"They are pretty, I'll give you that," Betty's voice startled Veronica out of her trance. The taller brunette whipped around to face Betty's shit eating grin.

"Wh- Betty, what the hell!? Don't sneak up on me like that!" Veronica exclaimed, her cheeks tinted red in embarrassment as her own reaction.

"I wasn't sneaking up on you, you were just too busy giving the traffic lights heart eyes-"

"BETTY!" Veronica yelped, her hand slapping over Betty's mouth. She looked around frantically, as if the Heathers themselves were going to materialize right in front of them and out Veronica in front of the whole school.

Veronica spotted them still talking to each other, several tables away from her, not even noticing her outburst.

Veronica's shoulders sagged in relief, letting go of her grip on Betty's mouth to glare at her.

Betty just chuckled in response, her smut grin on full display.

"What? I'm just telling the truth," She said with a shrug of her shoulders. Veronica pulled up her scarf in an attempt to hide the blush on her cheeks.

Betty's grin only got wider. "You know, you don't have bad taste, they are pretty to look at, but, alas, like a moth to flame, you shouldn't get too close." She said teasingly, but Veronica didn't miss the hint of concern and seriousness behind her words.

Veronica rolled her eyes. "I just think they are attractive, Betts, you can think people are pretty and not have a crush on them."

Betty huffed a laugh. "So you haven't daydreamed about going on fancy ass dates with them at all?"

Veronica's blush increased. She had indeed indulged in the occasional thought about what it would be like to date one of them (or all of them).

"Shut up."

You know I've noticed, no one has ever completely taken the fact that Veronica takes self defense classes into account. It's mentioned in You're Welcome "What was that move from my self defense class?" "Stay friendly and gently, 'accidentally' sweep the leg" and it's a good explanation on how she was able to keep up fighting JD in the boiler room. Sure, it's not mentioned in the movie or the Broadway ver, but it's the perfect explanation on how she managed to physically fight JD in the boiler room. Because there's no way she could've help up with no fighting experience.

Please, I need fics that address this. I've seen Jock Veronica, Problem Child Veronica, Goes to gym Veronica but where is the canonically mentioned in West End ACTUALLY takes self defense and can physically fight Veronica?

(I would also love to see the Heathers reaction to that)

tw mentions of suicide but it’s just the word suicide

So I saw this idea and HAD to do it!! This is not my drawing, but my drawing tablet is getting repaired SOOOO

but I took these characters and did a little quiz for them, and almost every detail has a meaning

like Duke’s outfit is EXACTLY like chandlers but green to show that she follows Chandlers every command

Veronica kind of has her own style with the spiky jacket but still incorporated heathers as the little tie thing

And McNamara’s the only one with a not sharp collar to show her softer personality, and she has a bow! And she has a spiky jacket to show she can be mean- but she does have the softer collar to show she’s not all that sharp. And Duke and McNamara have matching hairclips sooo

and Veronica’s the only one who had piercings to show her rougher side,

and McNamara has a little bandaid to show her healing from her suicide attempt!!

Headcanons For My Heathers Childhood Friends With Veronica AU <3

Heather Chandler:

Even as a kid, she had a natural inclination for leadership.

She's the one who mostly made plans for when and where the four of them would hang out.

And she's the one who mostly held sleepovers at her place.

She preferred eating any sweet food as a kid before eventually growing and disliking them.

Heather Chandler is a born leader.

While also being a tsundere.

She used to have a superiority complex before she met Veronica.

While Veronica kept challenging her authority and expressed her opinions (not caring if Heather wanted it or not) she became used to it as time passed by and eventually started valuing & seeking Veronica's opinions.

Because of Veronica, Heather began to have some sort liking for debates and she'd occasionally have them with Veronica.

She still had a pretty dominant, assertive and charismatic personality as a kid.

She has a big soft spot for her friends.

She'd occasionally lie about things if they could or would get any of her friends in trouble or upset.

She hates dogs (thinks they poop all over the place) and has an annoying but cute sassy cat.

She was supposed to be an only child but because she was bored and wanted some sort of company when her parents or friends weren't around, she asked for a little sister and got that :)

She's like the strict mother of the group.

She's brutally honest but would definitely twist her words when it comes to her friends.

She hates legally blond for some reason.

She has a talent in singing but no one knew she could sing until she secretly began singing to herself when she was waiting for Mac, Duke and Veronica to arrive at her house for a sleepover.

She's very protective of them.

This protectiveness turned into possessiveness when they grew up.

Heather Duke:

Had god complex as a kid and still has it till now.

She was pretty introverted and reserved as a kid while being extremely quiet.

She took everything as a kid seriously.

She hated puns as a kid and still hates it till now.

She'd criticize and judge everyone around her in her head secretly.

She used to be an overthinker but stopped being one when she became friends with Martha.

She liked being alone as a kid and appreciated solitude a lot.

She has an opinion of everything but she keeps some of them to herself because they're brutal and offensive.

She was and still is observant of everything going on around her.

She has a mischievous sense of humor that only emerges when she's in the company of Heather, Heather and Veronica.

She has a pet hamster.

She secretly has a talent in drawing and painting but no one knows of them other than her family, friends, a few classmates and teachers.

Chandler used to always tell her to shut up as a joke back then but when Veronica left them some time in middle school, Chandler started letting out her anger at Duke by telling her to shut up and got her used to that.

That's also why Duke has a love-hate relationship with Veronica.

Heather McNamara:

She's the voice of reason in the group when one of them is fighting or arguing with the other.

Even as a kid, she always had a warm and nurturing nature.

She's the one who always looked out for others and tried to bring harmony to the group.

She has a talent in dancing and singing, she'd actually sing along to any songs she knew and found catchy when she could.

She's an animal lover (She'd often rescue any injured animals along with Veronica who despite not wanting to, had no choice in the matter but to go with her.)

She loves nature secretly.

Her mom is asthmatic of animals with fur so she doesn't have any pets sadly :(

She doesn't like it when any of her friends fight so when Veronica left them, she tried multiple times to get her back with them till Chandler told her to just stop and Duke told her it's no use cause Veronica isn't one to change her mind that much when she already has it set up on something.

Veronica Sawyer:

She had a vivid imagination and a huge thirst for adventure as a kid.

She'd often invent her own games and play them with the Heathers.

Veronica had a natural talent for writing and storytelling even as a kid.

She had one heck of a sharp intellect and an insatiable curiosity.

She would try and experiment things out of curiosity.

She'd ask the Heathers a lot of questions (mostly scenario based or hypothetically) and the Heathers would always answer them because they found it interesting.

She wasn't rebellious until she met the Heathers and got influenced by them.

She was morally ambiguous as a kid and still is before eventually becoming sorta morally grey because of JD.

She's easily influenced by people she finds mysterious and alluring.

Other Headcanons:

Chandler is the oldest while Veronica, Duke and Mac are the same age (but Mac likes to pretend she's younger than the two of them).

Chandler is taller than Veronica than a few inches while Mac follows after her and is taller than Duke who's the shortest out of the four of them.

Their relationship was very very healthy till things happened and it started going downhill and started becoming unhealthy. Toxic in some cases even.

Veronica has a dog, Chandler has a cat, Duke has a hamster and Mac doesn't have any pets but she does like to pretend that every animal she comes across is hers.

The Heathers and Veronica had a falling out in middle school because of something (I won't tell what it is because it'll be spoiling my fanfic and my AU's plot).

Although they pretended like Veronica was no one and that they never had anything to do with her, they thought of her everyday when they fell out with each other before eventually kinda forgetting they used to be friends with each other in High School because they were occupied with things in life.

The Heathers basically banned everything that reminded them of Veronica in any way and would avoid mentioning or remembering anything about her.

Veronica could care less because she thinks they aren't the same people she first became good friends with.

Heathers Headcanons!

Hello, I have some Heather's headcanons to discuss. I made this image for it(Didn't really know if I should use their movie or musical versions, so I used their musical versions).

I love most of the ships that are between the heathers + veronica(Like Chandlamara, dukesaw, poly Heather's + veronica, ect.). But mainly I ship Chanduke and Mcnamaywer. But we sha'll begin with the headcanons!

(Also, ive edited this post like a few times, adding some stuff I forgot to add before...)

❤️Heather Chandler- Chandler is dating Heather Duke. She kinda doesn't understand why Duke is so into reading Moby Dick. She still acts like she hates Duke in public and tells her "Shut up, Heather" still, but in private, they like to cuddle and do stuff with each other. Chandler's also a huge supporter of veronica and McNamaras relationship. An instrument Chandler plays is the drums.

💙Veronica Sawyer- Veronica is dating Heather McNamara. She likes taking McNamara out when Mac feels down. Veronica also gives a lot of kisses and cuddles to McNamara when she's crying. She tends to be a journalist sometimes, and reviews stuff. Veronica loves doing new recipes and having Mac taste them. When her and Mac watch a movie, they cuddle under the covers while eating popcorn.

💛Heather Mcnamara- McNamara is dating Veronica Sawyer. She usually eats most of the popcorn when they both watch a movie together. She loves trying the new recipes Veronica does. Mac loves making music, and can plays lots of instruments, usually she plays the ukulele, piano, or guitar. She loves cuddling Veronica in bed. She sometimes acts like a baby towards Veronica. Mac can also draw pretty well too.

💚Heather Duke- Duke is dating Heather Chandler. She loves reading Moby Dick and such others books. Anytime Duke gets any type of cut(which is usually on her finger or forhead), Chandler always has bandaids to put on her(Chandler also wonders how Duke is getting these cuts). Duke sometimes tells Chandler "Shut up, Heather" to mock her. She's good with math and sometimes gets knitted things from McNamara. Duke also knows how to animate and draw very well. Instruments she can play are saxophone or violin.

Heathers: Group Headcanons- .Whenever it's free slushy(slushy,slushie,slushee) day at 7-11, they all go get slushy's(or slushies)together with a few snacks. Mac usually gets energetic when she drinks her slushy. Duke mainly is the one to find it weird but also understands why Mac gets energetic and is the one to calm her down.

.Usually during Christmas time, Veronica and Mcnamara call chandler and Duke the Christmas couple because Chandler wears red and Duke wears green.

. When Mac knits Duke something, she usually makes yarn cats. When she gives them to Duke, Duke pretends to not like them, but in private, Duke plays with the yarn cats and makes cat armies with them.

.Once it's St. Patrick's Day, Duke always pinches Chandler since she doesn't wear green. Chandler usually either gets mad or annoyed about this.

.Sometimes Chandler and Duke wear each other's signature color(Mainly at home, at night, they sometimes wear hoodies with each other's color on them).

.The group will sometimes have small get togethers(Usually at Chandler or Mac's house).

.When the group is at lunch, they sometimes make weird chaotic stories(Sometimes the stories are weirdly chaotic that they get a bit too serious.)

.Sometimes Duke and Mac come together and decided to both draw something together. They even do paintings together.

Some random extra stuff(Just some random stuff from my head):

Veronica:"Hey heather"

Chandler:"Yeah?"

Veronica:"you know how when you win a blue ribbon, it means you get first place"

Chandler, currently inspecting her nails:"mhmm"

Veronica:"and when you get a red ribbon it means you win second place"

Chandler, looks up at veronica:"shut up sawyer"

Duke:"mhm....."

Chandler:"Let's go tear up someone's lawn!"

(When duke said "and get in my jeep" it kind of sounded like she wanted to kidnap veronica.......is that just me? Candy store gives me vibes the heathers want to kidnap veronica....)

Like, Ronica, who is voicing out her annoyance towards the Heathers but then someone she's with in the room voices their disdain for them loudly and very obnoxiously. And Veronica who suddenly forgot she shouldn't care about them as people glares and with the most condescending voice you would ever hear from her goes "Say that again."

And the Heathers may or may not have overheard.

Veronica grumbled as she glared down at the note in her hand.

'Come to the parking lot after school, we need to get you actual clothes bitch

Veronica felt a falte of annoyance as she glanced at the note again, re-reading it as if it would magically change the words.

Well, it's not like she could ditch this time, she was already "on thin ice" since the party, if she missed this Chandler might show up at her house with an ax and murderous intent.

Veronica sighed in resignation. She opened her locker, with slightly more force than was necessary, cursing under her breath as she did.

"-Exactly! She obviously only got the position because of it, it makes sense, right Ronica?"

An obnoxious voice broke Veronica out of her thoughts. Veronica whipped around, facing the source of the voice, a shorter freshman, leaning against the locker beside her own, a far too cocky expression on his face, his friend, or at least Veronica assumed was his friend, standing on his left, wearing a notably more nervous expression.

"Pardon?" Veronica asked, raising an eyebrow at the young boy, not many people came up to her these days, at least not casually, everyone had left her alone since she joined the Heathers,apart from a few football players trying to gain a quick fuck or a country club kid trying to start small talk.

"Heather McNamara, everyone knows that she only made cheer captain because she spread her legs for the coach."

…

The kid was suicidal, it was the only possible explanation of why he would spout such bullshit, surely he wasn't that fucking stupid.

Veronica felt the thin sheet of patience she had left snap as she glared daggers at the kid.

The hallway went silent.

The freshman's friend, apparently the one with the common sense, looked Sorin wildly, seemingly searching for a possible escape route. The freshman himself still had a cocky grin on his face, apparently too stupid to realize he had just written his death in stone.

Veronica put her diary back into her locker turning to face the kid fully, her height now clearly displayed as she towered over the freshman.

"Say that again, even hint at it really, and I will make your life a living hell, you will be wishing for death by the time I'm done with you, I will make sure your can never even breathe normally again," Veronica said, her voice resembling a tone that you would use on a small child, it was loud enough for the freshman, and a couple of students that were nearby, to hear.

The confidence of the kid's face crumbled, his eyes now wide with fear as he stayed in shock at Veronica's word's.

"Do you understand me?" Veronica demanded more than asked, the kid could only nod rapidly.

"Good, now leave before I tear you a new asshole," Veronica said, apparently breaking whatever spell he had been under, making the kid scramble away, his friend close behind.

Veronica glared at them until they were no longer in her line of sight. Veronica turned back to her locker, reaching for her once again for her diary.

"Aww, who knew you were so protective, Sawyer."

Veronica froze momentarily at the familiar voice, she turned around to find Heather Chandler standing just across her, a smug smile spread on her face, just behind her were Duke, who had an unreadable expression, and Mac, who was completely red in the face.

Veronica's gaze lingered on Mac, was she sick? Embarrassed because of what the Gresham had said? That last thought made Veronica want to go in the hunt for the kid and make good on her promise.

"Come on now, we still have to go to the mall after all."

I'm gonna say some things.

As someone in the Heathers fandom AND ships Veronica and the Heathers, we all know there would be some kind of toxicity to it so I'll explain what kind of toxicity it would be (for both Movie and Musical) and how (a sort of effective way) to write them to be a good ship with character developments without them being too OOC.

Before I start, I'm just gonna say that to make this effective, it's gonna HAVE to be a slow burn. Like, a 10 season show with at least 40 episodes each.

Each character has issues.

Chandler (this applies to both Movie and Musical) has a god complex (not to JD's extent tho) and is controlling. She can't let go of the control and she is an asshole to a lot of people. Her power over the school got to her head, causing her to be like this.

Duke (musical) same as Chandler but add ambition to it. (Movie) In this case, it's more of she lets people walk all over her and she wants to prove she can be number 1 corrupted her mind, turning her into more of asshole. (Take note, Duke wasn't MUCH of an asshole in the movie til the red scrunchie)

McNamara (applies to both movie and musical) has bad mental health. As shown, suicidal. In the musical, Mac's mood went from depressed to happy which is wrong. But in the movie, we see her ask Veronica to cut off school early to go somewhere. (Meaning she knows her problem. And I think they did cut off early)

Veronica (applies to both) is a decent person however her views get the better of her. (Movie) It's why JD's views of a society easily got to her. (Musical) And it's why she stayed with him, believing that there's still good in him. (Remember she only left him when she realized he doesn't regret killing one bit)

Why did I say 10 seasons with 40 episodes each? We'll need to have 2 seasons dedicated to each Heather. If merged together, each episode will be focused on one Heather with some slight background of the other two. For Ronnie, one season is enough, specifically focused on her learning to look at every angle and not just what her views are. The other 3 seasons will focus on their relationships with each other.

Now for character development writing, whether we like it or not, something WILL HAVE TO HAPPEN to them for character development to work.

Chandler already gets date r*ped, Duke has bulimia, Mac has shitty mental health and Veronica was already bullied a lot before popularity.

So the other three will have to witness Chandler get date r*ped and get her out of there. Chandler complies to the date rape because of status, so once they learn that, they will talk her out of it. Whatever they say, they will end up saying something that would make her question if what she's doing is worth it.

For Duke, they're all aware of her bulimia, but it'll have to be worse. Since Duke (probably) starves herself, she'll probably faint one day the other three will have to see it and help her with it. Duke probably won't go to the doctor (yet) but she'll probably try to (slowly) learn to eat without throwing up.

Mac, in her case, (I'm sorry) she'll actually have to almost die with her attempt for this to work. So the other three will help her and stick around her. Comfort her and listen to her problems. Because of opening up, she'll learn to accept her feelings and learn how to properly cope.

Veronica, something REALLY BAD has to happen. While she's already popular now, there are still probably worse assholes than the Heathers that will probably beat her up to the point she can't move. And the other three will have to take care of her and check on her a lot.

Why am I suggesting these? Why is it always "the other three"? Because that's when they'll learn to care for someone. They'll learn to protect someone, recognize emotions, learn how to comfort someone. Not just for others, but for themselves as well. They'll have to learn to care for themselves too.

Now the Heathers, after these, will slowly learn to be nicer while Veronica will learn to be more brutal.

The Heathers are mean to an extent, so they have to learn to be nicer. Veronica is already nice, just a little petty, so she'll have to learn to toughen up more.

But this will happen slowly.

It's gonna take a long time for them to process all this. They'll learn to care for themselves and others.

Chandler lets go of her control issues, Duke learns to draw the line, Mac learns to acknowledge her feelings and Veronica leanrs to look all sides of a situation.

And once character development is done, relationship development is the main focus.

While during character development there will be noticeable relationship changes, it's not the main focus, the main focus is them developing as people.

So in relationship development, we'll see them defend, care and protect each other, we'll still need to see misunderstandings and miscommunications. These are teens so these are inevitable occurrences.

Petty fights, misunderstandings, miscommunications. These will happen, since they are teens, kids still learning and making stupid decisions. (I hate the miscommunication trope but in this it HAS to happen for the sake of learning to accept their mistakes and lower their pride)

They will have to go through a lot more bullshit, while not death, a lot of shit for them to learn.

Again, it's a slow burn so while I worded this out this way, how it works in the actual writing will show the development.

There are a lot more ways that I can't possibly list them all, but this is probably the simplest one.
