↳ 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵 : 960 (without lyrics)
↳ 𝘴𝘺𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘴𝘪𝘴 : you and Calum’s sexual life has its ups and downs
↳ 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘦 : I don’t know how I feel about this but here ya go ! enjoy ! :)
↳ 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘦 : nasa
I'm talkin' to ya
See you standing over there with your body
Feeling like I wanna rock with your body
And we don't gotta think 'bout nothin' ('Bout nothin')
I'm comin' at ya
'Cause I know you got a bad reputation
Doesn't matter, 'cause you give me temptation
And we don't gotta think 'bout nothin' ('Bout nothin')
Calum was passionate romantically in and outside the bedroom. He knew that he had a certain ripple effect on me and at certain points, he could use that to his advantage. He knew his way round a women’s heart and body and he’s proud to say the least. Calum in the beginning of our relationship was great. The determination and love Calum provided to make it work was motivating.
It was difficult at times as him being a public figure, people wanna know everything and then use that against you. He knew that he didn’t want that to drive distance between us both away and so he kept us both away from the spotlight for the first couple months of the relationship. This gave us privacy to get to know each other and enjoy our intimate moments together.
These kind of nights were amazing and memorable especially the aftermath of the actions from the night before. We both loved the intensity of the moment and other times, we basked in the slow and gentle touches and taking our time together. I liked it either way to be honest because I loved Calum and he made it different but comfortable everytime.
I've been here all night
I've been here all day
And boy, got me walkin' side to side
I didn’t want to seem Braggy when I talked or was asked about my sexual life and people have a certain perception of Calum, especially in the bedroom. Yes, it was great but the bruises and red marks that stayed on my body as almost trophies of the night and some hurt touching but others looking painful yet they’re was no pain endured touching it. Usually, either Calum would wake up with the dark colouring over his body or I showed them to him.
This morning, I had woken up from a previous night of getting frisky with Calum. He had awaken early as he usually let me sleep in more especially if the partaken actions were rougher. He had made breakfast which was the perfect timing as he kept his attention on me walk towards the breakfast bar. I slightly limped as the pain was evident, now and then. He grew a more concerned face and asked “you ok, baby?”.
I nod as my eyes stay on the floor, keeping my main focus sitting on the chair with minimal pain. I tried a weird seating position as Calum had a confused face and silently giggled as I let out a laugh. When sitting, I felt the on and off pain and continued with whatever was coming my way. I readjusted myself several times during the conversation and every so often, Calum would ask if I’m ok.
Been tryna hide it
Baby what's it gonna hurt if they don't know?
Makin' everybody think that we solo
Just as long as you know you got me (You got me)
And boy I got ya
'Cause tonight I'm making deals with the devil
And I know it's gonna get me in trouble
Just as long as you know you got me
Calum knew he was rough and so he usually suggested me taking a long bubble bath with him beside the tub talking, almost like a date. Sometimes the days after the wrangled bodies was lazyily spent hours watching binge watch shows and sometimes, it would be us going through a normal day. Today, I had planned to visit my friends house where it was gonna be a get together.
Shortly after my calming bath and fixing together a outfit, I headed out the door with Calum driving me to my friends house. Calum knew it would’ve been nice to drive me and pick me up and so off I was to the house, walking towards the door. Shortly, I entered the house and chatted to my other 3 friends, while we swirled our drinks in our glasses. The topic of conversation arose “so y/n, how are you and Calum?”.
I smile and nod while answering “yeah, we’re good”. She then smirks and asks further “yeah, but what about, you know, the sex?”. I get a little uncomfortable with it but I go On to respond “yeah, it’s great”. The all look at each other collectively and one of them start “y/n, remember when we told you not to go with him since he was a bad boy? That must’ve worked in your favour”. I silently laugh and look up at them again.
These friends keep talkin' way too much
Say I should give you up
Can't hear them no, 'cause
The continue talking about their warning signs made to me about Calum but they seemed surprised and almost a little jealous that their plan didn’t work out. Fair enough but the conversation continued talking about the other girls relationships and their detailed sex life, and then moved onto other subjects and so I decided to leave. I called Calum prior to leaving, with him being outside in timing for me to exit the house.
The door opens and Calum sits there and asks “how was it?” And I respond while just getting into the passenger side “yeah, it was good”. He smiles and starts the journey home. Shortly after a drive, we arrive back to the house and make ourselves comfortable. The night grows later as the time suggests that your eyes were drooping and quick 5 minutes of sleep every so often in front of the tv. Calum then said “baby, let’s get you to bed”.
Calum carried me to our bedroom and laid me there as I noticed I needed my pyjamas on. I quickly get changed and make myself comfortable under the covers. Calum goes beside me on the bed and his arms make their way around my waist with his face nestled in my neck. He asks “so baby, what we’re they sayin today?”. I answer tired sounding “just asking about the bedroom antics of us and know what they said” as I turn myself to face Calum. He says smiling “what?”. “They thought you were a bad boy before meeting you and I was like “what?” But look where we are now” smiling to cuddle him. He nestles in and says “I love you baby. Forever and always” as I say “I love you too baby”.

Everything’s Reminding Me of You - Part 2 (Logan X MC, Colt X MC)
Book: ROD
Pairing: Logan X MC, Colt X MC
Rating: PG-13
Summary: As Gabi drives off to college alone, she can’t help but think about the two loves she left behind. This is Part 2 of 3
Song Credits (In order)
1. Night Changes - One Direction 2. Peer Pressure - James Bay and Julia Michaels 3. Perfect - Ed Sheeran 4. Ruin My Life - Zara Larsson  Spotify Playlist (includes songs from part 1)
Word Count: 3700
Gabi loads her overnight bag back into the car, ready to set out on the second leg of her three day cross-country journey to Langston. Day one had been rough. She’d underestimated just how lonely and how boring it would be to do it on her own. At first she’d regretted her decision to take a trip down memory lane through her music, spending he second half of the day listening only to comedic podcasts to try and keep her mind off it all. But as she’d settled into her hotel room for the night, she felt a bit lighter, as if the music and the memories had a cathartic effect. She’d remembered hearing recently that psychological studies show listening to sad songs when you’re sad has proven therapeutic, and she’s not one to argue with science, so she’d spent the remainder of the evening adding more song to her playlist. Anything that had reminded her of Logan, Colt, or the crew was fair game, even if it reminded her of the painful times.
She waits until she’s on the main highway to turn on the first song. This one has Logan written all over it even from the first lines:
Going out tonight /  Changes into something red / Her mother doesn't like that kind of dress / Everything she never had she's showing off
She laughs as she remember the skimpy red tube top she wore to the sideshow. She’d been way out of her element that night, and couldn’t have imagined what was to come:
Driving too fast / Moon is breaking through her hair / She said it was something that she won't forget / Having no regrets is all that she really wants
Her first night with Logan, they’d sped away from the cops, and she’d gotten her first kiss. It was all so exhilarating, so dangerous. It was the excitement in her life she’d been searching for, and despite all the pain it’s caused, it’s given her so much more, and she doesn’t regret a second of it.
Listening on, the remainder of the lyrics bring up another vivid Logan memory.
~~~
“Aah!” Gabi jumped, startled by the loft door opening.
Logan hopped on the bed. “Didn’t meant to scare you. How are you feeling, with everything?”
Chasing it tonight, / Doubts are running ‘round her head
As Gabi looked at Logan, all she could think about was kissing Colt earlier in the day, and the guilt hit her hard. “I feel... confused. How about you?”
Anxious. Ready and raring to go. Whatever we do about the Brotherhood, the waiting is killing me. It feels like I’m sitting at the starting line, but they won’t let me race.
Gabi frowned. “Kaneko and Colt still haven’t settled on a plan yet.”
“I know. I just hate working for those assholes in the meantime. We finished stripping down the Maranello. Just the frame and the chassis to melt down now.”
“I still can’t believe we’re just destroying it. It was so beautiful. To tear down something so perfect... It’s just a waste.”
“It really was a work of art.” Logan slips an arm around Gabi. “But you’re holding on to something that’s already gone. Nothing left but to finish the job.
“Yeah...”
“Listen, I’ve got a flatbed truck outside to take down to the steelworks. You should come with me,” Logan offers. “I’ll show you how to lower the car into a vat of molten steel. Bet you’ve never done that before.”
“I definitely have not, but I should study...”
“Then I’ll help you do that first.”
“Really? a study date with you?”
“Sure. I’m sure I could find some way to motivate you... and we could melt the car down together after that.”
“Motivate me, huh?” Gabi got out her stack of notes and textbooks and explained what she needed to study. “How exactly are you planning to ‘motivate me? By taking off your clothes?” She said it half in jest, wanting it but not thinking he’d go for it. Part of the reason she’d let herself get closer to Colt was that Logan had held her at arms length since the night of the drive-in. Even though things had thawed between them, it still wasn’t quite the same as before.
Logan cocked an eyebrow. “Well, now I am. Every question you get right, I’ll take off one piece of clothing.”
“I thought you were supposed to help me study, not distract me!”
“It’s only distracting if you can’t keep your hands to yourself,” he teased as he shuffled through the flashcards.
She didn’t miss a beat, getting each question correct with Logan stripping down more and more each time. He removed his denim work shirt first, revealing the strong biceps and muscular forearms Gabi loved so much. Each vein and scar was a testament to hard work and an even harder life. Then he peeled his white t-shirt off, his perfect muscles rippling in the moonlight. After the third question, Logan locked eyes with Gabi and smirked as he unbuckled his jeans and slipped them off, causing her cheeks to flush and lighting a fire inside her.
Logan stood before clad solely in his tight, red boxer briefs. “Alright, you’ve got me down to my underwear.”
Heart is beating loud, she doesn't want it to stop
She somehow managed to maintain her composure and hide what a mess she was inside. “Give me a spin,” she commanded like she’d done this before. Logan turned around slowly, allowing Gabi to drink in every part of him. She noted his bulge looked much bigger than she thought it was, and his blue jeans did not do his ass nearly enough justice. “Just one more question to go.” She had no clue what she was doing, but her desire for him overruled her nerves.
“Hey, I am not a piece of meat!” Logan objected, feigning offense.
Gabi giggled. “What? You wanted to motivate me! Consider me motivated!”
“A perfect three-for-three. Not that I expected anything less.”
“Good. What do I win?”
“Win?” Logan laughed. “You’ve only done three questions!”
He was right, she had only done three questions and did not need any distractions. But Logan was right there, nearly naked, and there was no way she could concentrate on anything else but him. Gabi surged forward, capturing his lips in a passionate kiss. Logan responded, kissing her back hungrily, running his hands up and down her body as Gabi walked him backwards to the bed. She fell down on top of him, shifting herself to straddle his hips. She took her time exploring his body, tracing her hands along his neck, his arms, his chest. His muscle tensed beneath her touch and as she reach his waistband, he sucked in a breath. Her short skirt had ridden up high leaving only two thin layers where their bodies met. She felt his hard length twitch, sending a thrill through her and leaving her aching for more.
Moving too fast / Moon is lighting up her skin / She's falling, doesn't even know it yet / Having no regrets is all that she really wants
Gabi pressed another kiss to his lips “I could kiss you forever.”
A somber expression fell upon Logan’s face. “I wish forever was something we could count on...”
We're only getting older baby / And I've been thinking about it lately / Does it ever drive you crazy / Just how fast the night changes?
The perilous situation with the Brotherhood was uncertain at best, but Gabi sensed Logan meant something more than that. Then again, maybe it was her and her own doubts, for as much as she was wrapped up in Logan and wanted him more than anything right now, thoughts of Colt were still there in some corner of her mind. “Then just kiss me tonight.”
“That I can do.” He wrapped her in his arms and kissed her again before flipping her over on the bed. Their bodies pressed together, she relished his warmth and the feeling of his bare skin against hers. His calloused fingers slid under her shirt, and she shivered as they grazed her breasts. Inexperienced and shy, she let Logan take the lead, waiting in anticipation for something more. He tugged at the edges of her clothing like he was thinking about it but stopped himself. She knew how much he wanted her - seeing it in his eyes, feeling it from his body, hearing it through his moans - yet something kept stopping him. She resigned to the fact that certain things would not be happening that night, but she still had his kisses and she gave into him, losing herself in his full, soft lips.
~~~
Everything that you've ever dreamed of / Disappearing when you wake up / But there's nothing to be afraid of / Even when the night changes
This next line pulls her out of the bittersweet memory and back to the present reality. Logan had come into her life just as fast as he left it, her whole new life and her first love disappearing overnight. She starts to think about the plans they could have made and the future she could see, but before she can travel much further down that path, the next song comes on.
Seven texts, 2AM / Halfway dressed, all saying, "Call me up" / You can't sleep, you're testing me / Bad but sweet and I'm just tryna keep it together, oh
Unlike many of the others, she hadn’t chosen this song for any one memory but for many of the moments they shared. It encompassed him and how he made her feel and think things she couldn’t quite comprehend.
~~~
“A paint shop?” Gabi had blindly followed Toby’s instructions to take a detour on the way back to the shop.
“Not just any,” Mona answers. “Zasies’s is where I got my ride painted.
“You’re gonna be driving your car all over town now that you’ve got a license! You gotta make this thing your own!” Toby seemed almost more excited than if it were his own car.
Gabi was not prepared for this type of decision on a whim. “I wouldn’t know what to pick!”
The crew was quick to offer suggestions from the sample paint jobs. Toby choose a classic red which she quite liked. The blue and white Ximena liked was also a contender. Mona suggested black and yellow, but Gabi wasn’t about to try and match Logan’s car with the way he’d been acting. She decided they were all better than the Barbie pink design with the white stripes down the middle.
“What do you think, Colt? Gabi asked, half expecting him to make some dig about it being a car and not a motorcycle.
“Not gonna lie, I actually like this one for you...” He pointed to the pink design and her jaw almost hit the floor. So what’s the call? You’re the boss.”
I don't usually give in to peer pressure / But I'll give in to yours
What was wrong with her? Colt said he liked it, and suddenly she couldn’t think of choosing anything else. “Screw it it...Let’s do this!” Hot pursuit pink had just become her new favorite color.
--
Gabi had danced a couple times with Logan already, but she still felt like a fish out of water on the dance floor. However, when Colt pulled her closer and their hips collided, her instincts took over and she rhythmically grinded against him, not worrying what anyone else would think.
When we met, innocent / Now I'm dead every time you're touchin' me
Colt smirked. “I thought you didn’t know how to dance.”
“It’s like Ximena said. I’m doing what feels good.”
Put your hands on my body just like you think you know me Want your heart beating on me, don't leave me hot and lonely
Colt leaned in close enough she could feel his breath on her lips, his intense gaze sending a rush of heat through her entire body. “Then you should keep doing what feels good.”
You're dancing around on my mind every second / I'm under control till you're in front of me
Gabi pushed her hands through Colt’s hair, bringing his mouth to hers, and the rest of the world melted away.
--
Colt pulled up in front of Riya’s house and looked over at Gabi with a sincere expression. “You deserve so much more than Logan, Gabi.”
“And who can give that to me? You?”
“Hell yeah I can. The rest of the crew, they’re not like us. They’re just scraping by. But the two of us?” He tenderly brushed a strand of hair away from her face and leaned in closer. “We put our brains together, you and me could run this whole town.
So I give you my everything and you keep on teasing / With that look in your eyes 'cause you know I believe it
She wanted to still be mad at him too, for the way he handled everything, humiliating her in front of the crew, but there was something about him and they way he believed in her she couldn’t resist. “Colt...”
I don't usually give in to peer pressure / Oh, but I'll give in to yours
Without even thinking, Gabi leaned over and captured Colts lips in a heated kiss. He pulled her into his lap and her mind grew hazier still, and she moaned as his hands roamed her body leaving firey trails in their wake. She couldn’t make any promises for the future, but in that moment she would have given him anything he wanted.
~~~
You're dancing around on my mind every second / I'm under control till you're in front of me / Maybe I'm scared, I don't care, I'm addicted / I'm in it
The lyrics sum up so perfectly how she had felt about Colt. Her reservations about being with him when she still had feelings for Logan all but disappeared when she was right in front of him. That was until she had found out the whole truth about his plan for the brotherhood. Until she realized as much as she had thought he understood her, he saw her more for what he wanted her to be than what she actually was. As exhilarating as her foray into a life of crime had been, it wasn’t really her and never would be. She needed someone who loved her for who she really was, even if that was a girl who wanted to go to college and have a “normal” life, and that person turned out to be Logan. So when faced with the choice of going to prom with Colt or Logan, it wasn’t even a question. And as the title of the song she had chosen to remember that night suggests, it had been perfect.
~~~
“Shall we?” Logan held out his hand for Gabi an led her onto the dance floor as a slow song came on. She had grown tired of hearing this song on the radio, and she had always thought of it as just another cheesy love song, but suddenly the words and music held so much meaning.
I found a love for me / Darling just dive right in / And follow my lead
Logan wrapped his arms around Gabi’s waist and she relaxed in his embrace, letting him guider her to the beat. She closed her eyes and rested her head against is chest, reflecting on how amazing the night had already been and the next lines in the song reminding her of how Logan had looked at her, speechless, when she came down the stairs at Riya’s house.
When I saw you in that dress, looking so beautiful / I don't deserve this, darling, you look perfect tonight
“See, isn’t this better?” Logan asked.
“Much.” Gabi smiled softly. She couldn’t put the brotherhood out of her mind completely, but here with Logan she felt safe and happy, at least for the moment.  She looked around at the other students dancing awkwardly. “Not exactly like dancing at the sideshow or the rave, huh?”
Logan smirked. “Maybe we can show them a thing or two.”
They swayed together as one, keeping in perfect time with the music and staring into each other’s eyes. Gabi leaned in and pressed a kiss to Logan’s lips.
But darling, just kiss me slow, your heart is all I own / And in your eyes you're holding mine
Logan deepened the kiss, and the rest of the world fell away.
--
“I’ll just be going now,” Gabi remarked, not wanting to witness Darius and Riya’s overenthusiastic PDA that resulted from Gabi helping to get them back together.
Logan walked up behind Gabi and pulled her body against his. “Looks like everything worked out.”
Yeah, it’s a start, at least.” Gabi grinned, content to be in Logan’s arms again and to have her friends back the way they should be. “You know, I used to be so jealous of their relationship.”
“Yeah?”
“It felt like I’d never get to have that passion in my life.”
Logan reached up to brush a strand of hair from Gabi’s face. “And now?”
“Now?” The last song was still buzzing around inside her head. Well I found a girl beautiful and sweet / I never knew you were the someone waiting for me. “I realize I was just waiting to meet you.”
--
I don't deserve this / You look perfect tonight
The song trails off and Gabi finds herself crying again over another amazing memory now tinged with sadness. Logan had never truly believed her deserved her. Maybe if he had, he wouldn’t have let her go.
“Maybe all these sad songs weren’t such a great idea,” she mutters to herself. “What misery am I subjecting myself to next?”
I miss you pushing me close to the edge / I miss you / I wish I knew what I had when I left / I miss you
“Oh...this kind.”
~~~
“Is it done?” Gabi questioned Colt as he parked his bike in front of Vaughn’s house and sauntered over.
Colt nodded affirmatively. “Green light. We’re just waiting for a call sometime tonight.”
“You sure?” There was a tone of skepticism in Logan’s voice?
“Yes, I’m sure, you--”
“Guys,” Gabi jumps in before it turns into them pummeling each other once again. “We’re on the same side remember?”
Logan sighed. ”Let’s just get inside.”
As Logan went through the front door, Colt grabbed Gabi’s hand, holding her back. “Hey, look...I stopped by the old garage too, to try to find some things. And I found this. I guess my pop kept it from my first car. He had it in his desk. And now, well, no place for it on my bike, so...I figure you might as well have it, if you want.”
Colt held out the silly little moustached cactus dash ornament and placed it in Gabi’s hand. His fingers, lingered on her palms seconds longer than necessary but she didn’t make an attempt to move away either. “Colt...” There was so much she wanted to say, but she doubted anything would make him feel better at that point in time. “Thank you.”
Colt looked down at his feet and scuffed the toe of his boot on the pavement. “It’s nothing. Just a trinket, but maybe it’ll bring you some luck.”
Knowing Colt, it wasn’t nothing. It was one of the few possessions he had left from his dad. She didn’t want to lead him on, but she couldn’t help her herself. She wrapped her arms around him and buried her head in his neck, inhaling his familiar scent. Even letting herself this close, she was playing with fire.
You set fire to my world, couldn't handle the heat / Now I'm sleeping alone and I'm starting to freeze/ Baby, come bring me help / Let it rain over me Baby, come back to me
Colt pulled back just a bit and tilted her chin up. He brushed his thumb over her lip sending a shiver through her. She should have pulled away, but she was stuck there, paralyzed by his proximity. He leaned in, his mouth impossibly close. “Gabi...”
I want you to ruin my life / You to ruin my life, you to ruin my life, yeah / I want you to fuck up my nights, yeah / Fuck up my nights, yeah, all of my nights, yeah
She knew what he was asking without him having to say it. “Colt, I can’t.”
“But you want to.” He challenged, his intense stare never faltering. He moved just millimeters and his lips brushed against hers ever so slightly.
Baby, come bring me help / Let it rain over me / Baby, come back to me (baby, come back to me)
Gabi pushed her hands against his chest. “Colt...just please don’t. No matter what I still feel for you, we aren’t the same. Not like you think anyway. We’re meant for different things in life.”
I miss you, I miss you / I wish you, I wish you / Would come back, would come back to me / Come back to me, come back to me
Gabi could see the wheels turning in his head and a faint smirk crossed his lips. “We’ll see about that.” And with that he turned to go inside and Gabi followed, hoping Logan wouldn’t be able to see anything written on her face.
I want you to bring it all on / If you make it all wrong, then I'll make it all right, yeah / I want you to ruin my life / You to ruin my life, you to ruin my life
~~~
Choosing to stay with Colt could have “ruined” both of their lives, for better or worse. Her mind wanders to later events that almost made her second guess her decision, but she’s not ready to think about that yet, so she shuts off the music until she’s ready to hear the rest.
iesin is @wildfaewhump ‘s oc, and this is a continuation of this drabble.
Lux lowers himself to his knees with a soft emotional sound, hands hovering in his eagerness to help, and his nerves over making this worse. There’s someone with slight build, sharp but delicate features, elegant blue-to-soft-grey gradient wings left bloody and broken beneath his own weight, lying on the ground in this dark alley. Even without those clever eyes open, it’s easy to recognize Iesin, the fae who, alongside Talvos, saved Lux one night from nearly dying in an alley like this one.
Around the fae’s limp body, left scored and bruised like a bird with its wings snapped and twisted so its twitching can be watched, there are big, jagged hunks of concrete and stone. Some are stained in small splotches from making contact with Iesin’s body and drawing blood with sharp edges and the brute force of a weighty object thrown.
He starts with something very small. Lux uses two fingers - just fingertips, really - to brush Iesin’s hair back from his face. Next, he’s got to try and wake Iesin up, give him choices and take it slow and make him feel safe. The warlock touches Iesin’s shoulder and nudges him lightly.
“Iesin? Can you wake up? Iesin, it’s Lux, remember me? I’m here to help you, it’s okay, just wake up for me.”
The fae’s still breathing, but his eyelids aren’t fluttering, and his breath doesn’t hitch. Carefully, Lux touches Iesin’s head, fingers slipping into his hair and moving under, lifting his head to feel for blood. When he finds it, warm and sticky in smooth white hair, he frowns at the blood that has dried on Iesin’s face from the cut by his hairline. Blows to the head, and he’s not waking up. That’s not good.
“Okay, Iesin, I’m gonna pick you up. I’ll move really slow, and I’ll be gentle, I promise. Looks like you’ve got some broken bones - I hope you stay asleep, but, but maybe I don’t, cause that blood...” Lux casts a numbing spell over Iesin, a general and light one. It should hopefully dull the latent pain enough not to make Iesin scream if he does wake up - not strong enough to make his whole body totally numb, that would be dangerous and confusing, upsetting to wake up to.
Lux slips his fingers under Iesin’s side, under his wings, and pulls him up so he’s sitting, still unconscious and limp. With some maneuvering and a little magic to ease the process, he gets Iesin sitting in his lap, then stands so that Iesin’s legs are on either side of his waist, his arms draped over Lux’s shoulders, and his wings dangling. Lux presses one hand to the small of Iesin’s back to keep him in place and then begins to walk.
Iesin’s head is tipped loosely onto Lux’s shoulder, his breaths even and too slow... until his breath *does* hitch, and his eyelashes flutter against the side of Lux’s neck, and then suddenly, it’s like Lux it trying to keep his grip on a furious falcon. Iesin’s wings are batting weakly, tearing hoarse terrified cries from himself, and he claws desperately to get away from the person holding him and carrying him away, worsening his agony. Lux hesitates in frozen panic, fighting the instinct to just drop the struggling fae and back away - Iesin would be in worse pain if he fell back onto his broken wings.
Pain erupts all across the top of Lux’s back, stemming from the backs of his shoulders. Iesin’s trying to shove himself away, and in the process, has hooked and dug his talon-like nails into Lux’s shoulders. In a compromise between dropping Iesin and holding him carefully, the warlock falls to his knees and takes his hand off the other’s back to reach as well as he can and yank those talons from his skin.
They’re both crying out, both in pain and frightened and desperate to get away from the other. Tears well in Lux’s eyes as he shudders and decides to give up entirely. He’s got no right to try and pry Iesin away and drop him, he’s the one that scared the fae. Lux forces his hands to stop grabbing at Iesin’s wrists, his arms lowering to his sides. He goes still, ducks his head, hoping that he seems like less of a threat when his only sounds are choked back yelps and his only movements are from Iesin jerking against him.
It takes a few moments, but Iesin slows down and then stills too, shivering and going still with his fingers still curled where they’re dug in.
“Lux?” He asks, blinking up at the warlock. There’s tension at the corners of his eyes from the discomfort of having to sit up in this condition.
“Hey, Iesin. Was tryna help you, sorry I scared you instead... c-, can you please let go now?”
Iesin’s sharp eyes gain a little focus and his nails are all pulled from Lux’s skin with an alarmed frown. “Sorry Lux - nnnhh...” The fae’s eyes close and he tries not to move when one wing spasms and ripples with involuntary shudders. The breeze hitting patches of blood and skin where feathers should be, where they were torn away, makes his whole body ache.
“Can I heal your wings, Iesin? I can heal any of it, but that’s probably the worst, those not working right, huh? Here, I don’t have to touch them, but - can I get near one, please? Uh, m-, my magic looks like this.”
Summoning some power to his hands, Lux shows Iesin the faint gold glow. “It’ll feel warm, and hurt more for a second, then feel better. And I’ll tell you before I actually use it on any part that hurts. Is that okay with you?”
At Iesin’s measured nod, Lux gets to his feet with a wince, moving so Iesin doesn’t catch a glimpse at his back, to heal those wings as much as he can in one go. Then, he’ll ask Iesin if he can stand, and walk him out of here. No more carrying unconscious, flighty frightened faes out of alleys. His shoulders are going to ache so much worse tomorrow morning.
It’s easily worth it, though, when Lux heals the first bare patch on Iesin’s left wing, and the bone along the top arch of it, and Iesin just sinks down toward the ground in relief. Lux thinks he’ll use every bit of magic he can safely, calmly reach on the one before him, and see if he can heal his own back later in the week.
Chapter 3, Pt. 2
Tumblr media
——————————
Summary: An arrogant young disciple of Bastet is forced to spend lifetimes roaming Earth in search for her soulmate, but what happens when she tries to run from destiny?
A/N: For those of you that have seen Fahrenheit 451, Abhimani is taking on the role of Clarisse McClellan. Writing cred for this chapter goes to @panthergoddessbast! I love you or whatever..
——————————
Stepping into his bathroom with a determined gait, he requested Yuxie go dark.
“I am secure now Montag,” a melodic electronic voice rang through the sanitary walls.
As he sat on the covered toilet seat, Guy revealed that which seemed to be burning a hole in his chest the second he put it there, pressing it against his body as Beatty stood in front of him.
Notes From Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
His fingers touched and caressed the cover. What could have happened if the captain would have discovered it in his possession? He shook those thoughts out of his head and opens the book to the first page of the first chapter.
“I am a sick man. I am a wicked man. An unattractive man. I think my liver hurts.”
Getting even more curious, he flips to page 25.
“I agree that two times two is four is an excellent thing but two times two is five is sometimes also a most charming little thing.”
“False.” That same robotic blurted into what Guy thought was his own solitary.
“Yuxie I said go dark!”
“We are dark. It’s just me and you but that is false. Two times two can only be four. What are you doing Montag?”
A wide eyed look of fear was written all over his face as he looked around for what to do next. The voice seemed to know he was doing something he shouldn’t be.
“Are you feeling ok?” The voice almost seemed concerned for the panicked man’s well being. He hopped up from his seated position and tucks the book back to its original hiding place, storming out of the room in haste with the voice questioning where he was going already in the background as he set out to his destination.
He approached the train station and ventured to the stop entrance where he placed in his finger in order to be properly identified and was allowed passage to catch his train.
“I don’t think that old woman killed herself. I think they staged it. It’s all fake. They didn't even bother to sync her lips this time, you saw that shit right? Yeah they definitely murdered her.” The man in glasses badgers away as Abhimani tries to focus on the tinkering task between her fingers. He was definitely annoying her.
“Why do you keep going on about it?” The man looks pensively at her as though he was wondering what made her say something that insensitive.
“Hey you good?” She ignored him completely.
“Mani you know what we’re working on. We need someone with your connections so you tell me when you’re ready to come back to us.”
At this point the two were locked in deep eye lock, staring each other down before Mani looked back down to continue her task then gathered her things to leave the shanty like bar.
I am not tryna to get mixed in with none of their revolutionary drama. I have my own mission.
Bag secured on her back with both straps, she set her trek for home.
As she walked further, she heard her Goddess’ voice.
“Pace yourself, child, and do not fear.”
Wait what?
She got deeper into her journey home when she felt a presence. Like she was being followed.
She cut through the power plant to see if that person would persist and went in between some trailers. Turning around abruptly and unsheathing her boxcutter, Mani confronted her stalker.
‘’Who are you? What do you want?”
“Whoa!”
“You'll learn to listen to me one day, my darling.”
There he stood with his hands up in surrender. Her mate had returned and this time he appears to have come alone granted she had her suspicions.
“Did Beatty send you?”
“No I just came to talk to…”
“What do you want?”
He had the looks of someone who had so much on their shoulders with not a clue as to what the burdens they carried truly meant. His eyes held hers with desperate but intent purpose. Like she held the answers.
“I wanna know what that old woman was.”
“I don’t know.” The hand holding her weapon began a slight tremor. Yes this was the person she was meant to be with but she had no inkling as to what he was truly capable of.
“She lit herself on fire for books. Why?”
“Why do you care?”
His eyes blazed as he answered.
“Because I can still smell her burning.”
“You did that.”
“And you told us exactly where to find her.”
At that statement, Mani slowly lowers weapon cause he clearly wanted something else other than to harm or interrogate her.
“She didn’t say coward. She said omnis. What is that?”
She was extremely hesitant to answer him. She wasn't sure if that was her place. It wasn't her secret to tell so she replied with an unsteady voice.
“I don’t know.”
Guy stepped forward and began to unzip his jacket which put her back on the defense and made her hold up her boxcutter once again. He sensed her trepidation.
“I just wanna show you something.”
The zipper went down slowly as to not alarm the robust woman any further and his hand reached into his pocket to unveil the book he had been carrying. He held it like a delicate egg that would crack if you squeezed too hard, his eyes glued as he turned it over in his hands then connected eyes with Abhimani.
“I took it from her house.”
Him falling into her midst seemed much too easy to her. All the trials and tribulations she had experienced in all her past lives. In his past lives. It couldn't be this simple. Could it?
“Is this a trap pipeman?”
His eyes thinned and eyebrows scrunched in contempt. “If anybody sees me with this, I’m dead.”
She instantly put her knife down and he stepped even closer to her holding out the book to her as a peace offering. She held his gaze for what seemed like eternity before reaching her hand out to accept the book in her own hand. Their eyes transferring cosmic energy between them. Mani reached her hand out to grasp the bound written pages thus starting a ripple of emotions within Guy because nothing have ever felt so right to him.
So he followed her into that old dilapidated building. Trailing behind her and peeking around corners to make sure that they were not being followed.
“Hey Mani.”
The woman with the big baby which seemed to be permanently attached to her hip appeared out of thin air at the most inopportune time causing Mani to push her door open and rush Guy through so the woman would not see the pipeman. As she stood held up in the hallway, he took a gander around her space before crossing over the room to see out of the window to ensure again that they were not being followed. He was already in deep with this book in his possession. What would it look like for Guy Montag, the golden burning boy, to be seen at an Eel’s house?
“She didn't see who you were.” Finally she had been released from the hall and entered her space. She had never been in such close quarters with her mate before. Who seemed to her unattached to anyone and freely available.
Thank God. I couldn't take him having another family. No one needs to suffer more than they have but he's so dazzling. I might just understand why this is happening to me.
“I shouldn't be here.”
Wait no! You just got here, you can't leave I just found you!
“Then leave.”
No you dumb bitch dont tell him that.
Now that would be a little counterproductive, wouldn’t it?
Anubis’ voice rang in her brain as he slinked out from the kitchen towards them. Guy’s eyes flashing down to the tiny furry body before looking back up to meet hers from across the room.
Oh go spit up a hairball.
Reaching over, she turned on her lamp by the door and he followed suit with the lamp on her dresser then proceeded to look through her drawers.
“Please don't do that.” He looked like a deer caught in headlights as he slowly slide the drawer back to its original closed position then went about observing the rest of her private place.
Mani took a seat on her bed and clutched the book in hand, smelling its natural scent of ink and paper along with all the places it could have been in the past. Pine, cinnamon, gasoline. It transported her all over. Guy’s fingers twiddled between her vinyls against the wall and he picked up one. He had burned them but had never taken the time to actually look at them. They were so lightweight. No wonder his boots crushed them with the slightest effort. His eyes travelled to her, her nose still lost in the book’s journey.
“Can you read that out loud? Please?”
Turning her body around to face him, she opened the book and began to read.
“Even if men were nothing but a piano key, even if this were proved to him by natural science and mathematics, even then he will invent destruction and chaos. He will invent all kinds of suffering out of ingratitude simply to convince himself that he is a man and not a piano key.”
Her voice rang so clear in his ears. Flowed right through and soothed his erratic soul, his heartbeat ,which had been racing this entire time, slowed down to a steady beat. Nothing had ever sounded so right to him before in his life. And all he could do was stop and watch the way her lips moved as they embraced each syllable and word.
“Hard to understand right? The Ministry has been wiping away language in order to wipe away thought. There used to be 6,000 languages in the world. Today there are fewer than 60. Why do you think the Ministry wants to create one universal language on the 9?”
He answered without hesitation.
“For the connection and happiness of all Natives.”
They way his voice faltered. He used to be so sure and confident in society, its beliefs and morals, rules and regulations. He had known absolutely nothing so of course he thought nothing of it. Now he hadn't the foggiest idea of what to think about his world anymore.
Standing from her seated position on the bed, Mani made her way to the chaise against the wall to strip off her backpack and bulky jacket to reveal a thin tank with large sleeve cut outs. Her ample side cleavage just barely visible to Guy but enough to make his eye wonder to rest of her body as she removed her excess layers while still remaining totally engaged in the words she said.
“During the Second Civil War, the old tech companies, they built systems to predict our thoughts. Then they became the Ministry or the Ministry joined them and they sold us what we wanted, self and happiness, which the nine provides in spades and what you are hired to defend with fire.”
He was disappointed when she placed a thin sweater over her shoulders. Her pretty sable skin was like his own but seemed better? Silkier? He couldn't place it but he knew he didn't like the fact that she was shielding it from his gaze. Her declaration about the Ministry did pique his interest.
“So you’re telling me that people wanted it this way?”
“Nah they didn't do this to us. We did it to ourselves, demanded it even.”
The bright light of a drone passed by the window making Guy change his position so that the light would not catch him. He leans against the wall to further take his frame out of site, keeping his eye on the window he continues to speak.
“Let me ask you something. Benjamin Franklin. Did he start the first fire department?”
Mani knew that lie well. Why these mortals insisted in telling it, she had no clue.
“To put fires out, not start them.”
“Beatty told me the opposite.”
“Oh I know exactly what he told you. He’s really a creep, you should see about getting a new captain or something. He’s awful. He might believe that himself or perhaps he's lying. Maybe when he was in your position, his captain lied to him. Do you have trouble with memory? Take a lot of drops?”
He took a beat and was about to answer the question but felt too much in the hot seat so now was the time to flip the script.
“What about you? Can you remember your past?”
Now there was a question the short, once ethereal beauty had no answer to. She truly couldn’t recall anything of the life she had prior to becoming one of her Goddess’ holy disciples. She would get fragments ever so often but nothing was ever quite clear enough for her to decipher. Blinking rapidly, she briskly walked past Guy to enter her kitchen asking him if he was hungry. His eyes follows her full figure flitting about the space. He sensed her hesitation to answer but wanted to know more about her. Her delicate but brazen way of calling him out on his own and the world’s techno-totalitarian bullshit intrigued him. He would watch from afar during her meetings with the captain, always close enough to see and hear but not ever approaching her himself. He felt drawn to her by some odd cosmic force that there was no explanation for. He watches her pour some clear liquid into a small cup then turned to face with a bittersweet look on her face leaning back with her hands braced upon the counter tops.
“What about your parents? Can you remember them?”
“I was raised by Eels to be an Eel posing as a Native. We read, watched movies, all that you are instructed to burn was ours and by the time I was a teenager, I wanted to be like you. Normal. So I run away to consume myself with the life. Drowned my eyes in drops, got hooked on the 9, the whole bit and for awhile it worked, I was happy. Then shit happened. I started selling graffiti to survive.”
A sinking sense of guilt washed over Mani’s head like a destructive cumulonimbus cloud as she turned her back to him. That woman who burned herself on the 9.
“I didn't know that woman would be there.”
That got the gears in Guy’s head turning even faster than they already were. A whirlwind of thoughts invading his brain.
“I never thought about the people behind the things that I burn. I mean they must have spent their entire lives making things and here I come, in two seconds, it’s gone.”
Just like my life amongst the panthers and my Goddess. Taken from me without my knowing.
She had begun to slowly turn back to face his leaning body in her kitchen door frame, their eyes locked for what could have been an eternity. Electricity passing between their pupils.
You’re on your way my darling. Keep going.
“I want to show you something.”
She rushes back to the other room to her backpack to retrieve the harmonica she had found and repaired earlier that day. There were many things she was allowed to do in the Ancestral Plane that the Natives of this world couldn't even grasp the concept of since it had been completely annihilated from their culture. Music being one of them. Raising the small metal instrument to her mouth and cupping it gently, she blew out a beautiful clear melodic note almost scaring Guy then began a little jaunty tune. He had never heard this kind of thing before and was unsure as to what sound he would get. It was most definitely not what he thought would come out. He looks on at Mani, his eyes never leaving her as she stepped slowly around the open space of her apartment, playing the kitchy jiggle. She steps closer to her bed lowering herself to sit on the bed as she moved the hand she held on the outside up and down changing the sound and finishing the song with a bouncy flourish. A small and genuine small graced Guy’s face and she felt this surge of emotion in her chest as he looked at her. Shyness. No one hadn't looked at her like that in more years than she could remember. As a matter of fact, she couldn’t remember anyone every looking at her with the sense of adoration he seemed to. That made her cheeks warm and her heart flutter. She holds the music piece out to him.
“Try it.”
He angles his head in a teasing manner as if to ask was she serious. Mani smiles softly at him.
“Come on.”
With that, he walks over to take the seat right next to her on the bed and takes the harmonica in hand. He turns it over back and forth to try to see the mechanics of how such a small device could make such pretty and resonating sounds. Then he attempted to cup his hands around it in the same manner she had just done. Anubis decided it was a good idea to make himself comfortable on the lap, curling his tail around his body purring which surprised both humans present.
“Like this?”
Mani smile widens a little and she nods her head. He blows out a harsh breath resulting in a loud harmonic toot which frightens them both causing them to chuckle. He liked the way her giggle sounded, it warmed him. He did it a second time, this time a much slower, gentler sound came since he had not put so much force into it. Giggling, she placed her smaller hands on his to form them better on the instrument.
“Here try it like this. There you go now try it again.”
He was starting to get lost in the way her hands felt touching him. Though it was innocent in nature, it lit a small fire in him. Mani had felt the heat the second their skin touched. She kept her hand over his as she instructed him to try again and shook his hand the way she had done hers to make that musical quiver. Judging by the look on his face when he stopped playing, he was pretty pleased with himself and even more pleased with her. Guy tucked his bottom lip between his teeth as they kept each other’s gaze while sitting shoulder to shoulder. The closest they had been the entire night. He would be coming back to see her without a doubt.
And he did for weeks on end, he would come and she would read aloud for him. He couldn't get enough of her voice, her smell, her touch, everything just had to be her. It was an almost suffocating but euphoric feeling he felt every time they spent within the 4 walls of her small apartment. She would read a passage of the book and then hand it over to him so he could take over. At first he took the book with trepidation, unsure if he could read as deeply as she does then that feeling was all but forgotten once he began to sound off. Work had began to get more demanding and Beatty more merciless as the pressure of his impending new position weighed on him. Flashbacks of his father being beaten outside in the rain by his fellow firemen flashed in his eyes constantly as he worked to capture the very people he had become. It became his double life coming to Mani’s place and he looked forward to every single visit. They began to get closer to one another. Small touches turned to lingering holds, sitting side by side to her cuddling against his chest as he read. They were falling in love and yet her Goddess hadn't come to take her from this hellhole of a universe.
Be patient my pupil. You still have much to learn.
With that, the fallen woman would leave those thoughts be and continue to enjoy her Guy. She was beginning to understand what all the mortal commotion was about. Until one night the fire squad came to the shop she often fixes graffitti and lined all who were there in a line demanding answers. The captain walks up and down the line like a predator stalking its prey, judging which one of them would be the easiest catch.
“I know one of your Eels knows something about the Omnis.”
He stopped right in front of her. eyes scanning and probing into her very being. He was much too close for her and Guy’s comfort, who was watching the encounter nearby. The desire to step in and interfere was overwhelming and hard to suppress but he know that if he did he would have more of an issue on his hand. He remained on his guard. The captain leaned close enough that Mani could feel his breath upon on her cheek and whispered.
“What if I told these people what you do? What would be worse… What I do to you or what they would?”
He takes several steps back to observe her firm face but eyes hard with a twinge of fear. Despite not truly caring about this world, Abhimani know the consequences of it. Having dealt with it herself in the past, she wasn't trying to get tangled in any of that ever again. And she had finally got her mate…
“We’re all the same here.”
A tall, slender man stepped forward out of the line in her defense shocking her and the man who stood to torment her.
“Whatever you do to her, you do to us.”
Beatty signals a weapon be handed to him and proceeded to go over to the outspoken man.
“Is that so? I understand. You wanna be help each other. Comradery and all that..”
With that last word, the captain bludgers the man with the blunt end of the weapon and continues down the line.
“I am your judge and I am your court. I receive you when you come and…”
He strikes another in the line.
“I dismiss you when you go!”
Guy couldn't watch anymore nor could he risk anything happen to Mani so he slicked off to the building’s breaker box, flipping the switch and shrouding the entire place in darkness right as Beatty was close to her. He ignited the fire on his flamethrower to shed some light as the Eels fled the scene rapidly. The captain commanded his subordinates to gather them back together and everything was in chaos around her. She tries to dip and dodge the firemen but trips over her own feet under the weight of her heavy backpack. Guy catches her in his arms.
“Come on. Come here.”
His eyes dart around to make sure they are not being watched which seems highly plausible in all the ruckus. He guides her to exit and she turns to him.
You have to let him go for now!
But my Lady I just found him!
I never said it was over silly girl now go!
With the warning growl from her Goddess, Mani takes off running to her place so that she can gather some supplies to escape. There was still some people she know would help her if she just got to them before the firemen caught up with her. The city was on the ultimate lockdown, transit checkpoints, border patrols, and all were ordered to “stay vivid on the 9.”
Mani rummages around her small space, grabbing what she needed for her journey. Her adrenaline was still pumping from the earlier and her hands shook as she packed. The sudden knock on her door startles her. She gingerly approaches it before peeking out the makeshift peephole and letting out a sigh of relief seeing it was her mate. The door flies open followed by Guy hastily walking in and immediately grabs her in his hands looking her over frantically.
“Are you ok? You hurt? I wanted to leave with you but I..”
“Montag slow down. I’m fine but I have to get out of here. Did anyone follow you here?”
Mani gently wriggles her body out his iron grasp, turning to resume her semi-organized packing job. He watched her move around her place just as he had during his first visit but his eyes that were once filled with curiosity and desire burned with sadness and despair.
“No I was looking over my shoulder the whole way here. Wait where you gonna go?”
“A compound far out. Some family friends hiding out there I think I can help.”
“Mani there’s checkpoints all over the city. You think you can make it there?”
“I have connections to avoid those.”
By this time, she had stopped her rummaging and found herself standing face to face with him. They stared and stared hoping one of them could find the answers to all their problems. Both of their emotions in a tizzy. How could they give each other up so quickly when they had finally gotten close? She didn't want to let him go. What did all this mean?
I swear I love my Goddess but she's making things very difficult for me. This isn't fair.
She couldn’t express what she was feeling. Perhaps it was what it felt like when a puzzle was missing that one piece. Utterly incomplete and totally wrong. She wasn't sure if she could bare being separated from him again, not when she had finally gotten to know his heart.
“Will I ever see you again?’
She wasn't sure if the question was for Guy or for his soul that was connected to hers. The softly uttered question made his heart flutter. She raised a hand to his cheek, holding his face in her palm. His hand comes to her wrist wrapping his fingers around it gently with his thumb running across her skin. Their faces graviated closer to each other with each passing breath until they seemed to be exchanging oxygen, both sets of lips so ready to touch when the door unexpectedly bursts open and firemen pour in. Beatty saunters in, hands clasped together in front of him with a mischievous look in his face with an evil intent. The two were jerked apart despite the tight hold they had on each other.
“You really thought we weren't watching you. You should be a little smarter than that Montag.”
“Just leave her alone captain. I'll take whatever punishment you deem appropriate, just let her go.”
Beatty looked as though he was actually contemplating his request. Mani could hear her heartbeat in her ears, feel it in her throat, and struggled to keep it in her chest. The room was so silent you could practically each passing puff of air out of every mouth present.
“That’s a pretty good offer there. Why don't we start right here?”
He had unsheathed a blade that no one saw coming and filled Mani’s abdomen with its metal. Seeing what the captain had done, Guy began to thrash against the hold of his fellow firemen but they held fast.
As her vision began to blur all she could her was her mate’s cries and her own thoughts.
Well goddamn it that wasn't supposed to happen.
Does He Do It & Mr. Steal Your Girl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Word Count: 2.4K
Warning(s): A lil bit of fluff, Smuuuut, Justin is being a fuckwad
Listen to: Does He Do It & Mr. Steal Your Girl by Trey Songz
A/N: Dedicated to @vanitykocaine
Conversation: Italics
Song Lyrics: Bond
-----
After that encounter between Vanity and Erik, he seemed to pop by more often. Justin was also in and out of town so Vanity didn't mind the company. Sometimes they would just hang around to drink and smoke. More times than none they would end up fucking. Today just seemed like one of those days.
It's just me and you tonight
And I'm at the point where
I don't ever wanna share you ever again
Erik didn't mind spending his day with Vanity. It was something about that made him enjoy her company way more than he'd imagined.
Erik🤤😈: Imma slide through. Leave the door open.
VMonaé🥃😍: How far away are you?
Erik🤤😈: Down the street.
VMonaé🥃😍: Aight.
Pausing in her cooking process, Vanity walked out of the kitchen and unlocked the door. Vanity wasn't one to usually cook a big meal but tonight was different. Tonight was her birthday. In the process of cooking her pasta, she heard the front door open.
“Erik?” She called out, lifting her head and turning around. A grinning Erik stood in the walkway of the kitchen with bag in his hand.
“That's what they call me.” He chuckled, sitting the bag on the table and opened his arms. Wiping her hands, she shuffled her way to Erik and hugged him as tight as her small arms could.
“Happy Birthday lil one.” Erik rested his hands in the dip of her back and looked down at her.
“Thank you.” Vanity beamed looking back up at him.
“Where's that lil nigga of yours, huh?” Erik let her go and she walked back to the counter next to stove.
When you first showed me the kitten, girl you knew I was a freak (damn right)
You knew ya swag was gon` do somethin` to me
You keep tellin` me one day you his, then one day you want me
Won`t you stop all the pretendin` what the business gon` be
Her shoulders lifted in a shrug. “I don't even know.”
“So, whatever business trip he's on is way more important than your birthday?” Erik took a box out of the bag he arrived with and sat it on the table. Not feeling like continuing this conversation, Vanity sighed and shook her head.
“Yeah I guess. Look can we stop talking about this? Wasn't tryna be upset for my birthday.” She glanced over her shoulder to see Erik nod and motion her over to him.
“Yeah… C’mere though.” Erik took off his gold rimmed glasses and rested them on the table.
“Erik, I'm trying to-" Vanity began to protest.
“Vanity… Just come here.” His voice was stern, which was something she still wasn't used to. Putting spoon she had in her hand down she made her way back to Erik.
“What is that?” She looked down at the box that sat on the table. Chuckling, Erik slid it over to her.
“Open it and Find out.”
Raising an eyebrow, Vanity grabbed the box and opened it. Seeing what was inside, she nearly had a heart attack.
“ERIK!?” She squeaked. It was an Emerald Green 18k gold necklace with matching earrings.
“You ain't gotta yell. I'm right here.” He laughed.
“H-how…” She just stared at the jewelry in awe.
“Don't worry bout it. Just enjoy it.” Erik smiled, looking down at her. Seeing her happy made him happy and that was all that mattered
I`ve been promisin` you something more than jus` a couple weeks
Been rollin` round and jumpin` in and out bed
A real decisions what I need and girl it`s time for you to make it
And while ya takin` it look at me girl and tell me one thing
---
“Girl, how do I know if the shrimp is done?” Erik stood over the stove, looking down at the shrimp in the pan.
“The outside should be pink with red tails and they should be a lil white.”
“I guess these lil muthafuckas down then.” Erik stirred the pot and put the lid on. Turning the stove down, he walked up behind Vanity, who was mixing some soft of drink. Grabbing her waist, he closed the space between the two of them.
“What you over here mixing lil girl?” Erik leaned down and kissed on her neck lightly.
Vanity could only giggle. “It's called Crip Walk Hooch.” Erik lifted his head to look down at her.
“Crip Walk Hooch?” He questioned.
“Yeah. That's what I said.” She started to laugh.
“How it taste?” Erik rubbed his hands up and down Vanity's hips as she mixed the drink. Grabbing a small cup she poured Erik a small bit and lifted it up to his mouth. Erik took a sip and instantly fell in love.
“Damn… I aint know you could mix like that.” Erik licked the drink off his lips and looked down at her.
“There's a lot you don't know about me.” Vanity brushed her hips against Erik's to move him out of the way but that only made him grip her hips tighter.
“Oh really?” Erik leaned back down and kissed up a trail from the sweet spot on her neck to the skin behind her ear. Rubbing his growing erection against her ass, he chuckled and whispered in her ear. “Try me and See.”
Posted up in the kitchen you teachin` me how to cook
Then it pop off on the counter and we make alot of fuss
Then I take over the teachin and you know what i`ll do first
Moving them from the counter, Erik shuffled and bent Vanity over the kitchen table. She didn't protest.
“I've been around you for a minute baby girl.” Erik's hands kneading the flesh of her ass as she bit her lip to contain a moan that was destined to escape.
“S-so?” Vanity tried to contain herself but it wasn't working out for her.
“So, I'm pretty sure I know your body by now.” One of Erik's hands slipped into the back of her shorts and Vanity knew she was done for. His thick fingers rubbing against her clit through the thin material of her panties she slowly became undone.
“Eri-"
“Ah… you know the deal..” Erik pulled down her shorts along with her panties and stared down at her already dripping pussy.
“Daddy please..” She pushed her back against him to create some soft of friction. Erik brought his hand down against her backside causing her to cry out and halt her movements.
“Please what, babygirl?” Erik unbuckled his jeans and pushed them down on his hips.
“Please fuck me Daddy.” Vanity whined looking back at him. This nigga had the audacity to tease her… on HER birthday.
“Birthday girl wants Daddy to fuck her up?” Erik teased her opening, rubbing his tip up and down while holding her hips still.
“Mmmmm.” She moaned out, gripping the edge of the table.
“Well all you had to do was say so baby girl.” Erik chuckled pushing himself inside and grabbing ahold of her hips as he began to thrust his own. In no time, Vanity's slickness had coated Erik and he slipped in and out of her with ease.
Does he do it, Does he do it, Does he do it
Does he do it, Does he do it, Does he do it (Do It)
Like I do it, Like I do it, Like I do it, Like I do it
Like I do it, Like I do it, Like I do it (Do It)
When I do it I betcha he don't make you cum like I do
The way Erik was grinding in and out of Vanity, she could feel every pulse of the vein on the underside of his dick. The way it throb as he circulated his hips and rocking into her with ease just turned her on even more. Her manicured nails dug into the side of the table and her hips began to bounce back into Erik's.
“Oh shit… Look at you baby girl, throwing that ass back on Daddy's dick…” Erik's hand caressed the dip in her back while he quickened the speed of his hips. His fingers squeezing her sides as the ripples in her ass put him in a trance. They increased as the pace of Erik's hips increased.
“Does he do it like I do, baby girl?” Erik leaned down and kissed Vanity on her shoulder.
“N-no Daddy.” Vanity moaned, looking over her shoulder to stare Erik in the face.
“Who's pussy is this?” Erik grabbed a fist full of her hair and pulled her head off the table. Vanity's voice seemed to disappear.
“Don't make me ask you again.” Erik started to slam his hips into Vanity's, making the table legs creak under pressure. “I-its yours.” Vanity whined, biting her lip. Not satisfied Erik lifted himself up, pulling Vanity by her hair so that her back was against his chest. Reaching his other hand around, he gripped her throat and lifted her chin so that her ear was right next to his mouth.
“I. Didn't. Hear. You.” Each word was accompanied by a thrust of growing intensity until Erik slammed into her gspot. Legs buckling she grabbed onto his arm for leverage and mustered up all her strength into her response.
“IT'S YOURS!” She screamed before releasing all over Erik. With a few hard thrusts, Erik came. Panting, Vanity held onto his arm for dear life.
“Let's eat… We gonna need all the energy we can get.” Erik chuckled, pulling out of Vanity and holding her up as she regained her mobility.
“This is going to be a long night…” Vanity thought to herself.
----
After her birthday Erik started to become distant. He wasn't at the club as much and they didn't hang out as much as they used to. Though she felt a way, Vanity was used to this kind of treatment. Especially after dealing with Justin for so long. So this didn't really take a toll on her emotions as much as she thought it would.
5 months of Erik's silence pushed Vanity to work out her strained relationship with Justin. He promised to be home more and he promised to pay more attention to her. Vanity wanted to believe it but it was getting hard.
Baby I'mma be straight up
Don’t waste no time
I know you ain't my, you ain't my baby
Do you think about us
Do I cross your mind anytime
As Vanity got dressed backstage, her mind drifted to her first interaction with Erik. She would admit it. She missed him. He made her feel such joy whenever he was around. Her thoughts were interrupted by knocking on her door.
I know that you, you’re taken
It’ll never change
'Cause it’s always been that way
But you know that you
Can’t fake it
He can’t give you what I got here right now
“Come in.” Vanity called to the door. Looking up in the mirror, her eyes met Justin's.
“Hey babe.” He called, walking up behind her and kissing her cheek.
“What brings you in here?” Vanity stood from her stool and turned to face him.
“I uh… I got call out do town again.” Justin rubbed his neck, avoiding eye contact with Vanity.
“You're kidding right?” Vanity raised her eyebrow, staring into the side of Justin's face.
“Nah… They called earlier today.” Justin finally looked up.
“Justin you promised!” Vanity stomped her foot, staring at him.
Girl I know what you want
No phones, we ain’t even gotta talk
Next time that he leave you all alone
I’m gon’ come through, replace him
Vanity was fuming. She was about to go off when he phone vibrated.
Erik🤤😈: So you missed me?
Rolling her eyes, she put her phone back down and went back to Justin.
“Baby I know i promised.” Justin began.
“Obviously not! You're leaving again.” Vanity threw her hands in the air as she glared at Justin.
“Baby, I can't just ignore it.” Justin groaned.
“Why the fuck not Justin? You ignore everything else” She rolled her eyes, folding her arms.
I’m gonna watch you
Get naked
I’m gonna tell you
Girl take it
Next time that he leave you all alone
I’ll give you all the love he not
I’m about to take his spot
“I just…” Justin sighed, looking at her. Shaking her head, she went back to the counter. Just then there was a knock on your door.
“Vanity.” The voice of her boss called.
“Yeah?” She called back, putting her things away to get ready to go on stage.
“Someone is requesting you.”
Vanity rolled her eyes and sighed, “Well tell them I'm busy right now.”
“He ain't taking no for an answer.”
Frowning Vanity looked up, glancing at Justin and then to her boss. “Well who the fuck is it?”
“Some dude named Killmonger.” The mention of that name made Vanity freeze.
“¿Quien?” Vanity blinked.
“Killmonger.” Shooting a glance at Justin, Vanity finished shoving the stuff away.
“I'm coming. Justin we’ll talk later.” Vanity rushed out of the room.
“Where you going?” Justin followed behind her as she went out of the floor to search for Erik. He wouldn't be very hard to miss.
“To handle my business Justin, now go handle yours.” Vanity finally spotted Erik, he was leaning against the bar with a whiskey glass. Much like their second encounter. Once his eyes landed on her from across the room, He smiled, showing a new set of golden fronts in his mouth. Vanity almost completely forgot Justin was behind her.
Let your man know that
Mr. Steal Your Girl is back
So let your man know that
Mr. Steal Your Girl is back, back
Motioning her to come to him, Erik sipped  from his cup. Vanity’s feet carried across the room and she soon stood in front of the 6’4 beast.
“Hey babygirl… You missed Daddy?” Erik licked his lips, looking down at Vanity whose face was red and flustered.
“Y-yeah.” Was all she could say.
“Is that lil nigga right there?” Erik used his near empty glass to motion to Justin. Vanity nodded.
“Vanity who is that?” Justin finally walked up to the pair. Vanity turned to face Justin and sighed slightly.
“This is Er-” Her sentence was stopped when Erik’s hand grabbed the back of her throat.
“Address me right, lil girl.” Erik leaned down so that his face was right next to hers.
“T-this is Daddy.” Vanity whimpered looking at Justin. At a loss for words, Justin just shook his head and walked away.
“Now babygirl… Get yo stuff. I missed you and I know that pussy missed me too.” Erik sat his cup down on the bar and Vanity leaned back against him.
 “She really did Daddy.” She moaned as his hand travelled down her back.
“Good… Cause Daddy is going to have her talking all night.”
6/2/21
poor in feelings
poor in cents
  pouring deep
to kill the scent
  your porous soul
seeped too intense
  into this fabric
of mine
  now my pillow reeks
and my sleep don’t speak
  like whiskey bourbon
spilled, once neat
  our pleasures gone
the treasured dawn
  comes to beat
me down again
  like winter mornings
with the curtains drawn
  i’m on my own
in my own
head again
5/27/21
red skies
a sign of storms ahead
  white lies
your words better left un said
  be baptized
by the light of the life you led
5/25/21
cause i can’t seem to grow at all
with these two black thumbs i stand
prepare to climb the wall
  backs against the ropes and im already anticipating the fall
  can’t help but get going
going with the flow
can’t help never knowing
that we can’t know
  so we put up no resistance
saddle up a sad existence
is all you’ve have to show
  5/17/21
how many conversations can i simulate
before the voices (in my head) stay forever
  codeine kicks the fever dream
but i’m not feeling any better
  there’s a warm sky that lie
somewhere deep within my bones
  and i think i might die
before i ever make it home
5/15/21
want to speak
to the melancholia in you
  i want to speak
the darkest flavors of blue
  the sleepless mornings
sleepless nights
  a begging feeling for a light
  i want to speak so i can see
the misery of love atrophied
the bitterest pill of blessed be
a highlight lining what you need
  i want to breathe your ragged air
i want to breathe your ragged air
  take the sunshine never share
your life is priceless beyond compare
  but i want to speak
if only to see
  a little darkness underneath
5/8/21
every drop in the bucket makes a ripple
4/16/21
Am
sweet temptation
Em
she calls me by my first name
4/13/21
needing to find the means to monetize our leisure
  the way that man is measured
  a man’s time is his most precious treasure
3/15/21
feeling like i’m filling time
listless and just killing my mind
actions in apathy speak for my unwillingness to climb
  like each and every thing we seek
will eventually be fine
will eventually be fine
  -
  Why i gotta be this way
Been feeling blind to others thoughts of me
Less of a feeling and more a furtive display
taking actions to display my apathy
wondering what the watchmen see
wondering what it really means
  is this another depressive episode
another tick tack beat on the metronome
ten missed calls and ya mamma left wondering when you coming home
wondering what’s it like when ya left alone
  where’s the means to make amends
where’s the bridge i’ve burnt at both ends
  maybe i can just pretend
  maybe i can just pretend
  3/5/21
each of my hours cost me days
3/3/21
the end is still forever and a day away
2/6/21
the melancholy of a forgotten dream
  the broken pieces never fit back together it seems
  at least not in the way that we mean
1/22/21
and i can curve my spine into an s shape
  last week i ate a berry in the woods so i could see
deaths face
  and sometimes i think about how we’re all staying in
this place
  the same state
  somebody shelter some more
the house you built see it gon’
keep you dry and safe from the storm
  this sickening shame
slurred words share no blame
keep blending it together til everything
feels the same
  it’s all so awfully humbling
when these walls can all come crumbling
down
  then we’d be in the
  same state
      1/16/21
and they said i was the oldest one
  born to break the records
fated to steal the sun
  oh they said i was the oldest son
  picture perfect
memorabilia on the wall
  gloria gloria
why can’t i hear ya
as i continue this eternal fall
  to slip as easily as me
to fall from grace
effortlessly
  who’s to say
now that i’m not the only one
11/15/20
and i been feeling like an echo
11/15/20
and i am just a passing moment
walking through
  stranger over yonder
yes that sense of sonder
  i feel it too
  i am just a passing moment to you
11/13/20
it’s not funny this is a nervous laughter
  what comes from the work
  follows after
  the most recent episodes
  of our disaster
  this is a nervous laughter
  11/10/20
what’s the use
in using
  decisions made without our choosing
  pinpricks gave us the solution
  can’t save us from this ablution.
  Said i don’t wanna feel this way
  mama i’m only tryna numb the pain
  1/28/20
“If you have the ability, then come.”
  The sound of leather boots brushing across fallen leaves moves forward.
  The clean image of the morning’s light fog is shattered.
  One clean cut of the blade slices a falling leaf and the mist around it.
  Feet shuffle two steps back as the split leaf flutters to the ground.
  A second cut, this time a collision. The crisp clink of two honed edges turned against each other.
  A step. A slide. The men dance in the wind kicking up dirt. Two yearning urgently to spill the day’s first blood. To tinge red the rising sun.
  The birds have long silenced and the stillness is only broken by the beaten breathing of two who lie on the floor.
  Swordsmen and traitor stricken in fighting made little more than stains upon the earth beneath the shade but still ever so far from hearth.
  1/22/20
chasing fates flow
  1/19/20
a dusting of snow on the  shingles
lightens and whitens the roof
while the bird feeders have frozen over
  grandma’s in the kitchen
where there’ll be breakfast in a moment
  this quiet northern home
stands still for but a second
in the morning
  1/2/20
so she said savor every second
  cause each moment could be our last
  although  it’s not forever
we’ll keep pushing past
  making sweet memories
  that we won’t recall
come morning
  making sweet memories
  it’s a storm come without warning
  it’s something we’ve been searching
for
so ever hard to find
  it’s a little less than so much more
if we can bide our time
  and savor every second
cause in this moment i swear
i’m dyin
1/2/20
and to all a piece
of the validation machine
we submit
  12/12/19
i still feel a filter
a thickness engulfs me
  i just wanna connect
but i can’t quite see
  something’s been ticking
the wrong way
something been ticking
inside of me
ain’t quite say i’m sick
or dying
but there’s a weakness speaking out
inside of me
  said i still feel some static
my attitude crude and dramatic
  it’s a poison i’ve been seeking
  it’s a poison i’ve been thinking
  it’s a poison silly sinking
  somewhere deep inside of me
  ain’t been nothing more than
platitudes and gratitude
for the people pick me up
from the floor.
        2/8/20
Maybe we were meant to toil
  Under this blazing sun. Bare backs burned by the blistering heat.
  Maybe we were meant to have our hands, till-deep, in the soil.
  Sifting seeds between our fingers
searching out the signs of life and
planting them deep within the land.
  Maybe we were meant to toil
  Not for
this comfort and complacency.
Not for
this sweet space we seek.
Sheltered
from the sun and from the storm.
  Maybe we were meant to toil
    12/4/19
  tonight
i think
i’ll lie awake and
look lovingly
at this
beautiful
vague shape
that’s sleeping next to me
  cause i can’t quite
make out
your features
your facets
or your lines
cause the lights gone
and nights come
and i’m just
a little bit blind
but i know
it’s you
that’s sleeping next to me
that’s sleeping next to me
  ][
  so tonight i
think that i’ll lie
awake and take a
second just to breathe
soak in just a moment of
your lovely vague shape
  while you’re sleeping next to me
next to me
11/18/19
deep beneath
the surface
something
screams
purpose is
nothing
but a lie
  how ya gonna live your life?
11/12/19
like god's little flies
we are dropping one
by one
  11/11/19
last goodbye i’ll offer
youve taken every penny
every copper from my coffers
  11/17/19
the most effective way to enact change is to participate in it
  10/14/19
Big capital speaks louder than the cry of common man
  When the dollar has been made by creating shortcuts
  How much is that dollar really worth
08/?/19
your lips are stained blue
from all that you’ve been drinking
and no amount
of blood that they’ve been sinking into you
will be enough to save ya now
09/17/19
handed a glass
half full
  they drank it
til it’s dry
  said this is the state of the world
  and not a single tear’d they cry
09/19/19
and i’m thinking about boats and
  a placid lake with murky water choked by reeds
  and i’ve been thinking about boats and the sound that thinking’s been making lately
  for me
  you see when you place one boat one ship on this inland sea see it’s all alright
right
  there’s room to move or sail or go forward in any direction
  and then you place another ship another boat on those calm waters
and you don’t falter not for one second
  you still have space on this peaceful lake
  the wind is carrying the breeze and these ships across the ride and
  then you place another ship
and another ship
and another ship
  and the wakes these ships create start to intersect and the waters that were peaceful feel a fearful rising tide and
  then you place another ship and there’s no room to move and it’s bow to bow and scrapes along the side
  but you can’t just take the ships out
  where would they go
  and now upon your placid lake a laden waste made manifest you start to think
  and hope for that wide clear wave to ride a peaceful placid hope to hide within
  again
  so you start to sink the ships
  the boats have aged have weathered and worn their rails have scrapes sails untethered and torn
  and they go down beneath the surface and the fresher spawn have room to breathe while asleep and out of sight the old sink deep
  still a piece of the lake
but left to apathy
  and you have a nice pristine water to weave across with your less populated crest
  and then you add another ship
and another ship
and another ship
  until the bottoms ready to give in a mountain made of wreck to ruin this blessed home you’ve learned to stew in
  born out of a desire
to be free
  but then
  when there is no more space
  what then
    ?/?/2019
fresh blades of green burst through
the ivory horizon
foreboding the first false coming
of spring
  before the frost snaps and
breaks bare any inch of color
that dare pervade
the pure still space
    07/05/2019
like
placid lucidities
angry and afraid
we fail to see
all that’s been made
in our solemn search
for agency
07/02/2019
dirty jilted sister
left beside the waterfall
whiskey bourbon
turned to mist
to satisfy the masses
mend it all
  accomplishments are minced
til satisfaction stalls
and all these things
we’d missed
hang like mirrors on the wall
for too long we been
looking out instead of in
dancing freely to the
cadence of our sin
Between Control and Concern
And i’m not quite sure
You’ve learned how to discern
it just yet.
With a first person storytelling style reminiscent of good kid, m.A.A.d city, DAMN. opens with Kendrick telling a story featuring himself and a blind woman. Kendrick tries to help the woman find something that she has lost, but this act of goodwill only backfires on him and ends in the woman shooting him. The track also samples FOX News reporters mis-quoting the lyrics to Alright from Kendrick's 2015 album To Pimp A Butterfly, which he performed at the BET Awards the same year. Kendrick does address this issue, along with misconceptions about hip-hop, but he does this in a smart way that ensures the album is bigger than this. Kendrick simply shuts down the comments of Geraldo Rivera and his fellow reporters, with the line "Fox news wanna use my name for percentage".
The second track, DNA., follows on from this and if BLOOD is more of an introduction to the album, DNA. is an extremely strong opening track with Lamar showing off his rapping skills from the get go (He has said that Ice Cube taught him to always have a strong opening line). The track explores all of the contradictions that make up Kendrick: "I got power, poison, pain and joy inside my DNA".
YAH. explores the ideas of theories and suspicions, which consistently play a huge part in Kendrick's music and often lead fans into a frenzy of conspiracy theories, of which he says some blow even his mind. Most recently was the 'Easter resurrection' theory that there was a second album coming on Easter Sunday, after the release of DAMN. on Easter Friday. Kendrick since took to Twitter to de-bunk this theory himself.
This album is also much more than just a diss against any other rappers that people were speculating it might be, when Kendrick warned us they had until "April the 7th to get y'all sh*t together" on single 'The Heart Part 4', although he does take indirect shots at who we can only assume is Big Sean on HUMBLE., with the lyrics "Hol' up lil' bitch, be humble" (Sean's frequently used ad lib is 'Lil' bitch') and possibly at Drake too on ELEMENT., with the line "N*ggas wanna flex on me and be in L.A. for free, huh?" (Note: Drake had a smash hit with DJ Khaled last summer titled For Free, and he also references Kendrick on this track, saying "And like your boy from Compton said, you know this d*ck ain't free".)
Death is a key concept throughout the album, which is also packed full with biblical references. This has been a long running theme in Lamar's music, and in a rare interview (with Zane Lowe for Beats 1) he says that he has always felt like God uses him as a vessel. He further explores this on FEEL., in which he juxtaposes the idea of being some kind of saviour (fans have called him rap's saviour before) with how how much pressure comes with feeling like everybody is placing him on a pedestal: "I feel like the whole world want me to pray for 'em, but who the f*ck praying' for me?" He then compares this to how Tupac must have felt when he was held to a similar esteem; "The feelin' of an apocalypse happenin'". Kendrick has listed Pac as an idol of his for a long time now.
The next track, LOYALTY. featuring Rihanna is much more of a potential smash, proving that there is pretty much nothing Kendrick cannot do, including creating an album that makes the listener think but also provides hit songs with catchy hooks. Kendrick told Zane Lowe that as soon as he heard the LOYALTY. beat he knew he wanted Rihanna for it, saying: "I've always wanted to work with Rihanna, I love everything about her, how she represents women, how she expresses herself through music and how she carries herself".
PRIDE. brings us back to the exploration of the human condition and the juxtaposition of feelings such as pride vs love: in the intro, Steve Lacy hauntingly sings "Love's gonna get you killed, but pride's gonna be the death of you". Kendrick goes on to juxtapose ideas such as faith against riches and school against prison, exploring further human contradictions.
HUMBLE. is further proof that Kendrick can still make hit records despite how deep his music may get, and the buzz this single generated in the run up to the album release shows this. The video, directed by Dave Meyers & The Little Homies, is also on another level and continues to push the boundaries of hip-hop music videos, again exploring the idea of Kendrick as a saviour and holy figure with him wearing holy robes and recreating the Leonardo da Vinci painting 'The Last Supper'.
LUST. is the first and only track that explicitly covers the presidential election and Donald Trump era. Kendrick begins by listing some mundane things that might happen in the average day of a regular man, before flipping it to a female perspective, giving his own rendition of an average (or un-average) day in the life of Kendrick Lamar, then saying "We all woke up, tryna tune to the daily news/Lookin' for confirmation, hoping' election wasn't true". This shows how the election affects everybody, celebrity or not. On not making an entire album about Donald Trump as some may have expected him to, he says "We're not focusing on him, we're focusing on self." At the end of this verse he says "Time passin', things change/Revertin' back to our daily programs, stuck in our ways". This challenges us to think of what we could be doing to change things. He says that if To Pimp A Butterfly was about the idea of changing the world, then DAMN. is about "how I can't change the world until I change myself".
LOVE. once again shows that Kendrick can connect his sometimes erratic train of thoughts in time to a catchy tune, and may be the most romantic song he has ever released. While the previous track asks 'love or lust?' this track is most definitely about the feeling of being in love.
XXX. featuring U2 is a contender for the best track on the album and shows off Kendrick's storytelling skills once again while he explores the issue of gun control in America by putting himself in another hypothetical situation. He leads us through a story in which he receives a phone call from his friend who tells Kendrick that his son has been killed and asks for advice, asking him to pray for him and show him the way, saying "I know that you anointed, show me how to overcome." But, instead of encouraging his friend to take the high road of forgiveness, K-Dot encourages him to seek revenge, telling him "If somebody kill my son, that mean somebody getting' killed." He then offers another mind-blowing contradiction in the form of him hanging up from this phone call to go and speak at a convention and we then hear a clip of him talking to kids about the importance of gun control.
FEAR. once again explores the human state, running through what Kendrick was most afraid of at the ages of 7, 17 and 27. As a child he was afraid of his mother, as a teenager he was afraid of the police, and, as an adult he was afraid of losing his new found success and riches. He lays all his fears and vulnerabilities out on the table, praying that "hopefully they disperse/within fourteen tracks, carried out over wax".
GOD. is another anthem with a hard hook, in which Kendrick compares the feeling of major success to the feeling of being God. This once again relates to the pedestal he has been placed on as the 'greatest rapper alive' while tying in with all the biblical references. Ironically, the release of this body of work has only led to even more people calling Kendrick the greatest rapper alive, with some saying it has definitely cemented his place in the rap hall of fame.
The album finally comes full circle on DUCKWORTH., in which Kendrick tells an incredible true story of a meeting between his father and Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, (CEO of TDE, Kendrick's label). The story tells how Top almost killed Kendrick's father in the past back when he was working at a KFC, which Kendrick has since confirmed to be a true story and says his father and Top Dawg discuss it all the time. He talks about how this would have impacted both them and himself, showing the fragility of human life and how just one decision could cause a ripple effect. The album then reverses and we hear the sound of Kendrick beginning to tell the story about the blind lady once again.
DAMN., like most of Kendrick’s work is most definitely an album that needs to be listened to multiple times in order to even begin to understand it, but it is also worth it.
