My gf has been rewatching Glee while she works on a jigsaw puzzle all weekend. (She just hit the fucking Rocky Horror episode 🥴)

Two things I’ve learned:

1. The post-Glee fandom PTSD still lingers lmao

2. I have retained an embarrassing amount of plot knowledge, BTS trivia, and fandom history despite absconding from the fandom over a decade ago

Also hi if you’ve just started following me in the past handful of years, I used to be a Z-list Tumblr celebrity dedicated to the Glee fandom, specifically Brittana. We all fought in the trenches for years against Ryan Murphy’s crazy ass so that those Cheerios could get married by the end of the series, y’all are welcome.

It’s been nearly a decade since I last drew Naya. I didn’t think her death would be the reason why I would be drawing her again.

Thank you, Naya, for sharing your beautiful talents with us and for embracing so many young queer fans who saw themselves in Santana Lopez and for fighting to make Brittana a real thing. Thank you for playing a character that led to me meeting so many wonderful people and fellow fans over the years, a large handful who I still remain good friends with a decade later and will for many years to come.

You’ll be sorely missed, but never forgotten. RIP Naya.

hey joy, this news today has really had me in a Mood. reminiscing and stuff, you know? naya had a huge impact on my life but i also just wanted to say that i also kind of looked up to you as well. because the glee fandom was really the first lgbt community i was part of and as a fifteen year old, seeing santana on my screen and seeing people like you just. living your life really gave me hope. and most days that's all that kept me going. thanks for being you, friend.

I’ve been letting this sit in my inbox for the past two days because it hits me square in the chest every time I read it.

I’m so glad this silly blog with my wacky Brittana drawings was a place where you could feel comfort and learn to love who you were and keep you going.

I've also never had a tumblr but have been lurking for damn near a decade. Originally found your tumblr through a hilarious Bronx Brittana video someone linked. When I heard about Naya, this is the first place I came to. No one I know in real life gets just how much this hurts. I don't think anyone who wasn't a closeted queer girl will ever truly get just how much Santana and Naya meant. She MADE that show and she helped a generation of girls not only accept, but be happy with who they were.

It means a lot to me that you (and a shocking number of others!) came here first. I’m so glad my blog was a space where people could find comfort and bond over our love for Naya and all she did for us and how much more comfortable we all are in our own skin after Santana and how well Naya portrayed her story. The Glee fandom is so far in my rear window that it feels like a different life, but it’s been humbling and wonderful to see us all come together and grieve and check on each other. I wish Naya could see the impact she’s had. I think she understood it to a degree, but I hope her family at least, and especially her son when he gets older, can find peace knowing she had such a profoundly positive impact and presence in all our lives.
