You've made me really curious about Mark. Now my brain contemplates the possibility that he's alive and that somehow he'll be back in the middle of the BIG ANGST! I know it's farfetched, but you know brainrot, lol! He loved Bambi. For him, not coming back to her would take something really big. But this thing he has to do because it's the right thing has me really curious. And I wonder if we'll learn about it in some way.

The fact Bambi is the one who starts to teach Ellie the truth and importance of familial love, to me, feels so right. How parents love their kids is one of the most powerful things to have and feel. And to someone like Ellie, it doesn't exist unless someone literally points to her. I teared up a bit with the moment between Joel and Ellie after being patched up. She's finally realizing how much Joel loves her and that to him, she'll always come first. It makes me happy for her to know it will always be there, even if, due to her upbringing, I don't know if she'll be able to fully accept it. They are becoming a little family, which makes me fear more THE BIG ANGST. Because the doctor is right, they are Joel's girls.

And don't start me on Bambi and Joel at the end of the chapter. Their interactions always make me feel so much. The depth and strength of their feelings are touchable with your words and a pleasure to read. Thank you for that and the chapter itself! And just a little bit sorry for the ramble; you wrote almost 10k words, and that's a lot of material to discuss, lol!♥️♥️♥️

I'm loving how curious everyone is about Mark. He definitely loved Bambi. Enough to keep coming back to her over and over again for years. I really can't wait to get to what's coming related to him lol I'm overly excited about it and I love that everyone has latched onto him and has theories about him and AHHH! OMG Thank you! I think Bambi is the perfect person for this job, too. She has this unique connection with Ellie - pseudo mom/close friend/fellow queer/role model of sorts (Ellie high key loves all the shit Bambi can do with the horses, she has a bit of "I want to be her when I grow up" going on) - that makes what she says to her stick differently than when it comes from someone else. The three of them are developing a family dynamic that will take some getting used to from everyone but I'm so looking forward to how it unfolds. Though... valid fear on the big angst I'M SORRY!!

And yessss I love the emotional intimacy with Joel and Bambi. She obviously has a lot of hang ups in the physical intimacy space but both of them have a lot of trauma baked into emotional closeness, too. The fact that they can lean on each other and be open with each other just makes me so happy. I love them both so much 😭 I know I made them but they feel like friends or something to me, I love seeing them grow together and I'm so happy you do, too!!

I truly feel that s4 (and the show as a whole tbh) would have benefited greatly from having more shivgerri scenes. They could easily have had a really complex and fascinating dynamic. Gerri desperately needed scenes that didn't revolve around Roman. And Shiv needed scenes that weren't her just interacting exclusively with men who were trying to undermine her. Yes, the misogyny is relentless and inescapable, but sometimes it's refreshing to look at that through the relationship two women do or don't have. It also would have served the themes well because they are all business whenever they talk, yet they are tied together by a pseudo familial bond. Plus I like it when they snipe at each other.

the shivgerri scene in pre-nuptial is one of the most memorable of all scenes in my mind just because j and sarah are such fucking powerhouses and because they're just characters that need to interact more.

of all the female characters shiv and gerri most have the shared experience of figuring out what it takes to be a (relatively) successful woman in a boy's club and doing that, therefore succumbing to and enforcing the misogyny they're also victims of. it makes their characters really valuable alone but together even more delicious. also like, shiv doesn't respect gerri for the same reason's logan doesn't (particularly re:roman and their relationship) and gerri doesn't take shiv seriously because she's the girl sibling. 😭.

so they do have this pseudo familial bond but neither of them really cares beyond the surface level because they have become women who have risen above their womanhood and therefore don't see family or other potential connections as any more than a practical means to an end. so of COURSE they are fighting. and i wouldn't have it any other way. but i would have 100+ more hours of it

Ohh anon that's an interesting question! Indeed I really like siscon but I wouldn't be opposed to brocon or brosis either 👀 though I don't think i have many ships in those areas. does s.ylki count as brosis? It feels like brosis in my heart but ik the s.ylki nation would excommunicate me for saying that 😂 speaking of s.ylki I can also enjoy a certain brand of selfcest depending on the context. Thinking about it, I think I only like it when it has some form of canon base to stand on? I'm thinking about yes s.ylki and... the lutece twins from bioshock infinite, maybe? Were they canon? I can't remember if they were canon but iirc they had some sort of vibe going on. Like they had an actual relationship with each other to begin with. For example I couldn't really pull an onceler fandom and cut a characted in half myself 😂. Again, s.ylki nation would hang me in the town square for implying selfcest is sorta like shipcest but come onnnn come on come on come on that's what gives it spice 😭

As for parent/child... it's not that I dislike it, it just seems like such an oxymoron in my mind. Like, I can't imagine a romantic partner that is also your parent, it just makes no sense to me, and you couldn't hold me at gunpoint to "do my research" because I don't want to read about instances like that irl, I don't even want to think about them. I have nothing against people who ship them and it's not like I have any STRONG EMOTIONAL REACTION when encountering momcon in the wild but ehhh I think I will pass. As for aunts or uncles and niblings... you probably already know my answer 😂 the age gap is a bit off-putting in most cases but I'm open to making exceptions (brulores my beloved).

What else? mmm I want to say I like step-siblings or adoptive siblings but sadly a lot of shippers will take any gap to thrust in an argument as to why noooo it's not actually incest, see cos cos cos their adoptive parents are horrible and to imply they're siblings would imply their adoptive parents were real parents which is clearly not the case, they are childhood friends to lovers and victims of the same abuseeeee or noooo their parents got married for political reasons so it's not a REAL family or nooo they clearly don't have the same DNA or nooo they don't see each other as family etc etc and you can't really argue there because everyone is allowed to see this lowkey pseudo-incestuous ship as whatever they want, but it does make me lose interest when the majority tries to force their interpretation on others and it becomes hard to find like-minded people.

half-siblings... mmm i think the interesting thing about half-siblings is the idea of separate family members, possibly with negative feelings about each other, coming to know each other and become family again. It's interesting to see two characters not fully knowing where they stand with each other trying to figure out their relationship (which is kinda what we're working on with the black moth au 👀) though again some people will take any chance to un-incest the incest and say that nooo they didn't know about each other's existance until now so it doesn't count and again, there is nothing wrong with that perspective. I disagree with it in terms of personal taste only. In fact one of my favorite EA fics has roughly that same premise. But I usually don't like that approach. Call me old-fashioned but I like my incest incestuous 😭
