The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum opened a new exhibit this weekend, “Western Edge,” exploring the roots of country rock growing out of LA in the 1970s.  

They opened the exhibit with a grand concert including some of the greats--Chris Hillman, Richie Furay, Vince Gill (of course), John Jorgenson, and Herb Pedersen to name a few, as well as my favorite guitar teacher Denny Sarokin (front and center, nailing those high notes).

Gene Clark a legjobb, nálam nem kérdés, Gram Parsons meg a majdnem olyan jó. Roger McGuinn mostanra szimpatikus lett, régen nem feltétlenül volt, David Crosby meg sosem volt az. Chris Hillman egységes életművel rendelkezik, dolgos fickó, nem rossz lemezekkel. A többi későbbi tag közül Gene Parsons híresebb lemezét hallottam, az sem rossz. Clarence White Byrds előtti zenekara, a Kentucky Colonels pedig nagyon jó bluegrass/Appalachian folk.

A No Other... olyan meg nincs még egy.

A kérdés, hogy ez az erősebb sor, vagy egy hasonló post-Beatles lenne az. Más nem nagyon van versenyben, esetleg Velvet Underground, de az egy(két)síkú - vagy az N.W.A, még inkább a Wu-Tang. Fleetwood Mac? The Beach Boys? Genesis?

SOBRE MIKE POST

Aunque su nombre no resulte reconocible al instante, la música de Mike Post sí lo es. Sus inolvidables temas para The Rockford Files, Hill Street Blues, The A-Team, Magnum P.I., NYPD Blue, L.A. Law y muchos otros clásicos de la televisión -incluida la serie Law & Order (sobre todo, en el emblemático efecto "dun-dun" de dos notas que él creó)- forman parte de la banda sonora de la vida moderna estadounidense.

Apasionado por la música desde la infancia, Post era músico de sesión en la adolescencia en la zona de Los Ángeles, y rápidamente pasó a formar parte de un legendario colectivo de virtuosos de la música de estudio conocido como The Wrecking Crew. Post tocó para prácticamente todos los miembros activos de la escena discográfica de Los Ángeles durante esta época.
