I love doing these Owner vs Company posts because I find it really interesting to see what people make from the original sculpts and faceups =)

I personally love to use these sculpts for different genders than the company made them to be (these sculpts are kinda androgynous to start with).

Some of these are dyed to match the body I hybrided them on (Woosoo and Rheia), many of them are on hybrid bodies (I just love having different options)

I might add the eventheads in a reblog in the future. It's just not as much fun as these don't have a company one to compare to.

I figured out where all the micro bjd were coming from (⁠◍⁠•⁠ᴗ⁠•⁠◍⁠)⁠❤ and grabbed these girls! they are Doubaozi Doll/luladoll Douxiaoman and Douxingxing i will need to label who is who before i forget ;;; they came in absolutely adorable bunny tins and an extra pair of blank eyes you can make your self

I wanted 2 child dolls to go with my own 1/12 doll Orchid but considering how long it's taking me to finish and not feeling particularly exited about the prospect of spending another decade to sculpt some 1/12 child sized bjd i am more then happy with these!

Dusty (orientdoll so-ye, a short lived offshoot of leekee I think it was?) is the same size as a pukipuki, the former champion of smallest bjd you could get, for all those old times collectors who know what size that is and a barbie for size comparison

Years ago I downsized my collection and got rid of some Fairyland dolls, and I've regretted it ever since.

This week I looked and PukiPukis were available, but I couldn't really justify ordering, so I thought maybe I'd save up and make it a goal. Turns out that was only for a limited time, and they're now out of stock, no indication when they come back.

Anyone know how often Fairyland tend to bring things back in stock? Are we looking at possibly having PukiPuki back in a few months, or is it "Who knows, could be 2026"?

I originally got into the hobby because I was fascinated by the way that the joints worked; more than wanting a doll I wanted to string a doll. So, I bought a 3d-printed kit where you had to put your doll together yourself. I just wish I knew it was 1/16 scale.

I mean, I got what I wanted out of it — an understanding of how the tension holds the joints in their rotated place, counterbalanced by the weight of the limbs — but I did want to customize her, and *that* made me feel like a medieval peasant. I couldn’t find 1/16 sized anything anywhere online (this was before I knew that PukiPukis were 1/16 scale), so I had to make everything from wigs to socks myself…not to mention faceups at that scale are really, really painful.

She looks great now, but ugh, I wish I’d had less hubris about being able to work from scratch. I literally ordered a vinyl MDD and resin MSD so I can do it all over but maybe it’ll actually be fun when my thumb isn’t half the width of the doll’s face

"I want to collect BJDs, but they're so expensive!"

It's tiny, but I've found a great BJD option for people who don't have the money for a resin cutie, as long as you don't mind a blind box.

Penny's Box (link is for US buyers) is a line of blind-box dolls that are about 6" tall. They are tension-strung BJDs, but because they are made of PVC and ABS plastics, they are WAY cheaper than resin dolls. They also have painted-on eyes instead of inset eyes, and their hair is a solid block of plastic. (You can buy an optional head cap for $5 that allows you to use a brushable wig instead, though, if you prefer.)

3 sets of these dolls have been released so far, with more to come: Nature's Secret, School Hunting, and Teennar.

Each doll comes with a full outfit and some extra hands for posing with. BJDs tend to be more of a "make-your-own-character kit" vibe, so they often don't come with hair, eyes, clothes, or paint. These are ready-to-go right out of the box.

The doll also can fit into Pukipuki/Obitsu11 clothes, so it's easy to find or make extra outfits that will fit them. If you buy more than one doll, you can mix and match the hair and clothing, which is also fun. While the doll itself is a surprise, there are 6 common dolls and 1 super-rare "secret" doll in each set, and you can see all 6 common dolls on the page you order from. You can also order a full set of 6, if you really want. (That option's a bit beyond my budget at the moment, which is also why I have so few resin-babies.)

Here are some reviews I've found, so you can see the quality level of the dolls and get a better feel for their size:

Again, I know that these aren't for everyone. But if you're looking for a cute ball-jointed doll that costs US$20-25 plus shipping, this is it. They're cute, they give you a good feel for how a ball-jointed body moves, and they're decent quality for the price. Plus, as of this writing (October 2022), they are working on a CENTAUR set, which should release early next year. (I am totally stoked--I love centaur dolls, even though they're really tricky to make clothes for.)

So, in a side note on their Sarang event notice, fairyland mentioned that they'll 'temporarily' discontinue Littlefees. They also said that some faceplates will be permanently discontinued.

So... if you know me, you know how I feel about FL 'temporarily' discontinuing anything.

You know what has been temporarily discontinued (and not come back so far?)

Minifee Ruth (in 2015), Pukipukis (I think Pongpong was available a while ago and that was it), the Moe-line boy body, Active-line boy body, a whole bunch of minifee sculpts (sure, a hand full has returned as look back heads, but only for very limited time), and the list probably goes on and on.

So, yeah, don't trust them at all that any of this is temporary and even if it is.

They said themselves that they'll discontinue some sculpts permanently.

Which ones? Nobody knows! And according to my friends who emailed them about it, even they don't know yet 🤷‍♀️

So anyway. I did something impulsive today.

OK, if I'm being honest, not super impulsive as I've had her in my cart a few times already, and I know if she'd be kicked forever, I'd regret not getting her...

Also, my mum told me to get her, and I listen to my mum 😊
