If you told me like, 15 years ago that in the year 2023 the day after my 32nd birthday I'd be posting on tumblr about how much I love my collection of Neopets I'd have probably scoffed at the very idea. Truthfully I'd probably have said "yea, sounds about right." but that's not as funny.

But man, I know I get really invested in some for chunks of time and then lose interest and stop doing things consistently a lot, such is the nature of hyper-fixations and ADHD, but there's just something so peaceful about doing my daily things on Neopets and poking around the Discord community. Being able to have achieved so many childhood goals this year has given me such an odd sense of accomplishment in a way. Like I'd posted about before, one of my original pets to this account (Not my very first account, that ones is long forgotten sadly. But this is the "new" account I'd made back in high school when I was in a nostalgic "I want to do shit I did as a kid" phase, kinda ahead of the nostalgic craze on that one eh?) is xSpifftasticx who was a yellow Lenny (5,939 days old) that I'd always wanted to paint Pink, but could never afford the paint brush. The older community surrounding Neopets now is so friendly and helpful and there's so much more information out there how to do activities and stuff that I never understood as a kid it's just. I don't even know how to word it. Just amazing to be able to actually work towards a goal in the game and achieve it.

The other OG to this account pets are oo_Chaos_oo the mutant Hissi (5,938 days old) and xx_Kryll_xx the Christmas Kyrii (5,475 days old), and their names are just so much a product of the time and I love it. So much so that I felt like not naming my other pets with some combination of underscores, x's, or other symbols would be an injustice to the whole vibe of my account 😂

I'm just so happy to have started playing again just before the whole Faerie Festival thing because completing the quests got me to get a bunch of fountain fairy dips that got me pretty much every other customized pet. Except for _JackTheLass_ who was a morphing potion gift from a user on the Discord, and x_NiteMare_x who was painted from getting a Halloween paint brush from the trick or treat bags.

This is a long pointless post tbh, and maybe I should just not add all this nonsense to it because it ruins the aesthetic of it but whatever. I'm far from an aesthetic blog lmao I'm just feeling sappy or some shit. I slapped a read more on it, good enough lmao Anyways, here's to 16 years on Neopets, and to 16+ more!

Review Kyrri? My first neopet.

Kyrii are vaguely weasel-like, but that's probably not what you remember them for. If you're like me, you remember them for A) having extremely luxurious manes, and B) being smug and vaguely conniving. The design itself is fine albeit somewhat plain, but it's those additional traits that help them stand out a bit. (They're also allergic to apples—not the only species with an allergy to a certain food, but I feel like they get it played up the most.)

Visually, Kyrii have a standard bipedal pose with a complimentary lighter tint of the main color used for the underbelly, including the jaw, and the inside of their ears, which have a nice teardrop shape to them. The mane, arguably the driving concept behind the species, is also very pretty, having lots of curves and swishes to it that really give it that full, rich look. I also like how the tail and the mane are one unit, so the tail looks like the hair and vice versa.

In terms of customization, Kyrii got the short of the stick. They're not the worst by a long shot, but the big problem here is the face. It's too short, too wide, a little too round, and it doesn't taper the way it should. Technically speaking it's a subtle difference, but it really does majorly change the way the species looks, and not in a good way. They also lost that vaguely smug look, possibly due to having the head turned upwards more.

On top of the face, the body also got a bit screwed up, as both the stomach and forearms became too bulky, whereas originally the Kyrii was a pretty lanky species. Other odd decisions including running the underbelly up onto the jaw, which kind of affects the way the mouth reads even if it has a nice shape to it, and reducing the amount of shine in the mane. On the plus side, the mane itself at least looks better—it's much fuller than it was originally and the really janky shape of the fur on top of the head has been majorly improved.

Favorite Colours:

Royal: Royal Kyrii are a good example of how badly customization messed up the species, as they went from being quite beautiful to incredibly awkward, in part due to their faces being too wide and round and in part due to some weird decisions on the clothing (such as the Royal Boy loosing his cape and large sleeves and the Royal Girl loosing the entire back of her dress in addition to her hair braids no longer wrapping around the back of her head).

However, the original designs are fantastic! Both versions are good and have their own unique flavor (something royal pets sometimes struggle with). The Royal Girl has a lovely elegant look with a long muzzle, pretty dress, and a very nice turquoise and white color palette. The Royal Boy has a primarily maroon palette with an extra over-the-top mane and a vaguely swordsman-like outfit.

The poses are also full of personality, especially with the long-defunct battledome art bring us these gems:

Pastel: Pastel pets are usually just taking a pet and applying pastel colors to the design as-is, so the pastel Kyrii really stands out by having the addition of stripes added to its mane. This gives it a very distinct look and adds a fun rainbow aspect to the design. The palette itself is also nice, juggling five colors at once without it feeling overwhelming or too busy. Just really nice!

Water: Water is a very hit-or-miss colour and it depends entirely on how good the art is, but thankfully they really nailed it with the water Kyrii. The white-foam mane draws attention to the most important part of the design and has a good amount of depth, especially int he darker areas at the base, while the body has a nice subtle gradient, highlights, bubbles, and ripples to give it that water-y feeling.

I had a thought last night. I've been quietly accumulating funds from FC and dailies and everything else and I'm still sitting comfortably above 100M in the bank. But for what? What am I waiting for? So I decided it's time to really start treating myself and my pets.

First up: petpets.

Most of my petpets have been attached for so long that I can't bear the thought of removing them for something that matches better. They are just as integral to my pets as the pets themselves. But I have some new pets and new petpets that I can try to get that aesthetic going.

PPPBs are still a little expensive, but I'm tired of waiting around for stuff to maybe get a little cheaper. Live now!

Retribution was from the AC 2022 on my (now) faux MSP Poogle. I wasn't sure what color I wanted to paint him, but I settled on a nice, classic red. Ferny is attached to my Pastel Usul who was made in desperation when the Faerie Festival was giving out Rainbow Fountain dips left and right.

Look at those cuties! I like the yellow/red and red/yellow combo for my Poogle and Meowclops, and I thought my Usul with the Spring Symol looked really nice together.

My last pet to need a partner is my Faerie Ixi and I've been combing JN's Petpet Matcher to find a good candidate. I just went through all of the available petpets and I have a good selection to narrow down from.

On the pets front, I'm back to zapping pound pets for adoption, whether repounding them or going for ZYDP adoptions. I had a Kyrii with a decent name who got zapped into Swamp Gas, so back to the pound he went! I snagged a Pteri with what I think is a super cute name, so we'll see what I'm able to get them.
