HPMAAW - Other people’s OCs
hosted by @endlessly-cursed
—
Roger Jr. ‘Rocky’ Weasley - Honestly, who doesn’t love Rocky? He’s just the sweetest little goober. And every time he pops up, he just manages to put a smile to my face <3 @magicallymalted
Olympia Alderly - I fell in love with her this Christmas largely because of @gaygryffindorgal’s Christmas Prince. She’s just so sweet, and strong and witty. I love her! And I’m sure I’ll fall even deeper in love the more I get to know her. Hope Quince won’t steal all the spotlight XD I demand moooooore!! Please.
Rosa Yaxley - Jupiter’s heart and soul and bold leader of the girl gang. Jupiter and her have such a sweet dynamic, I’m so glad @potionboy3 requested for them to be besties! I can’t wait for her to make it out of Annie’s dungeon and see what adventures they’ll go on together <3
Mikael Arcano-Thorne - My sweet nerd boy!! I mean I loved him before but when I found out that Daniel Jackson from Stargate low-key was the inspiration behind him, I died. I mean how can he be more perfect? He even has the Empyrian story going for him now. I can’t wait to read about him and his adventures!! @kathrynalicemc
James ‘Jimmy’ Crouch - Jimmy was exactly what I needed in my life. I craved a little drama and I got it when Annie and I decided to link Jupiter up with him. Drama aside, they’re just perfect together. And Jimmy is a really interesting character all by himself, with an even more interesting backstory. I adore him to death <3 And I, somehow, really enjoy writing him way more than I thought! He’s like grumpy cat—a little scary at first but I just want to hug him and take care of him @potionboy3
The Girl Gang aka Rosa Yaxley, Nymeria Lee, Pandora Lovelace @gcldensnitch, Barbara Katz, Tara Cruz @nelabelievesindragons, Gwendolyn Montague, Mary Ann von Deyne @endlessly-cursed
In all honesty tho, it’s so hard to choose when there are so many great characters roaming around this era! Especially, the girl gang. They all have my heart and I’m sooooo glad this has come to be. I really feel like they have made this era so much better and really got me excited about it. I’ve also gotten to know so many wonderful people through it! So this is me appreciating you all 💞💞💞💞💞💞 You and your girls rock!!
Some extra Girl Gang/Rosa love:

Currently at Alexandre Gallery in NYC are Neil Welliver’s gorgeous paintings and works on paper, spanning his career from the late 1960s-2000 and including his last woodcut print, Stump.
From the gallery’s website–
In his 2005 New York Times obituary, Ken Johnson wrote:
Mr. Welliver came of age as an artist in the late 1950’s and 60’s, at a time when nonrepresentational styles of painting like Abstract Expressionism and, later, Color Field and Minimalism were accorded the highest critical prestige. Along with artists like Larry Rivers, Alex Katz and Philip Pearlstein, Mr. Welliver strove to paint representational images without sacrificing the formal innovations that the Abstract Expressionists Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning had introduced to modern painting.
Welliver’s lifelong friend, the American poet Mark Strand, wrote of his process in 2001:
What sets Welliver’s woods apart from the woods of others is that they are, of course, his. We see them and know instantly who painted them. That stream plunging and swirling around those gray rocks is familiar, so are those clouds parading in ragged order across that sky spreading a midday blue over those hills. They are all part of Welliver’s woods. The unaffectedness, the ease with which they are simply there, without a hint of what went into their making, without an indication anywhere of the turmoil that prompted them, is what sets them apart. Of course, we can see the many brush strokes in a large Welliver and believe that they—in their tireless application—tell us what goes into a Welliver, but we would be wrong, for there is much in a Welliver that we cannot see. In the past of each one are the long hikes into the woods, which Welliver takes, loaded down with easel, canvas, brushes, oil, thinner, and tubes of color, to the spot where he will paint; then there are the hours he stands, in all kinds of weather, and paints what will be the small preparatory paintings on which he bases the large drawings that lead finally to the large paintings.
This exhibition closes 2/25/23.

Hunter - Rock 'N' Roll V.I.P. - Review
"Who Needs The Devil (When You're Already In Hell)" würde auch ganz gut zu AC/DC passen, bei diesem Song schaut man nämlich schon ziemlich stark nach Down Under, ist aber absolut legitim.

Purple Bells, Pigment Inks on Archival Paper, $52
I enjoy photography because it forces a different way of looking at the world. Nature photography requires that I be more tuned-in to the moment…watchful for opportunities of subject, color, and light to reveal themselves. Then it becomes a matter of being patient enough, lucky enough, quick enough, and skilled enough in using the tools (camera, lens, computer, etc.) to try to capture and frame images in a way that conveys something of what I’ve seen…perhaps just a documenting of paths that crossed or perhaps distilling some small wonder or simple beauty of the natural world.
Garden 9, Pigment Ink Jet, $325
Bill Hanson is a sculptor, photographer and painter. He began his art education while in high school in Newburyport, Massachusetts with the painter and muralist Richard M. Gibney. He studied at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1966 to 1970, where he majored in sculpture and earned a four year certificate. He currently lives in Philadelphia.
Garden 9 is part of an ongoing series of plant photography inspired by my love of the natural world. It recently showed in Artists in the Garden: PAFA at The Morris Arboretum, as well as the summer exhibition at MAAG. It began as a positive color digital photograph, then inverted to a negative in photoshop and further manipulated in color and tonality.
Sun Smiles, mixed media, $60
Two Handmade Fabric Bags, Bucket Bag $60, Shoulder Bag $50
Wake Up, Ink Jet On Paper, $40
I am inspired by nature and feel at peace and one in woodsy places like our natural reserves in Valley Green. While on hiking trails, I take pictures to archive the beauty and intriguing life of Mother Nature. I like to look close at nature’s designs on the planet or outside the planet. 75% of my work is about the circle of life. I am exploring many territories and I never know what I might create. At 21 years I am still learning about my life and how we are all connected to nature. I am intrigued by flowers, rocks, trees, water, elements of life and the forces in nature.
Contemporary Flying Geese
Contemporary Flying Geese, Quilt, $500
Outer Banks Sunset, Watercolor, $75
Misty Fjords, Alaska, ink jet print, $180
I have been a landscape photographer for 15 years. I have traveled widely in the United States and to other countries in search of the landscape. I particularly try to capture the details, the bits that are often overlooked.
Jay McClellan — www.jaymcclellan.com
White Dog, Ink on Paper, $150
In painting I examine the visual concept of “flat space” by moving objects back and forth on the canvas’s two-dimensional plane. Juxtaposing bold colors with graphic pattern and unique designs, my visual combinations excite my audience’s attention to the calm and earnest dogs that surround me in my everyday life. Indebted to modern and contemporary painters such as Alex Katz and Fairfield Porter, my large-scale paintings allow me to reveal the uniqueness of my family, which are primarily portraits of my dogs and my wife in our home. The calmness that it brings to me, and the happiness that they bring to me, I want to paint those ideas.
Greenhouse, oil on canvas, $250
As an artist, I show many sides, like Laura Palmer in David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks.” If you’ve seen the show or movie, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
My oil paintings typically show the brighter side of me, so they are vibrant. Inspired by Salvadore Dali, Andy Warhol and David Hockney, they are reminiscent of pools and theme/water parks. I like pop art, such as video game characters and movie scene satires, like what one may see in Mad Magazine — a woodcut of Gremlins taunting E.T., for example. I do this to amuse myself and others.
For prints, sculptures and drawings, the topics are usually psychological and deal with my dark side. Like the art of Edvard Munch and Toulouse-Lautrec, which typically involve illness and death, mine reflects upon social problems, trauma, despair, conflict and afflictions with a twist of sarcastic and dark humor. Currently, I am working on a hand drawn graphic novel, using Adobe Photoshop. It’s a dark story about a trip to Europe with conflicting morals and life styles.
Lee Muslin — www.LeeMuslin.com
Wherever you are is the entry point, mixed media collage, 24” x 18”, $195
Lee Muslin is an explorer constantly discovering new ways to create. She has an intuitive, organic approach to art making whether she is creating abstract paintings or mixed media collages. Transparency and layering plays a major role in all her artwork. Color, rhythm and texture are the supporting concepts. Lee’s collages usually start with a recycled photograph or photomontage as a base. Just a hint of the original may remain at the end of the process. A selection of found papers, fabric, fine art papers, tissue paper, transfers and acrylic paint are some of the ingredients that may be added bit by bit, like a puzzle, until the composition evolves. Creating something visually exciting from unrelated items, each with its own texture and dimensionality, is Lee’s challenge. Although the works are abstract, they may nevertheless imply the passage of time or suggest a landscape.
Figure Study, Charcoal on Paper, $150
The Mt. Airy Art Garage was initially Arleen’s goal to have a studio with other artists, a gallery, classroom and performance space and room to collaborate with other artists. This dream from 2009, with the tremendous partnership of her wife Linda Slodki and the support of the Northwest Community, has come to fruition.
Arleen is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, with a BFA in Painting from the University of Arts (then the Philadelphia College of Art). She is also a master in handcrafted leather accessories, which she has worked in for over 50 years.

The 70s Soul Jam: The Stylistics / The Manhattans / Harold Melvin's Blue Notes / Fred "Bugsy" Buggs / DJ Chuck Chillout
SummerStage at Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk continues on Saturday, August 3rd with a 70s Soul Jam featuring some of the decade's classic groups, revered by a generation of R&B fans and living on in the next as samples in hip-hop music. The Stylistics had a stunning run of top ten R&B singles out of Philadelphia in the early 70s, with some, such as "Break Up to Make Up" and "You Make Me Feel Brand New," cracking the top ten on the pop charts. The Manhattans (who hailed from Jersey City, NJ) formed in the 60s as a doo-wop group but were able to sustain success into the early 80s, winning a Grammy in 1981 for their R&B hit "Shining Star." Harold Melvin's Blue Notes got their start as The Charlemagnes in the 1950s, but didn't break out until the early 70s, when they brought in a young Teddy Pendergrass (first as a drummer, then as lead singer) and signed to Gamble & Huff's Philadelphia International label. Fred "Bugsy" Buggs and DJ Chuck Chillout will also take the stage. This free show is set to take place from 7 to 10PM. Doors open at 6PM.

VP Records 40th Anniversary: Elephant Man / Junior Reid / Estelle / Raging Fyah
It's been 40 years since Vincent and Patricia Chin set up VP Records in Jamaica, Queens; the success of that shop would prompt them to found VP Records, now one of the most important sources of reggae and dancehall music in the world. On Saturday, August 10th, VP Recordswill host a showcase in Central Park with some of its illustrious alumni: Elephant Man, whose 2003 hit "Pon di River, Pon di Bank" and collaborations with Wyclef Jean and Busta Rhymes helped further blur the lines between dancehall and hip hop; Junior Reid, the former Black Uhuru vocalist whose 1989 classic "One Blood" has spawned countless remakes and interpolations; Estelle, the genre-bending, Grammy-winning English singer best known for her Kanye West collaboration "American Boy" and now has her own album, Lover's Rock, with VP; and Grammy-nominated Raging Fyah, a five-piece band from Kingston, Jamaica that makes music bound to the roots rock reggae tradition. This free show is set to take place from 6 to 10PM. Doors open at 5PM.
