Chemo, Post Surgery

I got my first round of chemo via my pump on May 19th and I’m happy to report that I didn’t really feel anything. The doctors said that it doesn’t really have any side effects so that’s what I was expecting but it’s still nice to confirm it. On June 2nd I got my first round of systemic chemo post surgery and I’m sad to say that it wasn’t as much of a breeze as the pump. Whereas normally I feel really sick on Wednesdays and a more livable ickiness on Thursday and Friday, this time I was sick the whole time. My thought is that my body is still recovery from surgery so maybe it was just stretched too thin? Or maybe this is a result of chemo compounding, which I was know it does.

I also learned in that meeting on the 2nd that I still have 2 lymph nodes in my pelvis that have cancer. I’m not totally sure when and how along the way I believed that we got all of them in surgery, but that is not the case. I’m upset about that for obvious reasons. It is 1 more thing to add to the list of recovery, but mostly because I know more systemic chemo is in my future, more than if they weren’t there.

On June 16th I was supposed to get both pump and systemic chemo at the same time but due to high liver enzymes, they pushed it back a week. I’m at the point now where my immediate reaction to delaying chemo is “FUUUUCK YEEEESSSSSS” and then later, after the excitement wears off, I’m left with “wait, shoot, is everything ok? Is the reason I’m not getting chemo a big deal? Is it dangerous? What can I do?” I was told that high liver enzymes was to be expected and not to worry (hahahaha right right, no worrying going on over here). I got a new medication and they filled my pump with steroids to help.

I gotta say, the steroids have been pretty damn sweet. So far with my treatment, my experience with steroids has been super unpleasant. Before I get chemo, they start with a bag of steroids through the port. It’s a lot at one time and it makes me agitated and uneasy and I truly hate it. This whole steroids pump situation on the other hand, not too shabby! I get a milliliter dripped into my system each day and it has made me feel pretty happy and productive, in a calm way, non roid-ragey way.

My next chemo appointment is in 2 day and hopefully my bloodwork will allow it. I will be so thrilled that my levels look good and I get take 1 more step to beating this shit. Conversely, I will be nervous about the come down from this glorious week of steroids and feeling as sick as I did the last time. I know there is no point in looking ahead but as most cancer patients can probably tell you, this whole “one day at a time!” mantra is very challenging to live by.

One nice bit of learning from these last MSK visits is that the lidocaine cream I got to help numb the needle sights on my pump and port really works! It’s not exactly painless but it helps. So, there’s that? Lol.

QUARTET NIGHT - Bath/Shower HCs (SFW!)

Ranmaru:

- First off, it’s a shower. He’s not familiar with ‘luxury’ these days, old habits and all that.- That being said, you’ve long since cluttered his bathroom with products for the both of you. He grumbles about it but you know it’s for show.- You wash his hair, he washes your back. You kiss him and try not to get soap in your mouth. He laughs when you inevitably fail and pull a face.- He uses the same shampoo as you and it’s a nice, homely little link when the two of you are apart for the day.- Efficient and affectionate. A shower is for getting clean, not frisky (often), but it’s still a chance for the two of you to chill out at the end of the day, or set each other up with some ‘you’ time at the beginning of one.- You cats scream you the scream of their people from beyond the bathroom door. Both of you laugh at that.

Ai:

- Okay so I’m going to level with you: I’m pretty sure he’s not waterproof. He tends to avoid water in general and can only really stand getting damp or lightly wet so no baths or showers for him!- However let it never be said I’m one to leave someone hanging, so!- He can’t join you in the tub that comes as standard in his apartment, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t join you in the bathroom.- He runs you the bath (to an exact temperature you’re not privy to, but find the most relaxing).- He’s also picked out a multitude of softly scented products for you to pick and choose from. They all remind him of you, and it’s oddly comforting to him to have a fragrance he associates specifically with you.- Perches on the edge of the tub and reads to you while you chill out and destress. Intimacy isn’t always touches, after all.

Reiji:

- In times where it’s not a pick-me-up, return-to-yourself shower….there’s laughter!- Gathers you into his arms and the two of you just stand in the stream of hot water, chatting about your day.- While you wash your hair, he kneads the knots out of your shoulders. Sometimes rests his chin on your shoulder and you absolutely boop his nose with bubbles to make him sneeze, which leads to a very deliberately smothering kiss to the cheek.- You use his shower gel and it settles something in his chest he’s never really aware is even in turmoil. It’s such a basic thing, but it feels so quietly possessive and assuring that he can’t help buring his face in your neck when you’re both drying off.

Camus:

- L U X U R Y- Finally he gets to treat you! Bath oils, hair oils, the whole nine yards.- It depends on the day and how you both feel if he joins you in the tub for the pampering. You hand control over to him wholly when he helps you step into it and just relax as he washes and detangles your hair.- It’s sensual but not sexual when he washes your body, there’s just a lot of genuine care and attention he has to lavish on you.- If it’s one of Those Days, you pull him gently to join you and relax back into his arms. These times you talk a little, but mostly just relish the closeness and relaxation that comes from a] a warm bath and b] being with the one you love.- There is probably a cheese board and two wine glasses off to the side I refuse to believe anything to the contrary.
