Hi! I was just curious if you had any advice or resources you'd recommend for someone who's mouse just gave birth (from a surprise pregnancy)? I'm mainly trying to figure out when/ how I'm allowed to handle the babies. Sources I've seen vary so much! I'm just trying to avoid momma eating her babies. I already accidentally disturbed the nest as she was giving birth. I turned off all the lights & left the room. But, she didn't have a real nest anyway as I got her the day before! Any advice? ❤️
Heya! Congrats on your peepbeeps! So first things first- the reason the answer varies so much is because individual mice are individuals. A line bred for calm nature will let you play with babies and not give a single heck, where a more skittish momma may kick individual babies out, or even eat them unfortunately! So it honestly depends on your individual momma, but if I had to say a ‘safe date’ it’d be at week two! The babies are more independent and cleaning themselves and it’s allover just a hardier time for them (but watch out, they JUMP!!! )As for advice, my main is to just feed feed feed!Try giving her oats to increase her lactation, black oil sunflower seeds to increase her fat, and cereals for texture enrichment while nursing the beeps Also!!!If you haven’t already- move her to something with bar spacing/openings no bigger than 1/4th an inch as soon as those babies have their eyes open! They can get out of gaps 1/2 inch!

Birds of prey are great because they look all fierce and majestic but most of them only make cute little peepbeep noises, and I love it
