a collection of highlights and viewing notes from 'Fielding of Dreams' because I don’t have the time to liveblog while watching but I do have thoughts
for the first time in this random collection post series, this post is arguably all highlights because HOLY HECK THIS WAS GOOD!!!!!
exhibit A of why Oscar shouldn't have his own thoughts(tm): inexplicably adding sheep characters, only for it to backfire and generate 3 sub-plots that they do not have time to unpack XD
in a wild turn of events, one of Lauren's characters *doesn't* compliment Dave's character!!
"I mean, yes, he's tall, but I don't know what you see in him" - Lauren's character referring to Dave's character
quick, everyone! be a mermaid! *Dave starts doing body rolls*
this movie's fun because you can visibly see Dave just trying to make Matt laugh XD
like, the little arm waving Dave does at Matt before his character 'kidnaps' Matt's character (i.e., Dave scoops Matt up and carries him out of the scene, bridal-style XD)
and of course
"I am the sun, shining on the lake. TIS THE SOLSTICE! TIS THE SOLSTICE!" - Dave The Sun
yo Lauren being cheeky af is my new fave thing!!!!
"Get me my tequila" - Lauren, as a grandma to her pet sheep XD
gotta love Lauren getting away with stuff like suggesting her character's daughter and son-in-law have a shot of tequila before continuing their day, and Oscar not pausing at all LMAO
Lauren: Have a shot of tequila and say 'Parenting is hard!'
Laura: Parenting is hard! Cheers!
Dave: Slam slam slam! Parenting is hard!
evil power couple of Phil (Dave) and Ann (Bryony)!!!
Bry does such a smooth evil character voice - lulls you into a false sense of security, but it's the way the word 'darling' rolls off her tongue that makes you pause ya dig?
"Down here, down here with the gold, you can see your life ahead / Down here, down here with the gold, you can have the bobbles on your head!" - Dave
speaking of rhymes, Bryony being a rhyming wizard in the overlapping song!!!
"When you go above, people will roll out the red carpet / And my dear, if you think that's my only idea, I'm only just getting started" - Bryony, coming in with a freaking internal rhyme (dear/idea) AND rhyming 'carpet' with 'started'!!!!! queen shit!!!!
Bryony: They'll give you a crown and scepter / And will you be the best? Oh you betcha
watching several of these MMNIs has made me realise- if you ever want the plot to make sense or move forward in a way that makes sense as a real narrative, ya gotta let Bryony and/or Dave steer because both of them are most likely to stick to the plot/solve the plot problems in a way that makes sense and not in a down-the-rabbit-hole way like Shields lmao
MATT CAVENDISH YOU BLOODY BRILLIANT MAN
the Happy Here Reprise?!!?!?! so good?!?!!? the way he paused the song, got everyone to do that scene change and final note together??!?!?!? GENIUS
I could yell about Matt in this movie for a while so I'll just say that his little directions in the musical numbers throughout this movie were genius and I am totally 100% normal about them *visibly shaking*
bouncy excited Oscar/Jono at the end!!!!! <3
"I'm genuinely quite emotional!" - Oscar/Jono (me too, buddy, me too :') )

Situation-ship or relationship? Putting your feelings on the table can be daunting. But with Pinterest, it’s possible.
Why are inappropriate questions about women’s relationships socially acceptable?

I feel like one of the best methods socially to really combat Joanne Rowling's dominance in terms of the social cultural discussion around trans issues is to stop calling her by her preferred name, because JK Rowling is an informal name used in a professional manner meant to make people familiar with her. We all call her JK because that's what she wanted us to call her, that's the pen name she used that isn't a pseudonym, that is how fans know her, that is how people know her. If we stop taking that part seriously and informalizing her, and actually formally declare that she is a person who has responsibilities, simply by calling her Joanne Rowling, robbing her of that familiarity and making her unfamiliar to the people around her, it might, in a very small and stupid way, actually get people to take her and the threat she poses seriously.
You mean to tell me that a billionaire with the name JK is killing people? That's absurd, they sound really easy to talk to and down to earth, surely it's a big misunderstanding.
Holy shit Joanne Rowling, the Creator and head behind the entire Harry Potter franchise, is funneling money from that franchise into hate groups? That's very bad, this sounds serious.
The human brain is stupid, when we hear something informally or it's coded in an informal manner, we don't take it as seriously. It's why there's a difference in connotation between the names Matt and Matthew, it's why if a guy's name is jonathan, but he goes by either john, jay, Johnny and jono, each name has a different connotation in your head.
By robbing such a trivial agency from somebody who is quite literally expansive in power, who can absolutely counteract with the billions of dollars she has, you can recontextualize the conversation.
And remember this isn't like calling a trans person by their dead name, or misgendering a person, Joanne Rowling is a fucking billionaire, calling her by the wrong name is just par for the course. She's a public figure, scrutiny comes with the territory, and unlike dead naming a trans person, there's not a trauma tied to using Joanne as opposed to jk. A pen name is not a deadname, and if she's going to die on the hill of invalidating and hurting trans people, hell if she's going to die on the hill of killing them or trying to kill them legally through the bureaucracy of the British government, if that's the hill she's going to die on, I'm going to die on the fucking tiny pile of dirt that is calling JK rowling, Joanne.
It's Petty agency that really isn't agency. Fuck Joanne Rowling.
Fuck that stupid transphobe and her dumb pen name.

Back Market: Monster from Johnny Kelly on Vimeo.
Monster realises Monster is a monster.
We were commissioned by Back Market to tell this story to help encourage people to wean themselves off tech product launch cycles. We used a combination of live action puppetry, 2D facial animation and stop motion.
A lovely bunch of people worked on this, to name but a few: James Noellert designed the human characters. Andy Gent and his team made the puppets and some sets. Other sets were made by Aslyum. Previs and VFX adeptly handled by the beautiful brainiacs at Nexus. Full credits below——>
