the redback n’ the ghost (an mcu x cod ed).

When I first created SilentDove (aka fleshing out her main characterization and backstory), I had originally placed her within the MCU world.

A little girl stolen off her reservation, her childhood was heavily molded into a life of espionage, assassinations, ballet, hand-to-hand combat, and other Red Room training. The resilience in her DNA kept her alive, along with her unusual mutant abilities.

Long story short, I had simply loved the idea of Ghost finding romance and companionship in a woman all too understanding of “people you know can hurt you the most.” But also a Gen-Z woman who regularly quotes vines and sings "Copacabana" at the worst moments possible. I think he needs that in his life if I'm honest.

He's much too uptight.

"You could fix him? Good for you, I guess. I could be the one thing he's truly afraid of."

— blessed with a learning tongue, she is a polyglot. her first languages consisted of a blend between nēhiyawēwin (the plains cree language), spanish, and english. during high school, she took on russian and french as a challenge, and later portuguese.

i love hat & boot specials; there is something so …. fun about dancing in them.

and simon riley — he is a funny man. he does not really enjoy americans, barely tolerating them. he carries a plethora of complaints (that he’ll never voice aloud) regarding our economy, shitty healthcare, politicians, national culture, and so on.

which is valid. i get it.

as a result of popular american media culture and the hollywood film industry, whenever simon overhears anything american-related, his mind immediately wanders to the old west aesthetic:

cowboy boots n’ hats (bonus if there’s a feather. he never understood why, but he likes it.)

spurs

chaps

a rough southern accent

ranching, spittoons, cattle rustling….

but silentdove doesn’t exactly fit that description.

until his pretty girl stands before him, dressed head-to-toe like a cowgirl. simon counts on his fingers all the cowboy-related shit she is wearing:

ranch jeans, held up by a massive buckle.

leather chaps with its colorful fringes that bounce and snap with every step she takes.

the fking COWBOY BOOTS. nicely polished.

and, of course, the hat. with the feather.

dove’s long, dark hair is tied into two, thick french braids with her beaded hair-ties and otter skins, that almost touch the tip of her boots. in her right hand is a coiled-up lariat. and her smile? it rivals the sun.

“yeehaw,” she giggles. “am i right?”

and simon feels himself falling in love with her again.
