﴾ ☄ ﴿ — . Phone in hand, Kaito followed the directions given. It was a pain in the ass trying to figure out which way this tiny blue arrow wanted him to go, but he was figuring it out. It took him about 10 minutes of walking in circles before he had finally managed to figure out which road to take. Now, he was at the corner of his destination; Euphoria. Club Euphoria to be exact. This space traveler in training needed a job to survive and he didn’t know of any space programs in existence here. So, here he was job hunting with his other talents ready for display, aka his handsomeness.
Stepping through the door, music could be heard bopping in the background. There were plenty of tables occupied by pairs, some with extended parties ordering bottles of champagne, it was a busy night it seemed. Kaito waited at the host’s desk, he had no appointment nor knew the name of the manager. He had to ask someone.

mikazuki finds himself stopping and staring at the green haired stranger who happens to be strolling nearby. a strange sense of comraderie, familiarity passes through him and, although it’s extremely rude, he continues watching the caped man.
ah.
he makes his decision. he decides to stop staring. he walks towards the stranger instead.
as usual, there is a smile on his face. a smile that refuses to disappear despite how crazy things are, despite how foreign everything is. when he’s close, he bows (he would have felt terrible if he didn’t) and says, in a cheerful greeting, “good evening, my name is mikazuki munechika. nice to meet you.” he speaks politely, almost too politely some friends might say (if he had any friends).
“ahahaha,” he lets out a soft laugh right after, one arm shielding immediately his face as he does. his smile widens as he looks into the man’s multicolored eyes. “i’m sorry, i find you familiar,” he explains, his guard and formality relaxing slightly, “even though I’m certain we’ve never met.”
he stops speaking momentarily. his head tilts slightly. his hand touches his chin delicately. “mm…”

Well, this was certainly... Inconvenient. Although they’d been nice enough to provide him with housing... They were also his captors, so really housing was a bit of a mute point... Not to mention the fact that he didn’t even need it, necessarily.
Thus, he left, wandering aimlessly. At first, he attempted to go into his spiritualism form in order to avoid talking with others... However, not only could he not feel the goddess’s power coursing through him... He also wasn’t. ‘Glowing’ as he usually does in his true form.
...Ah. Right, he doesn’t have that anymore.
He does have a... Useless wooden sword that pales in comparison to his usual armory... However that’s about it... Oh, and he supposes he can levitate, but... That would draw too much attention... Wait. Is he basically human? He feels himself almost wretch in disgust... Does he need to eat?? ...Maybe he should ask someone else about this...
He looks around himself until he sees a dark haired person... He doesn’t actually care what they’re doing, actually, regardless, he seems... Like he may not have been human before? Truly Richter may have been stretching it, but... He was panicking a little.
✚ -「“Excuse me.”」 He says, walking closer to him.「“...Are you human?”」 He asks with a slightly nervous tone of voice... He hopes that doesn’t seem as though he’s afraid of non humans-.

“Nikkari Aoe!” It had to be. It had to be, and if it wasn’t -- then who else was capable of such a beguiling smile, a smile that seemed to say it had tales to tell. Hizamaru felt awkward scrambling after the first familiar face in the throng of the crowd, a myriad of advertisements ( cafes, hotels, sales ) that he couldn’t refuse spilling neatly onto the streets from his hands like a trail of forgotten memories as he chased. Too many had approached him for reasons he couldn’t quite place yet, but he’d had no time to heed the written requests. ( Maid cafe? )
“Nikkari... “ His voice was hoarse, and uneven, and it wasn’t like the prized treasure of the Genji to be so disheveled and out of sorts. But treasures were usually revered and kept in good hands -- they weren’t tossed into the unknown without instruction. “Finally. Someone reliable... ! Then, I take it... you were also misplaced in this period? How inconvenient... -- still, tell me. Have you heard anything from our Master?”

it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a–?!
As he drifted lazily along on the wind currents overhead the Archimedes Ward, Azazel’s first thought was that the marbled district below reminded him distantly of (a perhaps less opulent) Vanaheimr.
He couldn’t put his finger on what it might have been specifically. Perhaps it was simply the pristine whiteness of the place; Vanaheimr, too, had always exuded a sort of sterile “beauty.” Immaculateness to the point of artificiality...a false paradise for blithering, sanctimonious fools.
“......”
Ugh...he’d come here for the purpose of investigation and reconnaissance, but after drawing that parallel, Azazel was having difficulty seeing the cityscape below him any other way. How unpleasant... The association alone made his skin crawl and his claws itch with the desire to smash something–anything–if only to break the illusion of utopian “perfection”... Perhaps he ought leave this district for last? It’d be a waste of a flight over from the Fibonacci Ward, to be sure, but–
Movement in his peripheral suddenly drew his attention. Azazel’s brow furrowed some in confusion; a bird, perhaps? How strange. Common fowl normally had the good sense to offer his ilk a wide berth in the skies...
Curious, he turned his head to confirm his thoughts–
–and promptly found himself looking at some kind of...cone-like object? The body was distinctly-bird like, but the head was like no species of bird Azazel had ever seen. Moreover, was it his imagination, or was it looking directly at him–?
「 NANTS INGONYAMA BAGITHI BABA 」
“–?!”
Without warning, the “bird” suddenly emitted an ear-splitting shriek–one so loud and so startling, in fact, that it managed to stagger the fallen angel in the air. Ears ringing, Azazel beat his wings frantically in an effort to put some distance between himself and the creature, eventually going so far as to lower his altitude, and–ah, that was a bit too low, but...oh, well. He’d intended to explore this wretched place on foot eventually.
Better to get it out of the way now.

Random Discovery!!!
So, I'm a newbie to the fandom of TKRB and to their musicals and stages. As I continue to watch their perfomances (to be familiarize with the new fandom which is the 2.5D), a random thought popped into my mind and thought, "I wonder if Araki san also wear mismatched contact lens" but I kinda brush it off and thinks it wouldn't be necessary. But it really bothered me and it disturb my mind XDDDD and I was finding scenes to see his other eye if it is red. And luckily, I found it XDDD
I was currently listening (and watching) to the SRS 2017 while I'm studying for our exams these days (and I've come to appreciate Sato Ryuji here and their dance steps in the song Mistake can be a good references for practicing anatomy loool XDD Sato Ryuji's(since I don't know which name to use to be polite lol) voice here is really incredible! I really appreciate him here (we have a term in our dialect for his coice but I don't know what its english term but I kinda like it. Anyway, let's go back to the main point lol)
I. FINALLY. FIND. IT!!!(Capslock for intensity of my excitement)
In their SRS 2017, in their (Ishi Kari hueheuheue) song Te no Hira (Palm of the Hand), the moment he turn while staring at his hands which was touched by Imano, somewhere 2:01:40 or 2:01:41!!! In those points, if you carefully and attentively(?) watch/stare or wait for it, you can see a quick view of his other eye because of the gap of his hair to his face aaaaandddd, IT IS REEEEED! OH MYSOANDIQJSJSMAQOHX
I'm just happy to my discovery lol XDD I mean, some might already know and discover it but heey, it gives me a great feeling of accomplishment lol XDDD
I love his red eye so much and I really think it's cool~ Hanamaru made it cool, in my opinion, especially in the scenes of the episode where it is zoom or focus 🥺 it's truly beautiful~
And now that I have discovered it, I'll go back studying~

At the beginning of their song Palm of the Hand, I feel like Ishi and Nikkari are flirting with each other XDDD plus the ending!!! They look like a family 🥰

Appreciation Post: “Touken Ranbu ~Hanamaru~”
I was just re-watching "Touken Ranbu ~Hanamaru~" and am writing this post because I feel like I didn't fully appreciate it as it was airing? xD
Not gonna lie, one of the reasons why I'm re-watching it is because my heart is currently broken from "Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu", and I just wanted silly citadel shenanigans to soothe the pain while waiting anxiously for the next episode. LOL!
As a brief introduction, "Touken Ranbu ~Hanamaru~" is the first anime adaptation of the online browser game "Touken Ranbu" which tells of the daily lives of the sword boys in the citadel. Just some points of clarification:
It is NOT the prequel to "Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu"; both anime are produced by entirely different companies and are completely separate entities. "Touken Ranbu ~Hanamaru~" is produced by Doga Kobo, Inc. while "Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu" is produced by Ufotable. Therefore, you don't have to watch one to understand the other.
Unlike "Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu", which is an anime of the historical/fantasy genre, "Touken Ranbu ~Hanamaru~" is a slice of life anime, and as its genre suggests, its story and plot focuses on the lives of the sword boys as they go about their daily routine in the citadel.
So why the sudden inspiration to post about "Touken Ranbu ~Hanamaru~" (henceforth known as "Hanamaru")? "Hanamaru" was actually my introduction to the world of Touken Ranbu, so when I first watched it, I didn't have a very good grasp on the source material that it was adapted from and I wasn't very familiar with the world it was trying to introduce to us.
Now, I'm still a newbie to Touken Ranbu in general, but I am more familiar with Touken Ranbu (for one, I am now a game saniwa with my own citadel xD), and upon re-watching it with what I know now, it feels like I'm watching it with completely new eyes.
I didn't realise back then how well "Hanamaru" truly captured the world of Touken Ranbu and the charm that has made this franchise so beloved. In its structure alone, it is actually quite loyal to the game where the daily lives of the sword boys involve:
front line departures and the conflicts that come with needing to protect history
expeditions
internal affairs, like horsekeeping, fieldwork and sparring
"Hanamaru" manages to balance all of these elements, tying them back to the shenanigans in the citadel; watching the anime, it's easy to imagine your own citadel being like this as you send teams out to the front lines or assign the sword boys to fieldwork while others are left to their own devices.
Then, we have the little game play Easter Eggs that are scattered throughout the anime, bits and pieces of information that add to the enjoyment of the anime if you're playing the game. As an example, in Episode 01 alone:
Yamatonokami Yasusasa is assigned as the captain of the team sent to the front lines despite being a new sword; this is in keeping with the game strategy of putting a new sword as the captain to capitalise on the captain bonus experience points.
Yasusada is also given an omamori because as the lowest level sword that is being sent to a high level difficulty map, there is a very high chance of Yasusada breaking.
Along with Yasusada, Kashuu Kiyomitsu (starter sword) as well as Imanotsurugi, Nikkari Aoe and Namazuo Toushirou are sent on the mission as well. All the swords are also older swords that have been in the citadel for quite some time (as indicated by the numbers that we are shown in the anime corresponding to the time of their appearance in the citadel), which means that they are probably of moderate to high levels, and this acts as a support for Yasusada's low level.
Kiyomitsu (uchigatana), Imanotsurugi (tantou), Nikkari (wakizashi) and Namazuo (wakizashi), are also the sword types that are most advantageous for a battle at Ikedaya (which takes place at night in a narrow space).
However, Ishikirimaru is also assigned to the team, and this is implied to be a mistake. In fact, it is a common mistake that is often made by new saniwa mainly because, at that point, it is highly likely that the saniwa has yet to acquire any other oodachi other than Ishikirimaru which makes Ishikirimaru one of the main power houses of the citadel, and so, it is makes sense to send Ishikirimaru to one of the hardest maps in the game (the Hanamaru is said to be a fairly new saniwa who doesn't even have a year of experience under their belt; in the anime, Kiyomitsu remarks that not even a year has passed since he began living in the citadel). However, more experienced game players would know that because of the conditions in Ikedaya, sending Ishikirimaru is a mistake as the conditions are unfavourable for oodachi, which lowers their effectiveness and makes them more vulnerable to enemy attacks.
And this is only for Episode 01. Aside from this, the anime also deals with the emotional repercussions and real life implications of the game play, including:
the conflict that the swords face when they are sent back to their own time to protect history (which is often the main theme covered in most of the Touken Ranbu adaptations)
the feelings of the swords as they wait for someone who has yet to be found or who are involved in the forging of a new sword, hoping against hope that it's the loved one that they've been waiting for (such as the Awataguchi brothers waiting for Ichigo Hitofuri and Horikawa Kunihiro praying fervently for Izuminokami Kanesada)
the feelings of the existing swords who have to deal with the fact that they will be living with more new swords (like Kiyomitsu who becomes insecure at being replaced once Mikazuki Munechika arrives at the citadel and who is immediately made captain)
The anime is fun, silly and light-hearted (The Udon Song anyone? xD), but it also contains a lot of emotion and heart that makes you feel for your own swords and think of what they must be feeling over the decisions you make as a saniwa during your game play. And it is this mixture that makes it so endearing because the world of Touken Ranbu has the potential to be dramatic, painful and angsty, but with such a varied cast of swords that are so distinct and different with very colourful personalities, it also has the potential to be ridiculous, fun-filled and very entertaining; and it is this world that Hanamaru invites us to live in, presenting us with interactions between swords expanding beyond their in-game interactions (along with cheeky meta references to our world because never forget that the saniwa comes from our time and our world xDDDD).
To top this off, “Hanamaru” manages to build organic and authentic relationships between the sword boys, even between those from different groups, which makes their shenanigans even more fun to watch (Touken Danshi Majirunrun Gokigenmaru! xD). The anime also acknowledges existing conflict (like that of the one between Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki and Nagasone Kotetsu), but it also never forgets that the boys are all comrades in this age and it never lets the conflict ruin the relationships between the sword boys; in spite of their arguments, you never stop believing that they care about each other, which leads to some of the most rewarding and heart-warming character moments (Mutsunokami and Nagasone working together in the last episode was so much love ♥).
Additionally, "Hanamaru" also understands that one of the biggest charms of Touken Ranbu is the characters' backstories, which range from the historical to the mystical. And while the anime may not have the time or space to devote to telling these stories in depth, it also doesn't ignore this aspect of the franchise. Instead, we are treated with the designs of the different ending sequences visually narrating these stories (with the bonus of the characters’ respective seiyuu singing the different ending songs).

So yes, I am now thoroughly enjoying my re-watch of "Hanamaru", and truly appreciating all the thought, detail and love that was put into this anime in its crafting (forging? LOL). For fans who are already somewhat familiar with the world of Touken Ranbu (or who, like me, have become more familiar since you first watched "Hanamaru"), I would truly recommend a re-watch of this anime.
On that note, I really cannot wait for Season 02! ♥
