What’s Your LINE-ID?
AU Fanfiction:
Kiryuuin Shou x Kyan Yutaka (Golden Bomber)
Note: So, maybe some of you have already seen the new video Golden Bomber released for their song LINEのBGMにしてるとモテる曲. It’s a parody of western style music videos and Shou looks like Justin Bieber and Yutaka looks like ... I don’t even know, haha. And because that is both awful and funny, I wrote an AU fic where Shou is a solo musician and Yutaka is an actor and they meet at this pool party from the video. I’ll attach the link, in case you have no idea what I’m talking about :D Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4su-0bX-6j4
The water of the pool reflected the bright afternoon sunlight; almost blinding if you looked into it directly.
Yutaka glanced over at the water longingly. It had probably heat up during the day already, though, and wouldn’t bring much relief. The air was hot and humid, but in the light summer clothes he wore, it was still endurable.
Next to him he felt the body heat of another person, as the woman leaned in. She was wearing nothing but a bikini and her skin felt warm and slightly sticky. It was a nice feeling and he did appreciate the curves of her full boobs nearly popping out. The sight was aesthetically pleasing and he had eyes after all. It didn’t get him especially excited, though.
“You are just too gorgeous”, he said and took hold of her hand to bring it to his lips.
Flirting and fooling around like this was part of the business. Yutaka enjoyed the pool and the sun and the buffet and the free drinks under the open sky. He enjoyed the music and the laid-back attitude of everyone involved. There were worse ways of networking. Somewhere around here was that foreign producer who would maybe give him a minor role in his new movie, if they shared a drink tonight. There was another actor, too, with whom Yutaka had worked on another project about a year ago. It would be worth a chat later on, to see if he knew about any upcoming projects.
But the flirting was a problem.
At these parties, there was always a number of young models and actresses, dressed in clothes too revealing to cover much of their body, hoping to draw attention and push their career that way. Some of the women were hired hostesses most likely, too. Most guys in the industry seemed to believe that partying without pretty women was impossible and if you didn’t share that opinion visibly, it would lead to irritation and if the next job offer came in, you weren’t first on the list to be called anymore.
So, Yutaka had learned to play his part and act like every other successful – slightly sexist – but still successful man in the entertainment industry.
The woman next to him giggled and pulled back her hand.
Yutaka had asked for her name earlier, but forgotten it already. At some point, it became all the same to him.
“And you are just too charming”, she said. Her voice wasn’t as high-pitched as he had remembered. He was relieved.
She leaned into him some more as if wanting to tell him a secret. Her smile changed. For a moment it wasn’t cute and alluring, but wide and showing just a little too many teeth. It was an honest smile and Yutaka knew that she had seen him through.
Women seemed to sense it more often than guys. He noticed how they relaxed around him, how flirting with them often came easier to him than it did to most men, because they lowered their guard around him. Intuitively, they seemed to know that he was no predator and that they didn’t have to watch so closely for the fine line of keeping him interested and not giving themselves away completely, because Yutaka wasn’t interested much in what they had to give anyway.
“I’m going to get myself a drink”, she said and got up.
Yutaka wondered what had given him away this time. He had made sure to pay attention to her, to flirt and keep body contact and his eyes had trailed off only a few times towards the shirtless guy, who for some reason had his face painted white. The guy seemed weird of course and Yutaka wasn’t interested in him either, but he would have approved if parties like this had included a set of hardly-dressed man next to the hardly-dressed women. It didn’t matter if the hosts thought looking for male company was a gross abomination of nature or if they just didn’t consider it might be of interest to anyone. Both options only proved their ignorance.
Yutaka stared after the woman, watching her butt move as she walked, in case anyone was paying attention to him right now. Good curves, but again, of not much interest to him.
After a moment, he allowed himself to turn his eyes away from her and check for the other guests. More women in bikinis, bright yellow, leopard print. A dude with long green hair. The host, who had invited Yutaka via Line only this morning. More women in bikinis, blue, orange, red painted lips. A guy in a white shirt with tattoos on both arms and …
Yutaka’s gaze kept lingering.
Now, that guy was handsome. Not exactly tall, Yutaka noticed, but his bare, tattooed arms looked good and strong enough to hold him tightly. His hair was blond, with white streaks on the side. On the other side, his hair was tugged away, exposing his pierced ear. Yutaka wished that he would sit down next to him and lean in until he could sense his body heat like the woman had before. This time, Yutaka would surely get more excited.
The handsome man smiled. His face changed a little when he did. It became less handsome – or rather, less smooth. His features looked more unique that way. He had a nice smile.
Shortly, Yutaka scanned the people he was talking to. If he knew one of them, maybe he would get them to introduce Yutaka to that guy. Not that it would lead to much. But it was always worth a try. He might even get to ask the question that he didn’t care to ask all the women here.
The guy right next to the blonde one was heavy and looked somewhat familiar. A DJ or something, Yutaka recalled. He had seen him at parties a couple of times before, but never talked to him. Maybe the guy was a musician, too. He got the looks. Radio pop, though. Combined with the rebel look, the teenage girls would go crazy.
The third guy in the group had purple hair. Yutaka had never seen him before.
Quietly he sighed. Chances weren’t good they would get to speak to each other. But if he stayed for the night, maybe they would bump into each other by accident eventually.
Yutaka turned his gaze away and stared at the empty glass in his hands instead. Time for another drink, he decided and got up from the bench. He wasn’t here for the company and the career only. Also, for the free alcohol.
Without hurry he strolled over to the provisional bar someone had erected right next to the pool. A guy in a black button-down shirt was handing out drinks. Yutaka felt sorry for him. It was too hot for an outfit like that. No wonder the guy with the weirdly painted face had taken off his shirt.
Yutaka pointed to his glass and turned around while he waited for the waiter to refill it.
Instinctively, Yutaka’s eyes trailed over to the group from earlier. The blonde guy was gone, though.
Yutaka furrowed his brow, checking the area around himself. There he was. Quite close to him, really. Carrying a tablet with prawns in his hand, he put it down on the table in front of a pretty woman in a blue bikini now.
Inwardly, Yutaka rolled his eyes.
Bringing food wasn’t the way to impress such a woman. You brought cocaine or a job offer or at least a charming remark. But not prawns at a party where the food was free.
He watched curiously how it was going, but he didn’t have to watch for long.
For such a handsome guy, blondie was quite awkward. Even from here, Yutaka could tell that he should straighten up more and move his head around less. When he looked that nervous from a distance, he couldn’t imagine what it would be like up close.
After barely a moment, the woman shook her head violently and walked away. Blondie remained there standing, the plate with prawns still next to himself.
Yutaka grabbed his glass, that was full again now, and decided that he didn’t give enough fucks for anyone at the party to not at least try. He had a question, and he was going to ask it.
He walked up from behind on the guy, who was desperately looking out onto the pool, obviously trying to spot a new target to release his awkwardness onto.
Yutaka put his glass on the table and took one of the prawns, cracking it open with his fingers.
“You are doing it wrong”, he said casually, making blondie flinch. Obviously, he hadn’t noticed him up until now.
Slowly he turned around.
Also, up close his face wasn’t bad. Yutaka felt a giddy tingling down in his stomach, that came just from looking at someone handsome. He wondered if the other guys at the party actually felt that way when talking to the female models and actresses around here and if that was the reason they always got invited. He wondered, if blondie felt that way when talking to them.
“What?”, blondie asked. His teeth were weird, Yutaka noticed. Still, it looked cute somehow.
“Picking up women. You shouldn’t let it show how nervous you are.”
Yutaka bit into the prawn instead of pealing it apart with his fingers. He wasn’t one for fancy eating.
“You mean they can sense my fear?”
Yutaka snorted.
“Something like that”, he confirmed.
“Kiryuuin Shou”, the guy said.
It took Yutaka a moment to realize he had just introduced himself.
“Kyan Yutaka”, he replied, extending one of his hands. It was sticky from the prawn.
Shou looked at it without moving for a second.
“Gross”, he said.
Yutaka put down the prawn and wiped his hands against his pants.
“There is no decent way of eating prawns”, he explained. “Don’t bring prawns when trying to hit on a woman.”
“What should I bring then?”, Shou asked. He didn’t seem curious, but rather amused. Yutaka thought he had a nice voice. The voice made his stomach feel tingly, too.
Even if this conversation would lead nowhere and even if Yutaka wouldn’t dare to ask the question, he had approached him for, talking to Shou was nice. Because he was handsome and had a cute smirk on his lips.
“A compliment”, Yutaka said and took up a second prawn.
“I’d prefer food over a compliment, if someone was hitting on me”, Shou mused.
Yutaka pushed the plate towards him.
“Here, have a prawn”, he offered.
Shou tilted back his head and laughed. He had a breathless laughter that sounded surprisingly mean and like he was suffocating at the same time. Yutaka’s chest felt tight and seemed to relax nonetheless. He had made him laugh. He had completely forgotten how exciting flirting could feel, if you actually meant it.
Still shaking his head in amusement, Shou took up one of the prawns. He was fumbling with it awkwardly, instead of just cracking it open. Yutaka threw the remains of his second one back onto the plate.
“It’s easy for you to say it, though. I’m no good with making compliments”, Shou said, looking down onto his hands as if he had to concentrate on what he was doing with them. “You surely don’t have to be nervous when talking to a woman and you know what to say. You are extremely handsome after all.”
Yutaka grinned. He couldn’t help it, although he wasn’t sure if Shou had actually joined in on the game on purpose. He just seemed clumsy and maybe his words were thought through no more than his movements.
“See, and you are not that bad with making compliments”, he teased. “I just got one from you.”
“You also got the prawns from me”, Shou pointed out.
Yutaka laughed. Shou was funny. He was funny in a way that only handsome guys were funny. When talking to them made you feel giddy and excited already, the laughter broke out faster, like a nervous reaction.
“I shared”, Yutaka said and watched Shou still fumbling with his food. He hadn’t taken one bite yet.
He seemed to notice Yutaka’s gaze, because he shrugged apologetic.
“It’s difficult”, he said.
“Just give it to me”, Yutaka sighed and took the prawn from Shou’s hands. Their fingers brushed.
For a moment, Shou watched expectantly as Yutaka cracked the shell open. Then, Yutaka bit into it.
“Oi!”, Shou shouted with laughter and his arm twitched as if he had to suppress the urge to shove Yutaka. Yutaka wouldn’t have minded a casual touch like that. “I thought you were going to open it for me, not eat it!”
“It’s wasted on you”, Yutaka said around the sweet meat in his mouth.
“You can’t just take it back! Then I’m taking back my compliment as well!”
Yutaka swallowed and grinned provokingly.
“So, I’m not extremely handsome anymore?”, he assured.
“Mildly handsome, at most”, Shou said and crossed the arms in front of his chest.
Yutaka had to laugh again and put down the prawn.
He wondered if Shou was actually flirting with him, or if he was just easy to talk to. Maybe he was so easy-going, because like every other guy at this party – he just didn’t consider that Yutaka might not be interested in the current bikini fashion.
There was a simple way of finding out of course, but Yutaka wasn’t quite ready to ask the question yet.
“You are an actor, aren’t you?”, Shou asked rather suddenly. “I think I saw you on tv before.”
Yutaka smirked and took up his drink. The prawns had made him thirsty.
“You are paying close attention to minor roles, if you noticed me”, he said and drank fast and with big gulps.
“Don’t put yourself down. The role I remember had two whole lines!”
“Ah.” Yutaka put down the glass and pushed up the sleeves of his shirt. “So it was that movie you saw. The one where I speak. A lead role, almost.”
Shou snorted. His face turned wrinkly when he grinned like that.
“And you are what? A teenage idol?”
“Yeah”, Shou confirmed. “Thirteen-year-old girls love me. Their mothers, too.”
Yutaka chuckled.
“Maybe you know my most popular song”, Shou continued. “It’s just a typical pop song about how my girlfriend broke up with me, because I cheated on her. And although I know that she will come back to me, because I’m just awesome, I’m still suffering in the meantime, but in a very manly way. The song is called >manly<. That’s how creative my company is.”
“Oh, you wrote that song!”, Yutaka exclaimed. “I’ve been wondering whom to sue for it for ages!”
Shou laughed quietly. Even if his voice was quiet like this, it still sounded like he was running out of breath.
“They just want to create this cool and manly image of me. But I’m neither. I hate singing those kinds of songs. I feel like a fraud. A fraud, who is not even likeable.”
“Would you rather write songs about how uncool you are?”, Yutaka teased.
Shou shrugged. He was grinning.
“It sounds like a niche market, doesn’t it?”
Yutaka laughed. He felt comfortable in Shou’s presence. He wasn’t only the most handsome person at this party, it seemed like he was also the most likeable. If Yutaka would only dare to ask his question, the afternoon would already have proven worth his time.
“We are out of prawns”, he observed, changing the topic abruptly.
Shou looked down on the plate.
“Did you just come over to eat up my flirting device?”, he assured.
Yutaka snorted.
“It sounds just wrong when you put it like that”, he said. “And no, I came over, because I had my eyes on you since you arrived. You look gorgeous.”
He spoke lightly, but he knew that he had given himself away with these words. There was no way Shou could misunderstand them and he wouldn’t be able to play it off as a joke. If Shou was taken aback by Yutaka hitting on him, he could only hope he had the decency to not go around talking about it. Yutaka had the feeling, though, that Shou wouldn’t harm him out of spite. He seemed like a kind person. That didn’t mean he liked men, though. Yutaka was almost holding his breath.
But Shou’s reaction was different from what he had expected altogether.
“See!” Shou threw up his hands in despair. “You can say things like that easily and it doesn’t even sound strange. It sounds charming! If I told a woman >I’ve been watching you for a while now, because you are pretty< people would call the police for sure! I just got that kind of face.”
For a moment, Yutaka just stared at him. He didn’t know if he was supposed to laugh. Maybe Shou was just trying to change the topic, because he had made him feel uncomfortable. But looking at him, Shou only seemed seriously troubled by the issue.
“Ehm”, Yutaka said. “I will try to be less charming, if that makes you feel better.”
“Nah.” Shou made a dismissive gesture. Suddenly, he seemed insecure about what to say.
Yutaka leaned forward, putting his weight onto his arms on the table plate. He stared at Shou, breathing heavily and flaring his nostrils visibly.
“I want to smell your panties”, he said.
Shou burst out laughing. It started as a loud bark, before turning into gasps again.
“Okay, you win”, he said. “Nowhere near charming.”
Yutaka granted him with his widest grin.
Shou turned his head away a little too fast.
Yutaka wondered if he had crossed the line. Maybe he had come on a little too strong and now Shou was scared off. Maybe he wasn’t used to guys flirting with him. Yutaka should have been more careful; he should have asked his question and then he should have kept his distance. He should have taken it slow.
“Shou!”, a voice shouted from somewhere.
Yutaka turned around. It was the dude with the purple hair shouting. He had his arm around a woman with black hair and red lipstick now.
Yutaka turned back to Shou.
He was standing even more hunched over, seemingly trying to make himself as small as possible.
With his thump he pointed over his shoulder.
“I’ll just be over there, hiding like a criminal”, he announced dryly.
“You don’t want to talk to him?”, Yutaka asked and nodded back to the guy with the purple hair.
“No”, Shou said. “He’ll drag me back to the others and they’ll ask why I haven’t found myself a girl yet, hahaha.” He inserted a jovial-straight-white-men laugh. “And all I’ll have to say is: Ehm, ehm, I ran out of prawns.”
Yutaka laughed. He understood Shou all too well, though. There was a lot of pressure to live up to their standards and not stand out.
“Can I join you?”, he asked. “I’m not keen on having to look for female company, either.”
Shou threw him a sly glance, before he turned towards the pool.
“I figured”, he stated with a small smirk.
Yutaka gritted his teeth. He wished Shou would make it a little clearer, if it was his own awkwardness keeping him from chatting up women or if he had similar reasons as Yutaka. He obviously didn’t mind Yutaka’s interest, but it was hard to tell, if he was politely indifferent or hesitantly curious. Yutaka hoped it would be the latter.
They were walking past the pool, towards the white building with luxurious hotel rooms to the right. Empty balconies were looking out onto the pool.
“Here”, Yutaka said and pointed to the balconies.
“We can’t just break in”, Shou protested and watched as Yutaka swung himself across the low barrier of a balcony on the ground floor.
“Sure, we can. No one is there. And we’re not going in.”
Shou hesitated, but finally climbed across the barrier as well. Although it wasn’t even waist-high, he managed to nearly fall over.
Yutaka sat down on the floor, leaning his back against the window pane behind himself. The enclosure of the balcony was made out of white bars and therefore see-through, but he was sure, that they were hidden from view here, if no one looked too closely.
Shou sat down right next to him. Between the bars, he was looking out onto the pool.
Yutaka watched him from the side.
“We should have brought snacks”, he observed.
Shou snorted. His grin went very wide whenever he did. Yutaka could see the teeth with the large gaps between them. It should have made him less attractive, but somehow it didn’t.
“You seem to like eating a lot”, Shou observed.
“Well, I’m certainly not here for the party alone”, Yutaka said.
Shou turned his head, looking at Yutaka directly. He wore blue coloured lenses. Yutaka wondered what his eyes really looked like. He hadn’t been genuinely curious about anyone for a long time already, but suddenly he wanted to know what Shou’s eyes looked like when they were brown and what his hair looked when it was tousled and what his chest looked like when he took off his shirt and if running out of breath during sex sounded a little like his laughter.
“I’m beginning to feel like you only wanted me for my prawns”, Shou joked.
There it was, the little treacherous smirk. He was flirting for sure.
Yutaka cleared his throat.
“Ehm, Shou, I wondered …”, he started and reached out to brush back the white strands of hair from Shou’s face. That was the test. If he allowed Yutaka to touch him, he could ask his question. If Shou wasn’t opposed to it and didn’t pull back, the answer would surely be positive.
Shou reached up as well, taking hold of Yutaka’s hand and putting it against his cheek. His face felt warm. Sitting so close to him, Yutaka noticed that Shou had a tiny mole on the left side of his nose. He noticed that his lips looked soft, too.
As if drawn in by him, he leaned in a little closer.
Shou guided his hand, pushing it down across his neck and holding it in place over his collarbone. If Yutaka paid close attention, he could sense Shou’s heartbeat again his palm faintly. His own heart was racing. He hadn’t wanted to touch anyone so badly in such a long time. He hadn’t wanted it to have meaning so badly, either.
He wanted to lean in more, but Shou was faster. He closed the distance between them, putting his lips against Yutaka’s. His mouth was warm and slightly wet as he parted his lips after a moment. It wasn’t a heated, greedy kiss, but a slow and curious one. After his awkwardness before, Yutaka had not expected Shou to be such a good kisser, but he was firm and gentle and he held Yutaka’s hand against his chest and Yutaka wanted to sink back and pull Shou with him and he wanted to keep kissing him until this stupid party was over and everyone had left and the sun came up again and really just for the rest of his life.
Shou pulled back, letting go of Yutaka’s hand. Yutaka let it slide down Shou’s chest, just feeling the outlines of his body, before pulling it back completely. If he continued touching Shou now, he wouldn’t be able to stop for a long time.
“Did that answer your question?”, Shou asked with a smirk.
Yutaka nodded.
He had forgotten what he had wanted to ask to begin with. His mind was empty and his body filled with nothing but the memory of Shou’s kiss. But at least for a little while, he was convinced, that this kiss had solved whatever he had wondered about – life, the universe and everything. Whatever the question, Shou’s kiss had surely provided the answer to it.
“Yeah”, he mumbled and leaned in again.
Shou chuckled and he seemed slightly embarrassed and very happy. Yutaka was confident he was going to let him kiss those lips again – the only thing he wondered about right now.
“Shou!”, someone shouted. “Shou!?”
Shou groaned and moved away from Yutaka. He made a face, that was all wrinkly and looked like he was in pain.
Whoever had shouted – Yutaka assumed it was the purple haired guy again – he wanted to punch him.
“I think I have to go”, Shou said. He spoke quietly.
“No”, Yutaka said immediately, grabbing for Shou’s hand, trying to hold him back.
“You hear it.” Shou raised his index finger as if wanting to point towards the voice that could still be heard in the background. “Jun sounds like he is about to have a heart-attack, if I don’t show my face around.”
Yutaka wanted to point out, that maybe he was going to have a heart-attack, if Shou left him now, but it sounded too cheesy and they hardly knew each other yet.
“Too bad”, he said.
For the very first time, one of those parties had turned out to not be a waste of time. Shou was handsome and he was funny and best of all, he was down for kissing Yutaka. He would regret it forever, if he let him go now.
Yutaka watched him scramble to his legs. His movements were clumsy and didn’t match with his style at all. His movements seemed to belong to another person, a person who made stupid jokes and who couldn’t chat up women and who wanted to write songs about being uncool. Yutaka liked that person better anyway.
Shou turned to climb across the barrier of the balcony and was close to tripping over again, when Yutaka finally remembered, what it was that he had wanted to ask all along. He felt stupid for almost missing his opportunity.
“Wait”, he called out, fumbling for his mobile in the pocket of his pants.
Shou stopped and turned around to look at him.
He seemed both glad to be held back and somewhat worried, as if he was afraid Yutaka could make leaving more difficult for him. Maybe, just maybe, he would also have preferred to kiss Yutaka again over going back to the pool party.
“Yes?”, he asked warily.
Yutaka granted him with the widest grin he could provide.
There it was, finally, the question that would make the entire day worthwhile. The question that would enable him to meet with Shou again, to find out about the way he gasped when you caressed his body, about what he liked for breakfast, about his sleeping habits and his favourite songs and his hopes and dreams and fears and the things he had never told to anyone yet. The colour of his eyes.
“What’s your Line-ID?”
