totally unrelated to everything going on in your dash but this is something I have pondered for a while . Who do you think is the muse of WITW? I have seen theories regarding TS and ZM. I don't think it's either of them since harry wasn't okay with either leaving him. His other songs are mostly about how much he wants Taylor back. I know they attended a birthday party together but the rest of the song seems have peaceful resolution somethinghaylor didn't have . Plus I don't know if he would call her 'kid' in a song.
For zayn it makes sense since it is a goodbye song. But there also wasn't a peaceful resolution. Harry was upset about zayn leaving.
So who do you think it's about?
everything is good, don't worry <3
i thought for sure i read that walking in the wind was about his grandmother, did i dream that? this is how i personally absorbed it somehow. i don't read it as a romantic love song at all, or even wistful for a friend (and agreed, at that point i really don't think he was considering z in that way). it feels like it's about someone who's passed - if you're lost, just look for me, you'll find me in the region of the summer stars. (that particular line apparently came from julian's grandma). it's very much about keeping their spirit with you to me.
harry said: "I like "Walking In The Wind" because I'm a big Paul Simon fan, and I think the inspiration behind it was Graceland. And just kind of the way in which the verse is so conversational and informal. It's like spoken-word...I love that album. And when I listen to it, I love hearing the influence from that in this song. And it's cool to be able to — obviously not copy — but it's cool to be able to have influences that you've loved for so long. I really like this song." so that gives us a reference sonically.
it really strikes me most poignantly as being about someone dear that you've lost, i always thought, "we'll be alright, child, just close your eyes and see, i'll be by your side any time you're needing me," was being said TO him, he's the child in need of that comfort, just like the opening, "do you believe i'll never be too far?" and it's this really poignant reminiscence of how someone you love stays with you, tinged with sadness, but not overcome by it. they've had a good long life (the fact that we can sit right here and say goodbye means we've already won), and you believe you'll meet them again someday, and until then their presence is always with you (in places that we've never been, for reasons we don't understand, walking in the wind). goodbye are bittersweet, but it's not the end, i'll see your face again.

I would be remiss if I didn’t have a post to acknowledge that today is Paul Simon’s 80th birthday (born October 13, 1941), so here he is performing Graceland. ________________________ Graceland Songwriter: Paul Simon
The Mississippi Delta was shining Like a National guitar I am following the river Down the highway Through the cradle of the civil war
I'm going to Graceland Graceland In Memphis Tennessee I'm going to Graceland Poorboys and Pilgrims with families And we are going to Graceland My traveling companion is nine years old He is the child of my first marriage But I've reason to believe We both will be received In Graceland
She comes back to tell me she's gone As if I didn't know that As if I didn't know my own bed As if I'd never noticed The way she brushed her hair from her forehead And she said losing love Is like a window in your heart Everybody sees you're blown apart Everybody sees the wind blow
I'm going to Graceland Memphis Tennessee I'm going to Graceland Poorboys and Pilgrims with families And we are going to Graceland
And my traveling companions Are ghosts and empty sockets I'm looking at ghosts and empties But I've reason to believe We all will be received In Graceland
There is a girl in New York City Who calls herself the human trampoline And sometimes when I'm falling, flying Or tumbling in turmoil I say Oh, so this is what she means She means we're bouncing into Graceland And I see losing love Is like a window in your heart Everybody sees you're blown apart Everybody feels the wind blow
In Graceland, in Graceland I'm going to Graceland For reasons I cannot explain There's some part of me wants to see Graceland And I may be obliged to defend Every love, every ending Or maybe there's no obligations now Maybe I've a reason to believe We all will be received In Graceland
