PLEASE tell me about The Terror Known as Hastin that sounds so cool
OOO okay! So The Terror Known as Hastin is a flashback story about young Jaks Snr. It's told through the lens of Jaks telling his romantic partner (pending) about how he discovered this lone island that he's taken her to for a romantic getaway.
It's very Jaws inspired. Basically, when Jaks Snr was around 15, and the civil war on Mandalore is starting up (again). Almost all of the able body beings on Marazi are being forced to join the war effort. Leaving the children and senior citizens on their own.
Jaks had taken up a few of his mother's duties to help out. One of the major concerns was a local Levithan (nicknamed Hastin) that had grown way too big and had gone into a rage due to some visiting Mandalorians destroying his egg by accident (leviathans only produce an egg around every 50 years, so big old Hastin was, for good reason, not happy).
Mandalorians were meant to take care of it. Helping to relocate the creature, but after accidentally killing a different Levithan of the same species, they were called away to the war effort. Leaving Jaks to handle the situation on his own.
In an attempt to anaesthetise and catch the beast, Jaks got on the Levithan's bad side. He was forced to kill it in self-defence but ended up stranded in the middle of the sea with a wrecked boat.
He eventually washed up on the edge of a floating island and was able to wait for help there. I don't know how to describe a floating island in the sea, but hopefully, this Subnatica art should give you an idea of what I mean.
Hastin himself is inspired by Sweetheart, a real-life Saltwater Crocodile. Who caused so much trouble for locals in the Northan Terrioty that they tried to relocate him but accidentally killed him in the process.

"I wish I wasn't so good at following orders." - Jaks Karaay Snr
You know that kid that was constantly praised for "being so well behaved for their age"? The one that always did as he was told. I think Karaay was one of those kids to an extreme degree.
Everything he did was to make his loved ones happy. Did well in school because it made his mother smile. Always agreed to help take care of the younger kids because he saw how it helped ease the stress on their parents.
Went into an active warzone to help Naree because he knew Uka would be heartbroken if anything happened to her.
Accepted the opportunity to run as Overseer because the former one was so eager for him to do so.
It's part of the reason he ended up marrying Jaks Jr's mother. She needed help, and that was the way to help her.
Karaay sent the first half of his life in total service to others. He was the 'reliable one'; you could always count on him to get stuff done. He would say yes to anything if he cared about you.
At least, this was how it was before Jaks' mother tried sending his son to the Jedi.
Something in his mind just snaps when the Jedi tell him they can't just give Jaks back. He probably would have accepted it if it had happened earlier in his life. Having your child be trained as a Jedi is a great honour to some people.
But Karaay had been continiuoiusly lied to, and made to feel like his thoughts on the matter didn't matter. As if he was some kind of minor roadblock in Jaks' mother's way.
It's at this point he starts doing things that he thinks will make him happy. Raising his son, not being an overseer, not forcing himself to love someone just because she's in a tight spot.
He still helps people. That will always be a part of him, but he also learns to start saying no.

There might be something poetic about Jaks Snr and Macaria both falling in love with people that don't make any sense for them.
Jaks Snr falls in love with a Killik Joiner. The man who has a crippling fear of bugs decides he wants to spend his life with a woman who is connected to a hivemind and spends most of her time hanging out in giant bug nests.
Macaria falls in love with a Mandalorian. The woman who loves spending time with her loved ones and who's fav time of the day is eating dinner with her whole family falls for a man who never shows his face and eats alone.
It's like a "it makes no damn sense! It compels me tho" thing for both of them. Very much a "like father like daughter" moment <3
