"TENTO-‘san’?”

{Note: in the J.P.N version, Koushiro is known for speaking using polite/formal J.P.N speech since the start of the series, through to here and current media.} (Koushiro frequently uses the honorific ‘-san’ for most characters.) {Example: Taichi-san, Mimi-san, Hikari-san...} [In comparison, Koushiro uses ‘-kun’ for the (if slightly) younger-than-Koushiro 02 Chosen, which is also still polite/respectful in Koushiro’s case.] {Example: Daisuke-kun, Miyako-kun, Iori-kun...} (Mrs. Izumi using ‘-san’ is likely a reference to this fact - she’s basically asking Koushiro directly here, ‘It’s “Tento-san”, right?’ and the scene {and Koushiro’s nervousness and outright hesitance to correct her (or say anything!)} seems to imply she’s not really interested in taking ‘no’ for an answer... or maybe Koushiro just thinks its better to ‘keep it at that’.) {even Hikari giggles!}

(it is unknown if Koushiro ever told them directly about his Adoption. If he did, it’s never been shown on screen that Koushiro even discussed it; they also do not refer to any of the other Chosen knowing directly in any post series CD drama, {besides showing it through Koushiro’s own post-series track monologues} including 02 ones.) [However, 02 Chosen treat Koushiro & Mrs. Izumi pleasantly in this and following scenes, including by the ending of 02.]

when i first made this account in 2020, i was a continent away from home, experiencing one of the harshest lockdown in the world, and struggling to survive my master's studies. watching digimon was one of my solitude, so i decided to jump into the community while channeling my hobby of writing and designing. you know i was never a consistent poster (and had gone m.i.a. too often lol) so i didn’t expect 1k followers. but despite the numbers, the most important thing is i feel welcomed in this old-but-gold community. i also make friends and i hope to cherish this friendship even though maybe later on i will be no longer active on tumblr.

while i'm not the one who celebrates often, i tried to think of something. but with quite a little time, i cannot make something grand. so all i can do now is to share some digimon .png files i’ve used for some of my works. i had invested in cleaning up backgrounds and such, and i know how hard it is to find some good-quality images that are easy to tweak. so i hope this will come useful for the community :)

Enlightenmonth - Day 1-4: Friends/Family

Summary: Koushirou has gathered the courage to ask Hikari the question of questions - and is now facing the task to ask the other Yagami sibling an equally important one.

„She’s really rubbing off on you, isn’t she? Actually going home early? Who are you and what did you do to the real Koushirou?”

Koushirou couldn’t help but snicker at that commentary coming from the door of his office; Taichi was leaning against the frame all casually, waiting for his friend, work partner and future brother-in-law to pack up his things.

There was something soothing about the scene as well as his words, Koushirou thought – or rather, he tried to convince himself of that.

“I just thought it’d be nice to re-establish an old tradition”, he replied while shouldering his bag. They had been working on another presentation for a meet-up with the Japanese government, combining Koushirou’s most current research results on distortion tracking with Taichi’s recently conducted speech on “Benefits of positive promotion of Digital gate switching”.

In order to celebrate the finalization of their presentation, Koushirou had decided to invite Taichi to an after-work “beverage of choice”.

That had been his official wording at least, not mentioning the fact that there had been something else he had wanted to get off his chest…

“Oh, does that mean it’ll be your treat tonight?”, Taichi grinned while they left the office, stepping down the stairs of the office building. “Just like the old days?”

Another snicker – there used to be a time when they had gone out on late(r) night “dinners” much more frequently during their early days of university, eating and drinking out together with Yamato and Sora. Quite a while ago…

“Well, your paycheck should look a lot more comfortable than it did ten years ago…”, Koushirou teased back, causing Taichi to clutch his chest as if to pretend to have gotten shot.

“Oooof, that hurts.”

“But… I guess it’s the least I can do. And it really has been a while.”

Especially since he had proposed to Hikari a few weeks ago, after they had been together for over five years now. Taichi had been noticeably quiet since then – neither in the working nor in the usual bickering department, that was for sure. However, they hadn’t talked much about the engagement and Koushirou couldn’t prevent himself from wondering why that was the case.

Due to his relationship with Hikari, he had grown even closer to the entire Yagami family throughout recent years, which was a change he had thoroughly welcomed, now that they were in their early thirties, more settled, more ready to focus on other things in life than just work and Digital World affairs.

It hadn’t been easy, especially in their early twenties, when Taichi had begun to distance himself from basically everyone around him, including Koushirou – and it had taken a while for him to figure himself out again, daring to face his inner demons and allowing himself to open up to his loved ones again.

Koushirou had been thankful for that – between trying to figure out how to get their Digimon partners back and falling head over heels for the sister of his best friend, it had been hard to reconcile. And even though Taichi hadn’t exactly given him the impression that he was somewhat disapproving of him dating Hikari… Koushirou simply couldn’t shake the possibility that Taichi deliberately avoiding the topic now was a sign of him closing himself off again…

“Come on, what’s up?”, Taichi interrupted his thought process, making him realize that he must have been silent for a while himself now. “Something’s on your mind, isn’t it? Spill it, you’re an honorary Yagami now after all.”

Twilight had emerged already and Koushirou took a look at the purple sky over Odaiba, taking a deep breath. If only they had already been at the restaurant, maybe he could have used the additional time to collect his thoughts a bit better.

Koushirou Izumi was an honest person – heck, he could be incredibly blunt, even painfully so, when things were urgent, when he had to make use of his problem solving skills, facing illogical and difficult circumstances. Sharp, analytical, precise.

Nevertheless – when it came to his own feelings, regardless of how “illogical and difficult” they were, being honest was a lot more tricky. And in moments like these, he hoped that Hikari had actually been rubbing off on him. It had taken him months of preparation, tons of encouragement from Tentomon, several re-written proposals (and unused date-ideas by Mimi) to ask her the question of questions.

Her brother was an entirely different story right now.

“… Then you should know that, as an honorary Yagami, I do need to collect my own courage here and there.”

The words came out all naturally and he saw Taichi hesitating before opening the door to their favourite restaurant.

“Huh? That’s not like you at all though?”

There was a certain glimpse of worry in his voice and Koushirou didn’t like that – he had heard the same tone coming from Hikari countless times before, whenever he had been pulling allnighters or had – subconsciously – forgotten to eat properly. All those bad habits he had to face and fight, all the little steps he had to take towards opening up himself. For the sake of the people he loved and adored – and wanted to protect.

“…. And I like you better when you yell at me for misusing the goggles or bluescreening your computer.”

However – it was funny how easy it was for both Yagami siblings to make him smile and forget all his grim thoughts.

“You haven’t done that in years, so it doesn’t count”, he grinned, feeling a bit more light-hearted and so he went past Taichi through the door, straight to their usual spots, waiting for him to follow.

“You know what? You’re right, there’s no further need to dance around the topic any longer…”

Sitting at the table now, facing each other, waiting to order the first drink for the night, Koushirou looked straight at those hazel eyes in front of him, expecting him to spill the beans.

“Yeeeeah?”

Another deep breath followed, anticipation clearly audible in Koushirou’s voice when he finally made his proposal – the second one this year:

“Taichi-san, may I ask you to be my best man?”

Taichi just blinked a few times – then he sank deeper into his seat, sighed a deep sigh, followed by a bright grin of… Relief?

“… That took you waaaaay too long, man.”

“It was harder than asking for Hikari-san’s hand, to be honest”, Koushirou replied as if he was on autopilot, as these words were the ones he had been meaning to say for, indeed, way too long. Granted, he had been a million times more nervous when asking Hikari to marry him – but at least he had been more secure about her answer.

Which seemed to baffle Taichi just as much as it had him, as his eyes had just widened significantly before he eventually cried out loud:

“What?! Why, what did I do? Did you actually think I’d say no?!”

“It was at least a valid possibility in my head!”, Koushirou returned in the same manner, feeling cornered and even a little embarrassed – no matter how often he had been playing the potential conversation in his head, he couldn’t get around explaining it in a satisfying way. “You have been rather non-talkative about the whole topic and even though… I do know you’re not opposed to your sister becoming an Izumi, I couldn’t be a hundred percent sure you wouldn’t say no.”

“That doesn’t make any sense?!”, Taichi barked and Koushirou wished for a waiter or waitress to come to their table and give him some space to sort out his thoughts. Taichi on the other hand seemed very eager to get this straight – and suddenly, it bursted out of him completely: “Wait a minute, I sure as hell hope for you that you’re not holding me accountable for something I said, like, twenty years ago?! Man, I was twelve, I wouldn’t have let ANYBODY marry my sister, you should KNOW that!”

That statement made Koushirou blush even more in embarrassment – he couldn’t deny that a certain conversation had played a role in his thought process. Way back then, it had been a harmless joke between their friends right after they had left the Digital World for the first time, with Mimi having brought up the possibility of any of the Chosen Children dating each other. One of those possibilities had been Hikari ending up dating Koushirou – and even though he hadn’t even considered actively confessing to anyone at that time, a simple statement made by Jyou had been stuck in Koushirou’s head ever since:

“Wait a minute! If Hikari-kun was with him, you’re gonna end up being his older brother in the future, Taichi!”

“If that happened to me, I’d refuse!”, Yamato had snapped, causing Taichi to get all heated up and sour:

“Hey, are you picking a fight or somethin’?! Anyway, whatever. I wouldn’t allow their relationship anyway.”

“I am well aware that it sounds silly, that’s why I needed to clarify!”, Koushirou eventually confessed, silently cursing his splendid memory. This was not how he had wanted this exchange to go, even though he should have been able to predict it…

Leaning back into his chair, Taichi sighed once again, shaking his head.

“Koushirou, look. Our mom has accepted you into our family way before you and Hikari were even a thing and, honestly? If you hadn’t picked her, mom would probably have made me propose to you, just to have you as a part of the inner circle, I swear.”

Hearing that, now it was up to Koushirou to blink at Taichi; he had always been aware that Yuuko was doting on him, but he definitely hadn’t expected her to be that… Committed. Even more surprising to him was the fact that Taichi’s voice had calmed down more and more while elaborating; genuine eyes were facing him, giving him an expression of openness, amusement and… Warmth.

“Needless to say that I couldn’t ask for a better brother than you. In my book, you’ve always been an honorary Yagami, no matter what I may or may not have said when we were kids or whatever has happened years ago. Even if Hikari will take your name in the end.”

There it was again – the Yagami way, never failing to make Koushirou smile.

“That was incredibly cheesy, Taichi-san”, he said, a gentle laugh escaping his own throat, taking all the heaviness with it.

“Oh shut up, you’re the one who made this a problem in the first place! I was afraid you’d ask Mimi-chan or Sora or even Takeru to be your best man or woman or… Whatever…”

“Did you really?” Koushirou’s smile widened; if he read in between the lines correctly, Taichi’s main worry seemed to have been that Koushirou wouldn’t have picked him as his first choice. So the reason why he had been quiet about everything was probably that he had felt… Left out. Now he felt even more silly – they had never been the best at talking about their feelings with each other, but all of this was almost too ridiculous to be true. “Takeru-kun is already occupied as Hikari-san’s secondary bride’s maid, right after Miyako-kun.”

“I guess I should have seen that coming, huh?”

The smile simply refused to vanish from Koushirou’s lips now; Hikari had encouraged him to finally ask Taichi, pushing him to take the step himself… Now he was pretty much certain that she had just intended to nudge him towards losing all his second-guessings with “exposure therapy”. And she had probably known all along – proving once again that he had placed his affections correctly.

“Taichi-san, I always intended to ask, it couldn’t have been anyone else but you, so I shouldn’t have… Doubted.”

“Glad to hear that”, Taichi chuckled, finally waving at a waitress passing by. “Soothes the fatal wound a bit.”

“I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”

“So… Your treat then?”

Never before had Koushirou craved for a drink more than in this moment. Not to play down any uneasiness or cover up the silence – but to truly and genuinely celebrate the occasion with his future brother-in-law.

“Definitely my treat then.”

Camp Digimonth goal announcement

First of all, a happy New Year to each and everyone of you! Cheers to a wonderful year full of old and new friendships, sparkles and loooots of new fandom content.

Talking about fandom content, this month it's Camp Digimonth which is the perfect event to start creating new content for the Digimon fandom and family! So let's continue with goal announcement.

For this @campdigimonth I...:

... will be working on -and hopefully publish, which is the actual goal by the 31st of January- the third chapter of my Taiora (and background Koukari) centered fic Sway with me. Read the first two chapters on FFN or AO3. Sway with me is an AU with lots of dancing about connection and chemistry.

... will be drafting some small scenes and passages and do some further outlining for a new (partially) canon compliant Taiora-project. This project got sparked during discussions in the Taiora Discord server and I will use both this server and a recently found outline/timeline application to draft some writings. I will work on this project for a maximum of 2 hours in the weekends.

... will be drafting some Astrology analyzing for my Digimon Astrology Journey series (Yamato/Jyou and Hikari/Takeru).

The idea is to at least work on two out of three of these points during the month January. I'm excited! Any questions on either of the three projects? Don't hesitate to contact me ^^

Enlightenmonth Day 13-16: Plants / Animals

Ok ok ok no drabble today but because I already have some headcanons for animals and these characters, and also some drabbles about Koushirou and animals.

Sora loves cats and Koura is my favorite friendship so this will be relevant (keep in mind).

My friend @chierocurissu has the headcanon that eventually Koushirou gifts Hikari her “third cat” (Miko – Gatomon – third cat) and I’ve always loved this headcanon, even if from a friendship point of view.

So from this headcanon I assumed that he also gifted Sora her cat, or well maybe she kind of just kept it, or maybe he wasn’t strong enough to resist her love for the cat and kind of gifted it to her. This cat will be called Piximon because his meow sounds like a “Piii”, and it will take Yamato some adjusting but he will eventually come to adore the cat. The cat however adores only Sora, Hikari, Ken and Koushirou, mostly, and Sora and Yamato’s kids. He’s white with a brown tail and a black dot on his head. (This is relevant because Piximon the cat is a main character in my fanfics).

So the thing is that then Koushirou didn’t have a cat and he kind of wanted one. So my next headcanon and drabble was that he discovered a cat watching him every day and eventually he let it in and named him Whamon. Now Mimi who is his best friend wasn’t amused because in my headcanons she doesn’t like cats, but she did mention that Whamon was a girl. So Koushirou named her Whamona. Quick thinking there Koushirou, keep it up.

So now we need a fourth cat for Hikari and a third cat for Koushirou (Piximon – Whamona), which will be their first joint cat HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THIS. They will call her Enigma because Koushirou will gift her to his personal enigma and he will not be able to understand any of his Enigmas (I’m crying) and he will cherish forever those that defy his understanding of the world.

Enigma is a tortie girl and Hikari will immediately recall the legend by which tortie cats where originally black cats, but once the Sun wanted to visit the Earth and asked a tortie cat for her body to hide. The Sun asked the Moon to stay on his place but the Moon kind of forgot and left, and the Sun left the tortie cat in a hurry to retake his place, and by doing so he left his rays of Light behind and that’s how tortie cats came to be CAN YOU BE MORE KOUKARI.

So now they live with Miko, Gatomon, the Third Cat, Whamona and Enigma (it’s never too crowded with cats).

I also have fanfics about Ken adopting his cat and taking it to Miyako.

Izzy and Kari Friendship

Basically, it started because they were both always sighing over Tai being a doofus

(I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again---I don’t love him for his brain)

Then it was because neither of them have ever really slept well (much to Tentomon and Gatomon’s dismay)

Eventually it just sorta... happened!

They would keep tabs on each other and message each other to go to bed and get some sleep

Kari even recommended some nice recordings of her cat purring for him to fall asleep easier

(It didn’t work, but that’s okay, the gesture was nice)

Sometimes, if they went on a trip with Tai and the Takaishida boys, you could find them asleep on each other’s shoulders in the back of the car while Tai talked Matt’s ear off and T.K. pretended not to be jealous

If Kari had some sort of medical emergency, she always called Izzy first because he was less likely to panic and more likely to know what was happening, unlike her brother

To return the favor, if Izzy ever got sick because he’d been working too hard (which happened at least once or five times), Kari would take care of him

It was a cute pseudo-sibling relationship, and sometimes Tai pouted that Kari had too many brothers until she told him he was her favorite

That made him feel better

Took me a little while, but here it is!!! Thanks for the challenge!

It was the first night Koushiro spent outside his apartment ever since they had returned from the Digital World. Needless to say, he felt weird. Sure, he had spent countless of nights with the Yagami siblings, but this was his very first normal sleepover. His mom was nervous, too, and made sure he took enough food for a week, by mere education. She thought, what if a computer decided to swallow the children again? And when could she even find out? But she didn’t want to be an overprotective mother, so when Koushiro asked for permission, she agreed.

And he was supposed to had fallen asleep exactly an hour and fourteen minutes ago, when Taichi had said ‘goodnight’, but he couldn’t make himself fall asleep. He felt odd, not like he missed his parents and had to sleep on his bed to have a good sleep, the futon they had arranged for him was comfortable enough. He didn’t have anyone, or anything to blame, but himself.

Perhaps a glass of water would help him fall asleep, perhaps it would only make him want to pee. Nevertheless, it was better than staring at the dark ceiling. He made sure he wasn’t noisy when he left Hikari and Taichi’s room for the kitchen, and he took his laptop with himself. Perhaps he could use his insomnia to speak with Gennai.

What he never expected was for Hikari to join him in the middle of the night, he would be lying if he said he didn’t scream a little when he saw her reflection next to him.

“I’m so sorry I woke you up, it was never my intention,” he apologized.

“You didn’t.” The light from his laptop was all the illumination they had, but he could still repair on Hikari’s smile. A sweet one, never showing her teeth. “I never managed to fall asleep in the first place.”

“Would you want a cup of tea?” Koushiro had totally forgotten he wasn’t even in his apartment, he decided to blame it on the lack of sleeping.

“I don’t enjoy tea, Koushiro, I’m only 10! That’s adult stuff,” he felt silly, maybe Koushiro had to stop hanging out with his mom and her friends every time they visited his apartment.

“I do like tea, though…” he admitted, and was grateful she couldn’t see him blushing. At least Taichi wasn’t with them to mock him.

“Because you have the wisdom of a 100-year-old man,” Hikari turned on the kitchen light, as she served herself milk. Koushiro had grown a couple inches in the past year, yet he felt like Hikari was shrinking. She was so small. “Milk is more fitting for me,” she placed a cup of tea in front of him, what was supposed to be a slumber party with Taichi had turned into a late-night interview with Hikari. He never though she could have so many questions about the internet and its connection to the Digital World.

“It’s still a mystery to me why or how we were chosen, and how we got to maintain our bodies there, but I’m researching…”

“You always are. I’m sure one day you’ll solve the mystery.” Her smile always felt like it was hiding something, Koushiro thought. As if this 10-year-old girl knew all the answers he was seeking.

Hikari’s cat must have woken Taichi up, because he was holding her as he faced both in the living room.

“Very rude you decided to continue the party without me. Get your own friends, Hikari!”

“Koushiro is also my friend!” she poked her tongue out at him, as Taichi took a seat between his sister and best friend and made the conversation more casual, even normal.

Yet Koushiro couldn’t stop wondering what was Hikari hiding? And why was she a mystery far more interesting than the Digital World?

Pairing: Koushiro x Hikari

Summary: They loved each other's smiles. Those were what they feared losing the most. Birthday gift for my friend SkuAg. (Koukari with mentions of Sorato)

Koushiro had seen Hikari smiling many times. Those smiles were as beautiful as her, irradiating sweetness wherever she went. Koushiro couldn't take his eyes from her whenever she smiled; that sight filled him with deep joy. However, her smiles didn't remain the same over time.

They used to be broader, shown with an open mouth, many times followed by a laugh. Her eyes shone in those pure moments of happiness.

But as she grew older, her smiles became smaller. Timid.

He didn't know when the shift had happened, nor why it occurred. Maybe it had something to do with growing up. Maybe she wasn't happy anymore. To see her like that brought him immense pain.

What could Koushiro do to see her old large smiles again? What could he do to make Hikari happy once more?

Koushiro barely smiled in the first years of their friendship. He was too shy, too insecure, too nervous around her. It took her some time to realize that he needed a reason to smile, something that sparked his interest.

Hikari made him questions, then. Questions about any and everything. What were rainbows made of? What was energy? What were waves? His eyes lit like stars in the night sky and he grinned while explaining. She didn't really understand much of what he said, but it didn't matter. To see him like that brought her immense joy.

But then, at some point in her adolescence, Hikari became more ambitious. She was no longer satisfied with only his smiles. Hikari wanted Koushiro in his entirety.

However, the boy only seemed to be interested in his mysteries. The girl began to believe that he would never notice her feelings for him.

Hikari, Daisuke, Miyako, Takeru, Iori and Ken had gone to the Digital World to solve a small crisis. They emerged through Koushiro's computer, in the redhead's bedroom.

Izumi Yoshie treated them to hot beverages and snacks. Soon, they were ready to go. Ken would spend the night with Daisuke, Takeru would go with Miyako and Iori to their building.

"I can walk you home, Hikari-san." Koushiro offered.

"That's kind of you. Thanks." She replied, showing him a smile so tiny that it was almost unnoticeable.

Snow was gently falling on the people walking on the streets that night. There was a crowd there, hurrying to buy gifts on that December 23rd.

Hikari looked with melancholy at the Christmas decorations around them. There weren't as many lights as she would have liked. She wondered about going to other places to see them. But would Koushiro agree in accompanying her? That seemed like something a couple would do.

Hikari thought about Sora and Yamato. The older girl had confessed to the boy almost one year before. They had been a happy couple ever since. Hikari didn't want to be envious of Sora, but couldn't avoid it. Sora had been brave in a way Hikari wasn't sure she could.

What would she do if Koushiro rejected her? Would she lose him completely? If that happened, would he still smile at her?

Hikari didn't want to let that happen. If his smiles were all she could have, she wouldn't risk losing them.

Koushiro felt his heart getting heavier as he observed Hikari's gloomy expression that night. Not even timid smiles were being offered by her. He couldn't bear to witness her unhappiness any longer.

"Hikari-san, would you like to do something?" He asked. "We could eat or-"

"We've just eaten." She interrupted him. "Are you hungry again?"

"N-Not really…" Koushiro muttered, glancing up to the falling snowflakes. "I just… thought it'd cheer you up…"

"I'm not upset." She told him.

"Yes, you are." Koushiro said, looking at her once more. "You've been upset for some time now, haven't you? Ever since we met, it's like you've been getting increasingly sadder…"

The answer to Hikari's mystery came to him in that moment.

"Is it because of me?" He asked in a pained voice. "Am I the one who is upsetting you?"

How could he ask that? How could he think that?

Hikari felt her heart breaking at the sight of Koushiro's sorrowful expression.

"I'm so sorry, Hikari-san!" He apologized. "I don't know what I did wrong, but… I never wished to hurt your feelings! If there's anything I can do… i-if you want me to leave you alone…"

That last sentence propelled Hikari to reach out to him and grab his hand.

"You don't upset me!" She assured, feeling her eyes getting warm. "It's the opposite!"

"The opposite…?" Koushiro asked, not understanding.

"Koushiro-san, I…" She hesitated for a moment. However, Hikari knew that she couldn't let her fear control her anymore. She couldn't let her beloved be hurt over a misunderstanding.

"I'm in love with you, Koushiro-san." Hikari confessed.

It took some time for the information to click. Hikari loved him, but how could she? She was kind, sweet, brilliant, beautiful… what was Koushiro compared to her? How could he be worthy of her?

He should remind her of how many people were more deserving of her love than him, but something in his heart didn't allow him to do that. The feelings that he had avoided thinking about flooded his mind. When he opened his mouth, Koushiro said something unplanned and completely sincere:

"I'm in love with you as well, Hikari-san."

Upon hearing that, she smiled largely like in the old times. Somehow, that smile was even more beautiful than all the others he had seen. That sight made him feel warm inside, despite the cold weather. He felt like crying. Nevertheless, he smiled too.

"Hey, Koushiro-san…"

"Yes?"

"Would you like to see the Christmas lights with me?"

"I'd love to do that, Hikari-san."

Flowery facts

“Aren’t they pretty?” Sora said as she looked over the field with flowers, eyes beaming with joy.

Sora grew up in another kingdom where her mother was the gardener of the royal palace. One day Hikari and her brother had accompanied their parents to the other kingdom for a quite formal state visit. Hikari was still very young and couldn’t remember much, though the thing she could remember best was Sora and the way she had taken care of Hikari during their visit. Ever since that time Sora had been like a sister to her and it truly warmed Hikari’s heart.

It had warmed Taichi’s heart as well.

Every time their parents told them they were visiting the adjacent kingdom, Taichi was the first one screaming to tag along. Mom and dad thought he had a crush on princess Mimi, but it was Sora Taichi was interested in. Prioritizing his duty over his feelings, feeling obligated to marry a princess, Taichi kept those feelings hidden for everyone including Sora. Instead their bond blossomed into a strong friendship, the secret romantic feelings for his beloved Sora always with him as both a burden and a blessing.

It wasn’t until Mimi was married of to Taichi that he started protesting against the obligations. Luckily for him, Mimi had fallen in love with the royal musician so she protested too, but with no luck. Mimi who was friends with Sora as well, asked Sora to protest against the wedding by telling she had fallen in love with Taichi, and would be here to win him over. To everyone’s surprise and without any hesitations, Sora had said yes.

Suspicions rose and Mimi informed Taichi with the convenience of which he packed his backs and courage to travel to the other kingdom only to confess to Sora in the middle of a beautiful flower field. He had repeated random facts about different flowers he knew she loved, leading up to the moment of him confessing. All Hikari knew was that Sora had been speechless at first, but after overcoming the first shock (“but I thought I had to be the one to confess…”), she had answered him with a sweet kiss on the lips, making them fall right into the flowers. The rest was history and Hikari always swooned by the romantic image of her brother and her sister-in-law. If only she—

“Did you know the different colors of the Tsubaki* all have a different meaning?”

“Ah, adviser Izumi-san!” Sora said.

“Sorry for the interruption,” his voice sounded like a whispering song to Hikari. “And please, call me Koushiro, your Highness,” he bowed ninety degrees.

“And you know you can call me Sora, Koushiro-san,” she winked. “Oh and stop the bowing!” She waved with her hand to make him stop. Hikari chuckled, Sora hated all the formalities, just like Taichi. Hence why both of them took every opportunity to just be normal people safely between the walls of their castle.

“My bad, Sora-san.” He corrected himself before turning to Hikari, sweetly nodding in her direction. Hikari’s throat turned dry a little.

“Better. Anyway, I didn’t know you held an interest in flowers?” Sora smiled, one eyebrow raised showing her genuine interest.

Hikari had been quiet all this time, unable to say anything, watching their conversation flow. Her mind, however, was with Koushiro, wondering if he too had memorized facts about flowers. Hikari’s heart skipped a beat, her cheeks showing a pinky blush.

“I have an interest in knowing and learning as much things as I can. Flowers, however, are dearly to me. They remind me of my parents, you see…”

As Koushiro rambled on about the meaning of specific flowers, Sora nodded along with his sayings, every now and then chiming in. Hikari could only watch and listen, seeing and hearing the two persons she (secretly) admired so much. Sora looked at her between Koushiro’s ramblings, then the castle’s bells ringed.

“You know what?” Sora said, standing up abruptly grabbing Hikari’s wrist and pulling her to her. “You can tell princess Hikari-chan here everything about flowers! If you’ll excuse me, I have to check on my husband.” And without further ado she left Hikari and Koushiro behind.

Hikari gasped, her face heating up with a speed she couldn’t fight against. She hoped Koushiro would break the ice, but he looked a little panicked, so she shook her head and swallowed hard, trying to be bold like a true Yagami.

“W-What do you think of red roses, Koushiro…-san! Koushiro-san?”

It was the first flower that came into mind and of course it had to be the most romantic one. Her eyes grew wide, staring at Koushiro waiting for him to tell her it was an off question. But he didn’t, instead he smiled that smile she adored so much and Hikari swooned away upon seeing it, her heart making a somersault.

“I think they’re quite romantic.” A blush arose on his cheeks matching her own rosy ones. She herself mimicked his smile with one of her own. “Care to show me the red roses, Hikari-san?”

Like a real gentleman he offered her his arm and Hikari linked her arm with his, wanting nothing more than to show him the red roses and listen to all the flowery facts he could share with her.

Why I’ve come around on Koumi

I feel like talking about Koumi for a moment.

The thing my 3 primary OTPs for the Digimon Adventure universe (Taiyama, Jyoumi, Koukari) have in common is that I strongly believe the two characters in question understand each other or have a strong potential to understand each other.

When I first saw Tri, I was very annoyed that it looked like they were going to make Koushiro x Mimi a thing. I strongly believe the two would not understand each other, and the way they fought in Tri only furthered this belief.

However, I then did my Koumi/ Taiyama parallels post and realized that the reasons Koushiro and Mimi argue are actually similar to the reasons behind why Taichi and Yamato argue. Upon realizing that, I began to look at the dynamic between the two in a different way.

When it comes to relationships I do not think that a couple needs to always get along, or always have the same views on a situation. I think it’s important that you surround yourself with people who think differently from you because that is how you learn and grow as a person. It’s completely normal for you to fight with people, whether it be friends, family or lovers. What is crucial though is that you talk it out and learn to understand where the other person is coming from, and hopefully come to a happy medium, or in some cases agree to disagree.

Part of the reason I was a Jyoumi shipper was because I feel like the two grow to have a natural understanding of each other. This, in my opinion, is highlighted in their interactions during the Dark Maters Arc, as well as in Ketsui (Determination). I think that is part of why I disliked Koumi so much, because the two are not shown to have a natural understanding of each other and get into fights. Again though, once I started working on my Koumi/ Taiyama parallels post, I realized it was unfair to compare Jyoumi to Koumi as the pairings have a completely different dynamic, and not all relationships need to be built the same in order to work. So, I started looking for evidence in canon that could indicate that Koushiro and Mimi could learn to understand each other, the same way Taichi and Yamato did in Adventure, and are still learning to in Tri.

Not surprisingly I have found evidence of this.

Prior to Tri there isn’t a lot of interaction between the two, but episode 10, in my opinion, does show that Mimi can learn to understand Koushiro. I think Mimi learns that when Koushiro gets overly invested in his computer it’s not because he doesn’t care. Also, she likely realizes that Koushiro’s obsession with finding and decoding information can be useful, it’s the reason she is able to escape the maze after all. In addition, a lot of people seem to overlook the fact that Mimi is actually very patient with Koushiro at the beginning. When he says he wants to decode the writing on the wall she politely sits down and waits for him. She doesn’t get mad at him until she’s been sitting there patiently for who knows how long and he doesn’t respond to her when she directly asks him questions. I’d be annoyed too if someone was ignoring me.

Moving into Tri, their first argument is in Ketsui (Determination), wherin Koushiro reprimands Mimi for her actions, calling her selfish. This statement from Koushiro causes Mimi to reflect on her behavior and how it affects others. This means Mimi actually does take Koushiro’s opinions to heart and values them instead of just dismissing them. This is very important because it is one of the most crucial components to a relationship. If someone values the opinions of others it means they are open to those opinions, this creates the potential for open dialogue between the pair which eventually leads to understanding and fewer arguments.

Furthermore, we see that neither Mimi nor Koushiro hold grudges. Koushiro still comes to see Mimi at her cafe and does not seem mad at her, and Mimi greets him with a smile showing no signs of discomfort or anger. This also carries over into Kokuhaku (Confession) wherin Mimi is shown coming to clean up Koushiro’s office and bring him Oolong Tea despite the fact that they had a fight earlier in the movie. This is also crucial because it means there won’t be hostility from past arguments that carries into the future of the relationship, but also that their arguments will likely resolve themselves relatively quickly.

So, I do think that Mimi and Koushiro have the ability to come to an understanding of each other, and that if they were to enter into a romantic relationship it’s very possible that it would be successful. That doesn’t mean it would be without it’s arguments, or that it wouldn’t take a ton of work, but that’s okay, and very normal.

This isn’t the only reason I’ve come around on it though. The more I began to think about this pairing, the more I realized Tri has given me other reasons to think these two could work.

When Mimi is first mentioned in Tri it is Koushiro who brings her up, suggesting that they invite her to Taichi’s game. Based on the fact that he knows it’s likely she could come and thinks to message her, indicates to me they are in constant communication, which means they likely have a good report. Plus, Mimi messages him back right away, to his surprise, which means she likely prioritizes him. Later on, we see the same thing happen between Sora and Taichi, with Sora messaging Taichi back right away, to his surprise. In my opinion, this could be Tri’s way of saying that Koushiro and Mimi’s friendship is on the same level as Sora and Taichi’s. Now I’m not saying that just because Koushiro and Mimi are good friends it means they could be a good couple. I think we can all agree though, that if you can’t maintain a good friendship with someone then you definitely can’t maintain a good romantic relationship with that person. So, the fact that Mimi and Koushiro appear to be able to maintain a good friendship despite the geographical distance is a bonus in their favour.

Furthermore, I love that Tri showed that Koushiro is not blind to Mimi’s faults. Not only is he aware that Mimi is not perfect, he is fully willing to reprimand her when she does something he feels is wrong. He actively speaks his mind against her and that’s incredibly important. I have a huge problem with relationships where one character worships the ground the other one walks on, is blinded to their faults or is too afraid of losing them that they never speak their mind. Tri plays out Koushiro to be the awkward geek, and I don’t much like the way he freaks out over her hotness, but they do not make him out to be passive in the relationship. If they were to enter into a romantic relationship and he didn’t want to do something she asked him to do, he would actively say so. Plus, he doesn’t appear to like Mimi because he thinks she’s flawless, Tri makes it seem like he likes her despite the fact that he knows she is not. He also makes her aware of this, which could help her become a better person.

Finally, Tri shows that Mimi is good motivation for getting Koushiro out of the office once and while so he can have fun. He comes to see her at the school festival after all, and of they were dating I’m sure she’d encourage him to get out.

Is Jyoumi still my OTP for Mimi, yes. Is Koukari stil my OTP for Koushiro, absolutely. But, overall, I think Tri has shown me that Koumi could make a successful couple.
