i was thinking about hollow mind again and i noticed something kinda weird about the CATs plan to infiltrate Belos’ mind. In order to leave the mindscape - it seems that there needs to be a witch on the outside that can extract the people who went in - we saw this in understanding willow as well - where Luz and Amity couldnt leave when eda was distracted.
So why,,, pray tell, where all 3 planning to go into the mindscape together??
Tumblr media
We see Darius ready to break the vial which should activate the spell circle and the three of them sure look close enough to be in the spell circle - so unless they where planing for this to be a suicide mission where they entered Belos’ mind, gather information and where just trapped there forever - there has to have been a 4th member ready to pull them out. We also see later in the episode that where the spell was cast is not the same location as where people return to when removed, so it would make sense to have a 4th member in a secure location where they can be summoned to without problems.
It is possible that this 4th member is one of the original BATs, however it would have put some heavy suspicion on Raine if their 3 co-conspirators where broken out of the conformatorium, so we can assume that they where Broken out during or at least closer to the events of ‘Oh Titan where art thou’
There are however some potentially foreshadowing towards the other coven heads not all being in Belos’ corner, with the big one being this banner from ‘Eda’s requiem’
Tumblr media
Out of the 9 covens, 4 of them have scorch marks on them (that being illusion, oracle, abominations and beast keeping) and of those 4 - 2 have already shown to be traitors to the emperor. Could it be possible that the other two are also against him?
Let’s look at oracle first The Oracle school of magic is one of the ones that we know really very little about, both in regards to the types of spells cast with it and their head. At hexside, we see that it largely revolves around the seeing of the future, but can also involve potentially summoning ghosts? The only character we see outside of Hexside who uses it is Odalia Blight - who mostly seems to use it to talk to amity through her necklace - so the passing or communication of information could also be grouped with it.  As for the Coven head,,,,,we also dont know a lot about them either. They seem to be a similar type of demon as Kikimora, albeit with more arms , and based on their reaction to the DOU vision in hunting Palisman - they seem largely unfazed by most things. Which definitely makes sense given the future vision and all.
Tumblr media
But could they be a traitor? It would make sense that an oracle could figure out whats actually going on about the DOU, and based on their design, they definitely seem like the type of character that knows a lot more that everyone else. The one flaw with them is that - surely with an oracle on your side, you wouldnt need to infiltrate someone’s mind for information. We see Odalia’s oracle magic place information into Amity’s head through the necklace, so surely a more powerful caster could extract information from someones mind without having to literally enter it - so with that theres both evidence for and against them being against the emperor.
Now, to move onto one we know a lot more about: the illusion coven We know the illusion coven is solely focused on creating illusions and that the head of the coven is Adrian Graye Venworth.
Tumblr media
Now ive already made a whole post about how vaguely suspicious Adrian is so im not going to go all in depth here - but outside of any theories theres no obvious reason as to why he’d already be against the emperor - especially given his want to please the emperor in Labyrinth runners.
Tumblr media
One noticeable thing for him is just the level of attention he’s gotten - having appeared in 5 episodes, being the only coven head besides the CATS to acknowledge hunter in ‘Any sport in a storm’ and having an entire episode dedicated to him as the main antagonist. This could all be setup for something later on, maybe even in season 3 - but for now, just like the oracle head, theres nothing concrete towards him being against the emperor.
Having looked at the banner, there is always the possibility that the scorched Covens are representative of ones that will eventually turn against Belos- as Raine’s area wasnt damaged - with them already working against him.
Stepping away from the banner theory for a moment, there is also one head who there is also potentially evidence for - that being the Potions head.
Tumblr media
Just like with Oracle, we know very little about this guy and their school of magic, despite the fact that both eda and lillith where in it, as well as Luz for part of ‘the first day’
my main bit of evidence here is in the set up for the mindscape spell - specifically this little vial that Darius seems to mix with some abomination magic to active - and the potion needed to remove people from the mindscape.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Its not exactly clear how potions magic works, but, given eda’s comments about how brewing it is “gonna be tough without magic” -we have to assume there are some areas of magic involved in it - magic which (as they're branded with their respective covens) Raine, Darius and Eberwolf dont have access to. This means that, in order to get their original potion, they would need to have a potion maker on their side - one which can give a potion the same level of power as titans blood, aka: a very very strong witch.
So there are three coven heads which have potential foreshadowing towards them being against the emperor. It feels kinda like we’re not really going to have time to really explore this in season 2 (or maybe even at all) but it would explain this one plot hole from hollow mind thats been bugging me a bunch
also (and this is more of a goof than evidence) when we see the coven heads in Eda’s Requiem, the potential traitors are all grouped together. even Raine runs off in that direction

Labyrinth Runners spoilers, my thoughts during and after the episode
Much like Edge of the world I cant organise them coherently so here is just a list:
Gus powerful boi
At least we dont have to worry about Gus getting trauma... because he ALREADY has trauma!
Honestly the whole opening, just the little babies, they need comfort.
💖Breathing exercises my beloved💖
Gus recognising Flapjack, I can't, my heart
Also love how when this show decides to give us responsible and caring adults they go the whole mile, these adults want these kids to have a happy and healthy learning environment and actively learned from the things they didnt like during their school years! They dont pretend they were never students and I love that!
Bumpy you done it again you fabulous haired man
God so much hex mix, Hunter please eat a vegetable
OOHHHH THE WALRUS BACKPACK WAS A GIFT FROM GUS! OHHHH
Luz disappeared???? Concerned older sibling Hunter??? Also Amity with the "the hearts are for me"
"Learned alot of bad stuff" UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE CENTURY LUZ
GUS AND HUNTER EPISODE GUS AND HUNTER EPISODE GUS AND HUNTER EPISODE GUS AN-
I was sus when only Willow came around the corner
Also love how the flyer derby team are like "That's our boy! Our sad little meow meow! Our teammate!"
The comment about Hunter not showering in a while PLEASEE SOMEONE GET THIS BOY A PROPER PLACE TO STAY
Me@Belos: you ruined a perfectly good grimwalker is what you did! Look at him! He has anxiety!
Honestly though Gus calming Hunter down from his panic attack is really sweet
"Dont scare him away" Ow Luz is still worried about Hunter! Dont worry he is okay now Luz, he just needs a shower!
Hunter being all sinister "well rest assured Gus I-" baby just let your teammate help you
Gus going "What are you doing here, Hunter" more softly, he can tell the boy isnt in a good place rn
There are a bunch of books in his little makeshift den, Hunter still being a lil nerd is everything to me
Hunter's little yellow purse, that's it that's the whole point
Flapjack pulling his little forelock to get him to talk to Gus! Like yes, make him confide in people he can trust!
"How... vague of you" Gus atusjtsgjdjg
The concerned little "She's not with the owl lady?" like yes, older sibling instincts
I knew that coven head guy was sus like "Yeah they will just be illusions and totally fake!"
Also Matholomule (I cant spell his name) in illusions and Edric in beast keeping and potions, Yes!
Gus spotting the illusion like "I know bullshit when I see it!"
I love how this episode demonstrates how illusions isnt just about funny conjured images. Its about altering the perspective of what you see around you and also performance
I wish the illusionist coven head wasnt a little bastard man, but we had to check fruity and theater kid villain off our list
Yes Severine! Go back to the tiny cat coven! I love her design and she is a great actor! And her prioritizing her self esteem, yes!
Hunter shoulder checking the coven head to get him away from Gus is everything
"Put him-" "out of his misery?" "Put him to sleep, dude!" what is wrong with you, he's teenager! Also the little look of fear on Hunter's face, that's exactly what he was afraid of
I already said this in another post but the "You're a witch" comment made it seem like Hunter doesn't consider himself a witch, he didn't say "you have magic" or "you cast it" he specifically went "you're a witch"
"Are these real steps or illusion steps?" *falls* oh the boy is having a hard day, give him a break
Hunter wearing his flyer derby uniform I CANT
"Because of a sandwich?" "It was a good sandwich" "no sandwich is that good!" This whole interaction
When they said "he's been worried sick" and Hunter's nervous little "you don't say"
Gotta love Gus knowing how to make glyphs and just pulling it out while Hunter distracts them. Luz's influence from Through The Looking Glass Ruins when she gave him glyphs and he didnt know which was which but now he KNOWS the fire one
Hunter literally shaking when they question why he isnt in uniform 🥺 baby is so scared
The pictures on Gus' bedroom wall, the one with Matholomule, my heart cant take it
Hunter not knowing what a high five is and flinching, no baby it's a good thing dont worry
Also the fact that fake Willow was immediately distrustful of Hunter but real Willow immediately stood up for him
Hunter has only known Willow for a like half a day but he (in contrast with Amity which I find interesting) KNOWS this girl isnt one to be frightened easily
The little blush when he thought he saw Willow, he down bad
Another little detail is fake Willow calling Gus "Augustus" because Gus was the "human nickname" Luz gave him
"That's not the captain" Hunter still calling Willow captain
"Have you ever seen her play flyer derby, theres no way she'd be afraid of me" and Gus being like oh wait he right
"The note inside the note" dysywyducjfu this man
Hunter immediately freezing at the Belos illusion, like noooo the baby is traumatized dont do that!
"Yes this is my favourite part!" Pure little Skara
Honestly the whole fight scene is awesome, everyone helping eachother. Emira healing, Amity and Willow combo, just Bump fighting at all looks awesome.
"Are you listening? This is my monologue" little theater kid man, as a theater kid myself this hits home
"I was looking for the gaulderstones, they'd make great gifts for the emperor" flashbacks to grimwalkers needing a gaulderstone for the heart & power source
"Oh dont be so dramatic" says the drama queen
"Then how about just two of us" YAAASS QUEENS GET THEIR ASSES
"I REALLY need to talk to my parents about this" Yes Amity, you really do
Oh, Hunter having to see his worst memories dont double traumatise him. I noticed while most of them were from Hollow Mind there was also the one from Any Sport In a Storm, when Willow and the others are locked in a jail cell.
"And some part of me still wants to believe that lie" 🥺🥺🥺 I'm not crying, you're crying
Hunter trying to do the breathing exercise again and it whistling when he exhales because of his lil tooth gap. He needs to be protected
Gus pocketing the magic amplifier like "mine now"
Hunter trying to walk away and then getting pulled into a hug
Also Hunter doesnt know what a hug is but he is a little blushy boy, even his ears!
Hunter answering eveyones questions at the end and explaining
Also Bumps "then you better get started", they better set Hunter up with an actual proper room in the school
So Hexide and it's students are gonna be an active part in the rebellion now huh
This episode was amazing! Even the side characters with barely a few lines like Skara and Matholomule (still dont know how to spell his name) were very in character and entertaining. The episode focused on the school, Amity & Willow's friendship, Gus, Hunter's situation and it makes it work! Hunter now having a safe place at Hexide, my little heart cant take it. Definitely one of my favourite episodes.

Your favorite ship. I'm talking about the one that gives you the butterflies and happy feel good feelings. Talk to me about that. I wanna know what your brain words say about it. :)
THANK YOU, SYN, FOR SENDING ME THIS MESSAGE WHEN NO ONE ELSE WOULD because probably they know what’s going to happen and they don’t want any part of it---  *glares at entire dash like that one picture of the assmad cartoon pig*
I’m going to cut this because it’ll definitely get long, but... if you wanna know what kind of ships I would throw myself in front of a ruby dragon for, you’re boutta find out... I’m gonna explain it for the unfamiliar as well, though. So I get to talk more. I don’t know how anyone on this website could dislike this ship. Fight me. Anyone who reads this and agrees gets the warm fuzzy feeling of my everlasting favour.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
It’s Velka and Gwyndolin, is anyone surprised?! Nahhh... BUT LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THEM BC I BET YOU DONT KNOW EM?!For those unfamiliar with Dark S//ouls, Gwyndolin is the youngest child of the Great Lord Gwyn, God of War/Sun/Lightning, all that big noisy man stuff. Gwyndolin was born weak and fragile and corpse-white, so, realising he wasn’t much of a trophy child, Gwyn raised him as a girl. Gwyn’s rejection never quite sat well with him, though - he’s always been insecure about his appearance and how others interpret it. He hates being stared at, and has been known to kill servants who aren’t careful where they look. Actually, he’s not fussy about murder in general, but he does have a strong sense of who deserves it and who doesn’t.Gwyndolin’s talents lie in moon-related magic and archery. As an adult, he still presents as female, he’s still horribly weak in a physical sense, paper-white, and for unspecified-in-canon reasons, has six or eight snakes where his legs should be (he still has legs, but the snakes tend to boost him off the floor). I’m not going to link any images. Picture white silk, gold, delicate, intricately made bows and faintly glowing arrows, and a gold mask he hides his face behind that mimics the shape of the sun his dad is so obsessed with. His canon personality is cold and apathetic; this is no tragic princess to be rescued. Suggest as much, or try to cross him, and he will kill you where you stand, with a shot so fast you’d never see him draw the arrow, or raise his staff. He leads a covenant of followers who hunt down sinners. As proof that they killed for their master, these followers tear off their victim’s ear and bring it to his doorstep for his approval. He’s pure grace and moonlight, and the definition of the phrase “glass cannon”. He knows his place, and even though he will never be a true part of Gwyn’s family, at least to his father, he works to support them. You can kill him in-game; if you do, the sun will go out. It was an illusion. The sun went out in Anor Londo centuries ago; Gwyndolin has been maintaining the false image of its better days, as a comfort to visiting Undead, even though it must grate at his soul to do it. His title is Dark Sun. This is not his natural habitat.
Velka. Velka is a name, and a concept. That’s all we get in-game. She appeared in the third game as a statue (that confirmed my headcanon appearance for her to be spot on). Her title is Goddess of Sin. She’s known for being sneaky, “eccentric witch”, difficult, changeable. Gwyn’s friendship with her was always rocky; she could see his pride and his self interest, and he knew she waited for the day he met her judgement. Flames help him; after the massacre of the dragons, if he ever knelt at her feet, it would be the last thing he did. If Gwyn is the sun, she is the darkness waiting for him to sink below the horizon. Her covenant are absolvers of sin, for a price, their faces covered to separate them from the material world. She has no concept of the Christian idea of sin, because that just doesn’t exist in Lordran. Sin is decided based on her moral compass - conflicting philosophies, like the Way of White, might claim she has none, because she sees no inherent sin in drinking, or sex, or gambling, as long as no ill intent or effect is there. She only wears black, silver, and that one splash of red, the wedding ring from the husband she outlived. She was human once; not a born Lord like Gwyndolin. That mortal vitality is still about her; she never had the luxury of living without the concept of death. Picture extremely long, thick black hair (that she’s famous for in game), crystal-clear lavender eyes, blood red lips, porcelain-coloured skin and purple dark circles, lace and velvet. Her mother taught her to scheme and spy her way up. Gwyndolin was naturally suspicious of her at first, as he should have been. But their covenants had a mutual interest, and she began to supply her list of unrepentant sinners for his covenant to hunt down. It became a bonding ritual, I think both of them enjoyed it more than they’d admit.
Gwyndolin to begin to get. Jealous. Velka was known for spending nights with anyone she pleased, servant to knight, never getting attached to any of them. There were rumours that the crown prince of sunlight himself was on that list. Gwyndolin seemed to be the only one she wouldn’t look at in that way. Was that because of the way he looked? Did she pity or avoid him the way everyone else did, even after all this time? Every hour she spent with one of them was one she wasn’t with him. His own anger at her is confusing to him, because he’s never had any interest in anyone, male or female, not like this. It was, she said, because she valued him more than one of her throwaways. She paid close attention to him, enough to know he didn’t like to be approached like that, or looked at. Whenever people had shown interest in him before, he’d assumed they were mocking him. She didn’t want to make him feel the way they did, so she was content with the distance she stayed at, as long as she could pride herself on being the one he was most comfortable with. It was selfish, really, but she liked being his favourite, so she’d do anything to stay that way. Velka does not recognise the word love, because she’s never experienced it before, so she doesn’t use it, not yet.
When they finally stopped dancing around each other, her reputation for impropriety died, along with anyone who spoke about her like that in front of Gwyndolin. Gwyndolin is extremely possessive, and Velka, for once, finds she wants to be possessed. There’s still no power imbalance, though. With her support, Gwyndolin’s confidence can develop (she’s so proud of everything he does). With his favour, she can’t be sidelined as badly as before. They have to be careful as a couple, because it’s dangerous to be seen that way. Not because “Gwyn won’t approve of her”, but because between them, with their combined covenants, Gwyn’s distrust of her, and the growing unrest among Gwyn’s human subjects, they present a very real threat to the throne, and as if to prove their point, Gwyn will soon exile his own son and heir for less.
They’re like Morticia and Gomez, if all that overly romantic stuff were silent. Because they don’t need to say anything. Like the time he panicked over an instinctive murder of a wayward servant, and she helped him clean the blood off his hands and let him calm down alone when she wanted to kiss him until he remembered how much more important he was than such a silly mistake as that - to her, and who else matters? Or the time someone made an untoward comment about her at the dinner table and no one saw Gwyndolin draw the arrow, just the sight of it hit the speaker and kill them instantly. She only laughed as politely as she could, because he already knows how much she adores his overprotective homicidal tendencies, and he thrives off it. Her sense of justice has a blind spot that exists just for him, and she can forgive him anything.
There’s a little piece of lore in the game that says Velka sided against the gods in a war, and lost. The AU that could happen if they won gives me life. If they won, she wouldn’t have taken Gwyn’s place herself, she would have given it to Gwyndolin. They would make a terrifying but brilliant leader between them. The sun would set in Anor Londo for good, and Gwyndolin’s intelligence and clarity would get a chance to prove itself more useful than Gwyn’s brute force and genocide tactics. Gwyndolin isn’t much for titles, but you can be damn sure Velka would take it. If it made Gwyn turn in his grave to hear her called Queen, she’d insist on it, after the way she watched him treat Gwyndolin. As if he weren’t worthy of Gwyn’s pathetic legacy.
Of course, as the series goes, in the third game, Gwyndolin is gone. Reportedly cannibalised by a cult leader and his apprentice while he was weak and sick. Velka’s verse for that revolves around her finding and saving him - whatever that means.
If anyone stuck with me this long, please offer me emotional support, because I am compromised. I haven’t run out of words or feelings, I’ve run out of energy to convey them. These two are precious to me. Not only is there all this intensity and unrelenting devotion behind them, they take the usual framework for a hetero relationship, shatter it and piece it back together in completely the “wrong” order. Velka has some of the masculine traits, the forcefulness of her mannerisms, the proactively destructive one, however undercover it might be. Gwyndolin is the formal, delicate, princessly one, and has to be pushed to react badly. Both of them are beautiful, in totally opposing ways. You would usually expect the  female to be the sexually inexperienced one and the male to be the opposite, but that’s flipped on its head as well. And yet, the hyper-feminine one is Velka. Gwyndolin is androgynous, even in feminine clothing. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a pairing where each one adds to the others’ existence to such a degree as they do. I reject the events of the second and third games and substitute my own, because anything else is a waste of one of the best pairs I’ve seen in anything, ever. I don’t think I’ll ever top some of the threads I did with enasaliin with these two, honestly, I might as well log out and never come back. I have to go do some starters now. My heart hurts. ;-;
