In Indian culture, there are many festivals throughout the year. These festivals not only bring auspiciousness to our lives but also inspire us to have good values and walk on the right path.
According to the Hindu religion, although every day is a festival, it is very important for us to know the reason and importance of celebrating each and every festival. According to the Hindu calendar, one of these festivals is celebrated as Dhanteras on the Trayodashi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. Celebrated 2 days before Deepawali, this festival is celebrated all over India.
It is said that by bringing vehicles, metal items or ornaments, household items, etc. to the house on this day, wealth always remains in the house. On this Lord Dhanvantari Ji, Mata Lakshmi, and Kuber are mainly worshiped on Dhanteras.
भारतीय संस्कृति के अंतर्गत वर्ष भर में अनेकों त्यौहार आते हैं। ये त्यौहार हमारे जीवन में शुभता तो लाते ही हैं साथ ही हमें अच्छे संस्कारो और सही राह पर चलने के लिए प्रेरित करते हैं।
हिन्दू धर्म के अनुसार वैसे तो हर दिन त्यौहार ही है पर हर एक त्यौहार को मनाने का कारण और महत्व को जानना हमारे लिए बहुत ज़रूरी होता है। इन्हीं त्यौहारों में से एक त्यौहार हिन्दू पंचांग के अनुसार कार्तिक माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की त्रयोदशी तिथि के दिन धनतेरस के नाम से मनाया जाता है। दीपावल��� के 2 दिन पहले मनाए जाने वाले इस त्यौहार को पूरे भारत वर्ष में मनाया जाता है।
कहा जाता है इस दिन घर में वाहन,धातु से बनी वस्तु या आभूषण,घरेलू सामान आदि लाने से घर में हमेशा धन सम्पन्नता बनी रहती है। धनतेरस पर प्रमुख रूप से भगवान धन्वंतरि जी,माता लक्ष्मी और कुबेर की पूजा की जाती है।
पौराणिक कारण / Mythological Reason -
According to mythology, the ocean was churned between the demons and the gods to get the nectar urn, in which Vasuki Nag was churned for several days by making neti and Mandarachal mountain churn. 14 gems emerged from this ocean churning, after which Lord Dhanvantari appeared with the nectar urn. Hence this date is called Dhanteras. This nectar urn was filled with many medicines. Ayurveda was created in India. Hence this day is celebrated as “National Ayurveda Day”. Lord Dhanvantari had appeared with nectar in an urn, so people usually buy more utensils on this day.
Dhanteras is celebrated in Jainism as Dhyan Teras and Blessed Teras because Lord Mahavir went on his last meditation on this date and attained Nirvana on the day of Deepawali.
पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार राक्षसों और देवताओं के बीच में अमृत कलश को पाने के लिए समुद्र मंथन हुआ, जिसमें वासुकी नाग को नेति और मंदराचल पर्वत को मथनी बनाकर कई दिनों तक मथा गया। इस समुद्र मंथन से 14 रत्न निकले जिसके बाद भगवान धनवंतरी अमृत कलश को लेकर प्रकट हुये। इसलिए इस तिथि को धनतेरस कहा जाता है। यह अमृत कलश अनेकों औषधियों से भरा हुआ था। जिसके माध्यम से भारत में आयुर्वेद का निर्माण हुआ। इसलिए इस दिन को “राष्ट्रीय आयुर्वेद दिवस” के रूप में मनाया जाता है। भगवान धन्वन्तरि अमृत को एक कलश में लेकर प्रकट हुए थे इसलिए इस दिन आमतौर पर लोग बर्तन की खरीदी ज़्यादा करते है।
धनतेरस को जैन धर्म में ध्यान तेरस और धन्य तेरस के नाम से मनाया जाता है क्योंकि भगवान महावीर इसी तिथि को अपने अंतिम ध्यान पर गए थे और दीपावली के दिन निर्वाण प्राप्त किये थे।
धनतेरस का महत्व / Significance Of Dhanteras
According to Indian Hindu tradition, on the day of Dhanteras, which is celebrated two days before Deepawali. On this day people buy items made of gold and silver. It is said that on the evening of Dhanteras, by keeping a lamp in the name of Yamdev facing the south direction, the fear of death also ends.

Okay, alright. I have seen almost all the films of Ayushmann Khurrana (except Vicky Donor) and Vicky Kaushal, the recent films of Srk (and his old films like DDLJ, K3G, Kal Ho Na Ho and Devdaas), Salman Khan (I guess I have seen only Kick and Hum Sath Sath Hain).
Then we have Akshay Kumar (almost every film I have seen) and same goes for Aamir Khan. I have seen Ms Dhoni's biopic and Dil Bechara (talking about SSR's films).
Other than those, I have seen movies like Satyameva Jayate, Shakuntala Devi, Main Tera Hero...the list goes on.

Dhanteras marks the beginning of Diwali, the five-day festival of lights. The much-awaited festival begins with Dhanteras and ends with the Bhai Dooj ritual. The word ‘Dhanteras’ comes from Sanskrit where 'dhan' means wealth and 'teras' is the 13th day of the Hindu lunar calendar. . It is marked on the Trayodashi Tithi (13th day) of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik. The festival is also known as Dhantrayodashi. . On this day, devotees pray to goddess Lakshmi and purchase metal objects. People usually buy gold and silver jewelry and items made from brass, iron, and copper on this day. This is because it is believed to ward off negative energy and bring good luck. . People also celebrate this day as Dhanvantri Jayanti, by praying to the God of Ayurveda ie Lord Dhanvantari. Dhanteras is the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanvantari, who imparted the knowledge of ayurveda to mankind. People worship the god of health in the evening to get rid of ailments. . According to legend, it was predicted that King Hima’s 16-year-old son will die of a snake bite on the fourth day of his marriage. After finding this out the son’s wife decided to place a heap of ornaments at her room’s entrance and narrated stories to her husband throughout the night to keep him awake. . Lord Yama took the guise of a snake and came to bite King Hima’s son. However, dazzled by the jewellery, he sat on the heap of ornaments and listened to the stories. This way, the new bride distracted Lord Yama and he missed the time set for taking the prince’s life. King Hima’s son was saved and since then, metal has been linked to good luck and success. . People also believe that Goddess Lakshmi visits their homes at night during Dhanteras and hence, everyone lights up their house with diyas and colorful lights to welcome her.
