what makes geoff johns reintroducing copaganda into the flash mythos truly so bleak is that like. with the messner-loebs and waid runs there was a return to the character basis for wally in the first flash volume wherein he was propelled by the idea that having powers inherently vested in him a duty towards people, only messner-loebs and waid further refined this ideology by emphasizing on wally’s lack of a secret identity and how this truly connected him to the people he was protecting. despite the fact that wally’s powers literally allowed him to accomplish the impossible, to the people of keystone city he was still wally west. he was still approachable, he still navigated within the same system as the rest of them and struggled to find a job or to escape socioeconomic oppression from the government (i will acknowledge here that messner-loebs’s tax evasion/irs arc was severely flawed! but it still ironically got to the core of how if you cannot escape the government you will eventually be cornered into joining them, bc that is the only true “escape” aside from outright anarchy. thankfully the arc was very shortlived). their runs were very much about combating the idea that wally got to do what was best for everyone else based on his own preconceived notions about justice, bc his journey to becoming the best version of himself was resoundingly about his ability to connect with and listen to people in a way that many masked heroes could never truly do. and i’m not sure whether it was intentional or not but it ironically functions really well as a metaphor for the barrier and ulterior motives that are present when a police force is claiming to protect you despite everything going on behind the scenes to keep the system in place. wally was part of no system. he was himself and he ran headfirst into danger regardless of who it was at the other end that needed saving bc first and foremost it was always about the principle rather than the status quo. it’s why he was able to become friends with hartley despite the muddled state of his own politics in the earlier parts of his run. they connected to each other on a level of caring about the people that existed around them in the everyday bc these people were just like them. they were ordinary. and i don’t think that’s something geoff johns has ever understood since he brought wally back into the shadows and made him work for an institution that would only ever want to use him for its own agenda and benefit

OOC | Varmonts & Staffords
ok so this is...smth absolutely no one ever asked for but im trya work out my thoughts. so in the comment i just wrote, arthur wanted to address aria and i realized i had no idea what her title would be in his eyes bc, of course, it'd be whatever his dad told him it was skldjfskldjfdsf roderick out here having a stranglehold on everything he touches aksjdfksf but anyway!!!!
so!!!!! in general, when roderick conquers a nation, he executes their royalty and declares that ~he is now king/lord/prince/ruler of that place (i feel like atp all his titles listed would put even daenerys targaryen to shame ;D) and overall emperor of everything within his vast dominion etc
BUT!! astaira is both the largest and most rebellious land he's conquered so far and so he's treading a bit more carefully than usual. fortunately for him, its ruled by a woman, so his idea is to marry her and thus rule both by conquest and by marriage (and in future potentially by blood should their children succeed him) in order to help keep the ppl happy. this would mean ~not stripping the royals of their titles.
HOWEVER, while he's cool w letting the marriage further consolidate his claim to role, he doesn't wish it to be seen as LEGITIMIZING it. he wants it clear he rules in his own right and, out of his big hearted ways to his ppl or whatever, he chose to take the former ruler to wife so that her line may continue etc etc etc.
SO!! im thinking that what his plan is, is to remove eilia's title as queen, making her simply a princess of a royal line, and then when they marry re-crown her queen as well as empress and the lady wife vers of all of his various titles. so yeah!!! i think his initial plan was that all the staffords maintain their rank as princesses.
HOWEVER!! there is a fly in the ointment and her name is siobhan!!!! there's a missing princess out there and, having still her full royal titles isn't smth he wants out there if HE can't control it
SO!! nd this is NUTS!! but i think he's officially launched an investigation into the legitimacy of their parents' union to last however long it takes to bring in siobhan either dead or alive laksjdfkjlsdfkjsjfdsf so for the moment their legitimacy is in question and, therefore, whether or not they have any royal rights and dignities, legally speaking
i imagine their marriage was indeed legal hahaha and i doubt there's anything besides trumped up evidence against it, but its smth to keep things at least a lil off-kilter while there's a rogue princess out there doubtless stirring up the ppl and while eilia is refusing his hand
once siobhan is found and eilia agrees to marry him, the courts will rule in favor of a legitimate marriage having taken place, and the trumped up evidence will be found to have been fabricated, with those who forged these lies and falsehoods duly punished. now, what will be complicated is if eilia agrees to marry him before siobhan is found!!!! i think in that case, he'd produce 'evidence' that she died of some evidence w/o his superior doctors there to save her or whatever, while secretly continuing to search but ANYWAY atm he's banking on the idea that his v experienced bounty hunters will produce her, one way or the other, any moment now!!!! lakjsdfkjdsf
should siobhan appear and he prove unable to seize her, the court will rule their illegimacy but it'll be ok in the end bc his true love (lol) for eilionora his bride will trump these scandalous findings and he will showcase his goodness by marrying her anyway and STILL crowning her despite her being baseborn lakjsdfkjldsf so there you have it. obv, if she doesn't marry him, she'll remain a blasted bastard etc
as to my initial question of what their titles are while the court is pending, that's sort of...up to the individual. arthur will, of course, go w 'my lady' bc if his dad is choosing to question their legitimacy, he's not gonna question ~that hahaha but yeah nothing's been decided one way or another so there's neither a correct nor an incorrect way to do it in that respect since its all up in the air. 'lady' would, i'm guessing, be their title if they were found to be bastards bc they are, of course, still of royal blood and therefore noble, since in history that's usually how it went -- when elizabeth i was declared a bastrad she was still known as 'the lady elizabeth' etc, but idk how this world handles things like that, lizzy? but yeah as a result i went w 'my lady' in the comment but can def change it!!!!
TL;DR: roderick is worried about siobhan's royal authority being out in the world, so to help counter that im thinking he's launching a public investigation going as to whether or not the stafford girls are illegitimate, and therefore have any right to royal dignities and powers at all slkajfklsjfjd he also has a plan to deal w the fallout of this once things, inevitably, go entirely his way, one way or another ;D
EDIT:
omggggggg im thinking about it and realizing that he might even -- while everyone's gathered for the celebration of his daughter's bday but after that's all kinda done with -- have some astairan-born court official (whose family will be immediately after released from prison after the charges against them are weirdly found to have just...vanished huh but def don't think abt that) run in and breathlessly announce:
'OMG WE JUST FOUND THESE TROUBLING DOCS THAT PROVE THE LATE SO-CALLED QUEEN WASNT THE LATE KING OF ASTAIRA'S LEGIT WIFE AT ALL BC THE KING WAS ALREADY MARRIED (to some woman who either was still alive then but is now convneintly v dead, or else just got a v mysterious landfall out of nowhere and can somehow now afford jewels and palaces she never could before which isn't at all suspicious and we def shouldn't question that), AND OBV THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN PULL OFF POLYGAMY IS OUR LORD AND SAVIOR THE GOD-GIVEN GREAT EMPEROR'
and roderick will ofc be duly shocked and aPPaLLeD and proceed to harshly judge a man who (supposedly) took multiple brides ;D as he calls for a full formal investigation of the issue that'll drag on as long as he wants it to alksdfjkjsdf the announcement will b VERY dramatic lakjsdfakljdsj ;D
(in which case i'll go back and change arthur's mode of address to your highness bc she's not considered potentially illegitimate ~yet kajdfjklsdjf)

Okay I thought I made a post about this one AU but apparently I DIDNT so let's try again
WoW AU, where Mitch is a paladin. Or—he used to be, before the Light abandoned him. He always had a strict set of morals, dolling our divine retribution to those who'd earned it. He was a warrior of the Light, not a priest, and as such has killed many, many people.
I'm not sure what exactly happens for him to forsake the Light. Maybe Katrina is killed while he's away on a mission, and he comes home to find her dead. Tries to resurrect her but he can't. It's a power few are granted and Mitch believes that after all he's done for the Light, everything he's sacrificed, it owes him this. The one thing he's ever wanted for himself, the only thing he asked in return for his service: to be able to come home to his family, for Katrina to be safe while he wasn't there to protect her.
But the Light doesn't answer. And so Mitch turns his back on it, swears vengeance on whoever killed Katrina and spends his days hunting them down, and every vicious kill makes the Light within him flicker out a little more, until there's nothing left. The Golden Light fades from his eyes and leaves them an empty, scorched black, and he welcomes the darker powers that aid him on his mission, killing anyone who gets in his way.
Mitch becomes a mercenary eventually, which is how he later meets Stiles: a mage that hires him as protection/a guide for some quest he's got to do in some dangerous part of the world. Maybe he's studying demons or the fel.
Whatever happens, Stiles does end up killed, Mitch unable to protect him. Their journey lasted several months, given them time to get to know each other and bond. Enough that Stiles' death crushes him, holding his battered and bloody corpse enough to almost make his heart stop beating. And it's been years since Katrina, since Mitch forsake the Light, but he can feel that gentle, warm presence around him. He doesn't want to ask for it's help again, not after it spurned him the first time, but he can't lose Stiles. So he swallows his pride and begs it bring Stiles back to him—and it does.
A beam of pure Light falls apon them, peaceful and invigorating and Mitch can't breathe because he forgot what it felt like to wrapped in its grace, and then Stiles does breathe as his life is returned and his wounds are healed, and the first thing Stiles sees is Mitch's sooty face streaked with tears, and his eyes glowing a pure, iridescent gold.

okay but like if geto had been alive/did not go rogue do you think gojo's actions in canon would change?
(also i read your gojo meta posts and i def agree w your insights w gojo's lack of more straightforward action, he's so roundabout w how he helps that by the time the kids are strong enough to actually do something its too late (see the culling game, the zenin massacre, etc.) also with how closed off he is/unwilling to share his ideals to anyone else even his own students which makes me sad bc its obvious that this was an aftermath effect directly w his fallout w and eventually killing geto + him not properly processing any of it which would obv make him shut/keep everyone in a distance, his infinity quite becoming literal even with people he obv cares for)
asking for ur thoughts pls
[prev ask in this thread]
I don't this his plan would change all that much --if at all-- but I do think the way he interacts and connects with others definitely would.
Personally, I think that Gojo is stuck in a once-bitten-twice-shy mentality, where he truly is scared of caring about another person in the way that he did Geto, but also in allowing someone to care for him in that way as well. Geto got to see him vulnerable, Geto got to guide his morality and question his actions in a way that we haven't seen from anyone else in the story. They went through profound trauma together, and while they may not have been there to pick up the pieces of each other that got left behind, they certainly had a bond that meant they would have if they thought the other needed it.
If Gojo hadn't gone through losing the moral and emotional foundation that Geto provided for him, if he hadn't gone through losing someone that he cared so much about and who clearly still cared for him despite everything; yes, I do think he'd have a healthier mentality toward allowing himself to rely on and open up to others. There's genuinely so much of his current self that I think would change if things had worked out differently with Geto.
I think we'd still have a Gojo with low empathy and a cocky-personality --that's just the core of who he is-- but I don't think he'd keep everything so close to his chest. I don't think he'd hide his true feelings quite as much or keep others at an emotional distance like we've seen. Would it change everything? No, because he'll always be on a pedestal, disconnected from others simply because of who he is, but I think that that distance and isolation would be far less extreme than it currently is.
Also, I think it would be good for he and Geto to both still have each other, to know that the other was there, even if they don't necessarily relearn how to rely on each other.

rogue one was a film about ordinary people not chosen ones. with Finn it was clear he'd never done that kind of thing before, he'd never been asked to kill indiscriminately. bodhi grew up on jedha. maybe he knew that what they were doing to it's people and it's history, was wrong, even if he thought nothing else was wrong. like there isn't time in a 2 hour film to explore all that. rogue one was exceptional in showing that not everyone gets to be a hero imo. resisting is a thankless task.
you said it best yourself! there isnt time in a 2 hour film to explore all that.
then uh... why does it fucking try? why do they try to do and show SO MUCH? just give me a drawn out scene on one planet or maybe two, where we can explore characters’ motivations as well as the cultures and societies of star wars. dont try to fit entire sagas into 90 minutes. rogue one was so rushed. you barely had time to even learn the fucking characters’ names.. let alone stop to think about why something is happening. rogue one was okay. i didn’t like how every plot point hinged on a coincidence or random chance. they happen to board the ship and escape the death star beam shockwave. the empire dude happens to also go to mads mikkelsen’s planet just as kassian and jyn do. he also happens to decide to go to the big space needle transmitter planet with the archives at the same time too. they happen to finally send the data just before they all die, because we all know none of those characters are in any other star wars movie so obv they gotta die because it fits the existing plot. idk. im not sold. it was better than the force awakens tho. or should i call it A New Hope 2: Now With Better CGI And Actors Of Color And Female Leads Because You’ll Be So Attached To Them That You Don’t Notice That We Copied And Pasted The Script From A New Hope And JJ Abrams’d It Up Until It Kinda Doesn’t Make Any Sense But Made A Ton Of Money- The Disney Way
don’t get me wrong, i really like star wars. i’m this opinionated because i want it to be good. i want it so bad. i grew up with the prequels and i loved them so much, which is why i get so disappointed seeing them again now. where did the magic and fantasy and worldbuilding go? i thought i remembered the star wars movies being magical journeys through space and alien worlds and rebellion, not whiny anakins and convenient coincidences and ugh idk. whatever. im not as familiar with the original trilogy but i kinda dont wanna watch them again cause im afraid of the shit i’ll notice.
