Zum deutschen ESC-Vorentscheid:

Ryk, Isaak and NinetyNine fänd ich am Besten, aber überwiegend weil es solide Nummern sind die im Einheitsbrei verschwinden, ohne dass man sich groß dafür schämen muss. Ryk´s song is irgendwie der Beste, NinteyNine is bissl interessant und Isaak´s Stimme gefällt mir am besten von allen Songs bisher. Stimmlich gefallen mir alle drei.

Leona fand ich auch ok aber einen so ruhigen Song zu schicken fänd ich fatal. Andererseits mag ich den Titel sehr gern und eventuell schicken andere Länder dieses Jahr mehr Experimentelles als wir und ein ruhigerer Song wär da gut? Bin da sehr untentschlossen.

Mutzke auch solide aber irgendwie holt mich das gar nicht ab.

Bodine Monet bissl interessant aber sehr indie mainstream and zu sehr Tattoo-inspiriert irgendwie.

Ich bin keine Schlagermaus, also müssen wir über Marie Reim gar nicht reden, aber wie blöd ist der Song bitte? Wenn wir sie hinschicken bin ich nur froh dass niemand versteht worüber sie singt.

Alles in allem gefallen mir bis auf Naiv alle Songs aber keiner ist wirklich ESC-reif.

Und ein Song fehlt noch? Wenn der nicht besser ist als alles was wir bisher gehört haben rentiert sich das nichtmal den Vorentscheid zu gucken, ey.

Sag mal was du davon hältst. Bin ehrlich gesagt nichtmal sicher ob ich es dieses Jahr überhaupt gucke.

Could I have written all of this in English? Sure. But you don´t have to know everything. German Blast! (In conclusion: Germany will once again be losing ESC by a long shot because there is no risk and no fun anywhere - nothing to write home about but nothing to be ashamed of either.)

Galants Katzensong ist cool und sticht immerhin etwas raus, aus der bisherigen Auswahl mein Favorit (: endlich wieder was auf deutsch seit 2007 wäre ja auch was 😄 leider treten sie nicht mit ihrem Song tanzen 1-8 an, den finde ich viel besser als Katze. Aber damit könnte ich leben.

Max Mutzke ist gar nicht meins, das finde ich einfach nur öde.

Tears like rain ist ganz gut, finde es aber auch nicht interessant genug.

Oh Boy mag ich gar nicht, aber ich bin auch echt kein Balladen Fan (wenige Ausnahmen, paskana von Sara Siipola mag ich zum Beispiel richtig gern). Wird beim ESC wahrscheinlich schnell wieder vergessen sein und allein darum nix reißen 🙈

Was muss eigentlich mit einer Auswahl los sein, dass ich den Schlager gar nicht die schlechteste Wahl fände??🤣🙈🤣 Lied ist total bescheuert, versteh mich nicht falsch. Aber wenigstens nicht der gleiche Radio Pop Brei wie immer, das ist ein plus👍🏻 und den Text versteht eh kaum jemand 😄

Love on a budget ist nett, mehr kann ich dazu nicht sagen.

Yeah so in conclusion, most of this is boring, we will deserve last place. Only hope is that great Britain flops even more and they are sending Olly Alexander, so the back of the scoreboard will belong to Germany uncontested😂👍🏻 this is all way too safe and uninteresting, people don't vote for songs that are kind of Okei.

We've got another busy weekend coming up, with four countries choosing their Eurovision entries on Saturday - but just before that, Germany are holding their selection, Das Deutsche Finale, on Friday! Here's what I make of the songs:

Galant – Katze

Ryk – Oh Boy

Marie Reim – Naiv

Leona – Undream You

Bodine Monet – Tears like Rain

Floryan – Scars

NinetyNine – Love on a Budget

Max Mutzke – Forever Strong

Isaak – Always on the Run

Overall, this isn’t the most exciting selection. I understand wanting to play it safe after they took a big swing last year and it didn’t pay off in terms of results, but personally I loved Lord of the Lost and I’d much rather countries bring something interesting over songs that fade into the background.

That said, there are three songs here that I feel have promise. Firstly, my clear favourite is Katze. The minimalistic opening with its casual vocals leads into a really snappy song. I love the way the beat changes and develops through the song, and I especially like the sound of the tight, metallic plucked strings in the chorus. There’s so much potential for exciting visuals to go with it, they could keep it dark and minimalist or go full psychedelic, both would work.

I also quite like Oh Boy. It’s got a bit of of grandness to it with the inclusion of violins and the cinematic sound in the chorus, but it's not overwhelming, and I like the calmer place it sits in in the verses. I did admittedly overlook this one at first, it took me a couple of listens to get into it. However, I definitely thing it’s a strong song. Finally, the third song I like is Naiv. It really works for me, an upbeat bop with a slight rock edge that gets me into it!

I definitely think Germany should pick one of these three songs on Friday, everything else feels like a non-starter to me. Katze would be another bold choice, but because of that it could be a risk. I think Oh Boy has the most potential for Eurovision, if Ryk can deliver vocally it could be really powerful. And Naiv could also lend itself to a great performance with the energy it has. I’m a bit biased towards the German language songs, it’s been over twenty five years since Germany sent a song fully in German, and while I don’t think it should ever be an expectation I do like it when countries send songs in their own languages, at least once in a while. Whatever they select, I really hope that it’s enough to get them off the bottom of the scoreboard this year!

Letztes Wochenende war mal wieder mein persönlicher Auftakt für die aktuelle ESC Saison. Mit dem OGAE Clubtreffen beginnt für mich meist die Phase der "Vorbereitung", wir schauen bereits die ersten Teilnehmer anderer Länder an, beschäftigen uns mit dem deutschen Vorentscheid zwischen Wundern und doch immer wieder auch mit einem ganz zarten Pflänzchen Hoffnung *lach*.

Diesmal sind für Deutschland zwei bekannte KünstlerInnen am Start und ich wäre froh, wenn eine(r) davon unsere Nation in Schweden vertritt. Ich will diesmal keine Wildcard, kein junges unverbrauchtes Gesicht auf der ESC Bühne, sondern einen mehr oder weniger renommierten Act.

Mit Marie Reim und Max Mutzke sind zwei am Start, die bereits Bühenerfahrung haben, Max hat vor 20 Jahren ja bereits sehr erfolgreich einen 8. Platz erreichen können.

Weiter unten präsentiere ich beide.

Beim Clubtreffen hatten wir natürlich wie immer Besuch von ehemaligen ESC TeilnehmerInnen, meine größte Vorfreude war auf den Auftritt von Poli Genova und meine Erwartungen wurden sogar noch übertroffen! Sie war so "süß" und charmant, hat das Publikum gefühlt in jedem Atemzug mitgenommen und unterhalten mit ihren schmissigen Nummern, natürlich die beiden Beitrage aus den Jahren 2011 und 2016 und ein Lied auf Spanisch, hier das Video zum Auftritt von Na Inat:

Hello everyone! Today I have...the 8 (out of 9?) potential songs for Germany's slot in Eurovision in May.

So...8 of 9? Well, Germany has chosen to select the 9th act through "Ich Will Zum ESC!" which the winner will compete in "Das Deutsche Finale" along with the 8 songs I will rank for you right now!

Before I get to the ranking, I have a feeling that a topic of discussion will be the song "ICH KÜNDIGE" by GROSSSTADTGEFLÜSTER, which was rumored to be on the list, but is not. I will not be ranking this song in a "What if?" scenario, but I'm open to talking about this song in another post at a later date if people want.
