I am changing “State Pantheon” to “Rites of Humanity,” I feel like the latter name sounds more appropriate and is clearer about it being this kind of goofy French Revolutionary cult-of-reason “secular religion.”
because that’s basically what it is, at least on the surface - a Stardew Valley type non-denominational celebration of spring growth and autumn harvest, solstices and equinoxes - ritual for ritual’s sake, yet no less sincere for it (or so its practitioners claim).
Underneath the surface level with which most people are familiar, there is a collection of texts known as the Anonymous Codices, a series of extended historical metaphors centered around the Sovereign, an embodiment of state power in the manner of kings and emperors, a single and singular figure who can personify the abstract and thus grant it legitimacy. “The Sovereign is dead,” the famous opening of the Anonymous Codices, is intended in the same sense as Nietzsche’s “God is dead” - that is to say, in the post-pre-digital world of 206X, the idea of a ‘head of state’ embodying the will of a certain geographic region is starting to sound as obsolete and parochial as theocratic rule.
If you’re thinking to yourself “that sounds like it has nothing to do with the first thing,” you’re right. The Rites of Humanity were originally tacked on at the end of the Codices as a sort of “now that we’re all depressed, maybe we’ll feel better if we contemplate the sun or something.” Several years later, the bestselling self help book Get Peasantpilled drew extensive inspiration from the Rites of Humanity and everyone forgot about all of the dour and ponderous philosophy that was attached to it. Ain’t that how it always goes?

Had a real peasantpilled moment at work today. Backstory is, my current worksite is in the laundry room in this fancy hotel. I was ironing sheets and folding pillowcases all day. The iron was this big conveyor belt thing that ironed and folded the sheets. The iron was 210°f. The current weather outside is 90°f. All in all, I was extremely hot the entire time.
Anyway, one of the housekeepers comes down and tells us to prepare a ton of towels because she just saw like, 8 children go into the pool.
I'm standing there, sweating bad enough that the waistband to my pants is damp, my feet are aching because I wore the wrong kind of shoes for the job and they have no anti-fatigue mats, trying to drink enough water to replace all that I'm sweating out, and it really brought me to serfdom, guys(gn.)

Wait, what did you mean about the coherency thing in don Quixote?
oh lol well there is some academic debate about it (when is there not tbh) but from what i saw don quijote's conduct in the books was like 65% earnest delusion but also like 35% self-awareness like there are hints here and there that he might be more lucid than the narrative will have you believe but is keeping up all the knighthood stuff for the sake of committing to a bit
whereas most of that 4chan post reads like the OP was just taking the piss ironically to annoy people around them but at least 40-45% of it betrays a sort of sincere belief about the concept of peasantpilling and it is fascinating

Hey heads up, op of the peasantpill post is crypto fash
I'll be perfectly honest I went and looked at their blog and saw literally zero cryptofash red flags (unless... posting 4chan Screencaps itself is what you're basing it on) but they do openly reblog from radfems so I'll be deleting the post regardless
