Taipei Houston - Once Bit Never Bored
Even though it was just about two decades ago, the garage-rock revival feels a lot older than it really was. I remember when indie-rock dominated the rock charts in the mid-00s, and that’s when it really peaked. Bands like MGMT, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, The Killers, The Strokes, Phoenix, and many more bands were huge. It all came tumbling down eventually, namely that people were just sick of it, and a lot of hip-hop, pop, and R&B ended up becoming more popular. History always kinds of repeats itself, because now we’ve got a revival of rock and guitar-based music getting popular in the mainstream again, thanks to artists like Willow and MGK, although I can’t stand the latter whatsoever, who are playing pop-punk and rock-based music. It’s back, but a lot of the heavy hitters are back, too, such as The Arctic Monkeys, Phoenix, The Killers, The Black Keys, and a lot more. Since then, we’ve also had a few bands come up that have a similar sound to these bands, such as Royal Blood and Rival Sons, but they aren’t household names. We also have some very new bands, and if they play their cards right, they could be utterly huge.
The band I’m talking about in question is Taipei Houston, comprised of brothers Myles and Layne Ulrich (yes, that Ulrich, of tennis stardom and Metallica fame) is making some waves with their debut album, Once Bit Never Bored. These two brothers don’t sound like they’re cut from the same cloth as their father, because they have a completely different sound. Instead of being in the heavy metal world, these guys are a blues and garage-rock band, even only including bass, drums, and vocals. Despite that, this album has some of the best and fuzziest riffs I’ve heard all year. It’s interesting how this band has a very nostalgic sound, harkening back to the early 00s garage-rock revival, but it sounds fantastic. This album is only 32 minutes, but it’s so quick, you won’t even realize it’s done. A lot of the songs do sound similar, and its repetitive sound is one of my small issues with it, but man, this album rules.
It’s a catchy little blues-rock / garage-rock album, even if it’s nothing unique or special, it just shows great promise for these two brothers. The vocals are great, and kind of remind me of Jack White from The White Stripes at times, or just that general indie / garage-rock singer voice that all of these bands had back then, but also being interesting and good, versus generic and boring. The instrumentation is a ton of fun, and this album has some great riffs and hooks, even if they’re nothing unique, and they kind of repeat themselves over its 32-minute runtime. I’ve been playing this album a lot, because it’s so much fun. There’s a lot of energy here, and I can appreciate an album with a lot of energy, even if it doesn’t reinvent the wheel. This album doesn’t, and it kind of leans into its nostalgic sound a little too much at times, but it still works well, because it’s a focused and quick album that really catches your attention. I’d recommend it if you want some slick, fun, and catchy indie / blues-rock. I don’t it will end up in the top ten of my yearend list, but it’ll be on the list somewhere, that’s how much I absolutely enjoy this thing.

so ive been a fan of danganronpa for a while now, i think i got into it late 2018, and basically since i got up to chapter 2 of thh togami became my favourite character and he's been my fave ever since, and much of my time was spent largely thinking about it on my own. and due to that i was stuck in my own head with very little fandom content to supply my mind. so because of this there was a time where i had went through all of togami's main ships and when i realised i had exhausted all the content for that ship i would move on. during all my time i ended up at one point or another shipping togami with all the survivors, a couple characters from the main game, and even an oc, but not once have i ever shipped him with toko. and i think thats hilarious. like even i, who was starving for content, didn;t touch it with a 10 foot pole

You know, I have to finally haul my ass to the arcade, that opened in one of malls in my city two years ago, and get a membership card. They have a shitload of games there including rhythm ones. I love rhythm games. 💜
