Blood stained lovers
Its been a hot minute since I've made any art of my vtmb ot3 but ever since @badass-at-cuddling shared a post of tender bloody hand holding and tagged them as LaCroix/Nines/Ming Xiao I knew I had to draw it. I didn't quite mean to give them bloody halos but I thought it was a fun feature since in my ot3 AU verse they do become quite important figure of LA when it comes to taking back the freestates and they did certainly had to bloody their hands to do it!

Friend! Clanswap time! Imagine both LaCroix and Nines were Hecata, maybe like, LaCroix as a Giovanni and Nines as a Lamia. Obviously, as a very important necromancer, LaCroix would need to have Extremely Buff ghosts to flank him at all times. If he could have the ghost of anyone in the world to be his bodyguard(s), who would he choose? What ghosts would Nines hang onto? How would he feel/deal with the Lamia ability to make people sick? Imagine Nines and LaCroix having the ghosts fight each other like a weird ghost Pokemon battle. Ming Xiao comes out of a fast food joint with her bag of chicken nuggets and sees this ghost Pokemon fight. How would she react (especially if she was dating one or both of them)? What does Ming Xiao think of this Western necromancy?
I can't decide if the spice would be more delicious if LaCroix was Giovanni or Cappadocian. The Lamiae are supposed to protect the Clan of Death. Would Nines extra-despise Giovanni!LaCroix because the Giovanni betrayed Cappadocious? Would he feel torn because he some part of him wants to protect Cappadocian!LaCroix? Or maybe he instinctually wants to protect all Hecata members, regardless of Clan origin. Which do you prefer or is there another emotional quagmire to explore here?
Enjoy the brain teaser! :D
@badass-at-cuddling oh man this is a brain teaser but a very fun question to ponder on XD
I love the idea of LaCroix being a Giovanni and Lamia!Nines and against all odds falling for each other! XD Maybe what makes it easier for Lamia!Nines to want to be with Gio!LaCroix is the fact he is disgraced and likely excommunicated himself from the family for either his failures (LaCroix being a little too ambitious for his own good again! XD) or to get away from the family, cause ya know the Giovanni are fucked up!
But I do find that Cappadocian!LaCroix would be interesting, though he'd hate he likely looks really dead after 200 years XD and Nines would be moved to protect him, despite how annoying he is XD Maybe by the time of V5 Nines might be more willing to protect any Hecata members because of how vulnerable they are and its what he was embraced to do.
As for what kind of ghost LaCroix would have as his bodyguard(s), hmm Idk if you mean a real dead person or from the wod, so I'm going to say that they have to be at least similar in power as the sheriff is in vtmb, basically a strong and versatile fighter. (sorry I don't know too much about wraith XD) I'd also imagine LaCroix would want to have some wraiths who could also scout and spy for him as well, useful for him to get the upper hand on his enemies.
As for Nines coping with his clan weakness with making any mortal sick from a deadly disease, I think he would only feed from people he thought deserved to suffer such a fate, otherwise I think he would stick to drinking from blood bags until he got too old to do it.
Now for Wraiths, I think Nines would make sure he'd have a good variety of wraiths, ones that do actually want to hang around him, they like to give him advice, especially in his dating life! XD
Oh man, I love the idea of LaCroix and Nines having a Pokemon ghost battle in the parking lot of a freaking chicken and Ming Xiao steps out with her chicken nuggies and just gives the heaviest of sighs, cause her Cainties boys at are it again! XD
As for what Ming Xiao thinks about Kindred necromancy compared to Kuei-jin, I have no real idea tbh, I don't have all the Kindred of the East books, but honestly I doubt Ming Xiao would like how the Giovanni collects and uses wraiths even if she can appreciate their ruthlessness, it might be a step too far for her. She might be more alright about the other clans/bloodlines that use necromancy, but I'm not sure. Though she might be curious to learn more when she can.
This was a heck of a brain teaser, and it was really fun to think on it, so thank you for the ask :D

The anarchs are not the “good guys” on vtm, there’s no good guys. China town definitely is a step down but the parallels between the Kuei-jin and the vampires are interesting. Ming Xiao is no different from Lacroix or Jack.
while I more or less agree with most of that (Ming bad, anarchs not "good"), i definitely think the game goes out of its way to -- at least on a first play through -- really push you toward trusting Jack and generally liking the anarchs.
first of all, just an anecdote from my playthrough, I went to the beach in Santa Monica and I talked to the psychic lady. She tells you a bunch of stuff you don't understand yet about "going to china" and "don't open it", but she also says there are only two people you can trust: jack and mercurio. And yeah. Those are basically the only two people in the game who don't really judge you regardless of your decisions.
Jack also is very clearly meant to come across as the "freebie" character that you don't have to worry about. He leads you through the tutorial, he doesn't get mad when you sell out Nines, and he doesn't even really seem to give a shit who you side with. He just kind of gets that it's an impossible situation.
So I don't know, while I think Jack is a pretty flawed character (especially in regards to the way he feels about the Kuei-Jin), it doesn't really seem like the game itself thinks he's a flawed character, if that makes sense. Him and Nines and the anarchs are positioned mostly as "guys who are fighting the power" which, while not making you "good" automatically, certainly makes you more sympathetic, especially in a game so steeped grungy 2000s punk culture.
But yeah. It's an ImSim, of course there's no good guys, that would be super lame. My problem was that they both had an OBJECTIVELY bad faction to side with in the form of the Kuei-Jin and also handled it in what I would consider to be a racist and immature way and I think that's just kind of boring. Of the three "side with someone" options, you can side with the bourgeois guys but this is a grungy 2000s punk goth aesthetic vampire game why on earth would you do that? You can side with the Kuei-Jin who kill you in a cutscene which is just a boring way to resolve that arc, I'm sorry. Or you can side with the "fight the power" guys. I don't know. Yeah, they're not the "good guys", but the game definitely is pointing you in a specific direction here.
But again, that's not even really my problem with the Kuei-Jin. There's nothing "wrong" with having a sneaky, conniving faction who backstab you in a game like this. That sort of thing actually fits right in. My problem was that they had the sneaky, conniving faction be built so heavily on racist tropes of the "untrustworthy Chinese" and had everyone else in the game be inherently biased against them. Whether a player perceives this as "racist writing" or not, it's certainly not interesting writing.
In a game where you the player are constantly being used as a pawn for the anarchs and the bourgeois faction and constantly lied to by everyone, I found it kind of unsatisfying that the group which is so clearly "racially Othered" (to say that in the most pretentious way possible) is not only discriminated against, but is, by the logic of the game, CORRECTLY discriminated against. I thought the game was all about fighting the power and being a punk! Having a story present and then affirm racist stereotypes is the least punk thing of all time!
Anyway, sorry for responding with a fucking essay hahahaha. I loved the game, it just lost me at the end when I felt like the writing shifted from "fight the power" to "don't trust the Chinese" 🫥
Thanks for the ask :) have a nice day

been thinking a lot about vtmb. it's occurred to me that if you're immortal, you're probably gonna need at least a single hobby if you don't wanna go insane from boredom, so here's my thoughts on that so far:
jack seems like the kinda guy who'd get way into blacksmithing/woodworking and stuff to that effect. partially based on vibes, but i could also see it serving a practical purpose as a vampire. kinda doubt you could just go to any old store and buy a silver knife to protect yourself from a werewolf with, or a wooden stake.
this literally just came to me in a dream and i'm not entirely sure how accurate it'd be, i think nines rodriguez might be like, weirdly into needlepoint? seems as good of a way to kill time as any, i suppose. in my dream he made a little picture of a cat with it. also, given how his name seems to be a reference to the guns he carries, maybe he's a bit of a gun nut? might be less of a hobby and more of a necessity though
i don't think it's known how recent of a vampire damsel is, but based off of vibes i'd guess relatively new, probably some time between nines turning during the great depression and the "present"(2004). either way, she strikes me as the kind of person who'd have been an omnivorous reader even before being turned, and given the amount of free time you'd have being immortal, she's probably read every political book on earth. she's the kind of gal to not only know who gramsci is, but to have read all of his works and have a deeply opinionated view on it all; though i couldn't say what because im not im not a FUCKING NERD (joke)
i feel like jeanette's main hobby is fairly obvious, but with therese i'm not so sure. i feel i could see her doing some ghost writing for a bad mystery novel or something, but part of me wants to just say that taking care of the asylum is her Whole Fuckin Life, y'know.
lacroix also gives off the vibes of an omnivorous reader, but he'd be more of the type to read those How To Manipulate People And Make Them Like You kindsa books, or things of that sorta vibe. if you could imagine the average CEO recommending it, he'd probably read it. whether it's out of a genuine desire to improve his skills, or to laugh at how bad the humans are at it, i leave up to your interpretation. if you asked him about it, he'd probably say something supremely condescending about how hobbies might be vital for those who have nothing better to do with their lives, and how he has his hands full with the city.
VV. writing poetry comes to mind, i actually quite liked what she wrote in the emails. she's probably read a fair amount of poetry in her time, assuming that she's not just Naturally talented (most people aren't). she doesn't quite strike me as omnivorous, but i feel as though she'd like stuff with a tendency towards flowery language and romance as a theme, being a toreador and all
gary. film buff, and also probably watches porn recreationally. not in the same way that a normal person does, but in the way one might watch animal planet
ming xiao was always courteous to me and frankly, right up to the end she struck me as not that bad and arguably something of a straight shooter; though judging from looking up the kuei jin ending i was just being manipulated (which, to be fair, is nothing new for this game). her characterization seems mostly to be polite, albeit manipulative, and generally intelligent to her core. not sure what hobbies might entirely entail from that, but i'm gonna go with a kneejerk reaction and say strategy games like chess or go, and reading philosophy books. seems like a good guess, at least; though i'll admit that we don't seem to have A Ton to go off of. unsure if that was intentional as her like, not wanting to show her hand too much, or if the writers just didn't have enough time to characterize her as much as they'd have liked (or even if they just didn't put that much thought into it)
there's a couple that are pretty straightforward imo. strauss and beckett are deeply immersed in their respective scholarly fields (magic and history, respectively). in terms of minor characters, officer chunk probably spends most of his free time watching tv, wong ho gives off the vibes of someone who'd be way into something specific but fairly normal (like sports or video games), tseng is a gunfucker (bro, same), fat larry's probably into basketball given his jersey, so on
there are a few characters i either didn't meet, get to know too well, or have much to say on. never met heather or yukie. skelter was angry at me from when i first met him and got even angrier the second time i tried to talk to him, and since i don't like people being angry at me and i didn't see any way i could change his mind i just didn't try (gonna see how that goes second playthrough though, since apparently there is more to his character. maybe it had something to do with how my first playthrough was with a ventrue?). venus is pleasant but i didn't catch much of a vibe of what she'd be into, probably just drinking and domming.

did you have any Thoughts about the end of Bloodlines? like "oh LaCroix/Ming Xiao deserved that" or did it change your perception of Jack? What did you think of the implication that the cabbie is Caine? (alternatively, or in addition, is there a fruit you really love the experience of eating?)
OKAY, YES, I HAVE BEEN EXCITED TO ANSWER THIS BUT WANTED TO WAIT TIL I GOT HOME
Let me state for the record that fuck LaCroix first and foremost. He IS a funny little dude though and was a very entertaining character. That ending was absolutely beautiful for him. Ming Xiao... I have no strong opinion one way or another. On one hand, I still have beef with her over the whole Wong Ho thing, on the other... She's just kinda there doing kuei-jin stuff? She DID fuck over the player and Nines so I mean, she deffo was gonna get smoked but still. Don't really have any strong feelings about her either way. Feel like she got slighted with the whole racism thing though.
JACK, dear ol' Jack. I was absolutely DELIGHTED at his part in the ending. It was absolutely lovely, 10/10 would get played by again.
I found the cabbie thing very interesting, but I AM a sucker for the whole 'this random character you didn't even think twice about is actually someone extremely important' trope. For such a corny game, I thought it was a fun little twist, just good fanservice popcorn kind of stuff to finish off the game. Like, maybe if the game were more serious I'd think it was too much, but it was absolutely super campy and deserved a campy ending in my opinion.
For all its flaws, I did THOROUGHLY enjoy myself as someone with no experience with the VtM lore. I intend to learn even though I have no idea how to tabletop, but that's what lore videos are for I suppose.
Thank you and Tai for introducing me to it, Bee. :3c

@missn11 said:
As for changing how they all met, I do like the idea of them all meeting together in Shanghai during the early 1940s, Nines would still be human of course since he was embraced in 1949 and he could have served in WW2. But I love the three of them meeting in a nightclub that played jazz music and LaCroix and Ming Xiao being taken by this rough, no-nonsense human who doesn’t know at first that he is being courted by two very attractive supernatural beings! XD
Oh. I just - I just really, really adore this idea? Because just. Think of the sheer potential of everything. And I’m sorry, it just set up shop in my head and hijacked my thought processes because I love this idea.
Just. Just. Just Nines - mortal and entirely ignorant of what lurks in the night. Nines, who may or may not have been drafted into the military, who has never left the States before, who is a stranger in a strange land. Who’s been exposed to the sheer grinding hell that is war, but who is still him - fiercely loyal to his ideals, doing his best to take care of others, of his people.
Jazz - may or may not be his thing, not exactly. But it’s a taste of home, no matter how remote.
And - what would LaCroix be doing there, I wonder? Furthering his own business assets? On business for the Camarilla, running surveillance on the Kuei-Jin threat? Part of some of the first cautious attempts to see if the Kindred could take Shanghai? Hm - according to the wiki, the Cainites and Kuei-Jin fought for control over Shanghai during WWII... Does Ming Xiao own the club? Actually no, I don’t think she would - does Lacroix? Or perhaps it’s more neutral ground...
And just.
Just, then meeting. And these two monsters - one old, very old indeed, and one somewhat younger.
Just. Being charmed by this mortal, who does not know what they are. Who only judges them by who they are. Who would not hesitate to tell them the truth to their faces, and that is - such a rare thing among the Damned. When Nines points out flaws -  in them? In the system? - they know he’s genuine. And when he says he likes them - they know that he’s sincere.
But why would Nines like them? ...well, they both are very attractive people, there’s no denying it - and it’s war. There’s no guarantee that he will survive whatever comes next, so why not? Why not accept what they’re offering? And - once he falls into something physical with them, he might start noticing other, non-sex-related things about them that he kinda likes...
...and oh goodness, if Nines is mortal - LaCroix would be able to feed from him without having to worry about negative repercussions. Just. Picture mortal!Nines, LaCroix’ fangs in his throat, lost in the bliss of the Kiss...
And. You said ‘who doesn’t know at first that he is being courted by two very attractive supernatural beings!’ - which implies that Nines finds out. Oh goodness, that has some fun implications.
Does something attack Nines, thinking to target the mortal toy/potential ghoul of a not-insignificant Ventrue and/or Kuei-Jin? Does Nines have to get rescued by one or both of them, watching as his lover(s) display supernatural capabilities? Or does something else happen, because there are so many scenarios...
And - they may care about Nines (not that they quite realize this, or let themselves acknowledge it.) But this is the Masquerade.
There are - options. If they wanted to keep Nines. I know a lot more about Kindred capabilities then those of the Kuei-Jin - LaCroix has Dominate. He could make Nines forget. Or he could offer to ghoul his lover, maybe with the eventual goal of the Embrace should Nines prove himself worthy -
Except I think Nines would refuse. Flat-out. That - isn’t what he wants. That isn’t him. And - how rare is it, for someone to have that option laid down before them, of power and immortality and to have it refused?
(Such a terrible irony.)
So, perhaps, a last night. With LaCroix and Ming Xiao not bothering to hide what they are or their capabilities (and yes, Nines finds it *hot*) before LaCroix stares him in the eye and orders him to forget.
(And maybe LaCroix has the tiny, wish-driven, completely unrealistic hope in his head of tracking down Nines, tracking down Armando Rodriguez, when he returns to the States. Maybe he can make the offer again, maybe Nines would accept...)
Except he doesn’t. Not before Nines is Embraced by a random Brujah who never even gives him a name. He never even sees his Sire’s face.
But when the fangs slide home, something in Nines’ head cracks as the Dominate shatters and he knows, he remembers...
This Nines might be. Slightly better prepared to face the Night. LaCroix and Ming Xiao hadn’t told him much, but he had been as fascinated as any person who just learned that the supernatural was real. He knows to avoid fire and sunlight, he knows about the blood bond, maybe even a little bit about the structure of the Camarilla and the fact that there are differing ‘clans’ of vampires.
...maybe he tries to find LaCroix.
Or maybe, years later, he meets his old lovers again, one after the other. And each of them has to adjust to their long-ago mortal fling being alive. (Oh, you know what I mean.)

Nod Squad OT3 (Beckett/Anatole/Lucita), Beckett/Sascha, Julia/Dakota, Nines/LaCroix?
Hi friend! Thank you for playing this game with me. I kept this ask as a talisman all yesterday, knowing I would have time to answer it today! :D
I ship all of these! Not in the "makes brain go brrrr" way, but more in the "my friends really like this and I love watching my friends experience joy" way. A perk of having such creative tumblr friends is I get to frolic and ramble in all the worlds they write down and make art of.
1)What made you ship it?
Nod Squad OT3 caught my attention because like, what do you mean there are actual canon friends in the World of Darkness? Who are they? What are doing? Then, uh, Beckett happened. XD I started liking Beckett/Sascha largely because of your skyline series, and hours of chatting on Discord. After playing Bloodlines, I wasn't in the mood for Nines/LaCroix to do anything besides barbecue Ventrue Tower. Then, the sheer amount of meta, fic, and art convinced me. And of course Ming Xiao comes too.
Julia/Dakota is a little different. I ship it because they're canon in the game. It would take A LOT for me to designate a canon lesbian romance as NOTP. [spoiler] When Dakota put on Julia's clothes, I thought it was the classic romantic thing of wearing a partner's clothes because one misses them. Dakota mentions she misses Julia earlier, even. Then I was puzzled on how they both have the same trouser AND blouse size (and wondered if it was simply storytelling convenience or sexism thinking all attractive woman are one shape). Then I mentally chided Julia for being angry way out of proportion; then I remembered compassion and reminded myself of Julia's ambient stress levels. I didn't get the scene was meant to be like, sinister or relationship-breaking until the game ended and I looked up Single White Female's ending.[end spoiler]
2) What are your favorite things about the ship?
Reverse order. I love Julia and Dakota's color symmetry and the fact they exist. Nines/LaCroix is like watching one of those videos of a great ape recognizing themself in a mirror (the melting of anger to wonder, tenderness). Beckett/Sascha because I love a recovery. Nod Squad for the banter and the humor.
3) Is there an unpopular opinion you have on the ship?
The tumblr VtM fandom regulars are like, 2 people per continent on Earth, so IDK if it's possible to have an obvious unpopular shipping opinion. I guess LaCroix/Nines numbers are up there, but it's defo not as popular as shipping an OC with a Bloodlines character. I will say that I wanted all the Shadows of New York Steam achievements, but I didn't want to play the Good Ending, so I had my rather Lasombra-like friend play it for me. XD
Thank you again for the ask @ryttu3k :D :D :D

Trying to get✨ inspired ✨ so here are some VTMB scent headcannons
Sebastian Lacroix: Dior Sauvage cologne and tea tree oil, sharp and clean so you’re always alert when he walks into the room.
The Sheriff: Cool and dank, like the inside of a dark cavern.
Maximillian Strauss: Old books and the inside of a leather goods store, there’s a coppery smell of blood that makes you think somebody might have an open wound, but that’s just a thing with the Tremere.
Therese Voerman: Fresh linen and expensive ink, there’s a lingering scent of sweetness as well…
Jeanette Voerman: Store bought bubblegum and salt water taffy along with a dash of laundry detergent…
Bertram Tung: Like the car shop nearby, vehicle exhaust and the strangely addictive scent of gasoline along with the must of a well loved coat.
Knox Harrington: Like Old Spice and the best hair gel a college aged ghoul can afford.
Heather Poe: Smells like summer in a department store, newly bought clothes, strawberry lipsmackers, and sunscreen.
Mercurio: Cologne that’s slightly overwhelming but it’s just to cover up the chemical scent of gun polish and astroturf.
Beckett: Always smells like he just walked out of a pine forest, the earthy scent of dirt and crisp trees along with the smell of aging parchment and dust that lets you know he’s researching something again.
Nines Rodriguez: Has his own distinct masculine scent, it’s not bad, not like sweat or must, just smells like him, slightly salty and a hint of iron from his jewelry.
Damsel: Gunpowder and those spicy cinnamon candies, she’s spicy and wild, the scent of rebellion.
Skelter: A mix of strong deodorant that you smell when a brother pulls you into a warm hug and the comforting smell you get when you bury your nose in your dog’s fur after a long day.
Smiling Jack: Smells like he walked right off a pirate ship, tobacco smoke, scotch, and saltwater all in one.
Isaac Abrams: Like walking out of a Men’s Warehouse, fresh pressed suits and spearmint, there’s something comforting about his scent though, like riding shotgun in your dad’s car.
VV: Floral perfume and lace, if you lean in close you can smell the shampoo she uses for her colored hair.
Ash Rivers: Smells like his club, menthol cigarettes and cheap wine, but there’s a more personal scent to him that smells like aftershave and mint.
Gary Golden: Above the musty smell of catacombs and dust there’s a dry scent of money in a safe and old vinyl records.
Mitnick: Compressed air that you use for your keyboard, the smell of brand new technology in an old, unfinished basement.
Imalia: There’s a slightly plastic-y scent from her favorite magazines and posters, she wears a lot of perfume as well in an attempt to cover up the scent of her rotting skin.
Ming Xiao: Patchouli and licorice root, warm and alluring.

Vampire’s Halloween Outfits
[Was going to do a big catch up thing on Halloween, seeing as it’s vampires and all. But, then my night got away from me, so to make up for it I made a big list for old time’s sake.]
Camarilla
LaCroix- He wouldn’t dress up. If there was something that he was required to dress for like say a charity event to cover his tracks or a Camarilla event of some kind, then he would do a ballroom suit and a simple masquerade mask
Sheriff- He wouldn’t do much, maybe just do something like put a Halloween themed pin or patch on his coat
Therese- She would do something like a simple witch costume, that was more on the period accurate and modest
Strauss- He wouldn’t do a costume per se, but he knows how to humor his pupils (and secretly himself) by wearing one of his more detailed coats that make him look like he’s straight out of a gothic horror novel.
Nosferatu
Imalia- Totally could see her wearing something along the lines of a sexy angel outfit
Mitnick- A typical looking IT guy. Honestly, it’s more of a costume for him to wear, “regular,” clothes
Barabus- Batman. He likes to stalk the shadows, stand on buildings, and hopefully make some kid’s night if they notice him. Not to mention, the mask covers most of his face which makes blending in a bit easier
Bertram- He’d dress a Count Orlock. He’s got a good sense of humor about things
Gary- The phantom of the opera. He sees himself as the tragic, disfigured artist, and this is the one night a year he and dress that way without people calling him dramatic.
Anarchs
Jeanette- She would dress as about anything as long as it has the word sexy as a descriptor and shows as much cleavage as possible. Partial to being a cat though
Damsel- She would do something simple like maybe a Halloween themes t-shirt with some face paint and a head band. Something that still counts as a costume, but can be switched to regular clothes if needed
Skelter- He would wear a black shirt. That’s all
Jack- Talks about how he’s got a kick-ass costume for the whole week leading up to Halloween. Comes to the bar wearing his usual outfit and saying that he dressed as a crazy biker
Nines- might wear something that’s more punk-goth than his usual attire. It might look like a regular outfit for someone else, but certainly is at least a bit dressed up for him
Independents
Isaac- Wouldn’t dress up. Much like LaCroix if there was something that required him to, he would only wear a mask, though his would be more plain
Ash- Dresses up as a werewolf because he thinks it’s funny. He needs some form of humor in his life
VV- She would like to dress up like a celebrity of some sort, with the fancy dress and plenty of jewelry. It might need to turn sexy depending on if she’s working that night or not
Beckett- Wha- it’s the end of October already? He’s been holed up in his studies for the whole month. He put on a witch hat. That works, right?
Other
Ming Xiao- Nothing. She has more things to worry about than silly, candy holidays
Pisha- Doesn’t dress up, but enjoys to have a night where she can just walk around with little people questioning what she looks the way she does
Andrea- He LOVES Halloween. Does up his face every year. Literally. It also amazes him how much people will accept as prop decor and make up work.
Cabby/Caine- Hasn’t been around the tradition long enough to realize that people don’t actually think they’re fooling anyone. He’s so off putting that people think he’s dressed up when he’s just walking around.
