btw! I was made aware that many people don't know that we're boycotting Eurovision this year, so.
we are boycotting Eurovision, as per BDS guidelines.
don't watch the stream, don't engage with the videos, don't post it about it on social media using hashtags that are going to trend. whatever you're getting from the show isn't worth it

Eurovision is now lying about Israel and Russia. The Eurovision organiser EBU is suggesting Russia wasn’t banned due to invading Ukraine, a lie that even their own website disproves.
The EBU says the Israel situation is “fundamentally different” from Russia in 2022. They suggest they didn’t kick Russia out of Eurovision because they invaded Ukraine, they kicked Russia out of the EBU for unrelated reasons.
Tumblr media
Except… that’s not what happened! In 2022, the EBU had announced Russia would be kicked out of Eurovision “in light of the unprecedented crisis in Ukraine”.
Tumblr media
The Russian broadcasters responded to being booted from Eurovision by announcing their intention to withdraw from the EBU, which the EBU reported via their website.
So why are they now saying something else happened? It’s a lie. The EBU kicked Russia out of Eurovision before the Russian broadcasters left the EBU. This is clearly an attempt to distance themselves from their (quite right) decision to remove a country from Eurovision.
But the fact is, the EBU created a precedent for themselves of removing a country due to war and now they want to pretend that never happened so they don’t have to take action against Israel.

I know the only reason why Russia was banned was because other contestants refused to participate if they weren't removed. I know this. Which makes the fact that Israel continues to be part of Eurovision even more upsetting.
We've been calling for the removal of Israel for years. Nothing has ever been done but after this year you would think there would be some sense to at least pretend they care.
Tumblr media
In case you didn't know that's Icelandic group Hatari showing support for Palestine all the way back in 2019 when Israel was the host country for Eurovision. They were fined for infringing the ban on "political gestures". The Israel conversation isn't new but it has never been more obvious than now.

just a fair reminder to NOT participate in ANY eurovision content this year; don't listen to the songs, don't pirate the contest, don't watch it, don't hate watch it. NOTHING. give them nought but silence until Armenia and Palestine are free & the genocides are no longer ongoing!

Hey, y'all. Considering this is going into all the tags, some of you may have interacted with me on here, some of you may not, but regardless, I would appreciate your help.
I am in the process of writing my master's thesis, and I am doing a research on the topic. The topic being "The perception of Eurovision among young people-the music event in the context of entertainment and politics". Now, I very much know this is a very touchy topic right now. I also know many of you will be boycotting ESC this year, and this questionnaire is absolutely not here to discourage that. In fact, I am outright asking if you are boycotting ESC this year, because I think that's important for the research I'm doing.
Also, regarding the age, due to the ethical aspect, unfortunately only people who are 18+ can participate, as per my mentor's advice. Also please don't let "young people" discourage you from filling out the questionnaire, it was another recommendation I got due to the fact this website is primarily used by people 18-35, but if you are older, I'd still absolutely appreciate your input.
I don't usually asks for reblogs, but I'd appreciate it a lot if you could also reblog this because the bigger the sample, the better it's considered.
Anyway, the link to the questionnaire is here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdawkf8Q0_MFO34e_sFEXp-TXUj5d0lTtelplwIC-Cu0e6ZQA/viewform?usp=sf_link
It has 22 questions in total and it will be active until 5th of April. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask me in the notes or via ask. Thank you!

Warning: police brutality
At Emory University in Georgia, police violently arrested a number of faculty protestors, including an economics professor and the chair of the philosophy departmen (Media 4 and 5), and they tased an on-site media (Media 8). They shot rubber bullets and tear gas (Media 6 and 7).
It should be noted that these tactics of repression and violence are exchanged between US police departments and the IOF in occupied Palestine, with at least 69 cop cities having been built since 2020 to teach IOF tactics, using IOF trainers.
Students are undeterred, having set up a number of new liberated zones and refusing to back down (FIT, IU-Bloomington, UCLA, UT Arlington, Cornell, UH, UPenn, PSU, Stanford, and more) bringing the number of ongoing encampments to at least 50.

REMINDER TO BOYCOTT EUROVISION
Here's a quick run down of everything they've done + why you should boycott
Despite banning Russia for its actions in the Russia-Ukraine war, Israel is still in the contest (despite committing war crimes, attacking Gaza with genocidal intent etc)
"But Hamas attacked first on Oct.7" - Then why is Israel also bombing southern Lebanon if Hezbollah and the Lebanese government aren't involved?????
Israel often uses ESC as a platform for propaganda
One key example is their promotions for their 2019 broadcast, where they tried to turn attention away from the occupation and portray the country as a liberal haven of democracy, with the lines "... it's a land of war and occupation. But we have so much more than that!" and pointing out its the only place in the middle east where "gays are hugging in the street". (as if the rest of the Levant INCLUDING PALESTINE isn't actually relatively chill when it comes to gay rights)
Another example is them sending an Ethiopian Jewish singer to perform a song called "Set me Free" the same year they stormed Al-Aqsa during Ramadan, which seemed to be very intentionally trying to shift the narrative away from Israel as a colonial occupier, and more as a persecuted people who have finally found safety
As well as the issues with Israel as a competitor, ESC is SPONSORED by MoroccanOil, an Israeli company (ik the name is misleading, but speaking as a Moroccan Israel just really loves to steal our culture while treating our people they stole like shit [I could go on an entire rant ab this but I won't])
So what this means is we can't just boycott this year and then forget about it the next. Until Israeli presence is completely removed from EUROVISION, your views and your money will be funnelled to support an Apartheid regime. I already know people who are still watching Eurovision despite not supporting the occupation, because they love the artists and the spectacle. But no spectacle is worth supporting an Apartheid regime. The best way we can help the Palestinians is by making Israel a pariah state, and pressuring politicians to cut all their funding. That way they won't be able to put down uprisings and maintain the brutal police state they have - at which point they can only resolve the conflict peacefully and end occupation, or find themselves in the throw of a violent revolution. It was these strategies that ultimately helped end the apartheid regime in South Africa, and it is these strategies which can help end Israeli apartheid.

i won't be watching eurovision this year, i was leaning pretty heavily to not watching but BDS have officially called for a boycott.
for russia to be barred from performing since their invasion of ukraine (in the words of the contest as it would bring themselves into "disrepute"), but for a blind eye to be turned to the genocide being committed in front of our eyes is flagrantly eurocentric and upholds the dehumanisation and colonisation of the middle east that is at the heart of the tragedy currently unfolding in palestine. as with all other boycotts this is one of the easiest ways to show support for palestine. like it takes 0 effort or money or time to just not watch
free palestine 🇵🇸

we interrupt this regularly scheduled dashboard to remind you that the eurovision song contest is one of the biggest platforms in the world, and israel is still included and accepted as a participant.
we don't have to take that laying down. after immense pressure from people and broadcasters alike, russia was banned in 2022 for their invasion of ukraine. if we put pressure on broadcasters to do the same for israel, it is possible that we will succeed. already, iceland has threatened to potentially withdraw over israel's inclusion. other countries might follow. please, watch this video and join in the call to action. the video includes ways to contact every single broadcaster, sponsor and artist participating in eurovision 2024.
