I can't stop thinking about how Hiccup and Toothless' relationship is built on trust and has been built on trust the whole time. But more than that, it was built on trust from their very first scene.
Hiccup holds Toothless' life in his hands and he chooses to let him go, even though Toothless could very well (and might) kill him.
Toothless then has the power and he could easily kill Hiccup. He probably considers it just like Hiccup did, but he responds to Hiccup's kindness with kindness of his own, and he lets him live.
So when Hiccup goes down into the cove, there is already a tentative understanding between them that neither means to bring the other any harm. You have spared me, I have spared you, we are equal.
But both are still wary.
So Hiccup makes a decision to trust Toothless with his life again when he throws the knife into the lake. Not that the knife would have protected him much from Toothless, but it is presumably the same weapon that Hiccup would have taken his life with to begin with, and it's more about what it represents. So Hiccup gives the power in the situation over to Toothless when he throws the knife away. Now that Toothless doesn't see Hiccup as a threat to him, he calms down.
Toothless trusts Hiccup when he eats the fish Hiccup brought with him the first time, and the basket of fish the next time. Eventually, both of them are relaxed. Hiccup can just sit on a stump and draw in the dirt, Toothless can nap, there is no worry that one will kill the other. There is mutual trust.
They bond, Toothless shares his fish, Hiccup smiles (which Toothless clearly understands to some extent bc he smiles back), Toothless draws, Hiccup plays along w Toothless' game, until finally Hiccup decides to reach out to touch him.
He tried before, when Toothless was resting in the sun, but that didn't go very far, bc Toothless didn't trust him. But NOW, things have changed. They have spent enough time together that Toothless is less wary. But not entirely.
Hiccup sees this, that he is asking for trust from Toothless, so he puts his trust in Toothless first. He closes his eyes and turns away, and just like that, Hiccup once again shifts the power from himself to Toothless. (Cutting the ropes, throwing the knife). And so Toothless trusts him.

I love the fact that Hiccup has a whole little speech that he periodically gives Astrid to remind her that the twins serve a purpose like what else does he have to constantly remind them of
The 'Snotlout is clearly going through something rn just let him be stupid' speech
The 'Stop telling Tuffnut you're gonna eat Chicken, I can only handle him sobbing in my hut for so long' speech
The 'Stop jumping out at Fishlegs at night' speech
The 'Don't interrupt Astrid while she's throwing axes bc I can't save you' speech
The 'No you CANNOT shove the dragon eye up your ass no matter HOW MUCH you want to see if the projection scome outof your mouth' speech (that one's mostly for Tuffnut)

The twins are SO smart. They successfully sneak into a MASSIVE dragon hunter operation, Ruff managed to steal that key by faking an emotional breakdown and confuse Viggo about when they would attack, they're constantly teaching the gang new words and concepts, they speak at LEAST 3 languages, they've written at LEAST one book that was on the top of some best seller list somewhere, they've memorized so many random facts that they will never need, they've managed to learn how to fly through the air and do BATTLE while working together with each other AND both heads of their dragon as ONE UNIT

Bc Stormfly's based on birds and stuff and she preens, I like to think she does that to show affection. Like, she grooms/preens the other dragons. At first she only did it w Astrid (which is obviously painful lol, she's all beaky and toothy), and Astrid got used to it, but as she started to get closer w the other riders too she'd do it.
At first Astrid gets Snotlout like sprinting across the Edge screaming to hide behind her like?? YOUR DRAGON IS TRYING TO KILL ME??? and she's like no man she just does that she's being nice lol
I like to think she also tries to like, build nests. Like Astrid will come back to her hut and find just these MASSIVE tree branches in a pile in the middle of it and be like?? wtf?
Her life is a constant state of dragging tree branches out of her hut and also returning blankets and spears and whatever else Stormfly deemed nestworthy back to the rest of the riders.
Taking the *Stormfly steals stuff from the gang* thing further, what if she just really loves shiny things (bc bird) and so she steals shiny weapons and jewelry and stuff from the rest of the gang and puts it in Astrid's hut. Tuff'll be like I can't find macey:( and Astrid's like oh go look under my bed I'm pretty sure I saw her there

I think it's really interesting that the whole first movie Stoick is defining what Hiccup 'isn't', and the movie kinda revolves around Hiccup figuring out what he 'is'
Like Stoick is always saying 'you're many things Hiccup, a dragon killer is not one of them', 'i knew who I was, what I had to become, Hiccup is not that boy', 'you're not my son', etc etc, he defines Hiccup by what he isn't until Hiccup shows him what he is

So genius that all of the main dragons in the gang have different fire types like,,,,
They're all so suited to different things and we see that sometimes, like how that diversity is useful.
Toothless' plasma blasts are more agressive and direct. He can aim with precision and hit things with a HUGE impact super deadly
Stormfly's fire is just like a JET of sparks and is also the hottest, super super dangerous super cool
Hookfang's got like sticky fire that comes out in a stream and like holds to walls and stuff and presumably burns and smolders long after he's sent it out
Meatlug has these balls of lava that she can spew (a lot like Toothless) but also they're super good for just laying down a puddle??? of LAVA????
and Barf and Belch have their gas/spark combo that allows them to create giant explosions in specific areas/shapes/sizes, and their gas can get into crevices and stuff
So we see this used in all kinds of cool ways,
like how they can only break the dragon proof chains if they're all working at them with their different firepower,
or how Toothless can take out specific hunters (or shoot all of Ryker's armor and weapons away lol) because he can hit with such precision,
or how the cuffs on the dramillion's tails can only be removed when you have Meatlug's lava to break them down and weaken them and then Stormfly's magnesium blast to do the final damage,
or how the twins are able to get rid of the wall of rock in the cavern crasher episode bc the gas gets in the crevices, or how the can seperate people with deliberately placed walls of fire or explosions and stuff,
and I would totally count Hookfang's gel as a part of his firepower, so him being able to flame up and break amber coccoons or burn nets away and stuff is just SO handy
Stormfly can melt rock w her flame when she's trying hard enough, like the wall Meatlug and Fishlegs put up (w Meatlug's super cool super unique lava blast that makes it to where she can create structures w rock if she wants to, kinda like she did w the sentinels)
Speaking of the sentinels, Meatlug's lava creates a constant low heat like the heat needed to wake the sentinels; like,,,, Stormfly or Toothless couldn't have given them what they needed to wake up, it had to be Meatlug's lava
Anyway I'm sure there are more examples but I just think that the way the dragons shows utilize the dragon's unique abilities is AWESOME but one of the coolest ways is the way they utilize their different fire types and show them working together and stuff, that's just cool

Do you think that the gang's dragons will like, get help for their rider if they're sad?? There's no danger or anything, but Fishlegs is crying and Meatlug can't make it stop so she runs to get Hiccup and drag him to Fishlegs' hut or smth so that he can comfort him too?? Like idk they just look out for them

These dragons shows REALLY knew what we needed, we got a HUGE variety of cool new dragons w all of these different diverse designs and abilities, and they develop the relationships between the gang to make them feel like a family and give them the most WONDERFUL bickery loving dynamic, and also gave them 9 pet chickens, and gave us scenes of the dragons playing together and ALL of the adorable hicctooth and hiccstrid moments, and they gave all of the gang developed personalities and traits and stuff and depth and expanded the archipelago and referenced HTTYD 1 AND 2 and ALSO GOTNF I'm p sure they just tie it all together and flesh it out so WELL

Okay okay okay but the fact that different members of the gang sometimes ride Toothless on their own means that Hiccup taught them all how to maneuver Toothless's tailfin which ig is common sense or wtv but I love that so much

I think that the Johann reveal worked REALLY well considering the fact that they weren't planning on it for like 6 seasons, but I wish that once they HAD decided on it, they had, like, eased us into it. Like instead of revealing him immediatly they started to do things more deliberately to incriminate him until we're starting to doubt him, and then officially reveal him as a villain to us when they reveal him to Hiccup
