in which we find ourselves moments before disaster, see also: bel and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad decision.
Bel did not fear the dead.
He had spent too many days poring over the sick and weary; over friends, families, soldiers, knitting together wounds and soothing hurts. Too many nights preparing their bodies to return to the water, to bravely face the next cycle, the next return. He had become inured to death, numb to it over time. The faces eventually blurred together; the condolences became repetitive and trite, regardless of how sincerely he meant them.
Even despite all this, Bel felt keenly a sense of dread.
The mortuary is overwhelmingly silent as he descends the stair. The smooth marble of the walls is cold and oppressive, drawing any warmth away from the sconces that lined the room. It’s been months since he had first been here with his sister, listening to her distantly explain how it had happened, how it was an ambush, a trap lying in wait.
It got easier, with time. Bel could now withdraw the blanket away from his face without feeling the urge to weep. He could replace the copper pieces from both eyelids and set the old ones in the bowl beneath the table. He could even recite the incantation without a waver in his voice.
Every tenday he did this, gently keeping the body from returning to the moss, until he could no longer wait. Bel knew the barrel of the gun he was staring down: risk upsetting the order of things, have something else return in Bastian’s place, or worse, Bastian doesn’t return at all. But he couldn’t wait three lunar cycles.
The thing about tragedy is, life moves on, even if you don’t.
People still needed healing. They needed elixirs they’d ordered to treat their sick ones, or a place to tend to their wounds. They would make polite chatter, offer condolences. It filled the time.
One month eventually turned to two, and another to three. They began to bleed together after a while: a blur of routine and quiet grief he was never able to fully express. Sunflowers left to wilt by a grave he knew was empty, and a dull ache in the hollow of his chest that never went away.
Hope and desperation are two sides of the same coin. Bel was in no short supply of either.
So he withdraws the blanket from Bastian’s face. He removes both copper pieces from his eyelids and sets them in the bowl below the table. He tenderly sweeps the hair from his forehead and only tears up slightly as he speaks.
“Hello, Bast,” he says softly. “It’s time.”

The speed of light is actually really slow, and this is a pain in the neck.
All you aerospace engineers and economists understand my pain, but I'm not talking about signal delays from Earth to the asteroid belt, or between Chicago and the New York stock exchange. There are local problems too!
I was once working on a project that involved a big honkin’ high voltage power supply.  It was powering a bunch of klystrons, devices that produce high-energy radio pulses.  In the event that something went wrong in the experiment, the power supply needed to shut down within 20 microseconds. Any longer than 20 and our very expensive klystrons would break, to the tune of a quarter million bucks a pop.
I'm simplifying things a lot, but here’s the basic timeline involved:
Something goes wrong in the experiment (the experiment was a fusion reactor btw, but that’s not relevant here).  The clock starts ticking down from 20 microseconds.
The fault detection circuits take 8 microseconds to realize something has gone wrong. 12 microseconds left.
The power supply does its emergency shutdown procedure, which takes ten microseconds. 2 microseconds left.
Everything is shut down and safe. We breath a sigh of relief, and replace about $1K worth of parts.
There was just one problem:  When I say “big honkin’ power supply,” I mean big. It was the size of two shipping containers stacked atop each other. The only place with enough room for it was about 1000 yards away.
Tumblr media
Hm. 3 micro light-seconds.
So now we have to add an extra step to our timeline:
Something goes wrong. The clock starts ticking down at 20 microseconds.
The fault detection circuits trip. 12 microseconds left.
The fault signal travels via fiber optic to the power supply, 3 micro light-seconds away.  9 microseconds left.
The power supply takes 10 microseconds to shut down
Everything is finished… 1 microsecond too late.  We rend our clothing and spend a million dollars replacing fried klystrons.
The solution? Spend a metric buttload of cash on fancier fault detection circuits that will trip much much faster.
But we could have saved a LOT of money if the speed of light were just a tiny bit faster instead.

[begin video log
Oppy had just barely made it to Lilycove in time for the latest Hatsune Miku concert. She wandered around a bit, looking for the venue, until she saw her friend waving at her
Miku! She runs over, stopping herself from tackle-hugging her Good to see you ^u^
“Hey Oppy! I heard you got the badge from Fortree! Congratulations!” She beamed, raising a hand for a high five.
they high five, then Oppy brings out her badge case 6 now! Plus all my team except Celsius and Strelka evolved! Oppy's pokemon - Serperior, Gyrados, Cryogonal, Ninjask, Shedinja, Litwick, Metang, and Type: Null had followed her
“Hey, nice! I always wanted to try raising a Cryogonal. Never really worked out, unfortunately.”
Celsius is great! He's been carrying me through the gyms and having him around's great for the heat
Oppy then sees a familiar orange shape watching them at a distance. Considering the fact that Miku was not looking in that direction, the orange man did not appear in her view.
“I can imagine. That’s why I have Ice Voltage, to be honest.”
Oppy’s phone buzzes Hm? She opens it (over Twystcord): it’s Top Man
Opportunity was that you in the concert hall?
Yeah. Why?
...hey here's an idea. Why don't you take your friend and go check out the department store or the shrine by the sea and don't be near the concert hall for a while, k?
... >_>
She showed Miku Top Man’s conversation, and she opened her own DM with the Robot Master
Hey, uh. I saw that message. What’s going on exactly?
Well... Not sure if you saw the whole drama but I'm on slightly better terms with Opportunity now... the issue is, Dr. Wily now has someone in play who doesn't have that rapport, likes him a lot more than I do, and is a lot more dangerous in his practices... I don't want the kid getting hurt is all. I can't do anything to stop it, so I figured I'd at least warn her
Okay but like… I’ve got a concert tonight. Does it have to be tonight? Also you should totally come to one when you’re not working with a terrorist.
You have NO IDEA how much I want to be there and not with this bitter old fleabag and his drama. Also that was not up to me. I'm pretty sure Dr. Wily picked specifically tonight to make scene
Alright that makes things a lot more difficult because I can’t just. Not perform, I legally have to be there.
...good luck. Don't die :thisdoesnotpleaseme.png: (don't know if he'll do much more than cause a scrap ton of damage but you never know with this guy. He's a bit of a loose cannon)
Are you allowed to tell me who it is? I played a game or two when I was a kid I might recognize the name.
To be quite frank, Miku was just hoping that her being part Porygon didn’t ruin the whole First Law thing. Though it was the Second Law actually in this case (Wily had ordered this part of his operation be secret), but still, Top Man was able to manage something
Ninja- %(&(-&*% ^-^%-That's all I can say I guess
She looked to Oppy,  clasping her hands together. “Alright, what do you say we have a shopping trip distraction?”
! Sure! That sounds great!
but as fate would have it (of course) Miku's phone said that the concert was starting - the two girls had lost track of time - and she couldn't leave until it was over
Miku sighed slightly, but nodded at her phone. Her body pulsed, and her hair turned purple, her eyes a dark crimson. “Dagnabbit, time.” She shifted back to her normal appearance, looking back to Oppy. “Nevermind, we’ve got Bowling For Soup playing opener right now so I have to be ready in 10.”
Oh... I'll be on the lookout! Do I watch from here or in the crowd? I've never been to one of these "^^
“You watch in the crowd! I’ll ask someone to guide you there!” Almost as soon  as she said that, a green haired girl entered through the door. She didn’t say much, simply waving to Miku with a smile and waving to Oppy with a surprised face.  “Melody! Great timing! Do you think you could show Oppy to the crowd?” Melody nodded, making a gesture towards Oppy to follow her.
Oppy went back with the crowd (still toward the front though) as the concert began. As the opening bands finished their last songs, the curtains drew back, and Miku arrived onstage to raucous applause.
“How’s everyone doing tonight!”
More cheers. Miku grinned as she listened to the crowd.
“Sorry for the wait, a bit of a software issue! But I’m back now! Let’s get this started!”
We love you Miku!!!!! ^u^
While she couldn’t hear the specific call, she did hear it as part of the crowd. To be fair a lot of them were saying that exact same thing. “I love all of you too!” Music began, and she began her performance. She really seemed to be getting into it.
Right as one of her more popular numbers was reaching its head, the backup musicians began being attacked by... a Weavile?!
The music stopped almost instantly (to be fair, the backup musicians were for an acoustic cover of Hypocrite Justice they were going to do later), and Miku turned around in shock. She immediately rushed to the musician’s aid, changing to Fire Voltage as she ran.
“Get off of him!”
the Weavile's movements are strange, almost as if it was programmed to attack, and when it got close to Miku, she felt its surface was metallic. The Weavile tried to hit Miku with a Throat Chop, but it was parried by a large, thick, pink hand from behind her. Miku was… rather surprised to see the hand, looking back to see who owned it. How’d it get this far, she was on stage alone, wasn’t she? Looking next to her, she sees Oppy had somehow made her way onto the stage to protect her. She gives her a thumbs up with her non-shifted hand, then turns to the Weavile, who's still trying to cause as much damage as possible, this time attacking a fog machine, making it so the area is covered in mist and the audience has a hard time seeing what's going on. Miku, admittedly, was starting to panic a bit. She was a pop star, she was completely and utterly unqualified to handle this.
Wait hold on, fog machine! She could handle that at least.
She shifted to Flying Voltage, leaping across the stage before changing to Steel, making her much heavier in comparison. She may not have fancy attacks or anything, but she could protect her fans.
fortunately a Mystical Fire from Candela took out the Weavile
Phew... what was that? And who sent that thing?
“I don’t know…” Miku put her hand to her chin. The answer was incredibly obvious, but she wasn’t really made for thinking with Steel Voltage. She swapped to Psychic, and the answer hit her like a load of bricks. “Oh right yeah Wily.”
Almost as she realizes it, the other fog machine breaks, and a stage light almost falls on her. Oppy moves her out of the way, then the mist thins enough to see a strange, ninja-like robot put the metal Weavile in a pokeball - this was DWN-024, Shadow Man
“Aaaand this is exactly the guy I was expecting. Oppy? You might wanna run.”
Back to Steel Voltage she went. Oppy shifts a shield around herself but stays
I'm gonna help too if you need it!
“That’s kind of the thing? I was also going to, I haven’t done anything like this before.”
Neither have I, really. The other guy didn't really want to be there so he didn't go all out like this guy, but I think we can beat him!
Shadow Man throws a Shadow Blade that strikes Oppy and she recoils, but isn't seriously hurt. Oh dear, oh no. He was attacking the kid. That wasn’t good. How was she supposed to take care of this guy!?
Wait hold on… if she remembered right he wasn’t made with the others of that line… but he was still weak to Top Man’s weapon… which could only really mean…
And so, Hatsune Miku, the Cyber Songstress, threw her full body weight against a ninja.
Urgh- What are you doing?! He tries to launch a Shadow Blade, but misses by a longshot
“Good question!” She responded, charging forward more. Maybe Fighting Voltage would have been better, but she needed the extra weight considering the fact that her opponent was made of metal.
Miku then discovers she was pushing against a log - the real Shadow Man descended from above and struck her. To be fair, she was expecting something like that. Which is why she was in Steel Voltage. However, she did not remember that she was barely over 150 pounds with Steel Voltage active. Stupid pop star diets. She made her distaste for the situation known, extremely vocally even. “That was just cheating there.”
Shadow Man grunted, then a second Shadow Man then appeared next to him, and then the two scrambled themselves, making it hard to tell which was which
Huh?! There's two now?!
“It’s okay, it’s just Double Team. Got anything that can hit both of them?”
She almost wished Melody was here just for the extra help. But that would just be adding another person who had no idea how to fight in here.
I could make something! she shifted her hand into a long flail, and swung that at the two Shadow Mans, only for them both to disappear
Behind you Shadow Man knocked over Oppy with a hit from behind
OW! NO FAIR!
“Hmm… there’s a bit of a problem here… wait, I’ve got it!”
She shifted to Psychic Voltage. That should give her a better view than Steel. If he’d just stay still she could enter his circuits, but she didn’t have that option. through Psychic Voltage, she's able to see Shadow Man attempting to sneak up on Oppy through the mist. Miku’s eyes widened, electing to — instead of being an idiot and punching the robot in the face — warn Oppy about the incoming stealth attack. hearing Miku's warning, Oppy instead makes her body larger, squishy, and slightly adhesive. Shadow Man gets stuck on her and Oppy traps him
Good job Oppy!” Miku clapped slightly. “Let’s see if I can’t do anything here…”
She approached the robot, looking for any sort of entry point to his system. She was hoping it would be simple, but things rarely were. Shadow Man's putting up a beast of a fight, and the systems are already hard to grasp, being not of earth...
Miku! Look! Oppy points out an interface port - likely where Dr. Wily would connect to for maintanence. She moves this closer to Miku for convenience
“Thanks!” She nodded, sticking a finger into the port and transferring herself into the droid. It looked like she was still there, but her eyes were lifeless.
Inside Shadow Man is a landscape that seems like Shadow Man's stage from Mega Man 3, complete with enemies. She gets the sense she'll be ejected if she gets defeated, so better make this count. She was so happy for this, she never thought that she would ever find a use for this. Immediately enemies begin approaching her - it does seem like she has some rudimentary equipment based her franchise. Aw heck yeah, she can do stuff. Apparently the question of “what would Miku do in a platformer?” was answered with “Whatever the hell made sense for the setting.” Miku eventually made her way to Shadow Man, in his mindscape, and he immediately began going on the offensive, jumping around and throwing Shadow Blades. Well. She was hoping that she’d be able to talk things out with him, but that did not seem to be the case. At the very least, this was a very familiar pattern. For Dr. Wily! though his attacks are relentless, she knows them, and in short order Shadow Man is defeated. Miku automatically ejects, but Shadow Man has gone slack
you entered my mind... I'm lucky I trained for that. You saw only what I allowed you to, but even still... I'm in no shape to fight anymore…
Being back out of his mind was. Definitely a shock. She expected to leave on her own.
“Normally this would be when we’d like. Blow you up and take the chip thingy but we want answers. What are you doing here?”
you're a fool if you think I'll tell you
at that moment an awful noise is heard and the Wily UFO flies overhead that descends a grabber claw that collects Shadow Man and startles Oppy into letting go
Excellent work Shadow Man! We have what we needed from that lab now!
strangely, Strelka seems to notice the UFO and starts trying to chase it for some reason
Strelka what are you doing?!
“Huh? What’s going on?”
Miku attempted to chase after it, but as it turned out, being tackled by a ceratanium-adjacent-constructed robot when you yourself weigh 90 pounds normally really hurts, and she collapsed onto the ground.
Oppy doesn't notice at first, chasing Strelka until the Wily UFO flies out of sight and Strelka howls mournfully
Strelka what's wrong? Oppy then sees the guy from the Devon lab earlier
"Oh... it's you. Well if you want your dumb mutt you can keep it. Without the type memories it's useless to us, and given how much of a pain that project's been we're probably gonna cut funding for it. I won't bug you again about Type: Null"
Well... that's one thing down, now to deal with Wily. Wait where's Miku?
realizing, she runs back to her friend and helps her back up
Wily got away…
Miku was in. A lot of pain. Like… so much pain.
“It’s fine, we’ll get him later. Or. You will. I need to go to the hospital. I can message one of the others to help at least, I don’t wanna just leave you out on your own.”
I'll get you there, don't worry Oppy shapeshifts into a form that could fly her there and gets Miku to the hospital as fast as she can

Now we have our crime scene.
Tumblr media
Which is going to be tremendously difficult to investigate while corpo-cops are pounding on the door and we're wanted for terrorism.
Either make it fast or bail, Yuma. Even if we can't investigate the scene right now, Shinigami's got that one ability that lets you revisit crime scenes from within the Mystery Labyrinth, which hasn't been used since its introduction.
Wonder if there's gonna be a second body down in the meeting room? Danganronpa Tradition is that Chapter 3 always features two victims, but this isn't Danganronpa so that might not hold up.
Tumblr media
Looks like Yuma's opting for "make it fast". Alright, my dude, let's go check out the-- What the hell is that? There's something lying on the ground in the distance, on the left side of Yuma.
Tumblr media
Don't worry, Shinigami. I think I've already effectively ruled out suicide. His gun is too powerful for his body to have dropped in that direction after a point-blank shot from his right side.
Tumblr media
And now there are bombs going off somewhere in the district. Those can't be the cam-bombs we planted, right? We didn't put any in Dohya.
Tumblr media
These useless clowns are slamming the door with all their might while Yuma, in absolutely no peril, stands here calmly contemplating their impending intrusion.
Meanwhile, there's a perfectly good alternative way up. If Shachi didn't take a bullet to the skull, he'd be long gone. But sure. Keep punching the door with all your might. It's not about arresting Shachi anymore. This is a matter of manly pride now. This door must not win!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Weird to leave it in the lock like this. I dunno. The main takeaway is that Shachi probably locked the door when he came through, and obviously nobody passed through it afterward. But. I dunno. It's weird that the key was left in the lock, but I don't know what to make of it.
Tumblr media
It would, however, be possible to snipe from the rooftop, if you were a professional sniper like Iruka.
Tumblr media
I'm not sure if that's going to be relevant, but it's important to keep note of.
Tumblr media
But it wasn't here when we were up here looking for a means of escape earlier.
Hm... If you hooked it around the high-voltage wires then you might be able to... Mm, I don't know if the physics would work for that.
This is interesting. It's like an open-air locked-room mystery. There must be other clues that I can--OH RIGHT THE BODY.

Prompt:   "We can't do this on our own."
Fandom: Fanf Security Breach, Apoca-plex au
Rating: G
Warnings: none
"Sunny, there you are!" Roxy's voice made Sun flinch.
He looked down at the human pressed to his chest and in a moment of quick thinking tucked them inside the tarpaulin covering one of the go-karts.
Today had not been a good day for evasion. Moon's internal voice was urgent. Their shared system buzzing as the two of them scrambled for a way to deflect yet another of their companions.
The familiar clank of Roxy's footsteps heralded her approach.
"Hey, what are you doing over here?" She asked
"Nothing!" Sun truned his head 180 degrees before allowing his body to follow.
He let out a giggle to hide the whirring of his fans as he did his best to battle his mounting anxiety.
They couldn't see her. No no no, that wouldn't do at all!
"Need a hand with your bots?" Sun asked, gesturing to the wrench in Roxy's hands.
She was the least damaged of the Glamrocks. She wore a tailored pair of maintenance overalls. The crooked stitching of them marking this set as one of Monty's earlier handywork. She fidgited with the tool in her hand before loudly tisking and giving Sun a playful shove.
"Well, yeah I was expecting you hours ago! I need you to help with the little wires in the back." She tossed her hair dramatically and stomped back towards her grease pit.
Sun followed taking in the sight of what had become a well stocked workshop. Go-karts, sat on cinderblocks, spare parts lined up against the wall, while scavenged tools had been mounted on the exterior wall of the beauty salon. It was a scavenger's gold mine.
Sun glanced back at the tarpaulin.
A wet floor bot sat humming in the corner, following Sun's and Roxy's movement.
Sun didn't really mind them, though Moon had a the better comprehension of them.
In the center of the room a one armed driver bot slumped in a chair.
"Right, now help me with the head." Roxy knelt in front of the chair and took the damaged assistant driver bot's head in both hands.
Standing behind the chair, Sun began the delicate task of reattaching the wires at the base of the bot's neck to the rest of their battered body. Roxy had popped out most of their dents.
Sun liked rewiring the bots Roxy patched up. It pulling, coiling and weaving all those high voltage little wires together.
~It's just like friendship bracelets!~
~No, it's not.~ Moon replied dryly.
"How are you and Moon holding up?" Asked Roxy, breaking the two out of their internal exchange.
"Juuust dandy!" Chimed Sun.
"Hm, good. I want to head down to the tunnels again soon. Monty's joints are terrible. A human could hear him squeaking a mile away."
If Roxy saw Sun's fingers twitch she made to mention of it. Moon was grumbling again and Sun worked very hard not to spare the tarpaulin another look.
"The karts are dry?"
"Yeah, or too gunked up..." Roxy wrinkled her nose at that, trailing off before adding, "Has Moon had any luck with security?"
Sun didn't answer right away, taking great pains to finish twisting the final wire ends together and wrap them with electrical tape. Another dwindling resource.
"No, he hasn't..." Sun said reluctantly.
The silence had that heavy quality to it again. Roxy let out a facsimile sigh.
"No luck with patching through or rewiring around it either." With a shake of her head she settled the bot's firming back in place and clicked the neck back into place.
"What if we looked for another hu-"
"No." Roxy stood abruptly, blocking Sun's view of his little guest's hiding place.
Her mood darkened, optics narrowing.
He felt his sunrays retract, drooping slightly. Still, he knew that he had to try.
~she won't listen, Sunny.~ Moon warned.
"We can't do this on our own." Sun pressed, resting his hands on the bot's shoulders.
A growl left Roxy's voicebox in a burst of static.
"We have to!" She snapped, "A human isn't going to help. They hate us! And what? Do you think a technician is just gonna waltz in the front door, Sun?" Roxy gestured exasperatedly before letting her hands drop to her sides.
"Well, maybe not...but what if we found a human? One that didn't-"
~Sun, what are you doing?~
"Just drop it Sun!"
Combined, both Roxy and Moon brought Sun up short. He stuttered, rays shrinking and his hands coming together to fidget with his damaged finger casings.
"B-b-but I -" Roxy placed a grease stained hand on top of Sun's, ceasing his picking.
"Please, Sun. It was that kind of thinking that got us into this mess..." Roxy gave him a pleading look and, reluctantly, he nodded.
"S-sorry."
"It's fine, I just... we have to beat this." Roxy tossed her forgotten wrench back in a box by the wall with a clang, "I am not losing to a line of code!" She growled, pumping herself up again, "I was the best at racing and I will be the best at fixing!"
Sun smiled even though he couldn't say he shared her bravado.
"If any of us can, it's you Rox." He conceded.
Roxy preened under his compliment.
"I know, now let's get this little twerp back online!" Taking a kart battery, she hooked up the bot and began pressing the necessary buttons behind their maintenance panel for a manual reboot.
"What do you want to name this one?" Asked Sun, watching on with a twisting feeling in his circuits.
Roxy hit the final switch and clicked the panel on the bot's back shut.
"How about Milo?" She mused.
The bot jolted to life in the chair, limbs twitching before stablizing. They looked at Roxy, then Sun and back.
Sun smiled at the bot. That was another one, successfully salvaged.
"I think Milo's fantastic."

The transatlantic submarine cable
The transatlantic submarine cable was the brainchild of Massachsetts merchant and financier Cyrus W. Field. He first proposed the laying of a telegraph cable along the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean between Ireland and Newfoundland. The first attempt to lay the cable with help of HMS Agamemmnon took place in 1857 and 1858. It was possible to draw on good experience with coastal cables; however, the cable laid across the Atlantic became unusable after a few weeks of operation because DC's Whitehouse used excessively high voltages during operation. It is suspected that the cable would not have had a long service life due to insulation problems inherent in the manufacture and handling of the cable.

Ten years later, however, better insulated cables were available that achieved a much longer service life. So-called coiled lines in the form of submarine cables were used. In 1865, a new transatlantic line was laid by the steamship Great Eastern; but the cable broke 600 miles off the coast of Newfoundland and could not be recovered. Between 13 and 27 July 1866, another cable was laid by the Great Eastern and put into service the following 28 July 1866.

For strenght and water resistance, the cable had a core of seven copper wires, sheated in galvanized iron and covered in jute, around whoch were wound 10 iron wires, each covered in Manila hemp and gutta-percha.

HeliosR - Sing in the darkness - Chapter 2 - Part 14
Tumblr media
Translation of Sing in the darkness from ‘Helios Rising Heroes’, a new side arc alongside the current main story arc Like the dawning light.
Sage: You’re an outstanding kid too, Will-kun. Being with Akira-kun must serve as nice encouragement for the both of you, no?
Will: Encouragement….
Sage: I’ll be looking forward to the next round of tryouts. I’ll be waiting with high hopes for you two to join.
Akira: Yeah! Ya better wait!
Will: I will also look forward to working together with Sage-san. Is it okay for me to reach out whenever I see you in town again?
Sage: Of course♪
Will: Thank you very much…!
Tumblr media
Will: Our apologies for bothering you while on the job. Let’s go, Akira♪
Akira: Aw yeah! Voltage max!!!!!!!
Sage: Fufu, how energetic.
Sage: (Yeah… Since we got admitted, it’s time for the next generation to do their best and aim for the tryouts.)
Sage: (And then it continues on and on. Reaching your dream doesn’t mark the end of it.)
Sage: (Okay, gotta do my best so I won’t lose against those kids…!)
Tumblr media
Civilian girl A: Hey, did you see that?
Sage: (....Hm?)
Civilian girl B: I did I did, like in that alleyway right? Things were looking kinda dangerous there
Civilian girl A: All you could see were a bunch of bad looking dudes… wonder if that kid caught up in it will be okay?
-
Tumblr media
Sage: (---They mentioned an alleyway, would it be here?)
Sage: (And caught up… in a way of getting shaken down for money by delinquents, maybe…?)
Bad looking guy A: Told ya that hiding’s pointless!
Sage: !?
Bad looking guy A: We already got evidence that ya were the one ransacking our turf before.
Sage: (D-doesn’t look like they’re on the same level as delinquents. There’s 1, 2, 3…. 6 people and only one of them is surrounded?)
Tumblr media
Siams: Tch… the hell you yapping ‘bout. Don’t remember a damn thing before taking shelter.
Bad looking guy B: B-bastard…. you and your goddamn smug mug!
Siams: Gonna throw punches? Quit babbling and do it already then
Bad looking guy C: Oi, let’s clip ‘em already. Ain’t nobody gonna notice when some mutt like him disappears.
Bad looking guy D: This brat’s already been pushing his luck for too long now, heard that other gangs have been turnin’ him away
Siams: ……..
Bad looking guy A: Wasn’t thinking on goin’ back empty-handed either way today. Listen you mutt, don’tcha ya think yer getting out of this scot-free!
Sage: (T-this is bad! I have to help---)
Bad looking guy A: Guah!?
Sage: ….!

Woag!!! this au seems so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bc terminal takes heart's place, they're the one that gets blinded??? is this related to signal's attempts to (i presume) frame terminal for an overthrown attempt of circuit? Does circuit have a trident or does terminal still have it?WOWOW THis is suck a cool au >.<
thank you for your kind Words !!! x-]
yeah terminal is the one who's fully blinded. signal also loses one eye the way mind is often headcanoned to .
the overthrow/betrayal (which you are correct about :-]) and the blinding are Mostly unrelated events
terminal still has the trident !

...What, was this some sort of cosmic joke? Since when did the shattered reflection have a mirror image?
The tenrec's default was a burbling stew of rage and violence, but those trace cases of confusion were the first to flitter over the face. Eyes pinch, their glance is askew with the natural chaos of bewilderment. Who was this guy? And why did he look so much like her? If she had some shoddy dumpster-diving older brother, it was certainly news to the doppelganger.

Though, it didn't take long for that aforementioned default of hers to kick in. It's the crunching of teeth, pointed teeth flashing as a lip caught itself in a sneer.
"I know what they say about imitation bein' the sincerest form'a flattery, but c'mon. This is kinda ridiculous, isn't it? I've been makin' a name for myself, sure, but I didn't think fan clubs would be the thing poppin' up. I thought my reward for beatin' on that blue rat's bundle'a tag-alongs would be more of a..."
—Hm. The words are lost while her thoughts take a moment to catch up. Her head tilts, thumb and middle finger connect to snap in the meantime.
Jolts of high voltage jump and shutter in sparks with each quick motion. "...A head hunt for me? A real battle royale situation, I guess. Guess those schmucks in their ivory towers don't care when one'a their friends get beat to an inch'a their life."

Hm. I wonder if Susurrus' initial creation was that sacrifice heavy, or if the ritual in the DLC was simply the level of 'voltage' required to 'jump-start' him back into working order. I only question this because his existence was apparently something that needed a higher power's intervention/involvement, so it seems odd that Sus Round One would require so many lives if it was shouldering any of that burden. I also wonder if, whatever that entity was, it wasn't something that was 'meant' to create/reproduce... kinda like the Tantas themselves, making it and Sus a foil to Cinta and Frey, and also possibly being part of the reason why he would be an 'abomination' (on top of being fuelled by sacrifice and other such fun things).
I also really wish we knew how Cuff felt being called that by someone from Rheddah— was it easy for him to brush off because Tanta = bad now in his mind, or does it quietly bother him? (I agree with the take that Cuff in the DLC is getting confronted by his own ignorance towards the nation he claims connection to, and having the only Rheddig person that ever speaks to him [if still indirectly] on-screen call him an abomination must have had SOME impact, even if he doesn't outwardly show it [at first])
Ah well, this is what fic is for 🥲
I don't know!
It's possible that Susurrus' initial creation wasn't as sacrifice-heavy, and that said higher power offered its own energy to facilitate the process... but I feel that it's also very possible that said higher power simply taught the Rheddig the methods of making something like Susurrus. It may have helped along the way, but the bulk of the effort could still lie with Rheddah and sacrifices. Which, y'know, one of my pet theories is that part of the reason Cuff is so duty-obsessed is that his initial birth may have been fueled by largely Rheddig lives... lives raised in and obsessed with a culture of duty. That obsession may have colored a significant part of the energy first used to make him.
Oh, I think Cuff and Frey are absolutely foils of one another, specific birth-origins or no. They are almost exactly opposite in their relationship to duty and choice... like, mirror images of one another. It's fascinating!
In terms of Cuff's feelings on being called an abomination, I think it depends upon whether he holds the Rheddig Tanta in high esteem or not. I, personally, wonder if said Tanta is actually a current ally of Rheddah or not. I wonder if she's maybe speaking from beyond the grave, and perhaps Rheddah no longer has Tantas. Perhaps it has something to do with the conflict between Rheddah and Athia.
my fun lil pet-theory is that the Tanta of Rheddah and the First Tanta are the same person
Well! All of this is indeed what fic is for c:
