Hi! Would you be willing to show me how to order layers and draw on them to preserve shadows/lines/etc? I'm using Clip Studio Paint and I imagine the process would be similar in other programs, but knowing how to order my drawing with the base layers and then removing everything to get the site-submittable version with shadows is the hardest part for me. Is the elements friendly version easier to use for this?
Thank you! I love your artwork.
I also use CSP! My process is very simple. I draw my entire skin on a new canvas using a scryshop dragon I download and resize up to my working size. (I resize to 1250px because that's what works best for me and my 6px default round brush, but the official psds are 750.)
All of my 'skin' working layers are contained in a single folder (with an optional clipping mask in the shape of the dragon, so nothing goes out of bounds.) I've taken a screenshot of my FF entry for you. The working skin folder is collapsed to show you the setup. Everything in there is just the lineart and coloring that I drew.
I don't actually use the official template psd in any way EXCEPT at the end when my skin is already done. I pull these two - clip lines and clip shadows - out and copypaste them over to my working canvas. Left is official template psd, right is my canvas. I just clip them both onto the folder containing the skin I've made.
Then at the end, I turn off the dragon and BG layer and save the entire thing as a png to resize. You're done!

"having all ancient genes condensed to just one (ancient) version would not work because people can't read!!"
While it's true that FR players can't read, I really don't think this would be that big of a problem? Anyone that isn't a complete newbie will use the scrying workshop to first create a scry before they start buying genes. The scryshop obviously won't let you preview genes on dragons that don't have them, which lowers the risk of someone grabbing a gene and being confused why it's not applicable.
Honestly, anyone that might be worried about having to read through the tooltips and remember compatible breeds and whatnot: you won't have to. In the process of making a scry you will already know exactly what genes you need to grab without having to read any tooltips

hey do you think anyones tried to fork the scrying workshop? ive been locked out of my account for like a year now and i rlly want to use it but like. it needs an account. i just want to maks my blorbos as dragons im not quite sure why it needs an account
No idea, friend.
I think I remember someone maybe toying with a similar idea, but no clue if it ever happened or if there's any legality / ToS issues with that.
Also I know you can screw around with the scryshop URLs to change the genes so a spreadsheet that does it isn't impossible at all. I'd do it myself if I had a day or two free.

Today happens to be my birthday! I'm now... 24. That's crazy to think about.
But! I wanted to hatch a gen1 today for my birthday, and I got pretty lucky with the bebe I hatched!
I don't have any plans yet because I quite literally just hatched them, but I'm eager to play around in the scryshop :3c
