Like with the rest of the Psychic 7, these two were friends. Otto’s ideas of dreams and ideas taking form as his gadgets actually mixed pretty well with Helmut’s ideas. And of course, Helmut thought the sword he got for his wedding from Otto was really cool.

Helmut’s “death” messed with Otto a lot. If he had just been more careful with the hypohyglaciator.. And now Bob won’t even talk to him. Otto wanted to stop feeling so guilty and terrible about Helmut, so that’s one of the reasons he used the Astralathe. Then he found the brain in the Heptadome, and didn’t think too much about it. It was probably nothing. So he just put it into his hall of brains.

When Helmut figured out where he had been all those years, he was a little annoyed with Otto. Why couldn’t he have kept better track of all the brains he had? If it weren’t for Raz, he’d still be in there. But Helmut isn’t one to hold grudges, he isn’t actually angry at Otto. 

Otto on the other hand, is conflicted. Messing with the Astralathe did some weird stuff to his brain, and now that everyone involved was back? Someone might want to take a look in his brain. When Otto told Raz he truly believed it was all Ford’s fault, that was a lie. He hired Lucy, he created and used the hypohyglaciater, he didn’t thoroughly check the hall of brains… He’d go to therapy, but making the mini-astralathes is cheaper. Maybe he can try and make it up to Helmut by helping get his body back. 

TLDR: Close friends, and glad to see each other again, but there's a lot to unpack

You know, I found one of Helmut's vaults really interesting.

See, the Otto we find in Bob's mind says the team didn't like Bob, and only tolerated him as a tag-along for Helmut. But look at these memories:

Bob was with the team before Helmut arrived--in fact, it seems like Helmut was the last of the team to join up. Bob joined the Psychonauts on his own merits, and was presumably good friends with everyone before as well.

It speaks volumes to Bob's self-loathing--and love for his husband--that his own mind would twist the timeline so much on such an important part of Bob's life.

Idk how psychic abilities work or how new ones are discovered, but I think it'd be really cool if Helmut suddenly gets cryokinesis after they rescue his body from the ice.

I get the whole seperation of the physical and mental, but I just think it'd be neat.

So Jack Black plays the first Psychonauts, right, and he LOVES it. So much so that when Double Fine makes Brütal Legends, HE approaches THEM and asks to do voicework for the game. And then, he slays the gig so hard they're just like "holy shit dude, we have to let this guy stick around".

And now, Jack Black is IN Psychonauts 2--he is A Psychonaut! He is living the dream! And if that isn't inspiration idk what is.

Both Sasha and Milla call Loboto by his first name (her while presenting the award, him while asking for cooperation), and Oleander just calls him "Cal".

While it makes sense they'd want to establish familiarity and make him feel comfortable enough to talk, I think it's really funny that they refuse to acknowledge his (probably self-appointed) Doctor title.
