I LIKED INNES TOO JUST BASED OFF DESIGN. also enjoy the homoerotic relationship he has goin with ephraim! if you like asugi i highly recommend checkin out the person he's based on - gaius from fire emblem awakening <3 (sorry awakening is my favourite game of all time ever every time i can shameless plug it i will)

With the CYL6 midterm results out, I'll give my quick thoughts on it (at least as quick as I can be).

You know, this just might be the first time since... I wanna say the first CYL where the reactions to the midterm results have been mostly positive. Normally there's at least one character that people are upset is in the top spot, but this year it's pretty chill. And that is pretty much exactly how I feel. Yeah, F!Byleth is just whatever, but this seems to finally be Chrom's year, Seliph is a nice surprise, and adult Tiki- can we please keep her in the top 2? She has not gotten an alt since 2017, and good f*cking God we need to remind IS she exists!

Onto the other results (since I feel it's best to appreciate all the ranked spots, not just the top 2), Alfonse being in the top 10 makes me very happy. He's been steadily rising in the ranks over the years, really emphasizing how he's Heroes' best new character and has been gaining his own fanbase. If there's any OC I'm expecting to get an Ascended alt, it's him.

Speaking of OC's, other than Alfonse and Oni-chan McF*ckme, none of the other Heroes OC's are in the top 20, which is... odd. Normally, they tend to place somewhere in the top 20 to entice IS to release them soon, especially since CYL always starts a little after the newest book begins, so it's shocking that Ash, Elm, and Letizia aren't here. Actually, I'm more shocked that Fjorm and Laegjarn aren't in the top 20. Considering we just got done with a 6 part Tempest Trial focused on them, I was expecting them to be here on pure hype. Though I guess fans aren't rushing for them to get brave alts since they just introduced Ascended alts, or maybe the fanbase is as sick on them as I am (but that's for another day).

Onto a different source of joy, 3 TMS characters are in the top 20. I am really hoping that this will incentivize IS to release the remaining characters in their own banner. People forget that CYL isn't just about picking who gets a brave alt this year, it's about seeing who are the most requested characters that aren't currently in the game. It's a known cycle that characters that score high on CYL are more likely to be added to the game. Why else do you think we got a sh*t ton of Three Houses banners last year? Because those characters scored high on the last 2 CYL's and IS was just giving what fans asked for.

Anyway, I think that's about it. As I said, this is probably the most positive I've ever seen the fandom react to a CYL midterm and if the top results don't change by the end of this, I doubt there will be any complaints.

Just please keep Chrom in the top spots, I don't think I can take another year of the memes.

Book 5 Trailer Thoughts

Yes, I know that the first chapter is already out, I have seen screenshots, but I haven't played it myself yet and I really want to talk about my thoughts on the trailer and what will likely be done with book 5 since this sh*t kept me up last night!

So let's talk about them.

Now, I was curious to see how Heroes would do dwarfs. A steampunk aesthetic where they drive mecha horses to fight was not what I expected. Not that I have any problems with it. This stupidly amazing over the top nonsense is what I love in my fantasy. And I am SO looking forward to seeing how they use this for resplendent heroes.

Based on the trailer and from the screenshots of the first chapter I saw, it seems the world of the Nidavellir was ravaged by a devastating battle, and they likely turned to utilize science with magic in hopes of strengthening their masses and avoiding another situation like this. But considering Fafnir's situation, it seems like some of their creations are starting to have some detrimental effect on their psyche. So I'm guessing that while it will start as a simple "stop the villain" plot, once it's revealed he's not in his right mind, it'll shift to a "find a way to save him" plot. I'm also guessing that the valkyrie we see have some connection to what's happening, likely they aided the dvergar in their initial plans to merge science and magic, so maybe at some point, the heroes will likely try to contact them in goes of seeking advice on what to do.

Speaking of our new characters, let's speculate on them. I can't say much about the Valkyrie, but I am looking forward to seeing them, especially her cause

GODDAMN!!!

Fafnir seems like he'll be an interesting, if not enjoyable, villain. They'd have to actively try to make him worse than Freyja. Otr I'm interested in learning about, especially why he's so loyal to Fafnir despite him obviously being off his rocks. I'm guessing it has something to do with being an orphan (please, for the love of God, don't let it be like book 4, Please!). And Reginn is really cute and I'm interested in seeing where her story goes.

Can I also talk about how hilarious it is how sidelined Sharena is?! She doesn't appear at all in the trailer, and it's still up to speculation if this

is supposed to be her or a new character who looks like her. If this is supposed to be her than 1: why the complete change in her core design when this hasn't happened before? And 2: why is she so small compared to everything else and not in the main focus of the shot? I've seen some people say that if this is Sharena, it's likely that she will betray the order of heroes after being given a piece of dvergar technology that corrupts her mind similar to Fafnir. So our secondary main hero will most likely be relegated to a rescue mission.

Yaaaay...

This doesn't really bother me much, though. I've lost any hope that they will do something interesting with Sharena that will make her relevant to the story since book 3. I want to stay optimistic and hope they will prove me wrong, but after getting my hopes up and having them dash twice consecutively, I'm not giving them another chance. They've already wasted their third strike, they're not getting another one.

Though I can't say I'm upset that Alfonse is getting all the screen time. He's consistently Heroes best character and being able to have more of him in this book is always a plus. Also

Damn sweetie, you look good in this poster.

And to quickly mention the rest of the stuff in the feh channel, I like the changes to certain mechanics, especially to pity breaks, I'm real happy Knoll is free since he was one of my favorites from Sacred Stones, and I have no idea who the silhouettes are for the winter units cause I can't guess for sh*t.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go play that chapter.

some headcanons first:

Hríd fell for Zacharias way before Zacharias did

sort of like this:

hríd: greetings I am hríd crown prince of nifl and this is zacharias, my future prince-consortzacharias: *pause* *blinks* wHAT

Hríd ‘yes I went off to fight surtr one on one what of it’ and ‘hello new allies did you know one of you is a traitor :D’ is an impulse decision maker you can’t change my mind

I headcanon Hríd as fairly forgetful of details and appointments and what have you, meanwhile canon Zacharias seems to know every obscure piece of information in the nine worlds, so:

He always leaving notes for Hríd all over the place. Most of them are important reminders, but a lot of them are just fluffy.

Hríd often wonders why Zacharias doesn’t just go ahead and do the whole ‘letter writing’ thing but he’s got Emotional Issues related to His Past

eventually he works through it, though

speaking of askr Hríd refers to Zach as an Askran most of the time and it drives Zacharias up the wall

“I’m not Askran.” “But you were raised in Askr?” “Well yes, but-” “Ah I see! Emblian-Askran” “nyoU CAN’T BE BOTH” “Well then, what are you??” “AHHHHHHHG”

I have a lot of ‘Hríd likes poking Zach with a metaphorical stick’ headcanons, as you may be able to tell.

It’s a good way for Hríd to see if Zacharias is too lost in his own head and his own guilt and his past.

Meanwhile, Hríd’s pretty stable, even after everything he’s been through, which Zacharias appreciates. It’s nice to have someone to lean on, who you don’t have to worry about hurting or protecting constantly, vis a vis pretty much everyone else in his life

However, Hríd is one reckless sonofa and if I have to stitch you back together one more time I swear

As names go, I figure Hríd get somewhat caught up between ‘I owe him the formality and respect due a foreign prince’ versus ‘this guy rolled up while I was half-dead and said call me Zacharias’

He often ends up solemnly going through the entire Prince Zacharias Bruno of the Emblian Empire while Zacharias tries very very hard to be supportive and not crack a smile

I’m going to talk my way right through the book III Feh Channel at this rate so MOVING ON

Dynamics!

AGH I’m running out of time oh god anyway

Hríd takes his Niflian ‘you saved my life, now I owe you’ responsibility very seriously. It causes friction at times because Zach is fairly uncomfortable with “this niflian life-debt business” and also a little nervous re:‘…do you only like me because you feel you have to? Meanwhile, canon Hríd currently appears to take Niflian traditions seriously, and is dedicated to Niflian sovereignty and, one might assume, culture. There’s not really a big chance of him dropping the you saved me issue. So that’s a point of contention between the two.

I think he also wouldn’t let Zach get away with feeling sorry for himself, while also being good at acknowledging everything that happened. I think he’s good at helping zach figure out what is ‘yes, I did that’ vs ‘no, that wasnt my fault’ vs ‘either way, its over. lets move forward’.

Now while Hríd is, so to speak, the healer of the two I think Zach is the Preventer of Bad Things. The ‘Hríd what have you got there’ ‘a KnIFE’ ‘NO’ of the two. Hríd runs off to do things like ‘fight an immortal demigod’, and ‘join the OoH even though he’s…possibly the reigning monarch of an independent nation?’. Zacharias has his own flaws in how he handles problems, but I think he’s a great counterpoint to most of Hríd’s ‘I’m going to do this, but I’m going to say it in a very Sedate and Stately way so it seems legit’ ideas. So it would go more like:

Hríd: im going to go fight surtr by myselfZacharias: wh- no. no thats a terrible idea dont do thatHríd: oh. well when you put it that way

Alternatively, both of their tendencies to solve problems in the most dramatic and unfortunate way possible could collide, leading to an Even Worse decision as in:

Hríd: im going to go fight surtr by myselfZacharias: THAT’S A TERRIBLE IDEAZacharias: If I come with you, we can close all the gates to muspell after we get there that way no one can follow usHríd: YES BRILLIANT

I also think Hríd can be…not the most diplomatic person at times. See, again: “hello alfonse have I mentioned Zacharias betrayed you? no? well thats because im just kidding it could be anybody. including me! :D :D :D” Meanwhile, Zacharias son of the last Emblian emperor flew undercover in the heart of the Askran kingdom for years and years and years. He may not be great at keeping curse things under wraps but when it comes to everything else? Also, he’s a god-tier researcher/information gatherer. Which I think would balance out Hríd’s more blunt and straightforward tendencies very well. especially when it comes time to rule Nifl in a post-zenith-globalization world.

ANYWAY

I don’t have time to keep on but uh

as yall maybe can tell I have too many thoughts about these too. I am also about to miss the Feh Channel, so!

Book VI (And Awakening Banner) Thoughts

Well, since I did this for Book V, may as well do it for Book VI. And I'm not really covering Summoner Duel. It looks cool, but I've never been big into the PVP aspect of Heroes, or gaming in general. So let's just focus on the important stuff.

Starting off with my first impressions of the new characters:

I really hope this was just for a joke and to showcase her clumsiness, because I don't need another main female lead who's in love with the summoner just because.

And yeah, I was hoping we would get a male lead as much as you, but I'm willing to be optimistic about Ash. She's mega cute and the trailer helped to establish her personality right away. And with how great they did with Reginn, I think they'll do well with her.

Also

Da F*ck is this transformation?!

I thought the dream goats were weird, but having the retainer of a God who's a beast unit, yet still carries a staff (seriously, why do you have that?), that transforms into a cow who shoots lasers from her tail? What the f*ck do these designers smoke to come up with this?!

Ok... I can't be the only one who gets major NB vibes from Elm. That hair and facial structure. The V-neck exposing all of the collarbone. The body shape. The one thigh being exposed for no reason. I legit couldn't tell that this was a man until they straight up said it. Like... Damn. Talk about saying "f*ck it" to gender conformity.

For real though, he looks like he's going to be the sassiest twink ever. And I'm probably gonna end up loving him. I can't help myself. These kinds of characters just click for me.

Ma'am!!!

Joking aside, I am wondering what Letizia's connection to Veronica is since they already said they're "like sisters." My current theory is that she is part of the royal family, but doesn't have as much influence as Veronica. And it seems like she's enacting the will of Embla and forcing Veronica to turn against the Askr crew and stop being friends with them. We did learn a while back that she and Zacharias are bound to this God to become a mindless destructive, so it seems like it's finally coming into play.

It's pretty surprising to see only 3 new characters teased for this book. I'm assuming they don't want to spoil everything out of the gate, but I am hoping they keep the new cast small. The fewer newcomers are introduced, the less bloated the cast will feel. Though I am expecting an appearance from Askr and/or Embla. Oh, and Zacharias has to show up. You can't put this much focus on Veronica and not have her brother play a role in the story. And have Xander as well, he's basically her brother at this point.

On the note of Veronica,

I really am happy to see her again. I've begun to like her more over the past 2 years, and it's nice to see her story getting a possible resolution. I just want her to be happy. Like, if this book ends with her and Alfonse becoming besties, that will be enough for me. Just... My God, this child deserves it.

So yeah, pretty excited to see where this goes. And given that Book V was a MASSIVE improvement over Book IV, we're definitely in the clear.

And yeah, obligatory mention of how little Sharena matters at this for once more not appearing in the trailer or poster. And this time, there isn't even a similar-looking character to keep me guessing. Like, wow. They really know just how pointless she is!

Onto the Awakening Banner!

And... yeah, let's just get through this first one.

Oh boy... Him. I have several problems.

One- why that pronunciation? Did anyone before today ever call him Pry-am? No! Of course, you didn't! Every person I've ever seen say his name has always said Pre-am. It rolls off the tongue better and sounds significantly less stupid.

Two- of the Awakening characters not yet in Heroes *cough*Laurent*cough*, why him? Has Priam ever been a highly requested character? I've never seen him be commonly brought up when it came to characters people want to summon, and while I'm sure he's on some people's wish list, it's never been to the extent of having a blog dedicated to him.

And third- Wow, the amount of straight washing with this character! Radiant Hero? Descendant of Ike? Wielding the Ragnell? Like, way to say "Ike's not gay" without directly saying "Ike's not gay." The fact that people are already dreading what his forging bond events will be is a pretty big sign of how unenthusiastic most fans are for this.

Damn, I nearly forgot how hot Basilio is. And I don't even mind the name pronunciation, cause it still works and makes him feel even grander.

I don't know why it took me until now to realize how great Flavia's design is. It's a perfect mix of powerful, elegant, and tasteful. Man, Awakening really had a lot of great designs we've been sleeping on.

Case in point! I knew we were bound to get Yen'fay once Say'ri was added, and I'm glad with how he looks. Another really great design I haven't appreciated until now.

Oh, and... She's here.

I'm just hoping with her addition, Laurent will come soon.

Give me my son, IS!

Overall, I'd say this banner is... Good. I'm not gonna be pulling hardcore for any of them (especially Priam), but they're welcome additions.

And that's that’s my thoughts on this trailer and banner. Not anywhere near as much of a mindf*ck as Book V's trailer, but I'm looking forward to what will happen.
