Flour, cold butter in little cubes, light brown sugar, eggs, a pinch of salt, a whole bunch of “goudreinet" apples fresh from the market, a little bit of ground cinnamon, sugar and raisins. These were the ingredients for the Dutch apple pies that were currently baking in the bakery oven. The lovely scent of the fresh cakes spread across the streets of Paris, hopefully luring new customers into the bakery.
A few streets away from the bakery, an unusual oval-shaped hole opened up and spat out a red-haired man wearing a long black tailcoat. Groaning, he got up on his feet and brushed his coat and trousers clean. When he walked out to the main street, his nose started to pick up the scent that coated the roads, and he immediately begins to follow it to the source.
I looked up when the bell above the door rang, forging a smile to welcome the new customer politely. It was an unusual man with red hair and interesting clothes, and he looked like a kid in a candy store that could start drooling at any second.
"Good afternoon, sir. How may I help you?" I asked, my voice happier than I actually felt inside.
"I'll take all of them," the man answered as he pointed at the seven freshly baked apple pies on the counter.
"E-Excuse me?! All of them?" I exclaimed, blinking in confusion. Surely he didn't say that he wants to buy all of the seven apple pies.
"All," he said firmly.
"O-Okay, certainly." I started packing all the pies into boxes while keeping an eye on the strange man. He pulled out a heavy coin purse and dropped the whole thing on the counter.
"Tomorrow, the same amount, please." he demanded.
"What? The same amount?" He wants seven more pies? That would be insane. I started to panic just thinking about it.
"Is that not possible then?" he asked, cocking an eyebrow.
"I eh... I would have to get back into town to get more ingredients and maybe come in earlier to start baking so they will all be done in time and also work on the birthday cake I promised Madame Pompadour and of course the usual stuff I have to make every day..." I mumbled, trying to figure out if I could even do this, "Hmmm, okay, yes, I can do it." A big smile appeared on the man's face.
"Glad to hear! Can you cut the last one so I can eat it right away, please?" he requested.
"S-Sure, right away, sir." I cut one of the pies into even pieces and stuck the box on top of the other ones. "Here you go. Let me work out your change," I said with another forced smile. I loved working at the bakery, but sometimes the customers can have such strange requests. I walked over to the register, but before I could even open it to get the man his change, he had already picked up the boxes and walked out of the door. "SIR! YOUR CHANGE!" I tried yelling after him. I left the counter and ran towards the door, but he was nowhere to be seen. Sighing loudly, I returned to the kitchen and started baking more baguettes.
The next morning I had woken up earlier than I usually do to get to the bakery on time to finish all the baking I had planned. The lemon pies I decided on making for the mystery customer were now in the oven, and I spend the rest of the day resuming my day to day tasks in the bakery. Just when I finished packing the cooled lemon pies, I heard the bell above the door and politely smiled as I recognised the mystery customer.
"Welcome back, sir. I've just finished your pies."
"You are a gem!" he exclaimed, smiling brightly. He pulled out his coin purse and emptied the whole thing again while looking at me. "Can you do cherry pies too?" My eyes grew wide, and I waved my hands in front of me when he threw down way too much money again.
"S-Sir, you paid enough yesterday to cover these ones as well. I will not accept any more payment. And to answer your question: Yes, I have a nice recipe for cherry pies, but I'd rather make them when..." I had to interrupt my sentence to turn around and cough loudly in my elbow. To me, this was nothing new, I've been feeling weak for a few days. It was just yet another bad streak my illness brings about. I just hated how it sometimes showed when I was around customers. I turned back to the mystery man with an apologetic look. "Pardon me. As I said, I would rather make them when the cherries are in season. That's the key to a good cherry pie."
"Madame, pardon my familiarity, but have you seen a doctor for your cough? That didn't sound healthy at all."
"Yes, I have." It wasn't the first time someone asked me that. I tried to smile to reassure him, my eyes failing to hide the sadness. "No need to worry." The man frowned when he picked up his boxes from the counter.
"There is a new doctor in town, he lives in a small cabin in the nearby forest. He takes upon rather bad looking cases, and his quota in curing those cases is very good. Yet he only accepts special payment. If you ever think of giving him a chance to examine you and your sickness, bring pastries with you," he explained, before "forgetting" his change again and turning to leave the shop, "I hope you get better soon."
"Thank you for your concern, sir, but I'm afraid my illness is incurable. I've seen many doctors…" I replied with my default explanation for these kinds of situations. Don't get me wrong, the idea of a new doctor with such a good track record sounded promising, and I wished I could believe it. It's just that I have gone through this so many times before. I've seen many doctors in different countries, but all of them came to the same conclusion: My HIV infection can't be cured, and I just have to wait until it takes me.
"He is a specialist. I promise it won't be to your disadvantage," he said. A specialist on HIV? No, the mystery man couldn't possibly know about her disease. Yet, he seemed overly confident that this doctor would be able to help her.
"Can… Can you tell me more? Is he the one you buy all these pies for?" I asked, my curiosity taking over. He turned back to me and smiled a beautiful, yet slightly mischievous smile. A slight blush crept up my cheeks as I noticed the handsome features on the strange man's face.
"Maybe," he said, "I am sure he can help you, even if others have already given up on you." I sighed, and a defeated look appeared on my face. That's right, others have given up, and I have no reason to doubt them.
"I wish I could believe you, but I've been told all my life that my illness can't be cur-" I had to turn around and cough again. That one cough turned into a spree of coughs and really started to hurt my ribs.
"Why not give it a last shot? What could go wrong? You're going to die eventually…" the stranger muttered. I grabbed my waist and tried to straighten myself again. The man had a point. There is probably nothing that could go wrong, and it can't get much worse than this. I was in so much pain.
"I guess... I could try… one last time…" I said between coughs, "Where did you say I could find him?"
"In the woods," he said before pausing to think for a moment. He suddenly turned around and moved his hands around. I heard a locking sound near the door, followed by the sign in the window flipping to 'fermée' as if a wind whirled inside the shop. My jaw dropped to the floor, and I rubbed my eyes, not believing a single thing I was seeing. "We better go right away, I can't help you here. Close your eyes," he said as he walked back towards me.
"Wow wow wow!" I exclaimed before coughing again, "Owww! Hey! What did you just do? How could you lock that door? How did you flip that sign? Wait, am I hallucinating again? And what do you mean you can't help me here?" In my confusion, I started rambling every single thing that came to mind. Instead of answering my questions, he just rolled his eyes at me and sighed.
"Fine. Not here." He stated, before waving his hand and picking me right up. He started walking towards a mysterious oval-shaped hole that looked an awful lot like portals I have read about in books.
"Sir! What the hell is that? Hey, what are you doing? Put me down!" I practically yelled, not knowing what the hell was happening around me. I tried to wiggle my way out of his strong arms, but of course, I was way too weak. He took some more steps forward until he eventually reached the portal and stepped into it.

Pidgance royalty AU
Happy Plance day! Rewriting an old AU that was previously just a drabble
Katie became the successor to the crown when the king, her Father, and the previous successor, her brother Prince Matthew went missing after a visit into town.
It is widely speculated that their majesties were kidnapped by a group of bandits known as the Galra
Katie, unbeknownst to her already grieving Mother takes matters into her own hands and runs away from the castle in commoners clothes after cutting her long hair off and taking on the undercover name Of Pidge Gunderson, an orphan from the next town over hoping to make a new start.
Lance McClain is one of the castle guards and when he hears Princess Katie is missing he feels his stomach jump into his throat
Hunk and Keith, two of Lance’s fellow guards as well as himself go out into town to see if they can find any leads as to where the kingdoms beloved princess has gone
Katie, now going as Pidge spots the guards and quickly makes a B line for the nearest shop, her green cape secured over her caramel colored hair.
Lance quickly notices this shift behavior and chases after Katie, yelling for her to stop
Katie panics thinking if he got a good enough look at her he would immediately know, she turns and quickly ducks under him before bolting into alley ways moving as fast as her little legs can carry her.
Lance orders Keith and Hunk to stay put and chases after Katie only to find the what he thought to be shifty possible trouble maker had fled, he cussed himself out mentally and returns back to the other guards.
Panting Katie slides down the boxes she was hiding behind and starts her new undercover work as a commoner
Luckily enough for Katie, her Mother had been a commoner so she knew how to do things for herself unlike other royals she had met, the only other royal she knew that didn’t have people waiting on them hand and foot was her best friend Princess Allura from the kingdom of Altea, or well soon to Queen Allura married to soon to be King, King Takashi.
A week had passed and Katie found that in her abandoned little shack she was low on food, mumbling to herself she got out the coins she had brought with her and only took out a few as to not look suspicious being a commoner with a half years pay in her hand.
Lance was enjoying his day off in a cafe when he seen the same green cape from a week ago walk in and go up to the counter asking for one baguette and some croissants before sliding the lady a few coins.
Lance silently and quickly made his way behind the caped figure
Katie knows he is there but decides to have a little fun with him and starts running
Lance is just like “Oh no you don’t!” and runs after her
It takes Katie everything not to laugh as they keep running, once on the outskirts of town she stops
Lance stops a few feet away and puts a hand on his sword in case the stranger charges him
Katie turns to face him putting her hood down “Why are you chasing me?”
Lance, oblivious boy, doesn’t quite recognize Katie right away “Because you’re acting suspicious.”
Katie can’t help it and laughs “Buying bread is suspicious? I mean I kinda gotta eat.”
Lance glares “Okay sure, but why are you running?”
“I can’t go back to the castle yet.”
“Why would-” and realization “ARE YOU OUT OF-”
Katie slams her hand on Lance’s mouth “Wow you’re louder than I remember.”
Lance fights a blush as he pushes the princess’s hand off of his mouth “We’re going back. Now”
Katie steps back from him “I told you I can’t, I am not going back until I find Matt and our Father.”
Lance tsked as he pinched the bridge of his nose, he knew Katie was stubborn from what he heard from her old personal guard Shiro AKA Takashi, but damn was she being difficult.
Lance went to argue only to notice Katie was now gone with no sign of where she went “Oh come on!”
A month passes and Lance had managed to locate Katie, however she still refused to go back until her family was found, Lance agrees not to report his findings as long as she lets him act as her personal knight/companion for this mission. Katie agreed knowing it was the only way to keep her mission going
“So you’re found their hideout?” Lance asked while eating a day old pastry.
Katie nodded “Lotor, the leaders son is a bit careless and attracts attention to himself via a womanizer, obvious Daddy issues.”.
Lance choked back a laugh “Alright, well what is stopping us from just barging in and getting your family back?”
“How did you ever become a guard?” Katie half joked “We have to wait for an opening, I found a good galra bandit by the name of Thace and his friend Ulaz, they told me that every Friday at midnight the group goes to Haggar’s bar to drink leaving only a few men behind to guard prisoners.’
“Wow you’re really on top of this…”
“I can’t just sit by and do nothing.”
Lance looked to the window “My family lives in a Kingdom a good three days from here, I supply for them ever since my Father died in the war.”
“Lance I-”
“It’s okay Princess, i’ve come to terms with my fate, but you…I’ve never met someone so strong.” he gave a small laugh “A princess who commands not only her staff but the whole world, not for her own wants, but for the good of them all.”
Katie blushed a bit “You should go back to the castle, you need to rest up before midnight so you’re ready to fight.”
“What about you, are you actually gonna rest?”
Katie looked to the basically pile of cloth and padding she had slept on for over a month now “The best I can.”
Lance speak without thinking “Come rest at my place, my bed is comfier.”.
“Pervert!” Katie screeches blushing
Lance waves his hands frantically “No I meant you can take my bed and i’ll sleep on the couch.”
Katie gave him a look that said you better not try anything before agreeing as that way they were together and ready to fight without the meeting point.
Katie settled into Lance’s small cottage while he finished his last fer hours at the castle
When he came home around eight pm he found Katie was asleep on the couch with a book of old fairy tales in her hand
Lance can’t help but smile as he picks the sleeping girl up and moved her to his bed, but before he can will himself to go to the couch, he falls asleep in the chair by the bed.
Katie wakes up to see the sun has set then looks over to see Lance slipping out of the small wooden chair fully asleep and drooling
She giggled and gets her handkerchief from her bag before wiping the corner of his mouth
Lance smiled in his sleep and mumbles her name “Katie…”
Katie nearly jumps out of her skin “Y-Yeah?”
“I love you.”
Katie’s face goes bright red, but as she goes to ask what he said he snores signalling to Katie that he is asleep, he just sleep confessed to her, oh boy this was gonna be an interesting conversation later.
“Lance!” Katie said flicking his forehead,
“Ow!” Lance howled as he slipped fully out of the chair and onto the floor with aloud thud, a groan following
“Sorry!” You weren’t waking up to my calls.”
He rubbed his forehead as he got up “You better hope that doesn’t leave a mark.” he pouted.
Katie giggled a bit “Come on the clock chimed twelve times a few minutes ago which means our window is now open.”
Lance nodded and followed
Sneaking into the bass was pretty easy as nobody was really guarding the front seeing as the Galra truly thought they were hidden, Katie hurried to a back room that Ulaz had told her prisoners were kept in and opened it to find her brother and father chained up to a wall
“Katie!” Matt called out
Lance hurried in behind her “I have a bad feeling, there is no way they would just leave this place completely unguarded, even Thace said there would be a few guards.”
Suddenly there was a gun click behind them “No, just me.”
Lance and Katie turned to see Lotor smirking at them with a gun pointed right at Katie’s temple
“I should’ve just kidnapped you from the start princess.” he smirked “You’re the one who holds the true power.”
Katie arched an eyebrow as she glared back at him “Oh?”
Lotor continued “With kingy wingy and glasses son here that makes you the heir, and the heir will need a prince, and that prince is gonna be me,”
Katie felt her stomach flip “Hell no! Let my family go!”
Lotor shook his head “Such a disobedient little princess aren’t you?” he laughed as he put his hand on the trigger “The kingdom doesn’t need a queen like you.”
Trigger pulled and blood splatters
“LANCE!”
Lotor lays on the ground now beheaded by Lance’s quick movement with his sword, and Lance on the ground grasping his shoulder.
“I’m…I’m fine.” he winced with a smile “It just grazed me.”
Katie quickly unbuttoned Lance’s shirt and pulled it down to check the wound, luckily from her reading of medical books back in the castle’s library she knew what to do and aided him before finding the key on Lotor and setting her family free
The next day Katie and her family were back safe and sound, the Queen though upset at Katie for putting herself in danger was just thankful her family was safe
Lance laid in the castle infirmary and had just woken up as Katie walked in
“Hey you.” Katie smiled sitting down some water and food “How is the shoulder?”
“Just find thanks to you Princess.” Lance smiled taking the water and savored a few sips
“I told you that you can just call me Katie.”
“I’d rather call you mine, but Katie works.”
“I mean you already confessed to me so.”
“What!?”
“You talk in your sleep.”
Lance blushed horribly and stared down at his water
Katie kissed his cheek “Love you too, oh and don’t forget you’re my new personal knight once your shoulder fully heals.” she aid quickly hurrying out of the room
Lance touched his free hand to his cheek smiling, personal knight or not he knew he was goign to protect Katie for the rest of their lives.

But That’s All One
Here’s a little piece of fluff. Had an image in my mind, and I can’t draw, so I had to work it into a little story, instead. Ah well.
++
“Uh oh. Here it comes.”
Shepard followed Kaidan’s gaze upwards just in time for a single fat raindrop to hit him square in the eye.
“I told you,” Kaidan chuckled, bumping Shepard’s shoulder. “You don’t gamble with rain in this city, Shepard.”
John gave his husband a grizzled frown, trying to wink the raindrop out of his eye lashes. The sidewalk was becoming mottled, and the sound of the rain on high-rise windows was beginning to drown out the hum of the traffic further downtown.
“Shoot, sorry.” Shepard awkwardly tried to twist the top of his grocery satchel to protect the two fresh baguettes they’d bought because ‘that’s just what you’re supposed to buy when you go to the grocery store, right?’
“’Let’s just walk,’” Kaidan smirked, mimicking Shepard’s voice. “’It won’t rain for a while yet. We don’t need umbrellas. Just a short walk!’”
“Alright, I get it.”
Shepard had finally managed to sleep past 5 that morning, and when he woke up, he couldn’t believe the clock readout saying 8am: there was only a thin, gray light sneaking in around the curtains from outside. He stood at the window, looking out at the overcast sky and the fog-muffled city, the warmth of Kaidan at his back and his sleepy husband’s chin on his shoulder.
It was at that moment he decided they needed to walk to the store for their groceries.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been around real weather,” Shepard grumbled, fussing to turn up Kaidan’s collar against the rain. Kaidan batted his hand away with a smile and smoothed the collar back down. “Always in the Mako, or a hardsuit. Or on the Citadel. Or dead.” He took Kaidan’s elbow and hustled him in the direction of home.
“I know, I know.” Kaidan shook himself free and took Shepard’s hand in his instead. “I don’t mind walking in the rain. Heh, gotten plenty of practice.”
“Used to hate rain like this, but now…”
But now he didn’t live on the street. Whether or not it was raining didn’t mean he would be out of a job that night. Now rain meant better crop yield, meant the atmospheric processors were still working, mean that life was still going on.
Now he lived in the city, in a high-rise apartment. With Kaidan Alenko. Now he watched the rain with arms around him, smiling as much at his own reflection in the glass as the rolling clouds beyond it.
“But now you’ve got someone to help you out of your wet clothes.” Kaidan brought Shepard’s hand to his lips, laid a kiss as light as a drop of rain on the knuckles. “And plenty of dry clothes to change into. We’ll be fine.”
“No,” Shepard shook his head, looked back down the blocks towards the store they’d left. “I can fix this. Hang on.”
“Shepard,” Kaidan rolled his eyes. “I’m fine. Stand down, Commander.”
“I can fix this,” Shepard repeated, handing off his grocery bag to Kaidan. “I’ll be right back!”
“Shep—“
The air crackled, and there was a thunderclap where Shepard had been standing, a streak of a blue biotic charge leaping up the street towards the shop.
After two or three charges, Shepard’s shockwave rattled the windows of the corner store when he appeared, startling the shopkeeper away from the window with a scream.
“Hi,” Shepard burst through the door, looking back once to see the drizzle beginning to slick the street into a mirror shine. “Me again. I need to buy an umbrella. Do you have umbrellas?”
Speechless, the shopkeeper pointed to a display of umbrellas by the door.
“Perfect.” Shepard grabbed a large, red umbrella before thinking twice and replacing it in favor of a bright blue version.
“Tw-twenty two credits.”
Damn.
Kaidan had the credit chit.
“Look,” Shepard drummed his fingers on the counter. “I… my husband and I were just in here and… see, he has the credit chit. I just need this… is there a way I could…”
The shopkeeper, still wide-eyed, blinked twice. Then raised his arm, omni-tool already lit up.
“T-take a picture with me, Commander Shepard?”
It was pouring when Shepard ran out of the shop, closed umbrella tucked in tight to his body to keep it dry.
The problem with charging through a downpour was that you were running to meet the rain before it was ready, and every single drop slapped you in the face for the interruption.
When Shepard had woken up on a Cerberus slab with a new implant in his brain, learning to fling his whole body into the enemy with his biotics, he had never imagined he’d be racing through empty streets in the rain to deliver his husband an umbrella. They had revived him to be the ‘leader humanity needed’, but the new implant was a dead giveaway that he was supposed to be a weapon.
Now he paid for things with a selfie and only used his biotics when his husband’s hair-do was at risk. Shepard loved the rain.
Kaidan was not where Shepard left him, and so he charged ahead towards home, rain pelting him more like hail in his biotic slipstream. Kaidan had almost reach their building when Shepard popped out of his charge at his side.
His husband was glowing blue, enveloped in his own biotic barrier, dry as a bone and smug as a son-of-a-bitch.
Shepard stood with his mouth agape for a moment, rain streaming down his face and making his jeans cling to his legs, let Kaidan laugh pityingly.
“Shepard, so help me, if you catch a cold trying to bring me an umbrella I’m going to keep you in bed for a week no matter how much you get sick of ‘sitting around doing nothing’, and it’ll serve you right!” Kaidan ran one glowing hand over Shepard’s face, wiping away the raindrops away with a gentleness as if they’d been tears.
“Your… barrier keeps you dry?”
“It stops bullets,” Kaidan shrugged.
“You’ll get a headache.”
“Then you better not get a cold, so you can take care of me.”
“I… brought you this…” Shepard held out the umbrella, pathetically. Kaidan laughed, handed Shepard the satchels and opened the umbrella over the both of them. He pulled Shepard in close.
“Let’s get you dry, let’s get us some coffee, and we’ll watch the rain for a little while.”

11 Questions tag I was tagged by @comeatmebroface Rules- Answer 11 questions, write 11 questions, and then tag 11 people to answer them! My questions~ 1. If your best friend was a colour, what colour would they be? - There are a few people I consider my "best friends" mostly because I lived in a lot of different places, but I'm gonna go with purple. It's one of my favorite colors, it's fabulous af, and it's the only color I like all shades of because it can be cute and soft but also bold and elegant (diverse just like my friends) 2. What is your favourite combination of foods that aren’t normally combined? -The only combination I can think of is when I put butter and salt on baguette (it's really good) Mostly because my parents never buy salted butter (plus it doesn't taste as good) and because baguette by itself is a little sad... 3. If you could learn as my musical instrument, what would it be? - the piano. I love almost all genres of music and piano fits most of them. 4. Name three songs; one that you feel represents you when you were younger, one that reflects your current life, and one that reflects who you hope to become. Boy that's a really hard one! - for younger me: Knives and Pens (Black Veil Brides) -for current me: Cool Kids (Echosmith) -who I hope to become: Where is the Love (Black Eyed Peas) 5. Are you more of a night person or a morning person and why? Definitely more of a night person. I have NEVER woken up feeling like I had enough sleep, and night is the only time where everything feels at least somewhat peaceful and calm (also I feel like everything is prettier and more magical at night and I love seeing the moon) 6. What is your favourite planet? (yes Pluto counts, I am still in denial) Hesitating between Pluto and Neptune (Pisces ftw) but I'll go with Pluto because OHANA MEANS FAMILY AND FAMILY MEANS NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND. Also it's named after the Roman god of the Underworld which is cool af. 7. What is the first book you read that affected you on an emotional level? Ugghh I've read so many books I don't even know....I'll go with Nous les Dieux (We the Gods) by Bernard Werber (highly recommended, but if you want to read it start with Les Thanatonautes, the prequel. it affected me emotionally and you get pretty attached to the characters, which include historical people, but also mentally, it really makes you wonder about the afterlife and the likes... 8. Name one historical figure who you would like to have tea with. Edgar Allan Poe. I really want to know about his inspiration, how he saw the world, and plus that way I can tell him how much I love his works. 9. Tell me your favourite random fact. -sea otters hold hands when they sleep so they don't drift apart. 10. What is the one item of clothing that always makes you feel better? It's not really clothing, but a choker...for some reason I feel more calm when I wear one, especially if it has a pendant I can hold/play with when I'm nervous 11. What do you think happens after death? (Despite what certain snarky RS teachers say, “I don’t know” is a perfectly valid response.) I don't know, but I have a feeling our souls and consciousness keep existing, the body just doesn't imprison it anymore. Where we go, what we see, that's something I'll discover eventually My questions to y'all (btw yes I'm hella curious XD But if any questions make you uncomfortable, just skip them) 1. If you could be a supernatural being, what would you be and why? (Literally anything fictional and/or from any culture works, you can be a house elf if you want) 2. What is your favorite season? Why? 3. If you could have dinner with a fictional character (deceased or alive) who would you choose? 4.What culture(s) would you like to learn more about? 5. Tell me something you like about yourself (can be as many as you want) 6. What class(es) do you wish existed? 7. Do you have a character that you relate to? If so, why? (You don't have to answer if you don't want to) 8. Tell me a random subject/topic that fascinates you (once again you can list multiple ones) 9. What do you do when you feel anxious and/or need to relax? 10. Tell me about one time someone raised your faith in humanity 11. What are some books/movies that just changed your whole life/outlook? Tagging: @cinnamonfreak @ray-of-glory @teddywufkh @demigod-from-hogwarts20 @psychpunk45 @squirrelsacrifices @kingdomhearts-after-hours @inkdeathrose @whitejenna @foxywolfmeerkat13 @verysassywitch You know how it goes, just do it if you want to :)
