Would give me right eye for a rewrite where everything is the same except monkey king is super gay for the majority of the story. Still prefer he lets go of attachments and becomes a buddha in the end.

I mean there are some media he def has closer relations to his male counterparts than any women counterparts! Might have some luck there as I think the movies are being more cheeky with Wukong's lack of care with social graces. But I have yet to see an openly gay interpretation of with even with some of the closer relations in some movies.
