Day 90 – the Clothing-Optional Pool
J got up early, returned her snorkelling equipment and went to take photos of the area where Michael had his birthday party, with the special Seychellois rocks. The water was crystal clear and the rocks were unbelievably beautiful. This ended up being J’s favourite beauty spot on the island.
We had breakfast as usual with sparkling wine. J mixed her daal curry with fried eggs again. We saw the aging rocker and Michael, Nina and Liam/Otto. We said good bye to them, as we are all leaving today.
J tried to give Liam/Otto a hug. He wasn’t interested, but he reached out to S for a big hug. Michael gave S his last two cigars as he’s going to buy two boxes at duty free in Dubai and the limit is only 50. Apparently his father will not let him back into the country without two boxes of Cohibas. It was a thoughtful gesture and we will be sure to see them again in London, Munich, or some exotic location.
Given how many times we have raved about the clothing-optional pool, we thought we should share a video before we leave.
After doing a few bits of admin, we checked out of the hotel and headed to the bar for one last drink at the Labriz. We got picked up at the bar and were taken to the jetty for our boat trip back to the main island, Mahé. Although the sea was still choppy, this boat ride was a doozy compared to the previous trip to the Labriz. The car transfer to the Hilton Northolme took around 10 minutes. Check-in was a breeze and we were shown to our room. Although much smaller than our room at the Labriz, we appreciated the very peaceful ambiance and incredible view from our room. We arrived in our room to find elephant towel creatures on our bed, a jacuzzi tub and a welcome spread of Pinot Noir and sweets. We will let you guess which of those items was consumed first.
We also have a balcony with sunloungers, a couple’s sunlounger and table and chairs overlooking the ocean. As there are much less mosquitoes here, we were able to complete a few bits of remaining admin while listening to the waves break against the shore. J sat looking out at the turquoise sea, palm trees, Seychellois boulders and colourful buildings across the way. She can’t imagine a better view or soundtrack – it is very similar to the view from Jack’s beach bar in Bequia or some of her favourite views in Italy. As the WiFi is speedy, J can imagine working from here and will be sad to leave.
We made it to the bar just in time for happy hour. J had a great time taking photos of the bar and beach area. There is a little beach bar which is currently closed, but looks lovely. J thinks this is one of the most beautiful hotels she’s ever seen. The cosmopolitans were excellent and given the view of the ocean and the fact that the menus at the restaurant and bar were exactly the same, we decided to have dinner at the bar. S had the ‘vegetable tasting’ of tempura, grilled vegetables and hummus, and J had the miso red snapper wrapped in a banana leaf. The food was pretty average. The waiter told us there are only seven rooms occupied at the moment, out of more than 50. Apparently there are little jungle cats on this island too. We saw a black and white spotted one begging at the tables.

The Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa on Silhouette Island is one of the few resort islands getting close to paradise. Silhouette Island is the third largest island in the Seychelles, an archipelago of 115 islands off the coast of East Africa in the Indian Ocean.  Seychelles holidays | Seychelles Beach Resort | Travel | Wanderlust | Bubbly Moments #travel #seychelles #hiltonhotels #silhouetteisland #hiltonlabriz #seychellesholidays #seychellesbeachresort http://bit.ly/2Ve5JCV

Day 89 – The people make the stay
We woke up early for breakfast to make our 11am COVID tests. Once again, we opted for breakfast curry and sparkling wine. This time, J mixed her spicy chickpea masala with some fried eggs. It was delicious. Of course we sat next to Michael, Nina and Liam/Otto. Nina informed us that even the jungle cats could only finish about half of the leftover meat from Michael’s birthday party.
We then headed off for our 12th COVID test. This nurse is our favourite COVID tester. She is friendly, quick and to the point. We walked to the dive shop where J swapped out her short fins for full-size fins and then took the long-ish walk back to the villa instead of taking the buggy. On the way, we ran into Karl and Melanie. Karl, noticing S’ beaded hair for the first time, got really animated and said it looked like Keith Richards’ hair. But he still won’t produce S’ song.
S went back to the clothing-optional pool. J took one more stab at snorkelling. Although this time she had the right fins, the weather was overcast and the visibility was rubbish. In addition, her snorkel was malfunctioning. Hopefully she has better luck in Zanzibar. We took one last dip in the ginormous tub. S had to have a conference call with his US tax advisor. Apparently the US IRS does not respect the fact that S is on a world tour and taxes are quite an inconvenience.
We then headed to happy hour and decided to order room service from the bar. Of course we ran into Michael, Nina and Liam/Otto, but they packed it in early. Nina also agreed with J that the snorkelling conditions are not easy here so J felt a little better about her total snorkelling FAIL.
After dinner, we headed back so J could get a head start on packing. As this is a multi-hour affair and quite complicated, she was happy to get most of it done before heading to bed. We should note that while we thought we wouldn’t make friends and were prepared to slit our wrists in the ginormous tub, Nina, Michael and Liam/Otto really made our stay. This is further proof that the people you meet can dramatically affect the time you have, no matter where you stay.
