4. What detail in strike, dear mistress are you really proud of?

oh jeez. there are a fair amount in there tbh, since it was me trying to cram all of my headcanons about JC pertinent to foowd that couldn't come across naturally via NHS POV into one piece of PWP, but i liked getting to dwell a bit on JC's whole concept of marriage and how miserable he imagines it must be if it's not with someone he's already actively in love with… If he did put effort into looking for candidates, he can’t imagine anyone angling their daughters at him for any reason besides his name and position. Not with his reputation. He’s not compelled by the prospect of being politely—or impolitely—tolerated under his own fucking roof. He remembers his parents. How difficult it is to share a life. he's not even really wrong because i can't imagine that marrying some random 20 year old at this point in time would be emotionally fulfilling for him lol. he's framing it in this scene as being about his Perverse Sexual Desires but that's not really the issue… tfw you got promoted to authority figure as a teen but you're a baby brother to the core :( and you just want someone to genuinely like you for you, not just respect and defer to you out of social obligation :(

the reasons i love nhs (and foowd nhs specifically) are manifold so i shant elaborate on them here besides to say that for me personally, the characters i feel the most affection for are the ones who have a lot of problems that they didn't create but then who go on to create a bunch more problems for themselves and others, and you understand why they did so and they probably think they had no choice but it's like hmmmmmmmmm girl but did you really. did you really,

i like to pity my favs. just a bit. but also i want them to be happy whether or not they deserve it. you know how it is

46. Do you prefer writing on your phone or on a computer (or something else)? Do you think where you write affects the way you write?

i hate writing on my phone because it's so un-ergonomic and i have an on-and-off repetitive stress injury so i try to minimize the amount of typing i do on there BUT i do find that i often make different connections or get different ideas about how to write things when i'm on a phone, just because you're physically looking at the words in a different way, they end up arranged on the screen differently, etc… the "shape" changes… you can see much less words at a time vs. opening up a page on a computer screen… so i often do nitpicky little line edits on my phone, especially if i'm just reading a draft/wip file over idly on the train or before falling asleep etc (both of which i do a lot.)

my desktop computer in my room is where i do either my best or my worst writing, because i either get super in the zone or i'm sitting there totally distracted by everything else i can do on my computer/in my bedroom and have no sense of the external accountability that i'd have in a public place, or even out at the desk in the living room where my roommates can pass back and forth (i'm pretty good at writing deranged stuff in a small font stonefacedly which is the only way this is able to work)

Okay so my favorite published authors are Jandy Nelson (I’ll Give You The Sun is a book I reread constantly. It’s my comfort book. I swear if my soul was anywhere besides my body, there’s a piece of it trapped in that book.), Fredrick Backman (specifically And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer), Brigid Kemmerer (literally all of the books she’s published with Bloomsbury I’ve read and adored), and Neal Schusterman (Specifically the Arc of a Scythe Trilogy). They all write in ways that affect me deeply and they mean a lot to me. I don’t necessarily try to emulate them, but they definitely are the authors I consult (by reading and rereading their works) to get ideas and to learn how to write.

Fanfic authors. I think I’ve made it pretty damn clear on here that I am hopelessly in love with @imaginethathaikyuu (I’m still too scared to tag her I’m sorry) and her writing. She means the whole world to me in every way. Her writing always hits me in a MAGICAL way. Especially her newer pieces. Works of hers that hit hard for me are: (please note this list is not comprehensive. These are just the FIRST ONES that came to mind. All her work is objectively great.)

-Tsukishima accidentally teases his s/o’s insecurity - this one holds my heart.

-Heated argument with Tsukishima - this is the angst I adore. Honestly, this might be one of my TOP TOP favorites, because it feels so real.

-Morning sex with Tsukishima -just the line “theyre your tits!” That’s all. Brings me serotonin beyond words. And it feels so genuine and lovely. Again... she makes the world so real. Also in my TOP TOP favs. (Is my Tsukki love showing too much?)

- Kinktober 2019 - ALL .... but the ones I revisit the most are Tsukishima’s, Oikawa’s, Futakuchi’s, Yaku’s, Iwa’s, Yamaguchi’s, and Matsukawa’s.

-Kinktober 2020 - please GOD read Kuroo’s, Mattsun’s, Iwa’s, Suna’s, and Atsumu’s. They’re all immaculate but those in PARTICULAR were MASTERPIECES.

-Having an angsty fight - particularly Kuroo’s GETS TO ME. Like... damn. Makes me... melt. Idek why. It’s just, again, how real she makes it feel. From the atmosphere and setting to the way the characters behave. A lot of times in “argument angst” (is that a term?) the arguments feel so shallow and stupid. And I’m like “on my moodiest days I wouldn’t react like that” or “Kuroo WOULD NEVER”. But these feel so real. Ughhhh.

-You give Kenma a gift mid-stream

-Kenma gets turned on during a stream - can you tell I love the way she writes streamer Kenma 😌 also this is my fav nsfw-esque Kenma piece solely because it feels accurate to his character in a beautiful way despite me headcanoning that he’s ace.

-Oikawa’s s/o wakes up without him there

-Iwaizumi getting.... caught.... by Makki and Mattsun... with you -Give Iwa More Love 2020

-Tendo teasing his s/o by ... taking care of himself - One of the first Em pieces I ever read. I don’t think it was THE first. But it was definitely the first one I read like... RIGHT AFTER she posted it.

-Tendo comforting s/o who’s parents yell - hits very close to home for me, and I just wanted him to come whisk me away the first time I read this

EDIT: On GOD Meg could murder me and I’d say thanks. Please read this beautiful time stamp shit it makes me HAPPY.

UPDATE: And Meg is now responsible for the most canon Tsukki piece I’ve ever read.

There’s a cute SMAU called Sunshine by @pudding-head-kenma and idk how she does it. It’s so good. I could never tell a story this complex, THIS WELL, using only text messages and tweets and such. She also does mini headcanons that are REALLY cute.

Anything and everything by @haik-choo is gold. Literal gold. The way she writes Tsukishima is IMMACULATE. Toxic headcanons, mischaracterizations all of its gold. And she’s a beautiful shitposter. She drops shit that makes me CACKLE at the most random times. All of it is a big yes for me.

UPDATE: this is gold.

Of course I’ve read In Another Life and OF COURSE I sobbed. Took me AN HOUR to read because I kept having to take breaks to just.... sob. VERY MUCH A HEAVY DUTY ANGST. Not for the weak of heart. BokuAka. This is probably the oldest piece I’ve read that still HITS for me.

Ike doesn’t get scared easily, but if there’s on this he’s wary of it’s his future.

It’s Veronica’s wedding, it hasn’t happened yet but you’ll see why it’s his favourite.

I would say the graduation party, but I don’t think Ike remembers it.

At this moment, no, but once he does it’s gonna be very obvious.

5: Describe your character’s dream date.

Super cheesy, like a picnic in the park and then after that going on a stroll and talking about everything. Ike would also be really awkward because it’s something he’s not used to.

Pansexual

7: How does your character feel about their name?

He was named after a fire emblem character, so I think he likes it.

8: Does your character hate anyone? Why?

Not really. He kind of hates the girl at the graduation, but he doesn’t hold that grudge for long.

Ike’s not super religious (the whole family isn’t), but he likes to have faith sometimes.

Definitely not, Ike’s too nice to do that.

Ike’s best friend is his distant cousin Brent, and they met because Arielle and Carissa (Brent’s mom) are best friends.

Loves them, but no one will ride them with him.

Rum and coke, which is what he would literally die for if he drank way too much.

mm these were some of my favs growing up and almost all are book series so I guess that’s cheating but hah! ah well. looking at this list I feel like it explains a lot1. harry potter series 2. lotr3. a series of unfortunate events4. carrie5. the vampire chronicles

I push it down and ignore it and pretend it doesn’t exist bc if I focused on it I would never ever write anything ever again. I show drafts to people I know will say nice things to me. I read reviews on other things I’ve written. I drink some wine and toss all care out the window

I post pretty much all the fic I write and the stuff that isn’t posted isn’t because it’s never been finished, not because I don’t want people to see it so I guess my really old fic I wrote when I was like 11-12? that’s the only stuff I took off the internet and deleted so it can’t be found anymore. it was all harry potter self insert chat script style fic. it was terrible. 20. Any advice for young writers/advice you wish someone would have given you early on?

there’s no point trying to anticipate what people will like and trying to write things based on that. a fic you really enjoyed writing, that you put a lot of effort into, might get little to no attention compared to something you wrote quickly as a joke and that’s just the way it is sometimes so might as well write what you enjoy writing and not worry too much about the kudos/comments/hits/etc.

24. Do you remember the moment you decided to become a writer/author?

when I was student of the week in kindergarten my “about me” poster said I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. I do not think 6 year old zike meant she wanted to be a fanfic writer but she also told people she wanted to be a power ranger, a transformer, and a princess when she grew up so it’s possible that’s exactly what she meant

25. What’s your worldbuilding process like?

I don’t know??? I’m usually just like, for example eurovision au, listening to something and then I’m like “oh man eurovision AND yuri on ice” and I just start writing before really fleshing the world out. then I hit a question like “why the hell is yuuri participating in eurovision” and I come up with something to answer the question so the backstory/world gets a little more detailed because of that?

or I get lost in pompeii for hours on end talking about “what if viktor moved to new jersey” and the conversation just gets increasingly more detailed and ridiculous

either way I guess it’s less a specific, thought out process and more just go with the flow and things get built through the process of just aimlessly writing or talking about an idea

30. Do you like to read books similar to your project while you’re drafting or do you stick to non-fiction/un-similar works?

I read fanfiction while I’m writing stuff all the time and it doesn’t generally keep me from being able to write (except in the literal sense that I cannot read and write at the exact same time). however, if I’m writing something like my yoi musician au I don’t read other yoi musician aus until I’m finished with it. mostly just because I totally realise there are going to be similarities when everyone is writing based off a similar idea but I don’t want to accidentally “steal” something from somebody else because I read their fic while I was working on mine

35. Post the last sentence you wrote

“Fuck school supplies,” Theia says as way of response. “Let's go ride bikes around the store and eat all the Pringles.”

I haven’t written anything yet today so this is the last sentence of the thing I wrote for writing group yesterday. my prompt was like “you and a coworker have to go shopping for school supplies but there’s some sort of obstacle outside (zombies, insects, etc.)

My Entire Life Story (If You Presume My Life Started When I Started Shipping Viktuuri. Which it Did)

As anyone who is familiar with me and my blog knows, I am first and foremost a fan (the NUMBER ONE fan) of Katsuki Yuuri, his absolutely magical skating routines, and the way he looks sexy with his hair pushed back.

Compared to some others (who have usernames they don't deserve), I saw the light relatively late in the game but oh boy did I see it brighter than anyone else!

40. Do you look up to any of your writer buddies?

Almost all of you are taller than me so yes

Most of my writer buddies also started out as people whose fic I enjoyed reading and fangirling over so :P

42. How many drafts do you usually write before you feel satisfied?

I guess I don’t always feel 100% satisfied with the things I write but I’m not much of a draft person. I usually hammer something out, get someone to look it over for typos and nonsense parts, maybe add a couple extra paragraphs here and there, and then call it a day

45. First or third person?

third for sure. I can’t really think of a time when I wrote a story in first person? second person I’ve done quite a bit but not ever first as far as I remember

48. Do you prefer to write skimpy drafts and flesh them out later, or write too much and cut it back?

I prefer to write the exact right amount of thing that needs to be written and then post it and call it a day. I guess I always like adding things instead of taking them away though

50. Do you share your rough drafts or do you wait until everything is all polished?

I share my google docs with people sometimes to get opinions if I’m stuck on something or if I just want to see what people think before I post something but I don’t always share things before I post them

54. Favorite first line/opening you’ve written?

Nothing is actually readily coming to mind but here, have the opening from my old homestuck/keshastuck fic:

55. How do you manage your time/make time for writing? (do you set aside time to write every day or do you only write when you have a lot of free time?)

I usually just write whenever I am fucking around on the computer and I feel like writing or when I have a break at work and I wanna work on something. I don’t really make an effort to put aside specific times but I usually end up with free time to write if I feel like it
