10 travel gifts for eco-friendly travelers
Such is the current reusable and recycling revolution, that at home, most of us wouldn’t dream of buying single-use plastic water bottles and throwaway coffee cups, or using plastic straws on nights out. Right? However, while we might be a bunch of enlightened, environmentally-conscious and all-around excellent human beings in our day-to-day life (and our night life), those good intentions can often go out of the window when we travel abroad.
Which is bizarre, when you consider that many of the places we visit need our help to reduce non-recyclables the most.
It’s time to start traveling the same way we live at home – mindful of waste, and plastic free. Be kind to the planet and your travel-loving friends and family with these super green gifts…
  1. Stojo Collapsible Coffee Cup
Coffee to go? I should Stojo!
instagram
Stojo’s collapsible coffee cups not only fit in your pocket, come with a reusable straw and can be bought in a variety of gorgeous shades, but they’re also made from recyclable material.
  2. Rareform bags and tags
And top of the Billboard Hot 100 goes to…
instagram
Rareform! Rareform take billboard vinyl destined for the garbage and turn them into hard-wearing backpacks, passport holders, luggage tags, laptop sleeves and more. Because each billboard is unique in its design, color and typography, so is each bag. As a company, they re-purpose 20,000 lbs. of billboard vinyl a month into their one-off products.
  3. Toilet Twinning
Show someone that you give a crap!
instagram
Help to flush away poverty. 2.3 billion people around the world don’t have somewhere safe and hygienic to go to the loo. This incentive allows you to twin your toilet, or twin another person’s toilet as a gift, with a toilet in a developing country. The money then goes to help a family build a basic toilet, access clean water and learn about hygiene – a vital combination that can save lives. The recipient of your gift will receive a framed certificate, complete with a colour photo and GPS coordinates of their twin location. Excellent reading while on the ‘throne’.
  4. Vagabands ID bracelet
Safe, eco and good-looking? We’re with the band.
instagram
These award-winning bands are one of our favourite travel gifts. Not only do they help to keep you safe (just snap open to reveal all the important safety, medical and practical information that you want to keep to hand on the road), but they also look fab and are a really lovely memento of your adventure. As well as being virtually indestructible and potentially life-saving, they’re also environmentally-conscious. Aiming to be carbon negative by 2020, the bands are 100% recyclable and hand-made in London.
  5. Pela eco-friendly phone case
Hello. Ocean here, you called?
instagram
Yep, and we’d like to share this: Around one billion new phones are bought each year. Which means that one billion phone cases (or more if you upgrade your look every year) end up in landfill or in the ocean. Sure, you could probably live without a protective case while traveling. (Who are you, and why are you not accidentally dropping your phone off a. bunkbeds, b. out of moving vehicles, c. all occasions involving happy hours?). But the likelihood is, that you’ll need the protective services of a phone case even more while you’re away. Pela eco cases are not only beautifully-designed with limited edition prints, colours and graphics, but more importantly, they are 100% compostable, plus have a heap of other clever science credentials like being free from lead, cadmium, BPA and phthalates.
  6. 4Ocean bracelet
Trash talk! Buy someone a bracelet to pull a pound of plastic.
instagram
In the jewelery world, diamonds may be forever, but in the real world, so is plastic. A plastic bottle can take thousands of years to decompose. 4Ocean bracelets make the perfect gift for travel lovers. Supporting a different cause each month with limited-edition themes and designs, they not only look amazing and are a great talking point, but they also do good. Every time you buy a 4Ocean bracelet, a pound of trash is pulled from our oceans and coastlines. Plus, the beads are made from recycled glass and the cord is made from recycled plastic bottles.
  7. House of Marley headphones or speakers
Sounds like a good idea to us.
instagram
A soundtrack to your travels is an essential. Plus, people snoring in dorm rooms, on planes, trains, buses… in fact, any situation in life, is just annoying. Therefore, a good pair of headphones are a must-have on the road. But what if they could also have an environmental impact as well? There are a few brands out there using recycled materials to make their headphones, but one of our favorites is House of Marley. As well as looking fresh and sounding great, they’re also made from mindfully sourced materials. The full list of materials they use to do good is genuinely too long to publish, but includes CNC milled-bamboo, recycled REWIND
Tumblr media
fabric and reclaimed and upcycled REGRIND
Tumblr media
Silicone.
  8. Allbirds sneakers
… And hipster points to spare.
Recognize these? Made from organic cotton and even recycled plastic bottles, 2019’s most-Instagrammed sneakers are perfect for urbanites and outdoorsy types, they’re paving the way for trainer lovers worldwide to start thinking deeper about where their kicks are sourced, one step at a time. Better yet, until they reach their goal of zero emissions, they are taxing themselves for the carbon they emit & investing in offsets to fund projects that neutralize their footprint. Hell ya.
  9. Dopper insulated bottle
Be cool. Travel how you live.
instagram
We get it, the first piece of health advice you get when you travel is, don’t drink the water! Of course, be safe and drink bottled water where you need to. But so many hostels now provide drinking water where you can refill your bottle, and lots of treks and national parks have actually banned single-use plastic on their trails.
Every refillable water bottle helps the environment, but we just love Dopper for their eco-ethos, pastel colours and the fact that the top screws off to form a handy wine glass. The insulated versions also keep liquid hot for 9 hours or cold for 24 hours. (Presumably, the same can be said for keeping white wine cold, too?).
TIP. Download the Refill app to top up your bottle with free drinking water on the go. Plus, Refill have worked with many US airports to add liquid drains at security, so that you can empty your bottle before going through and then fill it up at the other side for your flight!
  10. Speakeasy Travel Supply Passport Scarf
Scarves that are crafted using fabrics from developing countries.
Yep, the unicorn of the travel clothing world… it shouldn’t exist, but it does. These infinity scarves have a hidden pocket to safely stash valuables (like a credit card, cash, or a passport), are made from soft locally sourced fabric from developing countries. Mind. Fully. Blown. As well as being perfect for treks and being out and about when you don’t feel safe carrying a wallet, because of their circular shape, they’re also perfect for countries and religious sites where women need to cover up their hair.
When we’re not out exploring the world, lusting after ethically made travel accessories and, we try to be as kind to the planet in other ways too. If you want to find out how, click here.

Have I found the best carry on luggage?
I haven’t tested out every carry on suitcase in the world, but I know that this one is a keeper. When asked if we wanted to test out their lightweight carry on spinner luggage, I’m not sure if they knew how reckless I could be with my belongings. I took one of these hard shell bags on a recent trip, and I’m pretty sure I bashed it off random walls and hauled it up curbs. I can hardly believe my eyes that it still looks brand new. luggage is the real deal, and I’m going to show you why you need to pick up one of these for your next holiday.
is Durable and Functional
’s Minima lightweight carry on spinner luggage is the ideal travel companion for you and your belongings. It fits the standards and restrictions of every airline to travel as a carry on bag (it measures 21.5” x 13.5” x 8.5” and meets TSA and IATA cabin guidelines). Weighing in at only 7lbs, it’s more lightweight than aluminum. With a 38-liter capacity, you’ll have lots of extra room to store your things. Skip the extra baggage fees and travel carry on only!
Best Hardside
Even though it’s lightweight carry on luggage, that doesn’t mean that it lacks in durability. The exterior of the bag is made of 100% polycarbonate hard shell, meaning that it’s unbreakable and flexible to store all of your stuff. It’s military grade, water resistant, and it can even survive high falls.
The last thing you want is your hard shell luggage splitting open at the airport. Trust me, I’ve been there! I’ve arrived from a flight between Toronto and Auckland, New Zealand to discover a huge crack in my suitcase. It’s a little unnerving to have your belongings held together with duct tape for a couple of weeks, and keeping your fingers crossed that they survive the journey home. You won’t have to worry about that with luggage.
When purchasing a suitcase, you might wonder if it’s best to buy luggage with two wheels or four wheels. Four wheels is definitely the way to go. The luggage Minima has 360 degree silent spinner wheels that glide with ease, even over rough terrain. You’ll zip across the airport in no time with the Minima in tow.
Functional and Compartmentalized
Do you like to keep everything organized? I like everything to have its place. Keeping your belongings organized as you travel really makes it simpler to find everything and lose less of your things on your journey. For instance, you can keep your tech gear in one side and your clothes in the other.
The Minima lightweight carry on luggage has three interior pockets to store both large and small items. Every pocket has its own zipper to ensure that everything stays securely fastened. There’s also a small, water resistant pouch and a removable laundry bag to store your dirty clothes away from your clean ones.
It also comes in a range of colors: blue, dark blue, black, gray, light gray, pink, and sand. We chose the light blue and the dark blue Minima bag. Its telescoping ergonomic handle has two locking positions and its perfect for people of any height (like us – Justin is over a foot taller than me!).
Cabin Keeps Your Belongings Safe
The Minima is the best carry on bag for a woman or a man. No matter your travel style or purpose, whether for business or pleasure, you’ll love this suitcase. Everything you bring with you will be kept safe, and not only because it’s made of the toughest hard shell material.
Built in TSA Lock
Gone are the days where you have to attach your own TSA lock to your bag. luggage has the TSA lock built right into the bag itself. You won’t have to worry about anyone stealing from your bag or rifling through your personal belongings. Everything is safe and secure inside this cabin luggage.
Money Back Guarantee
luggage has a 30-day trial. If at any point during that 30 days you aren’t satisfied with your purchase, they will provide you with a full refund (no questions asked!). In addition, luggage has a 10-year limited warranty. If the suitcase or any pieces on the suitcase break, you can get it repaired or replaced by the company.
How to Buy the Best Carry On
You can buy the Minima Carry On directly through their website. offers free 2-day shipping and returns: all orders are shipped in two business days. They also offer a regular checked bag if you’d like something a little larger, too.

I am no stranger to visa applications. Plus, I perfectly know the struggle when applying for a visa especially since I am born in a third world country with only a third world passport — naturally, processes and interviews would always be especially rigorous for us.
But in spite of all the horror stories that you may have heard, seen, or read, getting a visa is still and absolutely achievable! Take it from me!
TIP: Make sure your passport is not expiring anytime soon. In addition, submit all the documents in an organized way. It helps to provide a checklist too in order to give the embassy a quick overview that you have prepared everything that’s needed (though at times this is one of the basic requirements).
Don’t even try submitting fake or ‘doctored’ documents. There’s a high chance that you will not only get denied, but you will also be banned.
It can be through travel tickets/bookings or your passport stamps. Even if it’s not one of the requirements, it helps to show them this to send them a message that you have traveled before, that you always came back, and that you have never overstayed abroad.
INTERVIEWS: Your interview can affect the documents you are submitting; but surely, if you are submitting genuine papers, then there’s no need for you to be nervous about this because the questions are always basic: what is your purpose for visiting, how long do you intend to stay, etc. (Though depending on your answers, the visa officer can be more thorough).
At best: remember to be honest and precise when applying for a visa. Simply answer what they ask for. DON’T launch into a full-blown storytelling spree. It’s not necessary for you to give out information when it’s not asked for! (Besides, the officers unfortunately wouldn’t care about your story, no matter how sad or tragic it might be.)
Additionally, wear something presentable (no need to be too formal), arrive early, be confident, and speak in English (or if you’re more comfortable in speaking your country’s language, then feel free to do so — unless the embassy doesn’t allow it).
travel insurance, I would highly recommend World Nomads since they offer the best price and coverage (they cover all countries worldwide too!).
: If you’re applying for a tourist visa then this shouldn’t be a problem; after all, you really wouldn’t have any other rationale for visiting a country abroad other than for… well, tourism. Supply them the itinerary that you want to do, the places that you want to see, and the experiences that you want to achieve and you should be fine.
The same applies for work, study, fiancé, or marriage visas because those are already self explanatory — to work because you are being sent there by your company, to study because you want to develop your knowledge and the university at that country is known for their outstanding program, etc. etc.
If, however, you’re applying for a visa to visit a friend or family, embassies commonly need a compelling argument to justify your plans of visiting. The first application isn’t typically a problem because seeing a friend or family member for the first time should somehow already be a reasonable purpose; but for the next visits, you or your host must have a stronger cause as to why you want to come back. Such may hold true too if you are planning to apply for 2nd tourist visa to the same country and so on.
Nevertheless, again, this is where dissimilarities can happen: some people can easily get a visa after the first time, but some people cannot. It’salways a case to case basis.
You might be thinking now, “What are examples of strong reasons?” I think it all boils down to having significant or sensible events. For tourism, let’s say you’ve been to Belgium before but currently, you want to come back because you want to see Tomorrowland; provide them the tickets for that and your motivation for wanting to see them (it happens only once a year anyway). Or maybe you have a blog and you want to experience and promote the country even more, blah blah blah. Or you want to take a gap year before you start working on your career. As for friends or family visits, if there’s a birthday, wedding, or reunion, make sure your or your host mentions that too.
» At the same time, don’t forget to prove the relationship you have with your host.
Ultimately, just make sure you have a decent motive or just be true to what your intention is — most of the time, your situation (no matter how simple or complicated it might be) would already be enough of a reason.
TIP: When applying for a visa, don’t ever indirectly imply that you have plans of staying longer because that will go against the 4th section below. If you’re going on a student visa, don’t mention plans of working in their country after finishing your degree; you have to express your desire to come back to your own country.
Or if you’re going on a tourist visa, don’t carelessly mention that their country has a very good education system that you find fascinating, because that might incidentally hint something to the embassy officer that you might want to study there — this is a bit of an exaggeration, but you get what I’m saying. …Then again, I’m pretty sure you won’t say such things if you follow the tips I’ve mentioned in the 1st section: which is to be ‘on point’ about your answers. Say nothing more, nothing less!
Every embassy wants you to convince them that you have enough money to support yourself because if you don’t, they would be very skeptical about how you will be funding your stay and they will also doubt your purpose for visiting their country.
As a general rule, here are ways for you to prove your solvency…
it becomes tricky, because though you have your own business, they need to know that it’s something stable and that you have enough cash. So other than the 1st three bullets below, it helps to provide:
Copy of Official Business Registration/ Business Permit
Tax paying certificate and/or tax statements
Bank Statement or Book of the company and Financial Reports for the last 3 months
Copies of personal credit cards, bank certificates, or bank statements in the last 3 months
depending if your sponsors are your parents or your school, or even both:
Sponsorship letter from parents or legar guardian, with attached documents showing their solvency (as employed, self-employed, unemployed, or retiree persons)
Certification from the institution/school providing you the grant; this document must specify the amount, term, and expenses that the scholarship includes
NOTE: The requirements for employed and self-employed persons are as applicable to freelancers too; depending on your situation, you might have to provide not only your proof of employment but even the registry of your ‘business’.
Also, Please DON’T rely on this list alone; double check with your embassy as there might be some items that they would specifically want from you and which I have failed to mention here.
TIP: For most of my visa applications, I usually have a sponsor in spite of the fact that I can already support myself — I still like to include them in my applications since it adds more strength. It truly helps a lot, especially when I quit my job and started working freelance. Usually my sponsors are friends or relatives, but it’s usually just on paper; it doesn’t mean that I absolutely require them to fund my travels. Of course, in line with this, you would need to provide enough proof to show your relationship with these sponsors and why they are sponsoring you — and that of course you ACTUALLY have the funds to cover your trip since the immigration officers can check on this before your actual entry into their country (they have the right to ask for proof of cash on hand, credit card, bank statement, etc.)
By the way, this is another area that you can overdeliver on; feel free to provide as many documents as you can!
“But what is the minimum amount of money do I need to show in my bank account?”
This is something I can’t really answer because every country would have its own minimum requirement depending as well on the time period that you are going to stay; therefore, I suggest that you call the embassy or check their website for any corresponding info about this.
But in my experience with Schengen Visas for example, most of the member countries would need you to show that you have EUR 50 (Php 2,500+) per day of your stay. This is the bare minimum, that’s why I suggest that you add way more money to it.
Money Saving Tips to Start & Live a Life of Travel
Meanwhile, as an additional way of showing that you can ‘support’ yourself, they would surely need documents that shows  you have a hotel booked. To obtain these documents you can (1) reserve with a hotel online or (2) make a ‘dummy booking’ which can usually be done online [like Booking.com and Agoda], or through a travel agency.
Booking.com (function(d, sc, u) { var s = d.createElement(sc), p = d.getElementsByTagName(sc)[0]; s.type = 'text/javascript'; s.async = true; s.src = u + '?v=' + (+new Date()); p.parentNode.insertBefore(s,p); })(document, 'script', '//aff.bstatic.com/static/affiliate_base/js/flexiproduct.js');
If however, you are going to stay over at a friend, partner or family’s house, the embassy would need details of your ‘host’ like their ID cards, residence documents, proof of your relationship to them — all of which are easy to prepare.
In my opinion, this is where embassies put most emphasis on — they really need you to be bounded to your home country, and that you have strong ties that will compel you to come back at the end of your stay. They definitely don’t want you aiming for ways to stay longer (illegally) nor aiming for ways to become an immigrant without going through the necessary procedures at your home country.
What are examples of ‘strong ties’? They vary from country to country: they will consider your circumstances, travel plans, financial resources, and ties that will ensure your departure after the period of visit. Thus, other than the evidences already mentioned in the above sections, make sure that you’ve issued…
Mention an affair that would necessitate your return (it can be a board meeting, company event, etc.)
Business registration
Proof of possession of real and personal property (real estate, etc.)
A letter from you, stating any other reasons why you won’t overstay
School enrollment certificate
Approved leave of absence
A letter from you and your parents or legal guardian(s), stating reasons why you won’t overstay (explanation of family situation, your long-term plans in your residence country, etc.)
NOTE: These are NOT absolute, chances are, one proof would already be enough; yet as usual, it helps to overdeliver on evidences. You can always ask the embassy for any other kinds of documents they might want from you to prove your situation.
I understand that some procedures when applying for a visa would require a round trip ticket to be booked and presented — this would already be a proof that you won’t overstay, but I advise that you provide more evidences still since tickets are the most basic affirmation. (Though of course, most embassies nowadays do NOT require you to have round-trip tickets to be booked and presented before/during the application. If you really need to present tickets, it should be enough to show a flight reservation or itinerary).
In case you’re wondering where to look for the best flight deals, my go-to platforms are Momondo, Kayak, and Skyscanner.
TIP: Your passport stamps help in justifying that you are not someone who overstays abroad.

Overall
I dearly hope that these tips will help you! I wish you all the best of luck!
FINAL NOTE: Even with these pointers, remember to always check with your embassy first. Please also direct any clarifications and follow-ups to your applications to their office, and NOT to me; this is in consideration of the fact that they would always know more about your situation than me. Again: this article is merely a helpful guide for you.
How about you?
Do you have any other tips to share? Or things that I forgot to mention and should include when applying for a visa?

Target Global has a €1M ‘super seed’ pot incoming to switch on laid off tech talent in Spain during COVID-19
Target Global and a number of Spain’s startup founders are allocating a €1 million pot of money to support local tech talent laid off or furloughed as a result of the coronavirus crisis.
The aim of the initiative is to provide pre-seed financing to help local, crisis-hit tech workers switch gears and build out a startup concept over the next four to six months, covering living expenses plus enough funds to get going on a business idea.
The VC firm, which now has some €800M under management, says it’s putting €500,000 towards the initiative — allocated out of its existing early stage fund.
A further €500,000 is being chipped in from a number of local founders, including entrepreneurs behind AlienVault, TravelPerk, Job & Talent, Badi and Adyen.
They’ll be cutting checks of up to €200k for “qualified applicants”, per the VC firm, which says the initiative could initially support around 10 aspiring entrepreneurs who have found themselves sat at home without a job as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The idea is to cap it at €1M for now,” says Target Global investment director, Lina Chong . “We don’t know where the end of the tunnel is but for now let’s say we cap it at that.”
She says the aim is for each check to cover the living costs of one or two people for four to six months, along with “initial startup costs” — aka: Founding an entity, working with a designer and engineer, developing an idea or concept to beta or prototype and testing some early assumptions — to get it ready for a pre-seed round.
“We’re calling it super seed,” she adds. “It’s like a real first check just to get you started.”
The VC firm will be putting up a landing page for the initiative shortly — this week or next, per Chong — to begin taking applications for the ‘safe notes’.
In terms of requirements, applicants must be located in Spain, and will be asked to specify a few categories their concept falls into; plus whether they’ve built anything yet; whether they have users; whether they’ve incorporated yet, and so on.
“All of those things can be ‘no’ — that’s totally fine,” Chong tells TechCrunch. “We will ask for your LinkedIn because we do want to have this go towards people in tech. We want to see some minimum amount of experience in startups or in technology — but you yourself don’t have to be an engineer.
“And of course the idea has to be pretty bold and ambitious… That’s going to be the bulk of our work — filtering through candidates where we feel they have the relevant background, plus what they’re thinking about it something really relevant and big.”
“We’re not looking to fund the next sunglasses shop,” she adds. “But if you have a different way to engage with government… [or] think about even media. There’s so many things up for grabs right now. There’s going to be a host of security, identity, so many issues. And that’s the stuff we’re looking for — real, big, global problems.”
Chong confirms that some of Target Global’s own portfolio startups have had to lay off or furlough staff themselves during the crisis — including flatshare finder business Badi and business travel booking platform TravelPerk. Both of which are types of businesses that are very exposed to the national population lockdowns that have been imposed over most of Europe. (The travel sector has of course been especially hard hit.)
“Every business that’s been affected by shelter in place have had to let go of staff,” adds Chong, suggesting portfolio layoffs have been up to around a third for the worst affected startups.
Local founders have therefore been keen to support the initiative, not only to help the wider tech ecosystem in Spain, but as something they can point furloughed or laid off staff to as an opportunity.
“Everyday we’re getting more sign ups,” she adds, noting that founders can also choose offer mentorship/advice as well as chipping into the fund.
Target Global dialled up its focus on Spain last year, when it opened a country office in Barcelona. Though Chong, who is normally based in Barcelona, has been spending the lockdown period in Berlin, after returning to Germany from a trip to the US in March.
“For me this [crisis] is super unfortunate because one of the reasons we made a bet so early on Spain is because of exactly this talent — Typeform and all the gaming studios, and Facebook and Amazon in Madrid. Let’s say priming the early generation workforce. And giving them the ideas how to be in a tech company, how an organization runs, how to build product, how to think of marketing — all of this stuff. So I think it’s a big shame,” she says.
“Clearly Spain has a highly entrepreneurial spirit. They’ve come out of the last crisis… with a very ‘we make our own reality’ view of the world. And I think the same will happen in this crisis so we thought why won’t we just allocate a small amount of money — for our early stage fund it’s a relatively small check — it’s a very exploratory one.”
In terms of the business opportunities that may open up as a result of the societal and economic disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Chong suggests “a new way of thinking about consumer products and service” is certainly coming down the pipe.
“I would be shocked if there isn’t a plethora of ideas coming on how to rethink brick and mortar and rethink retail or consumer goods,” she says.
“This is a clear trend that brick and mortar, as a model, is not working. In the US, around the world, you see everything from massive shopping malls to main street small shops, owner-operated shops, all shuttering doors. And I think it’s a big opportunity — whether the entrepreneur decides to tackle this opportunity from a pure digital play to maybe it’s a turn on real estate? Maybe there’s a new model of thinking about shop ownership or what to do with that space? Because consumers are pretty fickle. They’re used to entirely new experience with Amazon. I think there’s a lot of opportunity there for sure. The specific form or shape of that opportunity — I leave it to the wild imaginations of entrepreneurs.”
She also points to the whole value chain around retail — from supply chains to marketing, to manufacturing to getting the goods and services into consumers hands — as ripe for rethinking right now, adding: “I’m hoping there’s going to be a lot of innovation around even the supply chain aspects.”
Entrepreneurs in the country may also do well to focus their energy on ideas around reskilling/upskilling the large numbers of people who suddenly find themselves unable to do their usual work because of the impact of social distancing on traditional businesses and ways of working. Spain’s bar culture, for example, looks set to be very heavily hit by the coronavirus.
“How do we manage ourselves? How do we manage others in a remote working environment?” posits Chong. “There’s such a huge population of people where — it’s becoming pretty clear — that if you can’t work remote, if you’re not a knowledge worker, there’s a huge question mark over your ability to maybe more into those knowledge worker/desk type roles. And that’s a lot of value that’s left on the table. That’s human brains and muscle — just so much energy and potential that’s just kind of left out there.
“I would argue that a real forward thinking entrepreneur can think of ways to help utilize and bring meaning to these people’s skill sets.”
The terms of the safe notes will be “flexible”, according to Chong, though there will be a provision for investors to get a discount on the next round, i.e. if there is one.
“You don’t have to pay it back if there’s no financing afterwards,” she says. “So far we really do want to keep it case by case — so it’s super flexible. It’s essentially like ‘hey, we want the option not the obligation to follow on in the next round’.
“Clearly, we’ll decide on that case by case. Anything beyond that we want to make sure that terms of the next fund — it’s likely going to be seed funds that come in at that next stage of the company life — we want to be able to keep the slate relatively clean in order for those funds to feel comfortable coming on board. So there’s not too much stipulated at the moment in the safe note.”
“It’s an amount. We can help you incorporate. It’s an option to the next round. There’s going to be a minimum discount — probably pretty standard, like 20%. And that’s pretty much it,” she adds.
This report was updated with a correction: We originally stated that Target Global has €700M under management — in fact it now has €800M. We also updated our report to clarify that the €500,000 which the VC firm is contributing is being allocated from its existing early stage fund. We were also originally told that the checks would be smaller and more numerous; we’ve now been told the evolving plan for this pot of money is to write fewer but, larger checks
Target Global is firming up its bet on Barcelona’s entrepreneurs

Best Indestructible & Chew Proof Dog Collars
https://www.centralparkpaws.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/IMG_2381-2-300x247.jpg
Having had dogs as long as I have, there are few situations I am unfamiliar with.
However, chewing on collars is a new one.
Mirabelle (Mira for short), our new puppy, has brought this new challenge into our lives.
Mira does not chew on her collar but instead is interested in chewing on her sibling’s collars.  Though she is small, her tiny milk teeth can do some severe damage to the collars.
We do not leave our dogs’ collars on at home since they tend to wrestle, and it poses a danger. Also, when we are gone, we always remove collars as an additional safety precaution[1].
However, we still have their collars on when we go for walks, travel, or if they are tagging along running errands.
Since I don’t want to replace collars for my dogs every month until Mira grows out of this phase, I thought I would invest in three heavy-duty collars.
I am hoping this will be a one-time investment and that the collars will stand up to Mira’s torment for at least the next four to six months.
One of the Buckle-Down collars I went with
I love having a multi-dog household, but at times the financial responsibilities play a notable role in my decision making. Indestructible pet gear is worth the higher cost.
Because I needed to buy three collars (no one chews on Mira’s so she’s okay with the one she has) I had to find moderately priced highly durable options.
After finishing my research, I realized there were a lot of dog parents going through similar issues regarding dogs who chewed on their own or their sibling’s collars.
So, I thought it would be good to share my findings in the hope it would help other dog parents like myself.
Is your dog chewing up their bed too? Check out our roundup of the best indestructible dog beds!

Best Chew Proof Dog Collar for Medium Dogs
Buckle-Down Seatbelt Buckle Collar
Why It’s the Best Choice
Click the image for more info
I will admit this was already my favorite brand, and during my research, I was pleased to realize I already had some pretty durable collars.
I hadn’t originally purchased them for their durability, but instead because I liked the way they look.
The Buckle-Down dog collars are made with a 100% durable polyester material and a seatbelt buckle for easy release.
The Buckle-Down collars are a bit on the rigid side, but not so much that they cause skin irritation, so additional padding is not needed.
From personal experience, the collars have faded over the years but never frayed or ripped.
Also, I will admit I am not a fan of hand washing, so I have put the collars through the washing machine in a laundry bag, which is why the colors on some of the collars have faded.
That being said, it does speak loudly to how well they have held up. The collars above are ones I have had for over five years.
Since switching my dogs’ collars over to the Buckle-Down brand, there hasn’t been any damage from Mira.
What I Liked
Made with heavy-duty polyester
Easy on and off with the long-lasting metal seat belt buckle
Durable metal D-ring ensures your dog can’t break loose
Looks fantastic – We always get compliments on these collars
Comes in a variety of sizes and collar widths
What I Didn’t Like
They tend to be a bit spendy
The 1.5-inch width options are a bit heavy

Best Chew Proof Dog Collar for Large Dogs
REDLINEK-9
Why It’s the Best Choice
Click the image for more info
REDLINEK-9 is made from Latigo leather, which is both a rigid and robust leather.
The interior of the collar is lined with felt to ensure the leather doesn’t cause chafing or skin irritation. The collar has a leather easy-grip handle to aid in giving the handler control when a leash isn’t available.
The wide collar design aids in its overall durability.
The welded metal D-Ring will give confidence that it will not break if your large canine pulls or lunges.
The collar has a four adjustable point buckle providing a secure fit.
Though the collar is low profile and only comes in black, the detailed stitching gives it a nice finished appearance.
What I Liked
The heavy-duty Latigo leather
Sturdy metal buckle and D-ring
Soft felt liner
Ideal for strong breeds
What I Didn’t Like
Lack of breathability

Things to Consider When Looking for an Indestructible Dog Collar
There are several things to keep in mind when choosing the right indestructible dog collar.
Some of the features to consider are:
Durability
Though you want an indestructible collar, a dog’s chewing ability varies depending on dog size, age, and strength.
For example, Mira is only 17 weeks old and still has her very sharp milk-teeth but not a lot of jaw strength.
So, the damage to collars is usually in the form of ripping or fraying.
Though I need a durable collar for the other dogs in my house, I don’t need one as hearty as the Black Rhino or the REDLINEK-9.
And avoid flea & tick collars when you have a collar chewer!
Collar Width
Many of the durable collars are 1.5-inches wide; however, not all dogs can comfortably wear a collar of that width.
For example, Sophie coughs when she wears ones wider than one inch.
In addition to comfort, some dogs look better in collars not so wide.
Padding
Many of the durable collars are made with less flexible material so, padding will aid in ensuring ultimate comfort, especially for dogs with short hair.
D-Ring
It is best to find a collar with a metal D ring, especially if you have a powerful dog.
This will ensure they don’t break loose when pulling or lunging
Handle
Some of the tactical collars offer a handle on the collar. This is ideal for when you don’t have a leash or you require greater control up close and is safer for your fingers[2].
Buckle
A sturdy buckle is essential to an indestructible collar.
Metal buckles are best since they won’t crack under pressure.
Additionally, for safety, a quick release buckle is ideal.
Coat Length
Your dog’s coat plays a role in finding the ideal collar[3]. For dogs with longer hair, you may decide to choose a lightweight collar.
And for those with dogs with short hair and thin coats, making sure you get one with great padding is vital so the collar doesn’t chafe.
Conclusion
I have a hard time making just one recommendation since there are so many variables.
For people in my situation, who have a puppy with needle-sharp teeth but not a super strong bite, the Buckle-Down or Ruffwear would work perfectly. Also, for those who are looking for a collar with a bit more pizzazz than the solid earth tones colors, these brands offer a variety of patterns and bright colors.
For those pet parents like my friend Lisa, who has a German Shepard, a heartier collar like the Black Rhino or one of the tactical options would work best. He has long hair, so the leather collar wouldn’t be the best fit as it may become too warm.
So, unfortunately, I do not have just one recommendation for the best chew proof dog collar; it all depends on the type of chewing your dog is capable of as well as what would be the most comfortable.
