Turnip, what's YOUR album of the year if you had to pick one? Pitch it to me, infect me with ur music taste
Okay, so I can't pick just one, so I'll throw a handful of my faves that I discovered this year into the ring. The most recent would be Eternal Blue by Spiritbox. Underrated alt/prog metal band, and I haven't heard a whole lot of others talking about them. I really like the way the first couple of tracks blend together, and the lead vocalist has an amazing voice. She has this really melodic singing that meshes well with her death growl. I also really like that there's a good mix of slower songs with the harder music. There's a lot of good variety, and the pacing is really nice.
Favorite song: Silk In The Strings
I also finally listened to The Death of Peace of Mind by Bad Omens this year. I had heard a couple of their singles before, but I hadn't checked out the full work until recently. I was really glad I did, because it's amazing. Lots of bangers in there, 10/10 would recommend. I really enjoy metal/post-hardcore in general, but the synths and electronics give the music a really nice boost to the energy (see one of my fave albums of all time -- Trauma by I Prevail). It makes it really punchy, and I love that!
Favorite song: ARTIFICIAL SUICIDE or bad decisions
I also want to recommend Take Me Back to Eden by Sleep Token, because I was very hyped for it to come out this year. However, I was let down a little bit and do have a few reservations about the album in general. I think it's great. The vibe of it is really ethereal, and I appreciate the fluidity of the songs in terms of tone and sound. But, it suffers from a lack of variety in tempo. A lot of the songs are slower, and the sequencing itself doesn't lend any room for picking up the energy it loses after the first 5 songs. I also hate the songs Are You Really Okay? and DYWTYLM. They don't feel like they belong. At all. They feel like filler/billboard top 100 and less of this otherworldy, almost ghostly sound they're trying to go for. It also took me a few listens to come around to Ascensionism and The Apparition, but I do really appreciate those songs, and I really quite like them now. It's a really good album that took a few misteps. The Summoning is so good, though. There's a reason it's their most popular song. If you're going to listen to it, I would recommend listening in the following order, because it's the best one I've found for right now. Although it's also not perfect by far, and you can hear the tonal shift after the first three songs, I think it feels a bit more balanced. I can't say I'm quite satisfied with it, but it's still a lot better imo
Drop Are You Really Okay? and DYWTYLM. Don't put them in the playlist.
1. Chokehold
2. Vore
3. The Summoning
4. Aqua Regia
5. Ascensionism
6. The Apparition
7. Granite
8. Rain
9. Euclid
10. Take Me Back to Eden
Favorite song: Euclid or Chokehold
And a small honorable mention to these albums that I finally got to listen to, but don't have enough thoughts on (yet) to rant about:
So Much (For) Stardust by Fall Out Boy
Rain City Drive by Rain City Drive
The Click (Deluxe Edition) by AJR (don't judge me I really like them)
Opal (original soundtrack) by Jack Stauber
Frontiers by Journey
Empire by Queensrÿche
4 by Foreigner
I really should have listened to the older albums sooner, but I just never got around to it -- even though I know multiple songs from each one.
I'll eventually talk about all of the other entries on this list, as well as my all-time favorites (not listed) and the other couple of recents I have yet to finish. Mostly just because I like talking about music lmao but today is not that day. Also you have to tell me about your music taste now!

Can that day be today?? I want to see ur trinket collection 👉👈
So, technically, this isn't everything. I'm still trying to figure out where everything is bc I'm in the process of getting rid of a LOT of stuff -- spring cleaning turbo mode and all. But here's what I could find! Keep in mind that these are all what I would classify as trinkets. If we're talking collections, then we're tackling a different beast entirely.
So! To start off with, here's the things that don't necessarily have a home yet. I keep them in a Tate's Cookies tin --
I have every bouncy ball known to man plus one (1) jack
Tumblr media
Toys I got years ago from quarter machines, an old keychain, a bell, a small turtle, some charms, a button, and a single, tiny bead
Tumblr media
Stuff I got as souvenirs! Yes, I own a fidget cube, yes I use it (not this one tho I have a green and black one I use). The marbles are actually my favorites I own, but I do have a BIG tube just full of marbles. Maybe I'll take a tour through those someday. I also have a box of sea shells one of my brother's exes gave me. I want to point out the Volkswagen minibus specifically bc it's one of my dream vehicles. It'd be so cute to own one.
Tumblr media
I have this mini gear shifter an old coworker gave me. It's part of a keychain!
Tumblr media
I also have this music box. It plays an excerpt from Yellow Submarine.
Tumblr media
Then we have all of my stress/squishy trinkets -- plus a few extras. They're on my pride shelf with a ton of stuff I got from friends/Pride events over the years. Below that is part of my Funko collection, but we can go into that another day.
Tumblr media
Here's most of my crystals/rocks! I should note that I don't actually use these for a spiritual purpose. I just really like rocks. I do own books on different types of witchcraft/divination, but they're mostly for reading. Sometimes, I'll break out the tarot cards to do a reading for close friends! But I also tell them that (for me) it's a form of reflection and meditation.
Sidenote: the little box on top of the bigger box contains dried cherry pits! I don't remember why.
And also, the big box is actually an old cigar box. My mother gave it to me, and it holds other various things I've gotten pertaining to metaphysical supplies.

I have a small Bob Ross corner. Also all gifts, I think I got them over the holidays. The Bob Ross bobblehead has a button to make it say things, but the speaker is absolute garbage. So??? Idk it's uplifting in spirit. The painting shown on the flipbook is my fav from the prints it has in it.
Tumblr media
Then we got a deer skull I got from an oddities shop. All of the books it sits on are antique. In order they are Vayenne by Percy Brebner (1907-1908), The Sinking of the Titanic and Great Sea Disasters by L.T. Meyers (1912), Il Trovatore by Verde (distributed, I think by the Oliver Ditson Company, 1917), and Faust by Gounod (also distributed by the Oliver Ditson Company, 1914).
Tumblr media
I have one more small photo, but I'll have to add it in a reblog. Hold on.

Why turnips? If you don't mind me asking.
I don't mind at all! I legit just wanted something to match the pun in my blog name (I couldn't get it out of my head for a week). Committed to the bit and mixed it with a space theme bc I love space

How about... uh, 9, 12, and 14?
Awesome! Thanks for the ask! 9. I don't really drink coffee, but on the rare occasions I do, I drink it hot. 12. It has been a pretty decent day! A bit chilly out, but sunny. Busy, but not too terribly stressful. All in all, it's okay! 14. I do love the smell of the ground after it rains. There's plenty of greenery where I live. So, when it rains there's a lot of fun earthy smells.
