hey, you guys remember the Mishapocalypse?
what if that, but like...Nicolas Cage?
...no no, wait, hold on, hear me out!
so, Nicolas Cage has a movie coming out this year that I’ve been losing my mind over for a couple days now. the trailer is one of the funniest things I’ve seen recently, and I have no idea how to handle it. I mean, he plays a fictionalized version of himself! it looks like it’s gonna be horrible! I can’t wait to watch it!
and it comes out on April 22nd of this year
Tumblr media
now, in my recent quest to understand the appeal of Nicolas Cage, I was looking at old photo shoots of his, including this one from 2005.
upon seeing one of these images, my dear friend and confidant @wonderbound made this absolutely groundbreaking observation:
Tumblr media
and thus, the Nickapocalypse was born.
but you might be wondering - what image inspired such a reaction?
well
Tumblr media
this one. it was this one.
so on April 22nd, 2022, I will be changing my icon to this image. it’s haunting, and it stares into your soul, and it actually looks really good as an icon tbh
Tumblr media
and if you want to? you should join me! because fuck it, that’s why!
it’s 2022! things are a mess! everything is chaos and nothing makes sense - much like every acting choice Nicolas Cage has ever made.
and we love him for it. so let’s just fucking go for it!
Nickapocalypse 2022. one day only.
let’s confuse as many people as we possibly can

just got home from seeing "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent". It is genuinely a great movie. Hilarious. Dramatic. Moving. Seriously. It's a fascinating meta-textual thing that explores the burdens of being a professional actor on the family while telling interesting stories and being weird and poking fun at Nic Cage and people's fandom of him.
This movie and "The Lost City" starring Channing Tatum, Sandra Bullock, and Daniel Radcliffe have been some of my favorite movies recently because they take their stories seriously without taking themselves too seriously. Like, the creative team seems to have been able to make the movie tell the story they wanted to tell without being too worried about all the marketing, broad audience appeal, profit maximizing stuff, and it pays off. Or at least I hope it does.

So I had a pretty terrible week ( like I cried almost every day) and this morning I woke up and saw that Nicapocalypse and frog were just randomly trending on Tumblr and it just made me....happy?? And even if it was only for a little while, I was still free from the soul-crushing agony and anxiety I've been experiencing these past few days. I don't really understand it myself but it just made me feel better.
I swear Tumblr and YouTube are the only apps producing serotonin in my body right now. And even though Tumblr's algorithm or whatever sucks and I'm really new to this site and I still don't know how everything works, Tumblr makes me happy.
And isn't that what social media was created for? To not only connect friends and family, but also random strangers celebrating the small event or fact or series that they enjoy together. To spread happiness and laughs and...okay...sometimes some grotesquely-violent-but-in-a-funny-way tendencies?
That's all I had to say. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
