i. born in cork, ireland. father never stuck around. already had a second family by the time jules was six, a third when jules was nineteen. not that she cared too greatly. dad was an absolute loser with several speeding convictions and anger management issues so no big loss. the financial loss was certainly felt, however. mum worked three jobs to keep food on the table. the two were inseparable and despite her mother’s misgivings, they still are to this day.  maybe thats why jules takes ‘independent living’ a little too far nowadays.

ii. in primary school, jules was quickly labelled as a ‘problem child’.  her mother thought she was doing what was best for jules by not pushing for a diagnosis in autism, let’s just say it kinda fucked jules up even more. with a high IQ and a low EQ, most people assumed jules had some sort of savant syndrome. top 3% in the country! aren’t you proud? i have no friends, though. oh you’re just mature for your age. focusing on better things! the pressure mounted, her relationships non-existent and jules found herself closed off from the world, nose forever stuck in a revision book. 

iii. these problems follow her throughout her educational career. eventually she hit a burnout in her first year of sixth form college after trying to juggle too many subjects at once. that brainy maths whizz of a girl ended up going from an A+ to an E in less than a year. every subject failed in the most spectacular of manners. the gifted child suddenly wasn’t so gifted anymore, and it only fueled her resentment towards her teachers who pushed her to take on so much in the first place. there was, however, one shining light. law. the only subject she passed in her first year. the one subject she rebuilt her entire course to fit around when she applied to retake her college classes. 

iv. jules was destined to get a degree. after all, her mother never managed to get one, so jules had to go to university. freshers was... an Event, to say the least. the discovery of alcohol, marijuana and roommates who she had to force herself to interact with certainly morphed jules into quite the temporary wild child. it didn’t last long though. jules learnt the hard way that it doesn’t matter how hard you change yourself for your ‘friends’, you’ll never be good enough for them. by the start of her second year, jules was living on her own in a crappy one bedroom apartment with two cats. needless to say, this suited her much better. (still lights up on occasion though, oops)

v. half way through university, offered a placement in a new york firm as part of an exchange program. change is difficult for jules, but her ambition overcame her nerves. she had no attachments keeping her locked in at home, and with her mothers (unquestioned) blessing, jules hopped on to a plane with two furry passengers in hand.

vi. it’s difficult to find a job in new york when you’re foreign, young, female and don’t have any connections. and then there’s the issue that jules never wanted to be an actual solicitor, after all. no no no, that would require public speaking, keeping emotions in check, not swearing at the prosecution. for the most part jules worked as an intern to a small public defender firm. ( and then i need to talk to oaklynn mun before i fill the rest of this bc we need to work out details of this firm she eventually joins )

juliette’s ideal is j u s t i c e. pretty obvious for the lawyer, but needs to be said. this ideal was present at a very young age, and coincided with her more... violent tendencies. juliette might be lawful, but she’s not exactly lawful good. for example, is there a kid who keeps pushing you off the slide so they can have multiple turns? don’t worry, jules will be waiting at the bottom to punch them the next time they come down. kid keeps hitting you during class? can’t hit you if jules bites off his arm. really, jules would’ve made a damn good vigilante, but sadly this isn’t that kind of story. 

jules comes off as quite stoic, a little bit cold and cynical. in her worst moments, she’s aggressive and like i said, can be pretty violent. since academia has been hard drilled into her since she was a bubby, she can tend to come of patronising and a little holier-than-thou.

get on her good side though and you find someone extremely logical and focused, and the most reliable person you can meet. generous and giving, jules is the type willing to give up her left leg if it meant someone could walk again. manage to make her smile and you’ll probably fall in love. whilst she keeps them hidden, she has a variety of special interests (in fact, she’s actually quite the nerd). unlock them all and you get a prize! (its her heart, you are now her best friend)).

anyways i love how gon is increasingly approaching situations with his Plucky Shounen Protag Attitude in full swing, and he pretty much gets shot down every time. BUT his general determination to see killua bc killuas his FRIEND and hes gonna RESCUE HIM is still a good and pure motivating force 

like here, when hes climbing over the wall and hes like whatever i dont wanna have to deal w/being tested thats bullshit, i wanna see killua, my intentions are pure, im gonna try my luck with the dog....i was like ok yeah he’ll get over and like tame or defeat the dog and the guard will be suitably impressed bc nobodys ever done That before, and then gon will continue on to get killua 

but NOPE instead the guard calls him down and explains that gon Will Die if he tries that, and then the guard will die too for letting that happen. and gon is like oh shit my actions have consequences for people other than me, wow. 

and THEN the guard takes them in to meet the dog. and hot DAMN that is a scary creature. not even really a dog tbh. they did an excellent job making the dog Legit Scary and not just like, big and flashy looking....those eyes are so soulless, and the proportions are freaky 

and the guard says exactly what i was thinking - that gon would use his Country Boy Woodland Creature Skills to workaround the dog....but then the subversion - this creature is NOTHING like the woodland critters gon is probably used to dealing with. theres no way gon stood a chance here. the guard just saved him from a really unfortunate death 

i love all the Super Heavy Stuff in the servant house that seems so inconvenient vbhjdkfasjfld. also forgot to mention earlier but the guard guy being Absolutely Ripped was wild and kinda funny 

training montage! gon continues to be so cute. and i love so much how leorio and kurapika are like no, you rest, we’ll take care of this. good parents!!!!

that was my only mx experience until .. after i got into day6 (after being more open to kpop) my friend (a different one, boxy) she started talking about mx bc she got sucked into their wormhole .. and she would talk about mister yoo kihyun for ages which was cute (ok honestly when i first looked up pics of ki i was like whys . he her bias bssjjsjsjsks now i understand) she’d link me videos such as the daeng daeng daeng cover and kihyuns hyeya to show us how good kihyuns vocals were (which i completely ignored for awhile bc of mister minhyukku…. kihyun im so sorry i did u dirty for the longest time) and then she linked us to the funny videos i had to bold that bc . monsta x are the best comedians alive… kings of comedy . she gave us this video to watch and i lost my mind watching it beyhjsjs

we watched 2 whole more eps but we’re abt to vacay so i better recap this biz now before i forget

ok so we finished the zoldyck arc and uhhhh gotta say we werent expecting like any of that to happen lol 

ok ill back up so we start w/killuas mom (i dont think we ever heard her name) confronting gon & co....and canary (i lov her) is not dead which i assumed but thank goodness. 

zoldyck mom was totally using nen. also she is off her rocker gotta say. tho that visor is super cool, albeit confusing - is it connected to a bunch of security cameras or something? how does she see all that shit? 

granpa is wild. his tunic thing that says ‘one kill a day’ or w/e is kinda hilarious, it reminds me of the ‘apple a day keeps the dr away’ saying...a murder a day keeps the....idk away????

i love that killua makes it abundantly clear that he couldve like escaped at any time lol. also tho why didnt he just escape....baby boy just leave

like....it was all over the place for me...first of all the ambiance was wack, the room lighting was weird and im p sure killuas seat was an electric chair??? and the dad was in a coffin thing..???? like....interesting aesthetic choices all over the place here 

also i see now where killua got his hair and also his catboy tendencies. the zoldyck catboy genes seem to trace back to zoldyck dad, who has kinda scary cat eyes 

also im guessing that the dad is the blood zoldyck and the mom is the one who married in. they sure seem to put a lot of emphasis on like, family legacy or w/e, but the two parents certainty go abt it in different ways 

the whole convo b/w killua and his dad was wild, it totally didnt go where i was expecting it to. his dad was weirdly chill while also being super intense? 

killua happily telling stories abt gon was so sweet....baby boy baby 

and his dad telling him ‘never betray your friends’ was rlly interesting...i wonder what his reasons were for saying that 

cause then he tells killua he can leave, and killua does, but then dad zoldyck tells mom zoldyck (i rlly need to find out their names) that he thinks killua will come back on his own time....inch resting 

i wonder if dad zoldyck made killua promise that bc he was trying to set killua up for failure - as in, he tells killua to never betray his friends, thinking that killua inevitably will & be distraught abt it, and then turn back to the zoldyck family when this happens. idk

also its interesting to me that zoldyck dad wants killua to lead the family someday. like, illumi is right there, hes the oldest and clearly dedicated to being an evil assassin, and he seems p good at it...i wonder why killua is the favorite....the grandpa (i think) did say that killua is Special(tm) which...yes he is a special baby boy i love him. i wanna see more zoldyck family flashbacks/interactions so we can see what led them to this point

ok back to the plot so like its so wild to me how smoothly everything went hvubsjduhfbjsh like....killuas dad was rlly like ok u can leave and killua just went to the butler house and then canary woke up and was like ok gon & crew lets go to the butler house to see killua, fuck the rules, (and she didnt even get killed for ‘disobedience’ or w/e, or more likely - in most big shounen, she wouldve been attacked by the other evil butlers and gon wouldve had to fight them)

i think maybe illumi or someone will like, spy on killua sometimes to keep track of him. or theyll track him by other means
