I’m not sure how Filip Ingebrigtsen avoided being eliminated. The leg contact is arguably accidental. The punch isn’t. you need a certain arrogance to win at that level, but you cannot believe you can do things and getting away with things that are outside the rules.

Filip was disqualified in Rio and again in the indoors. You have to be able to control that aggression and anger – it’s fine if you channel it into racing. Nobody should be above the rules.

Men’s 1500m semi-finals

So first up, we’ve got the men’s 1500m semi-finals.

There are two semi-finals taking place, with the first five in each qualifying for the final and then the next two fastest.

In semi-final numero uno, we’ve got three-time major championship silver medallist Timothy Cheruiyot in lane two, while former European champion Filip Ingebrigtsen (lane three) is also involved, having escaped disqualification for punching Ethiopia’s Teddese Lemi (who is also in this semi-final) in the back during Thursday’s heats.

British champion Neil Gourley (lane seven) is also in this one.

There is a duty of care because of the spotlight athletes live their life under. I think it’s really important for federations to help athletes understand that sport is what you do – it is not who you are.

It can be lonely – you have friends and family around you and they’re typically not in the same space as you. It can be difficult to go to your teammate – someone who is handling [the pressure] well.

Sport is about being able to have that sense of perspective. Sometimes that can take time. You have to be able to make that distinction – this is sport and this is real life.

Like Tom says, it’s about being able to be OK in your own skin, and being happy. Without a doubt after what Tom has been through, he’s become a much stronger person.

Tom Bosworth speaking to BBC TV:“For the race [in 2017] to go as badly as it did, I hadn’t prepared for that at all.

“It left scars on me that I didn’t realise for a long time were there. That was when I decided the only way out of this was to take my own life.

“I thought I was doing everybody a favour.

“After a couple of attempts, Harry (Tom’s fiance) said ‘enough is enough, we need to get you some help’.

“Without Harry getting me to make that phone call to British Athletics to get some help, I don’t know if I’d be sat here now.”

As for tonight’s race, a much happier Bosworth said: “I’ve prepared well and I’ve got nothing to be stressed about. There’s nothing more I can do right now and that’s why I’m confident and happy.”
