Taking a road trip!
Tumblr media
Taking the scenic route
Digby, Isabelle, Arabella, and I are kicking off the new year with a road trip!
We’ll be driving down Sunset Rose Blvd. - one of the most prettiest highways in the area that’s full of nice places to stop by - until we get to Wizpire. After spending a couple days over there, we’ll be taking Lighthouse Lane through Spectrum Falls and make several stops along the way until we get back to the camp.
The RV’s all packed and ready to go!
Places to see at Sunset Rose Boulevard Tea and Cakes For breakfast we stopped by a cute cafe that was highly recommended by our friends. Good thing we got there before the morning rush ‘cause as soon as we left, the place was started to get packed! I got oolong tea, a taro bun, and a matcha mochi cake - yum! Also, I love that they serve the tea in a reusable cup because the design is so pretty and it keeps the tea warm for a long time without burning your tongue.
Paper Florals A stationery shop full of handmade goodies! After hearing about Rolly & Cece expanding their online shop by opening a store in Stellaire Creek, I was ecstatic. So obviously we had to stop by there and check it out! Today was also a lucky day as we got to meet Rolly & Cece in person, which was super awesome as I’m a fan of their vlog since discovering them last year.
Spent nearly 900,000 bells on a journal and a bunch of stickers - but it was definitely worth it!
Bubbles to Go For lunch we stopped by a sandwich and bubble tea place! I heard it’s known for their tiger milk tea and banh mi sandwiches. We also got shaved ice topped with condensed milk, mung beans, and grass jelly - a childhood favorite! It’s been a while since I had banh mi - like a real one, not an Americanized one -  and this definitely hits the spot!
Origami Peak After getting our food, we drove a few miles up to the famous Origami Peak, a popular spot for sightseeing and taking pretty pics. We set up a picnic on the grass where we can see the mountains and the infamous rocks shaped like origami animals. The weather’s a bit chilly today, but that doesn’t take any from the lovely view of the sky and scenery as well as the good food and company. I think if it was a bit warmer, we wouldn’t have this place to ourselves.
Now I can cross off visiting Origami Peak from my bucket list!
Woodland Creatures & Wishes I’ve never heard of this place but Isabelle and Arabella were hyped about it, so naturally I was too! The shop’s run by Arabella’s friend May, who’s super sweet and I absolutely love her whimsical and minimal aesthetic. She makes jewelry and enamel pins as well as art prints. She also has a vlog channel so I’m definitely gonna check that out later!
I love her art style, especially how she draws woodland creatures. So I had to get an art print, a bracelet full of animal charms, and a super cute hedgehog enamel pin!
Kuy Theav Parlor There was a Cambodian restaurant on the way so I knew we had to stop there at some point. From what I’ve heard, it’s known for its Phenom Penh noodles, also known as key theav. Since Isabelle, Digby, and Arabella never had kuy theav, I wanted them to try it, especially since this is authentically Cambodian. Also, kuy theav places aren’t as common as pho places.
Final verdict is two thumbs up from everyone! Definitely gonna take my mom here in the future!
Tarts and Hearts It’s getting late and we need a place to stop by. Luckily Nutmeg’s place is along the way and she offered to let us stay over in her cabin for the night. We managed to get there about an hour before closing time so we got to hang out at Tarts and Hearts and enjoy tea and pastries. Nutmeg’s been trying out some new recipes so we got to try those out too!
The next morning we had espresso and pastries for breakfast, went sightseeing at the mountains for a couple hours, and then took off on the road.
Trina’s Trinket Box A cute shop full of handmade trinkets and decor! Trina teaches online classes on things like seashell crown making, branding for small businesses, and glass bead making - and Arabella highly recommends these courses for anyone interested in any of those topics. Trina was also more than happy to show us some trinkets she’s been working on, which was fascinating!
Of course, I bought a butterfly trinket and a celestial ornament to decorate my camper. I did some redecorating a while ago so the new decor will go perfectly with it.
Cloud Cafe Spent about three hours at a cafe to pull out our computers and get some work done. I know it’s a vacation but Isabelle and Arabella need to touch bases with the others as once the trip’s over, they’re gonna be super busy. Also, there’s things I need to get done so future me won’t be in over her head when plans unexpectedly change. One of my goals this year is to procrastinate less so I’ve been trying out some new things to improve my workflow, get organized, and stop leaving things at the last minute.
In those two hours I managed to get a lot done - and I think the caramel latte and veggie quiches helped a lot. The general vibe of this place makes me feel productive and ready to go!
Tulip Park More sightseeing and taking pretty pics of the tulip garden, the fountain, and the creek. We also enjoyed tea, churros, and sesame balls from the vendor stands. Today happened to be ping pong day at the recreation square in the center of the park so we went there and played a few matches. Got lost along the way since the park is huge, but we discovered many cool stands and bought some stuff like bracelets, stationery, and scarves.
It’s been a long while since I last played ping pong and it was a lot of fun - especially after sitting in an RV for hours!
Preppy Pizzaria One last stop before our final destination! The restaurant was a bit crowded when we got there so we walked around the shopping area for about half an hour while waiting for seats. The wait was definitely worth it though as it’s one of those popular restaurants that lives up to the hype. The pizzas are fresh out of the oven and from where we sat, we could see the kitchen.
We also ordered a couple large pizzas to go so they can serve as a late night snack and breakfast.
Half an hour later we reached Wizpire around 9, which is pretty much right on schedule. I’m looking forward to a day of rest before the big seashell hunt the day after!

Birthday Sketch
Evan had never enjoyed his birthday, and frankly he didn’t see what the big deal was. The Earth was more than 4 billion years old, what was sixteen compared to that anyway? Dab was certainly giddy about it though, and anything that made Dab happy, made him happy.
There Dab was, just sitting there, upright next to him on the bed, their aloof little flop of hair, dangling down, looping under their eye, as they flicked their finger lazily across the iPad screen. It was a chilly morning in March, Dab’s favorite kind, and Evan was sure his friend had been up since sunrise, despite the two of them having stayed up till nearly 4:00 the previous night. Evan preferred sleeping in, giving his brain a healthy rest. He kept pretending to sleep; he didn’t want to bore his friend, but he didn’t want them knowing he had been watching them behind his squinted eyes.
As if reading his mind, Dab leaned forward, an inch from Evan’s ear. Evan’s heart started pounding, he tried to make his breathing sound more like sleep breathing. Was it working?
They got closer.
“I KNOW YOU’RE AWAKE BRO!!” Evan shot up, startled.
“Don’t do that, you dick” Evan shoved Dab, as they rolled back across the bed, laughing and clutching their sides. Evan reached for his glasses on the bedside table, Dab came more crisply into view, he could see now that their hair was wet. Had they already had time to take a shower? They were wearing their favorite black tank top with a llama printed on the front, but they had put on a pair of Evan’s pajama pants.
“Well happy birthday, how does it feel?”
“Insignificant,” Evan sighed, but he smiled “glad you’re here though,” he added, and wished he hadn’t. Don’t be weird, he thought to himself. Realizing he was blushing, he turned away quickly. “Oh man,” he chuckled awkwardly, “I gotta pee.” He jumped up and dashed to the adjacent bathroom. “How long have you been up?” Evan called through the open door.
“Didn’t sleep,” they called back “I was having too much fun last night.”
Evan’s stomach lurched, he realized he was just in his underwear, why had he done that? He never slept like that. He washed his hands, thoroughly, and then walked back into the room and started getting dressed.
“Going somewhere?” Dab inquired, as Evan pulled up his jeans.
“No just felt chilly you know?”
“You hungry?” “Ugh, Mom’ll be making pancakes.”
“Does she still not get you’re too old for that?”
“I know right, like I get it, our last name is Pancakes, get over it.” He threw on a band t-shirt and laid out on the bed next to Dab, instantly more comfortable. “I don’t think I’m gonna be hungry for pancakes anyway.”
“That reminds me, I have a little birthday present for you,” Dab sung “and after this you’ll definitely be hungry for pancakes.”
Evan wasn’t sure what that meant.
Dab reached over Evan, their body brushing against his, Evan’s hands instinctively twitched, but he kept them glued to his sides. Dab pulled their bag up from the floor and began rifling through it. “Man, I should really clean this more, where is it?” They started pulling things out, wads of crumpled up paper, pens, hair ties, and finally a little black plastic tube. Evan didn’t recognize it, what was in it?
“My dad bought it for me, he said not to tell your parents though, they’d be mad.”
“Is that…?
Dab popped open the tube and pulled out a funky smelling joint.
“Dab, that’s marijuana.” “Duhhhhh nerd, I thought we could try it together, I’ve never done it.”
“I’m not so sure this is a good idea.”
“Oh c’mon dude it’s fine, it’s legal, my parents smoke them all the time, dad says it’s no big deal.”
“It’s still illegal if you’re only sixteen.”
Dab leaned in, their nose practically touching Evan’s. “We’re all alone in your bedroom, no one’s gonna find out, and no one would care anyway.”
“O-okay, I mean yeah fine, whatever, it’s just pot, no big deal.”
“Are you sure? I don’t wanna make you feel pressured, if you don’t want to you don’t have to.”
“No I do, sorry I’m just nervous, I’m just gonna go open the window.”
“Good idea, hey do you have a lighter,” he chuckled “how did I not think about that?” “I have some matches, they’re in the drawer on the table by your side of the bed, I mean… that side of the bed.” He was blushing madly as he went to throw open the window, the morning had warmed up a little, the sun was out, shining through the window, it brought a warm breeze of fresh air with it into the room.
He went back and sat down next to Dab on the bed, Dab was holding out the joint. “Birthday boy first? Here I’ll light it for you.”
Evan gripped the herby little cigarette between his lips, as Dab got in close, their knees touching.
They lit the joint “ok inhale, careful it’s gonna burn.”
Evan felt the pungent smoke shoot down his throat. He coughed, violently, holding out the joint for Dab to take as he shook from coughing. He ran to the bathroom to grab some water, he already felt light headed, but maybe that was from the coughing. He drank the water down, and grabbed a second glass for Dab, who he could hear coughing from the bedroom.
“Thanks,” Dab drank it down. “Wanna go again? Don’t leave it all to me.”
Evan took a deep breath and grabbed for the joint again. This time it wasn’t as bad, it still burned his throat, but this time he noticed it tasted pleasantly herbal, almost like flowers. He passed it back to Dab. “Wow it really smells, wish we had some candles or something.”
“Ah hah! Hold on, I actually did think of that,” Dab coughed as they exhaled a huge amount of smoke. They handed the joint back to Evan, as they went back through their bag, and pulled out a handful of brightly colored little candles. “They’re reiki candles, they’ll go great with the weed, check it out, I got some for inspiration…” they held up two which were a rich daisy yellow, “creativity…” a deep indigo, “love, cause, why not?” Dab smiled as they held up a startling red, “and joy…” the last three were a whimsical magenta. They arranged them in a little circle on the end table, placing the single red love candle in the middle, and lit them one by one.
Evan had been taking his fair share of hits, while Dab prepared the candles, he could definitely feel something now, his face was hot, and he felt good, he started to giggle. “Wow, this is weird.”
“Gimme, I need to catch up,” Dab grabbed for the half smoked joint and started to suck it down, they coughed again, “oh wow are you feeling this? This is great! Is your face warm, mine is, wow, just wow, hahahah, I’m definitely feeling it.”
Evan lay down on the bed and spread out, like he was making a snow angel on the white comforter. Dab lay down across Evan’s chest. Evan didn’t feel nervous, just peaceful.
“You want the last little bit,” Dab looked up at him holding the shrunken joint.
Evan took it, pinching it between his fingers, and took the last hit. He held it until it went out and then placed it on the bedside table. His arms crept down towards Dab’s hair, as if they had a mind of their own, stringing the floppy hair through his fingers.
“Wow, your hair feels weird, haha I like it.” He was surprised at how at ease he felt, him and Dab hadn’t cuddled like this since they were kids.
“I wanna feel,” Dab began to stroke their own hair, fingers brushing against Evan’s.
Evan could feel himself growing hard, he immediately started to feel embarrassed, more so than ever. His body grew rigid, if Dab rolled back at all he would rub right against it! It was poking against his jeans uncomfortably, what if Dab noticed!? Now he was sweating, Dab was definitely going to notice, he didn’t want things to be weird. He realized he hasn’t been moving his fingers at all and now they were just resting against Dab’s. What was wrong with him!? Why was he being so weird!?
“Hahahaha, wait I wanna feel yours,” Dab suddenly said and lurched up, hands running through Evan’s hair. Evan jerked around, squirming away from Dab, and rolling on to his stomach to try to hide the erection. Dab crawled on top of him, and began to tickle his ribs. “Why are you acting so weird huh? Huh?” He poked into Evan’s sides and Evan squealed with laughter trying to crawl away. “Is somebody high? I think you’re high as a kite my friend!”
Evan was so hard it hurt, and couldn’t roll over, or surely Dab would see. He managed to crawl away, hiding himself under the comforter. He poked his head out. “I’m hiding,” he said wrapping the comforter around him like a cocoon.
“Is it comfy in there?” Dab asked smiling adorably.
“Yes, but you can’t come in, I’m being a cannapillar,” he laughed at his own joke, though it seemed lost on Dab. He kept laughing, he couldn’t stop. Why was that so funny? Being more at ease he could feel himself growing soft again.
“Well this is great and all, but this can’t be the only present I get you,” Dab mused. “What else do you want?
“I don’t know, I don’t really expect much, this is great, you don’t have to get me anything else.”
“But I want to,” Dab was sitting turned away now, stroking their long pale finger gently across the comforter. “Oh I know! I could draw you, I really wanna try drawing stoned, I’m having so many great ideas!”
“Haha, well how would you draw me?”
Dab whipped around, and a deep jokingly sexy voice they mumbled, “I could draw you like one of my French girls,” he laughed, squinting his eyes closed and puffing out his lips. “Nah, never mi…”
“Sure… I mean…”
“What?” Dab was either shocked… or excited, Evan couldn’t tell.
“No… haha, I was kidding, not really… I mean if you want to I wouldn’t mind… I mean… only if you want to.” If Evan’s cheeks weren’t pink from the weed, Dab certainly would have noticed him blushing, he had never been more nervous in his life.
“Haha what do you mean if I want to?” Evan was getting hard again, he really wished he wasn’t. “No, not like that… I mean… I dunno, you said you wanted to, I thought you were being serious, I wouldn’t mind… I mean, we’ve seen each other… like… naked and stuff, it’s cool, I mean whatever.” It all came out really fast, and jumbled, this was so awkward, he just wanted this moment to end.
“I mean I’ve never drawn anyone like that before,” Dab said slowly, pushing their hair out of their face, not making eye contact. “I mean artists do that kind of stuff right? I’ll probably have to do it in art school, that’s only a couple years away, it would be good to get practice now… you know? Makes sense to try it with my best friend.”
“Yeah, I guess that makes sense.”
Neither of them moved, for what felt like far too long. The tension was vibrant in the air between them.
“So should we do it?”
Dab smiled, “Sure, why don’t you lay out on the bed, I’ll pull up a chair.
Dab got up off the bed. Evan sat completely still. Petrified. He didn’t want to seem too eager. Did he even feel eager? He wasn’t sure. He took off his shirt and just sat there as Dab pulled out their sketchbook.
“Here move the comforter, try to look relaxed, are you cold?”
“No I’m fine,” he laid back, and put his arms up behind his head, his ribs poked out through his tan skin, his jeans sat just below his waist, hip bones poking seductively out.
If Dab wanted him to take off his pants, they made no indication, they just sat there, unmoving, looking very serious. Dab always looked serious when they sketched, the lighthearted, bubbly personality Evan was used to, always seemed to disappear, temporarily. Evan couldn’t understand how Dab seemed so at ease, his own heart was screaming against the walls of his chest, but then why should Dab feel nervous? He thought, they’re not the one with their clothes off.
“Sorry,” Evan said, unprompted “I just feel nervous.”
“Would it help if I got naked too, I don’t mind, could be fun.”
“Wait…” before Evan could stop them, Dab pulled off the llama tank top, and yanked off the pajama bottoms, it just flopped right out then, hanging down between their legs. Dab sat back down in the chair and it rested there between their creamy thighs. It had been a few years since Evan had seen Dab like this. It hadn’t had hair on it last time.
Evan hooked his fingers through the waistband of his jeans and his boxers, and pulled them both down, kicking them away from his ankles awkwardly, lying back, trying to angle his body to make his erection less obvious, it wasn’t working.
“It’s ok, it’s totally normal, that’s just what they do.” Dab smiled encouragingly. Evan knew he was talking about the obvious erection, and now felt uncomfortably embarrassed. Why wasn’t Dab hard? He couldn’t help but wonder, it made him feel even more embarrassed, like a big gay weirdo. He’d never told Dab anything before, about all that stuff, but surely they would know now.
“Try to look relaxed, I know it’s hard… I mean doing this, not your…” Dab stopped, “haha, sorry.”
“It’s ok, I’ll just die of embarrassment,” Evan whined trying to cover himself up with his hand and wrist, and using the other hand to block his face. “I swear I’m not turned on,” he grumbled through his palm “this just… this just happens sometimes when I’m nervous, I don’t know why it won’t go away, sorry.” It perked up underneath his hand, pulsing slightly, as if trying to grow even further. Crap! It was responding to his touch, it felt good. He didn’t know where to put his hands, how to position his body, god what had he gotten himself into?
“You don’t have to apologize,” Dab said softly. “Just relax, I won’t draw it like that if you don’t want me to, just try to relax, it’ll go away if you calm down.
“Sorry, I’m trying.”
“We don’t have to do this if you’re uncomfortable, I just thought it’d be fun.”
Evan took a deep breath. “No, it’s ok, I’m fine, just gonna relax, I’ve got nothing to hide from you.” He uncovered himself, and positioned one hand splayed out against his chest, the other dug into the pillow behind his head.
Dab started sketching, and Evan tried to think of something else. It was difficult, the high was still lingering, and making his head pound. He tried to list off the periodic table in order in his head. Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, Beryllium, um… Boron, then Carbon, Nitrogen… crap, what came next?
Dab’s eyes were stone, they shifted slowly, without expression, from Evan’s splayed out nakedness, to the page in front of him.
Evan tried tried to think of the English verbs he’d been memorizing for his next exam, but all that played across his head was the simlish for woohoo.
“Just try to relax,” Dab breathed. Dab’s face was completely still, it betrayed no thoughts. Evan didn’t understand. Dab was so perceptive. How could they, using only those deep, somber eyes, just cut right through him?
Evan closed his eyes and tried to make his mind go blank, the high helped a little. He could feel himself drifting, time fell away, it was just him and Dab, alone in his room. If there was no one left in the world, why did it matter what Dab saw? Or what the two of them did?
“Finished,” Dab sighed, as if the life had been drained out of them, as if they had exhausted their very physical being, rendering this moment on the page. They got up and walked over to the bed, carrying the paper. Now, they were hard, huge, it jutted forward, pointing right at Evan.
Evan propped himself up as Dab came closer, his arm outstretched, holding out the drawing. “Happy birthday Evan,” Dab grinned. Evan angled himself toward Dab, welcoming, their cocks seemed to reach for each other, he could feel his eagerness, pulsing between him.
That was then the door burst open, and Eliza, strode into the room. “Does my little birthday pancake want some breakfast in bed!?”
