another good half life thing is the way that all these dangerous aliens are presented as being also kinda cute. taking weird monsters and being like "but what if one was friendly/they were also cute" is a home run for me. i hope we get to see more of how houndeyes and bullsquid and etc have taken to earth in the next game

i lovelovelove gordon and barney’s friendship actually because like, gordon’s this prodigy physicist and barney’s this laid back guy who never finished college and doesn’t really know what he wants to do with himself, and on first impression you’d think gordon IS kind of uptight and straight-laced, but he sees this goofy security guard reading a book about aliens and is immediately like omg that’s my favourite alien book, and barney’s like right on man, let’s hang out, hey what kind of music do you listen to, and gordon’s like post-grunge psychadelic mathwave and barney’s like haha i don’t know what the fuck that is but we’re best friends now. that’s how it happened
