Random ass post of me working a hydraulic log splitter around 1978. A rancher out in Dixon gave us a deal on 12 giant Osage trees and all we had to do was cut them down, remove the stumps and hall away the wood. None of us had ever seen or worked with Osage wood before. It was bright orange almost fluorescent in color. It was so hard the Poulan chainsaw was throwing sparks. What seemed like free money turned out to be over a week of work for 24 cords of wood. This last part is not necessary to read but I looked up some fun facts: Osage wood hardness is around 2000 pounds (100 percent more than red oak).
