Hakuoki Character Drama CD Book Vol 1 - Okita

Alright! This is my first post of the month, so I’ll start by asking you to please support me if you can through my ko-fi, and paypal or patreon! Finally got my patreon back in order almost until the start of October though I now have a headache from translating so much lol! Sorry it took so long! Not sure what I’ll do for December yet as I’m considering translating just the 2020 CxM X-mas story and the only other Café Enchante content I have, and then subtitling the rest of the month... as I really would like to get a head-start on my 2023 queue (aka yuugiroku) and want time to get my video stuff out of the way.

Also, I’m 100% certain that I’ll be shipping the Hakumyu Shinkai Saito-hen Blu-ray I’ve ordered this month since my proxy address has received the Morimyu CDs along with some other things that I was looking for, and I am getting super impatient... plus I helped my brother pre-order two FE3H figurines from Japan so anything else is going to be consolidated when shipping those.

Anyway. I ended up going with deciding to translate all of these Character Dramas... mainly because of Saito’s (obviously due to bias and bias>all :P), but most of them did make me smile while reading them... Slight angst warning for this one though cuz it’s souji hahaha.

Hakuoki Character Drama CD Book Volume 1 Okita Souji-hen - Autumn Leaves Sentiments (not 100% bout the title name again)

Act 1

Time: morning

Location: Bedroom

SE: the sound of sparrows

Yukimura:.....Nn.

【The sunlight stung me when I opened my eyes. The rain/storm windows [literally rain window] opened as they swayed, and chilling feeling from the autumn wind coming in, reminded me that summer had passed.】

Yukimura: Huh? Why is the window open...

【I looked over to Souji-san, who should have been sleeping beside me.】

Yukimura; Eh? Souji-san, where did you go?

【I used my hand to check where Souji-san had slept in bed, but I wasn't able to feel any heat [word I have is 'temperature'], so it seems like he hadn't just left. As I hurriedly got up, someone from behind suddenly stopped me. 】

Okita: Ah, you're already up. You could have slept a while longer.

【Hearing that familiar voice, I turned my head and saw Souji-san, who was apparently in a good mood.】

Yukimura: Souji-san! Where did you go in your night clothes [alt: pajamas, but given the time period 'night clothes' felt more appropriate...]?

Okita: I woke up too early. After seeing your cute sleeping face, I thought of this..... here, for you.

【As he spoke, Souji-san decorated my hair with something.】

Yukimura: ? What is this...?

Okita: They're Momiji leaves [the tl i use translates to "red autumnal leaves", but since "紅葉 " is in the JP title, I'll be using that term, “momiji”, which are Japanese maple trees.]. The last time I picked wild vegetables with you, I found a maple tree. Afterwards, I realized that it was almost time for the maple leaves to be in season. Actually I originally wanted to come home before you got up to scare you, but that unfortunately failed.

【Once he said that, Souji-san stuck out his tongue with a mischievous expression. Seeing that expression, I couldn't say that I felt uneasy because he had left me by myself...】

Yukimura: Really.... in that case, shouldn't you have left a note?

【Souji-san showed an apologetic expression to me, who was a little angry.】

Okita: Sorry, I was only thinking about making you happy when I went out. As an apology, after finishing breakfast, I'll bring you to see the maple tree.

【With that, Okita-san pressed his index finger over his mouth, as if he were he were keeping a secret.】

Yukimura: hehe, I understand. Then let's go after eating breakfast, and once I finish drying our wet clothes [I'm assuming this is supposed to be "laundry"].

Okita: Eh, if you want to dry the laundry, you can do it tomorrow. I want to show you right away. It really is very pretty. The tree is dyed in red and yellow, it really resembles a dessert/almost like a snack.

Yukimura: I'm looking forward to it, but I must hang my clothes well before going. More importantly, isn't it cold outside? You'll catch a cold when you go in your night clothes.

Okita: Ah, speaking of which, it did seem a bit cold. Because all I was thinking about was the momiji leaves, I didn't notice it that much. But you don't need to worry, I'm fine.

Yukimura: The next time you go out, you must remember to change your clothes.

Okita: Nn, I'll change my clothes then. I don't want to make you worry.... Haaah [this is a yawn. i don't know what's the best sfx text to use], maybe I got up too early this morning, Maybe I got up too early in the morning, I'm still sleepy.

Yukimura: Then go to sleep for a bit, alright? I'll go prepare breakfast, I'll wake you up once it's ready.

Okita: Nn, that so. But, it's fine to have breakfast a little later, come and sleep with me.

【With that, Souji-san pulled my hand and tried to pull me back under the covers.】

Yukimura: But, I'm already awake...

Okita; If you can't sleep, just stay with me until I fall asleep before leaving.

Yukimura: In that case, won't we be too late to see the momiji leaves?

Okita: Oh, how bothersome. Then I'd better get up and get changed.

Yukimura: Then I'll go change and go prepare breakfast.

Okita: Ah, wait.

【With that, Okita-san put his hand on my head.】

Okita: Good morning.

【He smiled at me.】

Act 2

Time: Noon

Location: Outside

SE: footsteps

Okita: Autumn is coming. You're right, wind is getting colder outside. Aah, I won't be able to take a nap in the sun soon.

【As Souji-san walked, he expressed his regret that summer was coming to an end.】

Yukimura: Ah, Souji-san truly loves taking naps on the grass.

Okita: Nn. It's fine now, but it's not doable in the winter. Although sleeping in a room isn't bad, it's more comfortable to sleep outside [when/where] the wind is blowing.

Yukimura: Speaking of which, while we were still in Kyoto, you would often take naps /

Okita: Indeed. At the time I often took naps on the roof to hide from the annoying HIjikata-san. Ahaha, I haven't fallen down even once.

Yukimura: Sleeping on the roof... Don't do that sort of danger thing in the future again.

Okita: I won't. Because I don't need to sneakily hide around like that anymore, and rather want you to take more care of me.

Yukimura: Really... Souji-san is always like this...

【As I spoke, I stared at Souji-san. There was something I always wanted to say to him... so I might as well take the opportunity...】

Okita: Since you're staring at me, is there something wrong?

Yukimura: Well, I find taking it's very comfortable to take a nap, but if you take too many naps, won't you be unable to sleep at night?

Okita: I'm glad that you're worrying about me, but I'll still be able to fall asleep. Because as long as you're lying down next to me, I can fall asleep immediately if I hold onto you. Don't you think so?

Yukimura: That's right.

Okita: As long as I'm holding you as you sleep/If I sleep with you in my arms, I will always fall asleep immediately. That way, even when it comes time for us to part, I feel that I'll always be with you... such a thing is obviously impossible.

【With that, Souji-san held my hand that he was tightly holding even tighter. His hand was gentle and soft, and I grasped his hand.】

Okita: I'm so happy that I'm able to walk with hand in hand with you like this, it's terrifying. We'll be there soon, so don't let go of my hand.

Yukimura: Yes!

-time lapse-

【After a while, we reached the momiji trees.】

Yukimura; Wow, how beautiful!

【The entire tree was adorned with red maple leaves, and looked truly unreal.】

Okita: Rights, it's really beautiful.

【Souji-san wasn't looking at the momiji leaves, but rather at me, and his expression seemed very satisfied. [reword later. the sentence structure is screwed up... but im lazy and have a tendency to follow what the tl does until i need to worry about subtitling]】

Okita: That's great. I just wanted to see you with that expression.

Yukimura: Thank you, Souji-san. You brought me to see such beautiful momiji.

【After expressing my thanks, Souji-san revealed a smile, and he finally looked towards the maple trees.】

Okita:....Ah, you may not remember, but this isn't the first time we've gone together to enjoy momiji. A long time ago... although I don't remember the exact time, but on the way back from a patrol, I brought you to mountains in Kyoto. At the time, while it was only the two of us, the feeling was completely different from now.

Yukimura;....I remember. It was quite windy that day, but the maple leaves were also very beautiful.

【Okita-san seemed to be startled by what I said. It seems that he didn't think I would have remembered. Then, Souji-san sat beneath a huge momiji tree and waved to me, so I sat down next to him. 】

Okita: I'm certain, that during that time, I started paying attention to you because you were the first person to listen to my jokes... No, it was just Kondou-san and you.

Yukimura:........

Okita: I didn't expect to recall that upon seeing these momiji, and how I would always say mean things to you. I hope you can forget that, at look at how I am now.

Yukimura: No, I won't forget that. Because that's an important memory from before I met Souji-san and when we lived here together.

Okita: That's really amazing, since you put it that way, it seems that it's become a very important memory.... Well, it's not that there are no memories that you want to forget. But the time we spent together with everyone is still firmly kept in my mind [reword later?].

【With that, Souji-san placed a hand over his chest, and I put my hand over his.】

Yukimura: Please don't forget any of your memories. Because we've been able to live together like this today, all of those memories have accumulated.

Okita:....Well, yeah. No that won't do, I always let you see how weak I am. In fact, I want you to depend on me a bit more.

Yukimura: I am always depending on Souji-san. I'm able to live peacefully in my hometown now because Souji-san is here.

Okita; I'm happy that you're able to say that.

【With that, Souji-san lifted his head and looked at the momiji.】

Okita: Let's go back after looking at these for a while. I really like looking at stuff together with you like this.

Yukimura: Nn, I like that too.

【Thus, the two of us snuggled up together and looked up at the momiji.】

Act 3:

Time: Evening

Location: Bedroom

【After making the bed, I used one of the momiji leaves I had picked as a bookmark. At that moment, Souji-san came in from behind. 】

SE: Footsteps

Okita; What are you doing?

Yukimura: I want to make something out of the momiji leaves we brought back today as a souvenir/memento...

【As I said this, I put the maple leaf into the book that was in my hands. As a result, in order to not interfere [tl is 'disturb' or 'bother'] Souji-san hugged me from behind...】

Okita: As a souvenir from today, is it. If only we could ? I wish we could commemorate more [things like this] for just the two of us in the future/["I wish we could create more memories for the two of us in the future".... i suppose would work?].

【As he spoke, Souji-san gazed sleepily at the book that the leaf had been put into it. Seeing him like this, I knew what he was thinking.】

Yukimura: We'll be together in the future, won't we?

【To alleviate my uneasiness, I said something like that.】

Okita: Nn, we'll always be together.

【Souji-san only said one sentence, and smiled.】

Okita: Okay, let's go to sleep. [I/We. got no subject in this sentence..] walked a lot today, and seem to be quite tired.

Yukimura: Okay.

【With that, we laid down together. After putting out the light, I closed eyes, but drowsiness didn't come... just then, Souji-san suddenly spoke. 】

Okita: Hey, are you asleep?

【Hearing Souji-san's words, I opened my eyes.】

Yukimura: No

Okita; Before falling asleep, I want to ask you something. Getting up in the morning... going for a walk together after eating breakfast, eating together, and then falling asleep like this...

What do you think of such an ordinary day?

【In the face of Souj-san's slightly impatient question, I thought of my response for a moment. 】

Yukimura: I think it's just because it's so normal, that's why its a very important day. I'm very happy to be able to live peacefully with Souji-san like this.

Okita: hehe, it's great that you can say that. But I think differently.

【With that, Souji-san patted my head.】

Okita: Being able to spend my days peacefully with my lover/spouse, is already extraordinary for me. Every day when I wake up, you're right beside me, eating the meals you've cooked together, walking with you while holding your hand, and sleeping with you... For me, everything is already a miracle.

I want to spend every day with you together like this.

【Perhaps seeing the unease in my heart, Souji-san deliberately spoke in a gentle words to reassure me. 】

Yukimura: I love you, Souji-san.

Okita: Nn, I love you too

【After that, he gently kissed my forehead. Listening to Souji-san's words, my mind was at ease, and I finally closed my eyes. I could vaguely hear Souji-san's voice.... 】

Okita: Good night, see you tomorrow.

【I fell fast asleep】

Like the Hijika one I translated for last week, I put in the -san suffix everywhere I though it would likely go. This is also going to be the last time I mention this... cuz I’m lazy.

It’s been a while~ Were you guys able yo catch Hakumyu Shinkai Saito-hen? I have a lot of thoughts about it but I have to say, I think it’s Teruma’s best performance as Sannan yet. It makes me nervous that they’re ramping up for a Sannan-hen soon. (Only because travel restrictions would prevent me from physically being able to watch it in person)

I was able to get new goods but didn’t take a pic before I put them on display… but I did take another flip through of my Sannan Bromide Album.

I am watching Sannan-hen (not the blu-ray/dvd one of course) and oh dear...there is so much to say about the scenography and all the symbolism around the lights. It's incredible how they improve the songs and their performance.

Trust me, soon I will blabbing through analysis about the Shinkai scenography because there is SO MUCH to say. Like Sannan-hen is up on my list concerning scenography but Saito-hen 2 and Souma-hen have good ideas too.

The 48 Group announced they will perform a new stage play in November, “Jingi Naki Tatakai ~Onnatachi no Shito-hen~”! The stage play will be an adaptation of “Jingi Naki Tatakai”, a series of yakuza films from the 1970′s.

...Idk if you already know about it but apparently theres a new hakumyu coming out spring 2018, hijikata hen? With wada masanari as hijikata... thought you’d like to know!

Huh. Again? Still? That’s good news and all, but don’t we already have not one, but two versions of Hijikata’s route out there…? If they have enough support to continue working their HakuMyu magic, I personally would rather they move on to adapting the Shinkai routes, or maybe redo a different one from the original series (Saito in particular deserves a reboot once they find an actor who can carry a leading role, given that his was the Very First Musical and everyone was still finding their rhythms), but I suppose they must have their reasons. Thanks for letting me know, I’ll keep an eye out for more~

21. Saito’s parting was well done. Naya Takeru’s delivery was wonderful.

22. ...song was on and off though.

23. Matsuda Gaku has really developed. :)

24. The song after AburanoKoji had it’s good points.

25. Yamazaki comes. Yamazaki goes.

26. LOL Harada’s hakama are kinda short on him, rofl.

27. Kazama stil looks like friend-Ena and it’s weird.

28. Shiranui’s solo is also good. That will be great at the next LIVE.

29. Chizuru screams a lot in this one. Shiranui gets really mean and it’s awesome. Looking forward to his route in Shinkai because I bet this in there. >D I don’t remember anything like this from the regular route, but it’s been a while.

30. Good to have a group song where you can actually hear Chizuru’s voice. I really like that her soprano cuts through the men.

Could you pls rank your fav to least fav for all the hakumyus up to now? From Saito hen to Hakumyu Live 2. I'm curious on your thoughts and opinions >

Oh man, so this isn’t an easy ask. I’m kind of the worst at ranking things and sticking to it, especially when it comes to these musicals. I’m going to rank these basically by how re-watchable I’ve found most of the musicals to be. I tend to watch certain musicals more than others and I guess that’s probably the most natural way to realize that you’ve started forming preferences.

So here’s where I stand at the moment (please forgive the rambling word-vomit in advance):

1. Toudou Heisuke-hen - It’s honestly a toss between Heisuke-hen and Kazama-hen for which musical I’ve watched the most at this point, but Heisuke-hen instantly had me in love from the get-go. Maybe it’s because it’s Junya and he just nails Heisuke so well but I have very little to complain about in this musical. It was as true to the in-game route as you can get in 2ish hours and the music was pretty fantastic, especially considering I’m not big on salsa-type music, which took a little getting used to, but it was very Heisuke. I’m always torn on this one cast-wise because that’s the only area I feel that Heisuke-hen lacks. Junya and Marina are perfect in the title roles and their chemistry still slays me but it’s a shame we had to lose Ryo and Hiroshi. Though I’ve always felt Izawa Yuki might’ve improved with time. He’s an amazing singer and I think he could’ve done pretty well as Hijikata if he really had a chance to settle in, but at least by act two he seems to have gotten into it a bit more. His singing is A+. You also have Kazama being the most likeable he can possibly get in this series and I just... I’m so happy to have Sen-hime. Having two girls on stage was such a long time in coming. I dunno, Heisuke-hen managed to be enjoyable, funny and emotional--it really as like Heisuke himself. I laughed, I cried, it was just such a good time.

2. Kazama Chikage-hen - Anyone who would’ve known me when I first saw this knows that initially Kazama-hen left me SO angry. There was a lot to process at the end of that 2.5 hours and at first I honestly was just so angry I couldn’t bring myself to watch it again for at least a week. But when I finally did go back to it, it was compelling. It’s really weird because until Reimeiroku I honestly think Kazama-hen was probably the worst story and character wise. Kazama is supposed to be the lead role and yet he fails to redeem himself whatsoever. It’s almost tragic really. Even in his own musical Kazama can’t be the good guy and I mean, you don’t go killing Hijikata like that and NOT piss me off in the process. Maybe it’s because I spent countless hours subtitling it but cast-wise and music-wise Kazama-hen is hands down my favorite. The music is fantastic and there was just so much in the details to process but what kills me every time is Kazama. I don’t know what was going on with the direction in the musical but the fire that Shougo usually puts in Kazama wasn’t there. He just seemed so bored the entire musical and it was just so disappointing, imo. It’s hard to put into words but when you see how Shougo has handled the role in every other musical and then you watch this one it’s like was out of it or something. The one thing I’m happiest about in this is Chizuru. I’m so glad in the end that she stood her ground and refused to go with him. I remember people being so upset at that but he killed Hijikata, brutally, in front of her. Chizuru has more self-respect than that. I guess Kazama having a grudging respect and being by Chizuru’s side as she follows the Shinsengumi’s demise was too boring. I dunno, Kazama/Chizuru is my least favorite ship in Hakuouki in general so in all the moments Kazama was supposed to be even grudging caring he just felt distant and cold, I couldn’t get behind that. I watch this musical over a lot though. I think it’s mostly bias because of how hard I worked to translate it, heh ^^;;;

3. HakuMyu Live (the first) - There is never a bad time for rewatching HakuMyu Live. I don’t think I need to elaborate on how much I love this, it’s kind of it’s own thing though so I feel bad comparing it to the other storied musicals, but this is what I put on when I just need a pick me up.

4. Hijikata Toshizou-hen - You would think, with Hijikata being my favorite, that I would have put this higher up and maybe before Heisuke-hen this would’ve been my favorite but Heisuke-hen was just that good. Hah, if I think about it, it’s like the game for me. Heisuke’s route is my favorite in-game, at least with the original game it was, don’t ask me to rank game routes yet, I need to finish Shinkai first XD ANYWAY! I love Hijikata-hen but when I think about which musicals I tend to rewatch more, the others come first. As with Hijikata’s route in the game, I feel like this musical gets a bad wrap for being boring? Which I honestly don’t understand, but there’s really only so much you can do to “spice up” the poster boy’s route, heh XD I love that it was Hijikata rehashing everything that had happened to Ootori, their dynamic was so much fun to see on stage. I think what really kills me in this though is the lack of real chemistry between Hijikata and Chizuru. That’s my series OTP, I really had much higher expectations so seeing it fall flat was kind of a bummer :/

5. Shinsengumi Kitan - I haven’t watched this one as much but I honestly have nothing but fondness for it. This musical really warmed me to the new cast and while the music itself was still kind of... a mess? (No, seriously, I really don’t like a lot of the newer songs.) It was starting to kind of get back to feeling like the previous musicals more. Maybe because it was back with Chizuru and familiar storylines but what made this musical for me was the unrequited element between Sano and Chizuru, with Sano being in love with an somewhat oblivious Chizuru. I honestly can’t say I’ve ever seen anyone play that angle but it was done so masterfully that when Sano died (basically sacrificing himself for Chizuru) it was emotionally brutal. I walked away from that musical thinking if they didn’t announce Sano-hen after all of that, I was going to have to have a talk with someone. Thankfully they did though, so we’re good ;)

6. HakuMyu Live II - My newest addition and honestly I’m not sure where I’d fit it in yet but I feel like this is as good a spot as any. It was fun, yes, but I don’t know that it’s quite up there for me yet. We’ll see where this goes with time though.

7. Reimeiroku - As much as this musical is a mess as far as the actual songs are concerned, the story of the musical itself is a good one. Reimeiroku I feel will be a harder one for Western audiences since the game itself hasn’t been localized and the anime is incredibly lacking but the musical itself was good. It wasn’t outstanding but it wasn’t bad either.

8. Okita Souji-hen

9. Saitou Hajime-hen

Don’t really know how to elaborate on why Okita-hen and Saitou-hen are the least faves but I think it just comes down the fact that I’ve barely rewatched them. They’re both good musicals and the music is lovely but all I can do is just shrug when I think about them. I don’t find either to be particularly engaging and honestly I usually end up fast forwarding through them at points, which is kind of sad when you think about it, but... someone had to be at the bottom and unfortunately it’s these two.

About the future of Hakumyu (updated version 20th of July 2023)

We followed Hakumyu for several years, and are still excited about the same story, even we watched uncountable times.

So what future does Hakumyu have? Which productions are awaiting us in the next years?

First if all we have a new writer and director, named Nishida Daisuke. He "created" two new series, the Shitan (Kazama & Hijikata) and Shinkai (Souma, Saito & Sannan) as well as LIVE3.

As of the 20th June of 2023 Shinkai Hijikata Toshizō Hen was announced. This date is also the historical Hijikata's death date. But it isn't Nishida, who is in charge.

We have already "explored" routes and "new" routes. (New routes with year are been already aired or scheduled)

Which are:

Saitou Hajime (twice)

Hijikata Toshizou (thrice) (+2024)

Kazama Chikage (twice)

is a series, which follows the screenwriting of Mōri Nobuhiro, but is directed by Mr. Nishida.

So the stories and routes in included are, what we all already know, which makes it 10 possible productions (of which we already have 2, so 8 future productions). But...

Shinkai

is a series written and directed by Nishida. I think, I wasn't the only one expecting there to be only new routes. But after the announcement of Shinkai Saito it made it much more. So we have the new routes and old ones, which make it 16 possiblities (14, if we count Souma Kazue Hen and the new one out)

And with Hijikata's third Hen (or rather fourth time, the left options are back to 15 options)

But...

Now someone could think: "Great, there will be 22 new productions." There won't be, because it is highly unlikely that one route gets a Shinkai and a Shitan production. So with what I calculated, we have 5 new Shinkai routes and 7 either Shinkai or Shitan old routes. Which make it a good chance that Hakumyu will be there even after another ten years. There are of course also other possibilities: for example: we finally get the Yukimura Kodo Hen 😜 or there will be a Hakumyu Uragata, or other stories based on Drama CDs and other game series related to Hakuouki. Also there is the chance we have more LIVEs.

Forget what I said as Hijikata Toshizō got a OG, a Shitan AND a Shinkai, we have the possibility of 21 possibilities.😅

Cast Stay, Comeback, Guests, Retire, Changes

We always wonder, who will be part of the cast, when a new musical is announced. (Everything is based on speculations or statements of actors)

Who will stay?

The cast that started the Shinkai series should stay for a while I think, but from what I observed single roles may change, but I think the majority will stay, only of course Chizuru will change everytime.

Comeback

We've seen several comebacks by now, like Sazaki Hideyoshi after three musicals and even in a different role. Than of course Suzuki Shogo, who played the first and forth generation Kazama Chikage, has returned. For Shinkai Saito Hen second generation Saitou, Hashimoto Shohei has returned. I personally think, we can expect more old cast to return. At least to Hakumyu LIVE 3 as guests. If you're are following the official Twitter account of Hakumyu, you may have noticed, that many of the old cast expressed their feelings about Hakuouki. So it is easy to believe, that we see a few of them again.

Guests

For the 10th anniversary of Hakumyu in general and Saitou Hajime in particular, the first Hakumyu-pair Matsuda Ryo (first generation Saito Hajime) and Yoshida Hitomi (first generation Yukimura Chizuru) made a guest appearance.

As well as in LIVE3 Takasaki Shota (third generation Yamazaki Susumu), Yazaki Hiroshi (first generation Hijikata Toshizou), Kashiwagi Yuusuke (first generation Shiranui Kyo), Naya Takeru (third generation Saitou Hajime) and Matsuda Gaku (fourth generation Hijikata Toshizou) made their appearance.

Even if they don't reprise their role many of the former cast is still attached to Hakumyu and I don't think that will change so fast.

Retire

According to interviews with Taira, we don't have to fear, we even might see him till the 'end of this dream'. I believe it was the special interview between Nishida, Suzuki and Imata, where it was stated that Imata had become the soul or backbone of Hakumyu. Even though some actors might retire from Hakumyu, it creates the chance to see new actors and their interpretation of our beloved characters.

Change

Since we had a Shinkai Routes, where extra characters appeared, we likely have a changeable part of the cast. That was confirmed by an interview about the new Shinkai Souma Hen. Which means, we had Souma, Nomura and Miki. And will probably have Sakamoto, Nakaoka, Motoyama and Iba be included. Also charakters that only occur in a specific route to be important (which were already part of the show) for example: Nagumo Kaoru or Sen-Hime, other like Kimigiku and Shimada or again Inoue. Or if there will be an Uragata Play, a whole cast change??

Also there could be a writer or director or composer change, but I seriously don't know and I have nothing, which indicates that.

So about that it is confirmed that Hakumyu goes back to Mouri's hands for a while. As he said in this interview, 'there's no case like Hakumyu'.

Conclusion

For the Future of Hakumyu is many hope, I think, although there are many uncertain things, so maybe it's impossible to wether it will be 10 years or only 5 years lying ahead. But there is a tomorrow, and that is important. As long Hakumyu will stay in our hearts, it will be fine, whatever happens.

Act 1 Location: Tatami Room [I don't know what that's supposed to be though I'm going to assume this is the bedroom]

Time: morning

【The cold of winter gradually fades with the dawn of spring——it's often said that the dawn of spring isn't remembered, but when I walked into the tatami room after preparing breakfast, Heisuke-kun was still sound asleep in bed.】

Yukimura: Heisuke-kun, it's morning already.

Toudou: Nn, nn~

Yukimura: It's almost time to get up, and breakfast is ready?

Toudou: Nn... no... I'm haven't finished eating yet...

【He was mumbling in his sleep as he grabbed the blanket. It sounded like he was dreaming about eating?】

Yukimura: Hey, Heisuke-kun

Toudou: Why is it being taken away... I haven't finished eating yet... eh, ah, huh, what about the beef hotpot!?

Yukimura: Pfft....

【Hearing Heisuke-kun talk in his sleep, I couldn't help but laugh out loud.】

Toudou: Areh, don't tell me, that was a dream?

Yukimura; It seems that you had a good dream, good morning, Heisuke-kun.

Toudou: Morning... it turns out, that was a dream.

But even though I knew it was a dream, I still wanted to have another bite. Ah~, it might because I didn't eat enough that I was hungry.

Yukimura: Haha, breakfast has already been made, let's eat.

Toudou: Eh, it's already done? What....I thought I had to help. Chizuru, you're too diligent.

Yukimura: I've said it many times that Heisuke-kun doesn't need to prepare breakfast, after all, you're the head of the family, so leave the cooking to me, okay?

【I spoke as I defiantly puffed up my chest.

Heisuke-kun often helps me with cooking, washing the clothes, and cleaning. However, those are still a wife's duties, and I don't want to inconvenience Heisuke-kun.

Heisuke-kun doesn't need to feel guilty about not helping me.】

Toudou: When you put it that way, I have nothing to say...

For a moment, Heisuke-kun was speechless, and I lifted up his blanket.】

Yukimura: Alright, hurry up and freshen up/wash yourself, if you don't hurry, breakfast will get cold.

Toudou: aah, that's right!

【With that, Heisuke-kun went over towards the well.】

Location: living room

Time: Morning

【Arranged in the living room was a meal with fresh and not luxurious ingredients [reword later... couldn't figure out a way to say this without repeating ingredients], and Heisuke-kun happily put both of his hands together.】

Toudou: Ah, today's veggies look very tasty [either veggies or 'dish'. the CN word can mean either though Im think its the former in this case]! Itadakimasu——

【Speaking of which, are these salted vegetables/pickles made from the radishes I planted? 】

Yukimura; Yes, that's right, I took them out today, how do they taste?

Toudou: They've been salted/pickled just right! It's delicious!

Yukimura: It's great that you can say that, there's still more so eat more

Toudou: I'm so happy to be able eat such delicious food in the morning/It's a blessing to be able to each such food in the morning [no direct subject here... so this can be interpreted either way]

Heisuke-kun looked at the table and sighed.】

Toudou: It's all thanks to you.

【Heisuke-kun smiled as he spoke. In this normal everyday life, from time to time, Heisuke-kun would thank me like this, even though I didn't think I had done anything worthy of his gratitude...】

Yukimura: Why are you exaggerating so much, furthermore, this isn't due to my contributions. The radishes were planed by Heisuke-kun, which it why it's thanks to Heisuke-kun that I'm able to eat such a delicious thing.

Toudou: There's no such thing... Ah, isn't this going to repeat, what I want to say, is that I'm very grateful to you, and it would be nice if I could repay you. Yukimura: What do you mean by repay?

【Hearing my question, Heisuke-kun reflected for a moment before then lifting his head to reveal a smile.】 Toudou: Right! In the past, I've always been troubling you, so leave tonight's dinner to me

Yukimura: But then...

【Although I was happy to hear Heisuke-kun say that, I was sure if I should leave it to him. Perhaps he was able to sense my worries, Heisuke-kun quickly added.】

Toudou: Don't worry, you should know, when I was still in the Shinsengumi, I was often responsible for cooking for everyone, so I'm a bit confident in my cooking. Yukimura:...Nn, okay, then please take care of today's dinner, Heisuke-kun.

Time: day

【There was a hill behind the house we lived in, and once we had settled down there, we decided to farm in the back mountain, so that we could live self-sufficient lives.

After spring arrived, carrying a shovel to the field on the back mountain became a daily task for Heisuke-kun.】

Yukimura: Heisuke-kun——

Toudou: Ah, over here!

【Seeing Heisuke-kun waving in the vast field, I walked towards him, and Heisuke-kun stopped what he was doing to run over.】

Yukimura: You've worked hard, how are things going?

Toudou: Aahh, it seems like that plowing will be finished today/I'll finish plowing today, so radish and rape seed can be planted around here later.

Yukimura: once the rapeseed matures, it's delicious when cooked, but will the rapeseed' leaves be okay after being bitten by insects?

Toudou: Well.... nn, it was a big failure during the fall of last year because of that, but I'm not going to let the same thing happen this year. Yukimura: Nn, I'm looking forward to it. Toudou: Leave it to me, there will definitely be a good harvest!

【Honestly, when we started living here, Heisuke-kun was a complete amateur when it came to things to do around the house, and although there are many things he's still not used to doing now, he's been working very hard to adapt, and is very reliable like that.】

Yukimura: Ah, right. I brought some water, would you like to take a break?

Toudou: Nn, that helps a lot, I was just getting thirsty. Then I'll come when I finish here.

Yukimura: Yes, I'll wait for you.

【Thus, we found some shade to rest in, and after Heisuke-kun sat down, I handed him a bamboo tube filled with water.】

Yukimura: Here you go

Toudou: Thank you....It's really delicious!

Yukimura; Anyhow, from the looks of it, the fields have gotten a lot bigger.

Toudou: Ah, yeah, in the beginning, it was an overgrowing wilderness/wasteland, but they've now become our fields... Hehe, all that effort was worth it.

Yukimura: It's good to be motivated, but don't force it.

Toudou: Oh, don't worry. But, before I even realized it, I've become obsessed with farmiing, and found that I was unexpectedly suited to working in the fields.

Yukimura; Yes, when you're working on the fields, Heisuke-kun always seems to be happy.

Toudou: However, I really didn't expect to one day be living like this.

【As he spoke, Heisuke-kun looked up towards the sky, and his gazed looked as if he was seeing something nostalgic...】

Toudou: Renouncing the sword to instead plow the land with a spade like this..... It's the first time I did this sort of thing since I stopped living an impoverished life at Shiekan [alternatively this might be: living at the poor Shiekan dojo].

Yukimura: Shiekan, that was from your time in Edo.

【I heard a bit about this when I was in the Shinsengumi. That was the starting point of of Kondou-san and Hijikata-san's Shinsengumi executives.】

Toudou: yeah, it was just a small dojo in the countryside at that time, and Kondou-san had been admired by many people, and while those people increased, everyone didn't have money. Fortunately, everyone was somewhat strong, so we all helped the people in the vicinity with farming for a share of the vegetables to eat.

Yukimura; Is that so

Toudou: Well, all I could do was was pull vegetables out of the ground because Gen-san lectured me for playing around too much. For me, to be here plowing land one day, the sort of life someone leads is really unknown [reword and check the jp mtl later]

Yukimura: Indeed

【My life has changed since coming to Kyoto, the secret of my birth, the existence of the rasetsu, and... just like that, now, Heisuke-kun and I are living happy lives in the Yukimura village. Perhaps it's just as Heisuke-kun says, life is unpredictable.】

Toudou: But, the land that I've tilled with my own hands is right in front of me, I aslo have you in my at my side, and I'm really happy right now.

【As Heisuke-kun said that, there were already calluses that had formed on his palms that were different from when he wielded a sword. For him who wielded a spade everyday, the hard work was surely its own unique reword.】

Yukimura: Yes, a peaceful life like this is more joyous than anything... [check JP later. this sentence is weird]

Toudou: Then—— Alright! Let's keep at it a while longer! I'll come back a bit earlier today as I have to make something delicious for you to eat

Yukimura: Then I'll head back first, I'm looking forward to the dinner that Heisuke-kun will be making.

Toudou: Ahah, then see you later

【With that, Heisuke-kun once again returned to the fields. I watched him for a moment, and then left.】

Act 4

Location: living room

Time: Night

Toudou: Good... that's about everything. Hey, dinner's ready!

【Upon hearing Heisuke-kun's voice, I went into the living room where a piping hot dinner had been arranged, it looked very delicious. [check book for sentence structure. there is no other punctuation aside from the sentence at the end in what I got]】

Yukimura: Wow, that's amazing! Did you make all of this?

Toudou: That's right! This is Jinping burdock, and this was roasted with wild veggies that were just picked from the mountain, and this is salted baked Yamato and radish miso soup. After that, there's... [check book. Not sure bout the fish]

【Heisuke-kun pointed one by one to each of the elaborate dishes in detail. Each of them looked delicious.】

Yukimura: It looks delicious

Toudou: Alright! Then let's eat!

Yukimura: Itadakimasu—— [The tl I see for what I replace with "itadakimasu" roughly translates to I'm starting"]

Toudou: Itadakimasu—— How is it?

Yukimura: It's delicious!

Toudou: Right? But my technique is still very immature. Eat more, I made a lot.

Yukimura: Yes!

【All of Heisuke-kun's dishes were seasoned to my liking, and I could feel his heart/intentions, as it was all very delicious. While smacking my lips for the moment to savour his cooking, I suddenly noticed that Heisuke-kun had stopped the dish, I suddenly noticed that Heisuke-kun stopped moving his chopsticks to stare at me.】

Yukimura: What's wrong?

Toudou:...No, how do I put it, it's wonderful to see you smile happily.

Yukimura: To suddenly say such a thing... it's very embarrassing.

Toudou: It's because as long as I see you smile, how can I say this, my heart feels warm, and I will somehow get very happy.

Yukimura: Heisuke-kun...

Toudou: That's why I want to help you, so you'll rely more on me in the future, after all, this is for my happiness.

Toudou: It's fine, [I] have to sow the fields tomorrow, and have to get up early so let's get to sleep quickly.

Yukimura: Nn, yes.

Toudou: Huah.... it's quite relaxing to get under the blankets once the day is over.

Yukimura:....Hey, Heisuke-kun.

Toudou: Nn, what's up?

Yukimura: For tomorrow's dinner, I will definitely make something that Heisuke-kun loves to eat to pay you back for today. Look forward to it.

Toudou: In that case... hehe, I'm looking forward to it. When you say that, I can't wait for tomorrow.

Yukimura: Hehe, look forward to it.

Toudou: Ah, I am really looking forward to it that I'm afraid that I'm going to dream about eating again tonight.

Yukimura: Haha, that's very much like Heisuke-kun.

Toudou: Don't laugh, those are my good dreams, and it does taste very good.

Yukimura: hehehe.

Toudou: But for me, the best dreams are still really...

【After a while, Heisuke-kun began mumbling again.】

Toudou: As I expected I still have dreams with everyone from the Shinsengumi, and it's thanks to everyone that you and I are able to live like this. When I lost my way, everyone always supported me... Of course, it's especially due to you being there [with me].

Yukimura: Me too?

Toudou: It goes without saying, that when I was in pain, you were the one who was always with me, of course, at the time, everyone was also...

what a pain this was to stick this here. I kept on going “back” by accident, and that meant having to reformat everything... 3 times.

also im probably going to go over this one later with the book so I can see if there’s more punctuation in this.... as these sets of dramas are severely lacking in the punctuation department.
