this might be going out on a limb...

but i always felt like in skam og (and subsequent remakes in which the jonas character is non-white, maybe even counting ‘garau with a u, it’s sardinian’ though i don’t quite recall much about italia or understand italian demographics) that part of the ‘risk’ of eva’s association with jonas beyond undermining her friendship with ingrid is that it also serves to undermine the mainstream presentation (in og the elimination of eva’s bergen accent) that ingrid has aided her with and that, considering most of their racially homogenous settings, jonas’s divergent race/ethnicity is used to drum up the suspicion the audience/characters feel towards him even before his initial failing (cheating on ingrid) has been fully exposed. 

we know race is a missed connection throughout og and most of the remakes, can anyone else see andem either inadvertently establishing this framework? 

building from that, i think that skam austin has very successfully re-imagined this dynamic for the US with their casting of a latinx eva (megan) against white jonas/ingrid (marlon/abby), particularly considering the texan setting, megan’s previous participation in the dance team under abby’s thumb, and marlon’s self-elected/declared artsy Otherness in the face of ‘jock’ culture, his privilege already evident in his condemnation of megan’s interest.
