether gay or straight, usually fall flat on me. The straight one's I'll give props to tho are Skip Beat and Kamisama with his pretty ass Bakura face
Tumblr media
Actually Joey's voice was in this anime, he was an annoyed gay man lmao but again, these are old
So yeah, I cant judge the story. Judging from the comments, and I'm assuming 99% of them were from female fans, or fujoshis as they are called, it was well liked.
I gave it a 7 like I do with all of these types of romance animes that dont have something truly outstanding happen but aren't bad and are quite rewatchable. I did like when they went to Spain! It was just... v pretty.
There is, ofc, problematic stereotypical yaoi moments. Where would these generic stories be without them? Finding a pure, BL story is quite hard. Doukyuusei and Given are what I would consider to be non-stereotypical, if anyone wanted to compare. Both of those are lovely
But yeah, I had an enjoyable day binging the fuck out of it, which means I have a lot of work to catch up on! I did this to myself
Eh, what can ya do

I watched Onyx Equinox and Carmen Sandiego's last season! I am processing lots of emotions! Both are very good please give them a watch for Mesoamerican folklore and latina rep!
For OE though, its been a while since ive watched new anime (ahem not hxh or fmab) but this was a fun good one! It definitely wasn't what i expected and i watched the english dub since it was all i could get access to but the dub (imo) was pretty good! The creators and team did a great job a capturing the different cultures and mythos from what I've got. Aside from gore and some kinda tone whiplash at times its a fun watch! Def recommend if you're thinking about watching it. Please watch it for free on crunchyroll to support it but if you pirate it I wont blame you. (Bonus, there weren't any like, gross pervert esk characters or normal strange anime tropes ive usually had to come across so its refreshing.)
As for Carmen, i am internally in tears. The ending was not what i was expecting. I look forward to the (hopefully) many fanfics about it, and I love what we got! It had me on the edge of my seat and I had tons of fun. My one wish was that i wanted to see Carmen or Zack n Ivy give Player a good hug :,) he deserves it! Again, its more young kid friendly but filled with fun facts and artifacts about stuff from other places. The characters are interesting and easy to like but it also has its funny moments. Id probably rewatch both of these shows!

thanks @be-papas my beloved for tagging me!!!!! action START
favorite anime: revolutionary girl utena, hands down. ive seen it so many times and i can make myself cry on command by thinking about it. the soundtrack FUCKS and the show speaks to a lot of things that affect me but i am afraid to talk about so its kinda like therapy <3
least favorite anime: attack on titan. do i have to explain this. i hate that theres a resurgence happening now and that people are Still being ignorant about the blatant imperialist narrative in the year 2021. also im jewish 👶
last anime i watched: the last anime i finished was princess tutu!!! i LOVED it. the control the characters in the show exerted over the plot but like in a narrative sense was so interesting. also im a slut for deconstructions of a genre. oh and im currently watching wonder egg priority!!!! if ur not watching it yet GET ON THAT
favorite anime movie: i love cat soup, tokyo godfathers (basically anything satoshi kon really), and ,,, yugioh dark side of dimensions (dubbed) it makes me laugh. oh also interstella5555 is great... sound of the s-summer 😢 ive really been meaning to watch angel’s egg it looks like exactly my shit
comfort anime: ............naruto. but not shippuden, the original one. when i am bugging out and anxious listening to the naruto ost actually helps, its a big comfort show for me even if the obsession is waning. shippuden stresses me out too much with the bad writing but when im inebriated i like to look at the pretty colors :) and cool fight scenes. i tried to rewatch the series but im still stuck somewhere in war arc. its so dry
favorite anime character: I LOVE SASUKE. he is my ultimate comfort character. i am very emotionally attached to him. but i also love kurapika. i like revenge plots if you cant tell. i also love anthy and utena and killua and haruka (uranus) and asuka from evangelion.
shoujo or shounen: both? both. idk if i can pick. generally i watch more shounen and i loooove mp100 fullmetal and hxh etc etc. (obv naruto) but i also love shoujo!!!
if i could shift into an anime world what would it be? mob psycho 100 for sure. i want to be mob’s friend and eat takoyaki with him!!! also it just seems chill like way more chill than other anime that has psychic powers so

besides hxh what are some other animes you really like?
OH BOY
anon brace yourself i’m exhibiting restraint for your sake
Princess Tutu – AMAZING. STUNNING. MADE ME WEEP ON THE FLOOR. you think you know how it will go and it RIPS YOUR HEART OUT AND SLAPS YOU IN THE FACE WITH IT. trope-breaking, fantastic, also i have it on good authority (a friend with a lifelong ballet obsession) that the ballet choices are highly accurate. if you watch one anime i name watch this one please i beg you. The online fansubs are trash but i THINK Hulu has it (I bought the DVD for cheap on eBay in like 2013 lol)
Yu Yu Hakusho –
Tumblr media
Watch it in English because it’s gonna be one of the best dubs you’ll ever experience, ESPECIALLY from the 90s. Togashi has always been pulling shit, also you’ll come out of it with appreciation for how much he hates other people interfering with his stories. I love 4 chaotic boys.
Kill La Kill – I just rewatched this last month and it’s even better than I remembered. Joyful to behold. Studio Trigger really did say “we’re gonna make a banging anime about clothing and power dynamics and have it be super horny and no one can stop us” which, I mean, it was definitely a choice. Mako and Ryuko are in love AND dating. DON’T LOSE YOUR WAYYYYY
Cowboy Bebop – truly a classic. I think sometimes people go too feral for it but it IS amazing. the ultimate space western, excellent music, and very nice to look at to boot. See you space cowboy.
Star Driver – it’s so dumb and owns the stupidity and i love it. Kinda horny sometimes but I forgive them because every background character gets fleshed out with their own episode and it’s the closest I’ve seen to a canon ot3. Watch for the GALACTIC PRETTY BOY magical transformation sequence if nothing else.
AKB0048 – okay admittedly i haven’t rewatched this one all the way through in a while but it’s girls in space using music to fight against galactic capitalist oppression, and also a coming of age story, what’s not to like!!! banging tunes. actually gets into some of the weirdness of idol culture, they could have taken it further but given that it’s a hype anime for an actual J-pop group I was surprised they went there at all.
Mob Psycho 100 – It’s Mob Psycho 100!!! that’s it that’s the tweet!!!!
Promare – Look i just bought ANOTHER standee today don’t @ me

_( ᐛ 」∠)_ *slides directly into the "all questions" button*
Ehehe HEY! :D
ask me about anime…
   1. My first anime
That’s kind of a tricky question, because I know I watched some (edited dubs of) anime when I was really little without having a clue that it was Japanese (like this one), but I have a hard time counting those as my first real anime. I guess Pokemon? Though I think I still didn’t really know what anime was until I started watching stuff like Yu Yu Hakusho, Inuyasha, and Rurouni Kenshin on Cartoon Network.
   2. My favorite anime
This is such a hard question. But I’ll stick with my usual answer of Princess Tutu. There are series I like more overall, but most of them were based on manga and changed/removed stuff and/or didn’t animate the whole story, which makes it harder to wholeheartedly love them as anime. BnHA is pretty promising so far, though.
   3. The first anime character I was obsessed with
Um…hmm. Probably Kenshin? I think?
   4. My anime OTP
There are pairings I like a lot, but not really one I can point to and say “Yes, that’s THE OTP for me”. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
   5. An anime I can’t stand
Hmm…no specific titles are coming to mind, because how can I say I can’t stand it if I’ve never seen it? And I’m pretty good at picking things I at least think are okay (and when I don’t, I usually drop them before it gets further than “Eh, this isn’t my thing”). But in general, harem/ecchi anime. I’ll roll my eyes and put up with fanservice if the rest of the series is interesting, but when it feels like the only point is boobs and panty shots and how many girls will be fawning over the MC, I stay far away.
   6. An anime I want to watch
Hmm…I think I’ll go with Hunter × Hunter for this one. With all the streams available these days, it’s so much easier to try anything I’m interested in that I don’t have nearly as many “I really want to see this someday!” series as I used to. I’ve deliberately held off on HxH though, because I don’t want to be left hanging or forget about it if it goes on hiatus again. I’ll definitely get to it someday, though.
   7. An anime I never finished
Ahaha…most of them, especially in the past. And not even because I didn’t like them! Either I got distracted and just never came back to them (this happened a lot while waiting for the next DVD release), or I loved them so much I didn’t want them to be over so I could never bring myself to see the ending.
   8. The most recent anime I finished
Death Parade! A bit darker/creepier in places than I normally go for, but I really, really enjoyed it. I may or may not have reblogged this meme just because of this question >.>;
   9. An anime I never thought of watching but fell in love with
I’m going to say Tokyo Ghoul for this one, even though I went for the manga first rather than the anime when I finally gave it a try and am really disappointed with how the anime was handled. Please give us a FMA Brotherhood-style reboot? Please? ;-; I avoided it for a long time because it seemed too dark and gorey for me especially with the whole…eating people thing. I’m so glad I did eventually check it out, though. It’s an amazing series and it really helped keep me going last year. I haven’t enjoyed it quite as much lately as I used to, but I think it’ll always be a bit special to me.
   10. My favorite genre of Anime
Supernatural. 8DDD Especially if it takes place in the modern world.
   11. Shonen or Shojo
Both. I think I watch more shōnen overall,  but I’ve seen a lot of good series in both and I wouldn’t want to give up either.
   12. My favorite anime character of all time
Can’t pick just one. Nope. Impossible. I can cut it down to five at best. (A year ago I might have gone with Kaneki, but these days they’re all tied again X’D)
   13. An anime that I introduced to a friend
I…can’t really pick one? I mean, any friend I could possibly introduce to anime gets shown as many series as I think I can get away with without annoying them, so there isn’t really one…oh wait! There was one coworker at my old job; she knew nothing about anime, but she loved dark/horror/thriller movies. I gave her the first DVD of Death Note for Christmas one year. We didn’t talk about it all that much, so I’m not completely sure what she thought of it, but she at least liked it enough to borrow the rest of the series from me, so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
   14. The anime that I am currently watching
Right now I’m keeping up with at least nine series weekly. I watch other things while I wait for new episodes, but I just finished a couple series (one with my mom, one on my own) and haven’t decided what to watch next.
   15. An anime that never gets old no matter how many times I watch it
I don’t actually rewatch things that often, especially these days. The closest I usually come is reading the manga myself, then watching the anime with my mom (going by that definition, I’ve enjoyed the hell out of Boku no Hero Academia and Ao no Exorcist even knowing what’s going to happen). I’m going to be rewatching Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works soon, so we’ll see how that goes. I’d get tired of anything if I rewatched it too often, though.X’D
   16. If I own any anime merchandise
Oh boy do I. (°∀°) I collect figures, playing cards, and keychains more than anything else right now (especially figures), but I have a ton of plushies and charms and more wallscrolls than I could possibly put up in my room, plus a bunch of other stuff (mugs and glasses, a fleece throw, a couple pocketwatches, a lighter, a beach set, puzzles, magnets…I pick up a lot of different stuff at cons X’D).
   17. Yaoi or Yuri
Neither, if we’re talking about them as genres/tropes. I’ve tried to watch a couple “typical” yaoi series, and I couldn’t get farther than an episode or two. If we’re just talking two men or two women in a relationship, then I still couldn’t choose one over the other because it’s about the individual characters and their relationship for me, not what gender they are. (That said, more of my favorite characters are guys, so I usually wind up with more m/m pairings I’m interested in.)
   18. If I’ve ever been to an anime convention
Yes! (≧∇≦)/ I’ve gone to my local con every year since 2005 (wow, I feel old), and there’s another one I’ve been to a couple times as well.
   19. Who is my favorite anime voice actor
Suwabe Junichi. (*゚▽゚*) I love his voice so much (;ヮ;) (and it doesn’t hurt that he’s done some of my favorite characters, haha). I’ve checked out series I might otherwise have passed over just because he was in them. ^^; I have a shortlist of super favorite VAs but he’s at the top.
For English VAs, probably Chris Patton or Vic Mignogna.
   20. Sub or Dub?
Sub, though I don’t hate dubs and even prefer them for a few series. Usually I get attached to whichever cast I hear first. In the past, that was more often dubs on TV and DVD; these days I watch a lot of streams/simulcasts so I mostly see subs (I also enjoy trying to pick out words in the Japanese dialogue; sometimes I can understand a line without the subs and I’m very proud of myself X’D).
   21. If I could have any anime character’s hair style, who would it be
Why can’t I think of anything for this, I know I’ve seen some I really loved. ;OTL Uh…something long (at least waist length, if not knee) and thick, probably pulled away from the face in a ponytail or braid. Which isn’t too far from my RL hair aside from the “thick” part. ^^;
   22. Manga or Anime?
I can never properly answer this question, haha. Story-wise, I usually prefer whichever came first. Most of the time, that means manga. I also love the art for a lot of manga. But having color and motion and sound really adds to the experience for me. So…both. X'DD
   25. If any of my friends or family watches anime
My mom watches almost everything that I do.
   26. If I listen to any anime music
It’s pretty much all I listen to. X'DD Not because I don’t like other music; I just wouldn’t even know where to start with it. I tend to be more a fan of individual songs than bands/singers, so I just go about my life and when I hear a song I like I add it to my list. And I get more exposure to anime than anything else, so…¯\_(ツ)_/¯
   27. If I’m following any ongoing anime series
Yep! I’m watching nine this season. X’D Some more enthusiastically than others.
Not going to list names unless someone really wants to know. ^^;
   28. If I’ve ever been to an anime club
Yes, a friend of a friend tried to start one in our local library. I went to most of the meetings and a good chunk of the anime we watched were from DVDs I brought. X’D We just watched them, though; there wasn’t a whole lot of discussion or “club-like” atmosphere, and it kind of stopped happening after a while.
   29. If I’ve ever cried over an anime
Yes, a few times.
   30. What my last anime wallpaper was
This one (really big image, sorry ^^; ).
