Headcanons for Pistol Packin' Possum
(NOTE: These are working under the assumption that the Roger Rabbit graphic novel Resurrection of Doom is canon- and I don't see why not, since it's an official Disney publication that's yet to be contradicted- and that Pistol Packin' Possum is not in fact Judge Doom.)
-His guns fire wacky cartoon bullets that do a wide variety of things, similar to Hanna-Barbera's Ricochet Rabbit
-Judge Doom stole his gun to keep people off his trail
-After discovering that the gun was used to kill R.K. Maroon, he stops using that particular gun and starts using a new one
-In modern times, he becomes a proponent for gun control; because although he's a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and a bit of gun nut, he abhors mass shootings and is especially sickened by ones that happen in schools and kill kids (toons always love kids)

I made a storyboard comic thing about the Pistol Possum from Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Explanation:
Theres a fan theory that the Possum is the secret identity of Judge Doom (which is canon to me, the comic backstory is meh)
During the making of the Roger Rabbit movie, the idea was thrown around about Judge Doom being the hunter who shot Bambis mom
I combind the two cause i like the idea that the Possum got a taste of killing toons and developd an obsession, which is why he came up with the Dip
Dont know how building a highway makes sense tho
EDIT: i forgot so say - they obvisouly cut this scene in the final Bambi film, wouldnt get past censors otherwise
But Possum is never on screen anyway, which is probably not clear enough in the panel scribbles

Alberto Vargas - "Pistol Packin' Mama" - March 1944 Esquire Magazine Gatefold - Varga Girl Gatefold # 38 of 63 - Verse below by Phil Stack:
The Wolves of the West Lose a lot of their zest When this gun-totin' cutie is loose; Their fervor is lackin', Those rods she is packin' Can really be put into use! Well, it's fun for a whirl But "Arms for the Girl" Aren't a permanent part of her plan, This Wild Prairie Blossom Is just playin' possum And waitin' for Arms and THE MAN!"

There is a fan theory that Pistol Packin Possum is the true identity of Judge Doom, based on the fact that he has similar eyes and Doom carries a gun that looks exactly the same as Possum’s—while that was likely just a neat visual for this scene:
Tumblr media
I am honestly pretty onboard with this theory because 1) the aesthetics are pretty similar and 2) for a character whose poster is prominently displayed in Maroon’s office, Possum is never mentioned nor appears in person in the film so the idea that actually he’s there the whole time is a fun one. Plus I never really noticed how creepy this dude looks before so that definitely fits Doom!!

Columbo:
Now, Sir, or may I call you Judge? Well, what I wanted to talk with you about is your pistol! Keeps me up all night! Could've sworn I've seen it somewhere before, but I couldn't figure it out!
But my wife, she loves watching toons! All of 'em, she laughs like crazy! And one of them cartoons had a - oh geez, what was he called? The "Pistol Packin' Possum", yes, that was it!
Wonderful stuff, these movies from Maroon Cartoon! But yesterday I heard about the Possum having gone missing, can you believe it? The same year that the Toon Patrol started! Isn't that something?

If there's anybody that represents our love of obscure toons, it's this guy.
It was an interesting challenge to take a character that appears in only one piece of artwork, and draw him in new poses. Especially since the original isn't especially good reference. I'm absolutely certain that this is the first time anyone has drawn him since the late '80s.
I kinda doubt that there's anything but a rough sketch of the poster in the archives somewhere. A model sheet seems unlikely.
Several people online have theorized that Triple-P is Judge Doom's true identity, because his gun matches exactly, and his eyes are similarly red. Now, I suspect that the screenwriters/prop department may have intended this, but any hardcore Roger Rabbit fan knows that the graphic novel Resurrection of Doom properly identifies him as a toon named Baron von Rotten. But why does Doom have the same gun? I think it's just because Doom stole it from him. </headcanon>
PS In case you're wondering who the cat Roger is talking to is, he's from a photo in R. K. Maroon's office, who as near as I can tell is named Kancer Katt(??).
(Entry number umpteen of fanart no one else will draw)
