request: I request a fic with one of your hubbies? Idk, just wanna see what would you like in a dare scenario —anonymous
not edited | word count: 1,155 words | theme/s: pure fluff because i feel soft for shinsuke today. childhood sweethearts or best friend.
rv: i honestly didn’t know if this is connected to the request but let’s see haha. i did say i’m making a kita oneshot and yay here it goes!!
“how long has it been?”
“aran said it’s childhood sweethearts, right? of course it’s since childhood.”
osamu remained silent for they suddenly felt a shiver run down their spine, indicating a gaze that could surely be the only one that could do that to the three. by the time they turned around to confirm their assumptions, there stood shinsuke kita, his eyes narrowed and glaring directly at their way.
atsumu grins with a nervous chuckle, trying not to show his apparent fear upon their volleyball team captain. shinsuke didn’t seem to mind it further when he looks away, knowing especially well that atsumu would eventually walk to his side and have the guts to inquire him of their previous topic.
shinsuke could feel the instant presence of the three second years by his side, his eyes trained on the floor as he mops that area, trying to ignore whatever the three, especially atsumu, were up to.
“hey kita, i heard that you’re already with someone. why didn’t you tell it to us?” atsumu was the one who broke the ice, crossing his arms to look confident in his front, yet even without telling shinsuke could almost feel the terror in him.
the two remained silent but it was obvious with the way they looked expectantly in shinsuke’s form that they were also curious of the answer that lies beneath the question that atsumu threw--and what must also be in theirs.
shinsuke didn’t have to think, he knows the answer. yet for some reason, he finds the words difficult to spit out, as if there was a knot in his vocal chords that he couldn’t speak for more than a second than he should.
“i don’t know what you’re talking about.” he does, but he wasn’t so sure if he should really answer their minds have been craving for. it crossed his mind that they didn’t have any business with the topic but of course, it wouldn’t know for them to know, right?
“(y/n)-san,” suna drops the bomb, his voice sounding uninterested. “atsumu wanted to know if you’re together with them.”
“hey it’s not just me!”
osamu looks at his brother with a blank expression, saying “it is.”
as the three grumbled on each other, shinsuke turns away to clean other areas, sooner feeling them tail him to question him again. he remained quiet, nonetheless, contemplating whether it was even worth a bother to say to anyone else.
“we’re not-“ he mumbles, causing atsumu, osamu and suna to freeze at shinsuke’s revelation, a clear sign of a failure in their part. “we’re not together.”
shinsuke has his gaze glued on the ground, not looking at their faces nor reactions at all.
“you’re not?” osamu questions in an uncharacteristic way that even shinsuke was slightly surprised that it was not atsumu who’s questioning him rather it’s the other twin.
apparently, atsumu has other plans.
“you should not give up! i’m sure they just need some little push.” he says, placing a hand on shinsuke’s shoulder with a reassuring and rather proud smile. for some reason, shinsuke has a feeling that he’s doing this for something that would be in his gain but as of the moment, his mind was screaming for whatever atsumu has to say.
“what are you saying now, tsumu.” osamu questions, eyes narrowing at another sign of his brother’s silly plans.
“i mean-you should up your game! i’m pretty sure (y/n) wouldn’t resist someone like our captain o’er here!”
it sounded fishy and this didn’t came unnoticed to shinsuke, yet he felt a sudden interest sparking first on the tips of his fingers before it sooner went out of his lips.
“what should i do?”
and those words led him to the situation that unfolds in front of shinsuke’s eyes, finding himself by your side, his outside demeanor was quite different than the familiar increasing heart rate inside his ribcage from the mere fact that he could sit right next to you.
“you wanted to say something, shin-kun?” you momentarily glanced up from your book to his way, only going back a second after shinsuke felt his heart skip a beat. shinsuke never understood his growing feelings until one day, his grandmother told him about the beauty of love and how it changes someone’s life--that he would someday find someone he can love and care enough to be with for the rest of his lifetime.
that time, his mind had a mental image of you--his best friend since he was a child, being the second constant thing in his life along with his grandmother. that day, he knew that he felt the slow, impeccable and unknown emotion that he surely hadn’t realized.
“dare them.” atsumu’s voice echoes by the back of shinsuke’s mind, one that he didn’t expect he would ever follow until now.
“i dare you to love me.” it didn’t sound so stupid until it came out of his mouth. by then, it was one of the things he wished he didn’t say until it happened. shinsuke could feel the sweat by his forehead and the back of his neck, feeling much nervous than he would usually.
after all, he never had any experience at this before. it’s not like he ever had someone else besides you.
shinsuke watches with an observant gaze as you instantly looked up, brows furrowed in obvious confusion. shinsuke was so close into saying to never mind what he said when you suddenly laughed, the melody of the sound like a music to shinsuke’s ears that he almost forgot his embarrassing mistake and the thought of getting mad at atsumu for planting the idea in his mind.
“what’s gotten into you, shin-kun? this came from atsumu, didn’t it?” you inquired with a light voice, clearly not taking his question seriously. but you did close your book to turn to him, your full attention shifting to his.
for a moment there, shinsuke thought of getting out of the situation, pointing all the blame on atsumu and make the run out of it. but with the look on your face and the itch of impatience inside of him, he knew he could direct this situation to a path he never took before.
and it looks like the dare was for him after all.
“i’m serious, (y/n).” he says, your expression immediately changing as soon as you processed what he said.
“i-what?” you stuttered. it was the first time shinsuke ever heard it directly for him. you were always comfortable with conversing to him and it was indeed a new sight for him to see you looking flustered rather than composed and relaxed. unknowingly, a swell of pride spreads in his chest and it seems he could get used to this.
shinsuke never wanted to push himself into you. but for the first time after years of having these unsaid feelings in him, he felt like he had a chance.
