I wonder what (if?) jawnbie eats because it's never explicitly stated in canon.

part of this is obviously because base RDR doesn't include hunger/food mechanics. john never eats in base RDR (unless you count his jokes about abigail’s cooking)-- so specifying what he eats in the zombie DLC is irrelevant to the devs. but it's relevant to ME... I wanna know.

john is #notlikeotherzombies because he retains his soul after "dying". he obviously doesn't have the same eating habits as the other undead; he's a sentient zombie with seemingly no desire to eat the living.

but does jawnbie still need to eat to survive? does he have any appetite at all? does he crave flesh and/or brains now? does he need to consciously suppress cravings? does he need to eat brains? does he need to eat humans? can he sustain himself on animals instead? is he carnivorous now? are there "normal" foods that he can't/won't eat anymore? what are the consequences of eating the wrong thing / not eating at all? is it even possible for him (or other zombies) to starve to death?

I have... so many questions and so few answers.

logically i know that jawnbie has very little fan content because he has (proportionally) very little screen time compared to other characters in the red dead franchise... but consider the following:

hot take: if jawnbie really needed to eat human flesh to survive I think he'd just start cannibalizing people. I don't think he'd be happy about it, but he'd do it, if push came to shove.

though John has the capacity to be self-sacrificing for his family, he tends to prioritize his own needs whenever the rest of world is concerned. john will do just about anything to protect jack and abigail, but he's also willing to hurt anyone and everyone else to advance his own goals. (see: the entirety of the main campaign in RDR)

As a human, john can/will/does kill to keep himself safe. I don't think this aspect of his personality would change after he gets zombified.

If jawnbie absolutely HAD to choose between starvation and eating human flesh, I think he'd choose the self-preservation option.
